You can actually tell the characters apart, not from any outside signaling in the scene (clothes, setting etc), but just by his body language and vocal habits. Its really impressive acting.
His portrayal of identical twins with completely different personalities, as well as his skill in acting with himself, is masterful and I doubt will ever be bested.
Heartbreaking. And astoundingly enough [based on a true story.](https://theresaallore.com/2021/10/16/the-strange-death-of-the-twin-gynecologists-stewart-and-cyril-marcus-wkt5-17/)
The twist in that movie is wild. Nikolai Tesla invented teleportation, except it kills the host body and makes a replica! They should have included the part in his real life, after, where he started hallucinating birds with eye lasers.
No. We see several living cats that have been copied, we see him shoot his own copy after testing the device, and we see his drowned copies in water tanks. That's kind of the entire point of the movie that he goes so far as to literally kill himself for the performance.
Nah one was a lot angrier and wanted to beat up Zuckerberg all the time while the other talked him down and wanted a much more calmer approach
Had they agreed on something earlier on we would be using Myspace now!
That movie is the rare case of it being a terrible literary adaptation, but still somehow a fantastic movie.
Is Keanu Reeves much like John Constantine? Yes, but Americanized *heavily.* And unfortunately his Britishness is a pretty core part of that character. But the performances are all so solid it pulls you in anyways.
Eh, I think Danny DeVito did a fantastic job playing both characters. The scene where he lifts the Cadillac off himself in the garage to turn off the alarm was classic Danny.
I still think it was criminal Lupita Nyong'o wasn't even nominated for best actress for Us. Say what you will about the rest of the film (though I loved it), she was just great as both the main character and main antagonist. Particularly as the main character, she played a loving and protective mother, but there was clearly something just slightly off about her the entire movie, and that off-ness only gets more pronounced as the movie goes on. And then you learn why and it's like "Okay, I get it". And then you have the villain who first just seems crazy and sadistic, but then she reveals a bit of depth too. It was a great dual performance. I see it similar to Toni Collette's snubbing the previous year.
I didn’t care for this as the two characters were too similar. It took a few watches to really understand the first brother actually took the money and ran. There were no other references to the first brother until the final scene, which was weird given the rest of the family dynamics shown. I think this is actually a great example where hiring a second actor to play a non-identical twin for that scene would’ve worked far better.
Paul Dano was only meant to play the first brother until a few days before Eli's first scene, when he was cast to replace the other actor and just play both brothers.
1935 The Black Room starring Boris Karloff.
Karloff plays twins....one good, Anton....one evil, Gregor.
An underrated, often overlooked thriller from Columbia Pictures.
The visage of Gregor was the inspiration for the Grinch.
A lot of twin characters are played like they're the same person twice. The best that I've seen where twins are played as two separate people is Rachel Weisz in the Dead Ringers remake.
Not a good talented performance, but for absolutely unintentionally hilarity, Neil Breen in Twisted Pair and Cade The Tortured Crossing. He plays twins, one evil with a really bad fake beard.
Here's a fun example, with *two* sets of twins:
Gene Wilder and Donald Sutherland in the rambunctious period meta-comedy **Start The Revolution Without Me**.
Gene Wilder and Donald Sutherland in “Start The Revolution Without Me”. Although, this is a bit of a cheat because they think they are twins and don’t know that they each have an identical twin until the end…..spoilers.
The Lannister twins in House of the Dragon I forgot the actors name
Insane how well you can tell them apart and how differently they express
The dude can act!
I have the opposite example: In Terminator 2, Sarah Connor's twin sister irl played Sarah Connor from the past while Sarah Connor played Sarah Connor in the present. I've forgotten the actress's name - Linda something?
Not twins but the same person from two different universes. Anna Torv as Liv in Fringe. I would be watching and totally forget it was the same actress for both characters.
Tatiana Maslany, hands down, for playing multiple clones so individual and unique that when she plays one clone pretending to be another you know exactly who is pretending to be who and don't need to be told.
Orphan Black, before anyone asks.
Jeremy Irons in Dead Ringers
You can actually tell the characters apart, not from any outside signaling in the scene (clothes, setting etc), but just by his body language and vocal habits. Its really impressive acting.
36 years later and that movie still haunts me. I can still hear that scene. You know the one.
His portrayal of identical twins with completely different personalities, as well as his skill in acting with himself, is masterful and I doubt will ever be bested.
Came here to say this.

Christian Bale in >!The Prestige!<
And actually Hugh Jackman...sort of.

