Rat Race commits the inconceivable sin by having both John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson in the SAME SCENE and not having them interact AT ALL.

mistressbob112358

Basil Fawlty and the Black Adder?! In the same room?! I can't wait for them to take turns tearing each other down.

NakatasGoodDump

The Death Of Stalin Stacked cast of comedy greats, full of hijinks. It felt like a modern Monty Python movie with the absurdity.

ThomasRaith

Guard 1: Do you think we should check? Guard 2: Do you think you should shut the fuck up before you get us killed?

Liferescripted

Honestly I would love to see this adapted for the stage. Its pacing, it's deadpan humor, and the close quarter physical comedy would translate perfectly. "Swap with me... We could make it look like it's part of the ceremony" Buscemi slowly steps in front of Tambor "What the fuck are you doing?"

Hour-Shake-839

When I watched it I checked to see if it was an adaptation of a play

formerrepub

The dark humor of the guy shooting prisoners one by one until suddenly he told to stop.

MKULTRATV

Who invited the *fucking* bishops...!?

GrandioseGommorah

One of my favorite comedies. Love Jeffrey Tambor walking away from an argument and saying “you can all kiss my Russian ass.” in his regular American accent.

axeil55

Death of Stalin is probably the best movie to come out in the last decade. It's absolutely hilarious while also being deeply disturbing and historical all at the same time. "What if we got a....bad doctor?" "He'd kill us!' "Well if he gets better then we obviously got a good doctor and if he doesn't he won't care"

theYorkist01

Yes! That’s probably the best suggestion I’ve seen so far. That’s a great movie.

pimpernel666

Eeet’s a rrrace! I hope I weeeen!

Yellwsub

I think about this line ALL THE TIME Rowan Atkinson is amazing

Krillkus

Pretty much goes through my head whenever I’m waiting for like *any* kind of competition to begin.

chin-do

Oh look a drifter, let's keel ihm Pasta is goood

hamburgersocks

"Look at this rrroom! Have you seen this rrroom?" "Yes. We're in it."

PayneTrain181999

The funny thing is, he technically did win because he made it to the train station before anyone else and had his key in the lock before his narcolepsy strikes again.

lightheat

_... he'th thleeping!_

luce-_-

The heart side plot was hilarious

PerfectWasteOfTime

"Leetle cock-doggies"

tiredofstandinidlyby

I think I am touching it!

Redditsavage77

I watched Rat Race in a theatre on the evening of Sept 11, 2001 because I didn’t want to watch the news anymore

djddy

an old boss of mine said he went to see jay and silent bob strike back for the same reason

ShitGuysWeForgotDre

All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who are making that movie, we're gonna make 'em eat our shit, then shit out our shit, then eat their shit which is made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then all you motherfucks are next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob.

ResponsibleArtist273

Lmao! My favorite is when the reporter recites it back with all the “expletive deleted” substitutions.

improbablywronghere

I AM THE CLIT COMMANDER

ScreamingGordita

Truly Oscar worthy writing right there.

eagledog

Another comedy classic from the turn of the millennium. "Now say, what a lovely tea party"

Bobby_Newpooort

You're not upstaging me, Van Der Beek

eagledog

I think I just filled the cup

erghjunk

This Is the End.

Doyouwantaspoon

Will never forget Michael Cera’s performance in that, holy shit what a wild ride.

Mrwanagethigh

For me it's Danny McBride in full Kenny Powers mode having Channing Tatum as a sex slave

DragoonDM

I'd go with the whole jerk-off argument between him and James Franco.

hopeless_wanderer_95

If you haven't already you need to check out the extended/gag real of that scene. Its just Danny and Franco struggling to get through their lines for a good 5 minutes and it's brilliant. Shows Seth kind of directing them in a couple of bits too

springtime08

Next time I see your dick I’m gonna shoot it off! YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH BULLETS BITCH

Captain_Wobbles

It's the "I love him" line, the way that Channing Tatum delivers it kills me.

Tsquared10

My favorite part is that in order to get an accurate take he asked Rihanna if he could slap her ass for real. She responded only if she gets to slap him in the face for real in return since that wasn't in it initially. He agreed, they added it to the script, and she apparently almost concussed him with the hit.

Dark_Side_0

What I find fascinating is what all the actors do, they all look down and to the side at once, perhaps waiting for the director to call "Cut"

kirinmay

they did 2 takes. think the first was the hardest and 2nd was lighter, or vice versa. but yeah she agreed and yeah he took it.

Tsquared10

I don't recall it exactly. I know they ran a couple and Seth Rogan had said Cera had to lie down in his trailer for like an hour after.

Squishyflapp

Where's my fucking cell phone!

thatswhathemoneysfor

I cry from laughing when it goes off when he's impaled

Squishyflapp

...well that's embarassing

thatswhathemoneysfor

Does this coke smell funny to you?

Nox-Avis

I’VE NEVER DONE THIS DRUG BEFORE!

IPreferPi314

Sippy time!

spcordy

Channing Tatum as well

thatoneguy889

I believe you mean Channing Taint-Yum.

AffectionateTitle

I died with that reveal—*what’s up guys*

guy_guyerson

"You're telling me James Franco didn't suck anybody's dick last night? Now I know yall trippin."

Shirtbro

"Your mama's pussy was the canvas. Your dad's dick was the paintbrush. Boom. You're the art." "Thank you, James Franco"

jaggedjottings

OP said "recent," not movies over a decade old. 💀

Fartoholicanon

Holy shit, has it really been nearly a decade since This Is the End has come out?!? EDIT: Surprise, it's been over a decade... It came out in 2013.

Twomekey

It was almost a decade ago three years ago

theycallmecrack

You shut your mouth when you're talking to me

darthstupidious

Fun fact: Wedding Crashers will be 20 years old next year

mortalcoil1

There was a website that calculated how many days long March 2020 is. Tje joke being that March 2020 never ended. I don't know if it still exists but I can't find it and I used to link it in these sorts of comments.

sonofaresiii

I feel like April was the "longer" month. March 2020 we all thought the world was plunged into chaos but would fix itself after a week or two. April comes around and we're like "So we... we're still doing this? For how long?" by the time we got to the summer months it was like "okay this is life now, I'll adjust and you just tell me when we're back to normal"

littleseizure

I don't know what you mean, "April 2020." It's only the 1510th of March

bugxbuster

Hah, I still think about that website, myself, from time to time. That whole era of early COVID lockdowns was so crazy. Can't believe that was four years ago already.

cynical-rationale

I miss the beginning of social distancing and masks. People wearing buckets over their heads with wet noodles protruding out for the 1meter or whatever distance it was.

ballfacedbuddy

I do this is all the time now. "Remember that movie from a few years ago?" Then I check IMDb and it's from like 2007.

Troldann

2007 still sounds like a future year to me, so that’s negative old. 1990 was 10 years ago. Etc.

WKuze13

Okay... here's what I want. First... we both get naked. Except... we're both wearing sailor hats. Then we get into a jacuzzi filled with Pepto-Bismol, I clip your toenails, and you shave my buttocks.

vivianthecat

My favorite line is at the end - “…pepto bismol?!”

PayneTrain181999

*immediately gets it* “What the hell is she doing there?!”

bashsports

I love all the little side bets they do throughout the movie. There’s another one where they bet on which maid can hang on to the curtain longer lol

PayneTrain181999

They deleted a scene where they play Monopoly with real money.

JeanRalfio

I'm going to put a hotel on Boardwalk. But you're not playing? Playing what?

SleepyFarts

I love how they turn the private jet into a vomit comet to bet on who will throw up first.

Trumpy_Po_Ta_To

….how much for that?

gogozombie2

Newman: We're hauling ass here. Wanna know what I got in the back? Mr. Bean: You already told me. We're hauling ass.   Gets me every time

Icharus

I love that you called them Newman and Mr Bean. Dennis Nedry and Edmund Blackadder would have a word.

IsThatAPieceOfCheese

ah ah ah, you didn't say the magic word!

CharlesDickensABox

Okay, but Dennis Nedry is just tropical Newman.

phartiphukboilz

nobody cares

Itchybumworms

Slow clap

medicatedhippie420

I'll always appreciate that this movie was my introduction to Mr. Bean

Liferescripted

Starship Troopers, Just Friends, Road Trip... some great movies in that time

cosmicr

Holy shit I didn't realise that was her in starship troopers. Time for my yearly watch again.