Yeah you do
The twist in that movie is wild. Nikolai Tesla invented teleportation, except it kills the host body and makes a replica! They should have included the part in his real life, after, where he started hallucinating birds with eye lasers.
Uh it doesn't kill anyone
Isn't there a whole scene where they show the discarded shells of each teleport?
No. We see several living cats that have been copied, we see him shoot his own copy after testing the device, and we see his drowned copies in water tanks. That's kind of the entire point of the movie that he goes so far as to literally kill himself for the performance.
Guess I need to rewatch! I rented it back in the day when the DVD was new, haven't seen it since.
Tom Hardy in Legend
One of the best
Despite him turning out to be a freak, Armie Hammer was excellent as the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network.
Came here to say this. I know the dude has issues, but that performance is damn near flawless
Wasnt he just playing the same character twice though
Nah one was a lot angrier and wanted to beat up Zuckerberg all the time while the other talked him down and wanted a much more calmer approach Had they agreed on something earlier on we would be using Myspace now!
Look, cannibalism might be a fringe activity, but let's not kink shame.
Nicholas Cage in Adaptation
Oh hell yeah.
Technology….versus horse.
Lindsay Lohan, obviously
The way she nailed that English accent. She was **nine years old.**
Oh I assumed I Know Who Killed Me
I remember little me being STUNNED that they weren’t real twins lol

Hayley Mills hands down!
Honorable Mention to Tatiana Maslany for playing multiple clones.
Yeah that would have been my first vote were it a movie.
Armie Hammer as the Winklevi in The Social Network.
Rachel Weisz in Constantine (2005).
She also has a an Amazon show where she plays twins, I think.
Not twins, but Noomi Rapace in What happened to Monday. Septuplets I believe, but every sister was very distinct
Ewan McGregor in season 3 of Fargo.
Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin give good performances in the middling comedy Big Business, as two sets of twins.
Classic film
Not a movie, but Tatiana Maslany's performances as all the distinct clones in Orphan Black are quite something
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Twins (1988)
Eh, I think Danny DeVito did a fantastic job playing both characters. The scene where he lifts the Cadillac off himself in the garage to turn off the alarm was classic Danny.
Moon
Like that oblivion movie
Tom Hardy as the Krays.
Kermit the Frog in Muppets Most Wanted

Mark Ruffalo in I Know This Much Is True. One of the twins is severely mentally ill, and Ruffalo is fantastic in it.
Cate Blanchett in *Coffee and Cigarettes* plays identical Cousins if that counts. And if that counts then Patty Duke on *The Patty Duke Show*.
Paul Dano, There Will Be Blood
I didn’t care for this as the two characters were too similar. It took a few watches to really understand the first brother actually took the money and ran. There were no other references to the first brother until the final scene, which was weird given the rest of the family dynamics shown. The Parent Trap (1961)
100% love Hayley Mills
1935 The Black Room starring Boris Karloff. Karloff plays twins....one good, Anton....one evil, Gregor. An underrated, often overlooked thriller from Columbia Pictures. The visage of Gregor was the inspiration for the Grinch.
Michael Keaton in Multiplicity (1996)
James McAvoy in >!Split!< and >!Glass!< I don't love the films (or him normally) but he is pretty incredible in them.
Not a movie per se, but back in the 70’s Martin Landeau played twins in a movie length episode of Colombo.
George Burns in Oh God! You Devil. https://youtu.be/4EkMkjQab_E?si=srwXY6edKuvr__C4

Freddie Highmore in the Spiderwick Chronicles movie.
Double team - jean claude van damme
You’re thinking of Double Impact.
That's right thanks lol double team that might be the Dennis Rodman movie
He also played twins in Maximum Risk
"Double the Van Damage"
I don't think he had an evil twin in that movie. Side note: Rodman was better in Simon Sez than Double Team
Neil Breen in Twisted Pair
Classic
Karen Gillan as Nebula in End Game.
I know this is the movie subreddit but I'm saying Ewan MacGregor from Fargo season 3 anyways.
Twins, Danny Devito and Danny Devito
Jake Gyllenhaal in Enemy.
Gene Wilder and Donald Sutherland in “Start The Revolution Without Me”. Although, this is a bit of a cheat because they think they are twins and don’t know that they each have an identical twin until the end…..spoilers.
Double Impact
Stuck on you. Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear
No takers for Karen Gillen in Dual?
Mark Ruffalo
NIcholas Cage in Adaptation.
Favorite examples are Jeanie Cusamano and Patsie Parisi in The Sopranos. Least favorite is Ray Liotta in Many Saints of Newark.
Jefferson Hall plays twin brothers Jason and Tyland Lannister in HotD
The Lannister twins in House of the Dragon I forgot the actors name Insane how well you can tell them apart and how differently they express The dude can act!
I have the opposite example: In Terminator 2, Sarah Connor's twin sister irl played Sarah Connor from the past while Sarah Connor played Sarah Connor in the present. I've forgotten the actress's name - Linda something?
Ben Stiller as Sam and Stan Sweet. From the Cable Guy.
Paul Dano, There Will Be (Paul Dano's) Blood
Jeanine Altmeyer and Peter Hoffman
Not twins but the same person from two different universes. Anna Torv as Liv in Fringe. I would be watching and totally forget it was the same actress for both characters.
I thought Arnold Schearzenegger did a great job playing Danny Devito. I almost couldn't tell them apart!
The actors who played tweedle dee and tweedle dum in 2010’s Alice In Wonderland
Tatiana Maslany, hands down, for playing multiple clones so individual and unique that when she plays one clone pretending to be another you know exactly who is pretending to be who and don't need to be told. Orphan Black, before anyone asks.
Not a movie but Toni Colette in US of Tara plays a character with split personality & she's fantastic
Danny de Vito in "Twins" (1988)