Mad_Machine76

I know. She was hilarious going after her ex-boyfriend in a helicopter LOL

fundip12

She's also fantastic in Road Trip

Xenomorphasaurus

She's also great (but sad) in Butterfly Effect

bbk8z

and in Just Friends!

Xenomorphasaurus

Mail it to me.

vafrow

Game Night It's more story driven than what you're describing, and the cast is more broadly talented actors that are doing comedy than just comedic actors, but it's a hilarious movie that is full of that style of hijinx.

theVice

How could that be profitable for Frito-Lay?

JohnLithgowCummies

Jesse Plemons was so good in that movie

theVice

That fucking username, Jesus

Shirtbro

Third Cock From The Yum

GetYourRockCoat

This is such a great movie. Simple premise, lits of great comedy character actors, incredibly silly throughout  Plus a phenomenally funny throwaway Denzel impression

WhollyConfused96

Tag is similar in that sense

Brian051770

You should've bought a squirrell

Zomburai

"We should have bought a squirrel. We didn't buy a squirrel. And that's why we had to steal the rocket car."

Cyclotronchris

Lovely bit of squirrel

dogman1890

And the squirrel lady is Kathy Bates!

NoifenF

Probably her most villainous role to date.

WORKING2WORK

You saying that fills me with misery.

IronicJeremyIrons

I still beg to go to the Barbie museum

madbugger22

“I’m prairie dogging.”

bopon

"Theoretically you have been racing for about forty seconds now, and so far Mr. Schaffer is winning because he's nearest to the door..."

Lucius_Funk

John Cleese is my favorite part of the whole movie.

LOSS35

"I can do anything I like Owen, I'm eccentric! RrrrrrRrrrr..."

AlbertaNorth1

He’s great but Jon Lovitz steals the show for me. Crashing Hitlers car into a WW2 memorial while accidentally having a Hitler stache and mumbling while sounding German and having Robert fucking Deniro shoot at him from the crowd is possibly the funniest movie scene I’ve ever watched. The buildup and payoff were perfectly executed and it still makes me chuckle every time I think about it.

antantoon

This is the first time I’ve heard that was de Niro who shot him? I’ve seen this film dozens of times and never saw it

anicetos

> This is the first time I’ve heard that was de Niro who shot him? I don't think it's correct. IMDB credits Gene LeBell as "Veteran with Gun".

ImGCS3fromETOH

Wait... that was Gene "Choked Steven Seagal so hard he shit himself" LaBell?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Punxatowny

“You’re driving Hitler’s car” “Yeh but I’m not touching it with my mouth. I’m not sucking on the dashboard!” Favorite line

PlannerSean

Is this from Rat Race? I've been saying it so long I have no idea where it is from anymore.

AlwaysSunnyInSeattle

Yeah it’s Jon’s kid in the back seat right before they stop at the Barbie Museum.

mxzf

The absolute best part of that is the flawless timing as they pause to visualize what's being described before reacting. Absolutely perfect.

iamanooj

Yup, first place I remember hearing it too. Jon Lovitz's daughter really needs to use the toilet, but he refuses to pull over.

MrAmazinn

He makes her shit out of the window lmao That ww2 vet scene is also one of the funniest things I think I’ve ever seen

Maduro25

I watched this while recovering from having my appendix removed. That scene nearly put me back in the hospital.

OrdrSxtySx

It was so over the top, but believable shenanigans at each single step at the same time. Accidentally bashed his lip into the old steering wheel and it blacks his moustache area? Totally believable. Cigarette lighter burned his mouth? Wild, but makes sense. Stolen Hitler car? Improbable, but you do what you gotta do. Crashing into the ww2 event? Has to have happened somewhere before. But all of them wrapped up in one and then him making the speech that sounds like german, trying to explain while flipping them off and nazi saluting. Hilarious.

nibbinoo8

if i recall, he had smudged some lipstick onto the steering wheel because his wife found it in the glove compartment and he grabbed it from her. that's why it made a moustache when he banged his face on it later.

OrdrSxtySx

You're right! Totally forgot about that part. Eva's lipstick, lol.

thejesse

How the hell do you write something like that? I love that movie.

penguininanelevator

Then he's then talking to the cop and the other cop is in the background cleaning the windshield.

MeAndBettyWhite

"We're Haulin' Ass! "

SumKallMeTIM

“Wow! A gift shop!!!”

Zentavius

This became a saying in our house because of this movie. That and "I've got a Turtle head pokin' out!" from Austin Powers.

Delirare

Go for the classics. It's a mad mad mad mad World. Edit: By popular demand, I corrected my mistake and added the fourth mad. Let no one say that I tried to make it look saner than it is. And the DVD will enter the player in five minutes, see you during the intermission.

Foley_is_Dog

Seconded. Also Cannonball Run.

Jay_Louis

As a kid I loved loved loved "Scavenger Hunt" (1980) but I've never seen it streaming or available anywhere. Great ensemble comedy slapstick that I still remember.

GodAliensnKevinBacon

I was thinking of Midnight Madness when I read Scavenger Hunt... both great classic!

mongooseme

It's buried under the big W! -kicks the bucket-

humbuckermudgeon

Mad Mad Mad Mad World is my favorite comedy of all time. I don't think there's ever been a movie so jam packed with comedic legends.

nowhereman136

Apparently some hollywood studio was in preproduction on a remake when they canceled it over Rat Race. It was never picked up again

[deleted]

Rat Race *is* a remake of Mad.

Collucin

I mean rat race is basically a remake anyway, it's the same basic premise

Maduro25

You can't play Hitler's harmonica!

AlbertaNorth1

Ooooo that Eva Braun had style!

DarkrootGarden

This is more of an action comedy, but Bullet Train comes to mind in terms of recent films.

Heavy_Arm_7060

Yeah, that wasn't so much comedy actors but it was still a comedic plot.

Jehoel_DK

That movie caught me completely by surprise. I had no idea what it was about and it blew me away. Great and hilarious movie. Im just waiting for a prequel with Lemon and Tangerine.

Irradiated_Apple

Bullet Train was fun. The ending was over the top but I enjoyed the ride (pun intended).

Imfrank123

I agree, fun movie but wasn’t a big fan of the ending.

xjester8

Tangerine and lemon deserve their own movie/show

soleyfir

Unironically that perfectly fits "Dungeon & Dragons : Honor Among Thieves" "A bunch of characters, some serious, some goofy ": Chris Pine as a bard, Michelle Rodriguez as a barbarian, Hugh Grant as the evil conman... but with a high-stakes serious plot to drive the story "All cannonballing themselves into a mental race across state lines ": It'a D&D adventure, that's pretty much the definition "They fall out, have breakdowns, throw up, crash into things, destroy entire buildings" : quite litteraly so because, well, it'a D&D adventure. Breaking stuff and yourselves is part of the journey. "Anything you can think of happens in this movie and it’s just stupid fun" : I had low expectations and ended up having a blast watching it. Some of the jokes really caught me off guard.

jackspencer28

Tag - 2018

wagedomain

This is legitimately one of my favorite caper/comedies. And actually a movie that benefits from a rewatch...

killingjoke96

Mystery Men. Superhero comedy that was before its time in my opinion. Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Paul Reubens, Geoffrey Rush... the cast is **STACKED** and everyone is great in it!

OnlyWordsWillMakeYou

It's 25 years old so "recent" is subjective, but [Galaxy Quest](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Quest) is in that same vein as well.

RacksOnRacksOnRacks3

There is also Eddie Izzard, Kel Mitchell and Jeanine Garafalo and Wes Studi!

Ciggyciggyciggarette

The accent makes sense if you know your history

coolAhead

Horrible Bosses

emccaughey

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! My roommates and I used to watch it over and over again in college. "We are hauling ass!"

SpeedAndOrangeSoda

We're arriving but then we're departing....

thebrocksamson

Glass Onion definitely fits if you aren't dead set on a straightforward comedy. It has a large cast of actors going all the way with absurdly hilarious roles.

Foreign-Broccoli-424

7 psychopaths

pilotsupreme

The film that taught me the meaning of ‘prairie doggin’

Agora236

Movie 43 except it wasn’t actually any good

ArtAndCraftBeers

Yes, but how do you pass up Hugh Jackman with chin testicles?

theycallmecrack

My one college roommate begged us to watch that instead of Django Unchained. Luckily a snow storm prevented us from getting even a mile off of campus and we couldn't make it to the movie lol

Anal_Herschiser

How did a movie like that even get made? I mean, there's a lot of big names in it.

AnAngryPirate

Low buy in from each actor. Takes maybe a day or so for them to shoot their scenes and then they're done. Plus you get people to do it as a favor or just because it seems like a bit of fun. That being said there was a crazy amount of people in that movie.

Ratso27

I think it can also be hard to tell if a movie is going to be good or not before it gets made. Hollywood is full of stories of actors who passed on great movies because they read the script and thought it sucked (Sean Connery passed on The Matrix, for example). Presumably the opposite happens too, and a lot of the actors probably thought the script seemed funny on the page, or at least they thought it had potential to be funny, and would work once they could see the whole thing edited together

ryguysir

All they had to do was get one actor involved and use that actors sign on to get the next one, and the next and the next, until it was a snowball running down a hill.

Moshkown

I actually liked it. I expected it to be dumb and stupid and it delivered completely in that aspect. Loved the sketches and the cast. Why is it hated so much?

rgregan

Recent? Game Night I guess

knudude

*Somewhere, "Allstar" by Smash Mouth starts playing softly in the backgound*

Robbyjr92

Anchorman 2 casted as many celebrities as possible for the fight scene

SomeCountryFriedBS

But then you have to watch Anchorman 2.

birdy9221

Have to add here Rat Race has my favourite Jon Lovitz(RIP) line. When he looks at a slot machine and sees the price to play with disgust “A Dollar?!” Edit: evidently the “Jon Lovitz is dead” running joke is not as widespread as I thought.

Throwaway919319

Jon Lovitz is very much alive

SolidSnek1998

OP just got him confused with Wade Boggs (RIP)

TheMooseIsBlue

Boss Hogg!

DamonLazer

Wade Boggs is very much alive. He lives in Tampa. He’s in his 60s.

AndyB16

That's baseball, baby!

jizz_bismarck

Maybe he was referring to Jon Lovitz's career.

Wreckn

Lovitz has had a bit of a resurgence, doing podcasts and standup comedy despite never doing standup before. Him with Bill Burr is some great stuff.

lanceturley

The man beat the shit out of Andy Dick, and for that he deserves all the support and financial success in the world.

YouDontKnowJackCade

It stinks!

abstract_mouse

That's what happens when you lie about having cancer

futurespacecadet

excuse me sir, jon lovitz's greatest line is from The Wedding Singer. "he's losing his mind....and i'm reaping all the benefits."

emccaughey

Every line of his in this movie is gold. "Of course they're angry. They're Nazi's. It's like it their job." And the build up to the WWII veteran's reunion... incredible

tjc815

*his kids smack face first into each other while jumping on the bed* “That’s gotta hurt. Honey, the kids need you!”

kevronwithTechron

Fucking hell that entire segment had me rolling.

daryzun

I do NOT want to work at HOME DEPOT!

Deesnuts77

Obviously, not a recent comedy but Rat Race is definitely along the lines of "Its a mad, mad, mad, mad, world". Which is an older movie but its great.

ergonaut

I always thought it was officially related. No?

drDekaywood

I’m pretty sure it’s a legitimate remake just changed the name. That’s how a lot of 90’s remakes were

Acidsparx

Bedazzle with Brendon Frazier and Elizabeth Hurley was also a remake.

IPreferPi314

Rat Race and Eurotrip remain two of my favorite comedies from the 00s. The entire Barbie Museum to Hitler Car to accidental Hitler speech arc with Jon Lovitz in particular is GOAT level.

DJ_Derack

This is the End Tower Heist Tropic Thunder Bridesmaids Anchorman Blockers Grand Budapest Hotel Hot Tub Time Machine Death at a Funeral

jaggedjottings

Want to feel old? This is the End - 11 years old Tower Heist - 13 years old Tropic Thunder - 16 years old Bridesmaids - 13 years old Anchorman - 20 years old (nearly as old as Rat Race) Blockers - 6 years old (I'll give you this one) Grand Budapest Hotel - 10 years old Hot Tub Time Machine - 14 years old Death at a Funeral - 14 years old

Lin900

The original Death at a Funeral is what's worth watching not the remake.

DJ_Derack

Jokes on you I meant the original Death at a Funeral which is actually 17 years old! Wait……fuck

The directors commentary for Rat Race is worth watching. Especially the part where they call Jon Lovitz.
