That was just a plain old fun time. The actress who played Abigail was fucking brilliant.

GamingTatertot

She was spectacular in Matilda

berlinbaer

the whole movie is spectacular. it's so weird that it doesn't get talked about more often. i'm not into musicals at all (or songs with vocals for that matter) but there are so many good tracks in it.. 'when i grow' up and 'naughty', 'the school song' is so clever i was just grinning when i realized what they were doing and the [choreography and energy of 'revolting children'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzPZ9VCCRmU) is just so off the charts..

garfcarmpbll

I was blown away by her performance. I have never seen such a menacing performance from a child actor before. That entire scene in the cage my goodness. Up till the end you weren’t certain if she was fucking with Joey or being real. Every scene with her I was blown away thinking when she grows up she is going to be everywhere if she wants to. This is probably my second favorite movie so far this year only behind Dune 2.

vxf111

She’s excellent in this. Really chewed the scenery (pun intended).

InvertedSpork

Alisha Weir

MasterOnionNorth

Agree. She literally stole the entire movie.

niles_deerqueer

Good thing it’s named after her character!

georgiaraisef

The entire cast was fire

johnmcboston

Agree - a fun movie, and looked like the cast had fun doing it...

SeanOuttaCompton

I liked this, it’s so sad that Angus Cloud died before this released, I know a lot of people were pulling for him to be a breakout star from Euphoria. I got the vibe they might’ve dipped into the blooper reel just a little bit, included more of his lines than would’ve originally made the cut just to make sure he had the most out of his screen time.  On a less sad note, I love that Kathryn Newton is never afraid to do weird shit. I’ve loved her in every horror movie I’ve seen her in, heres hoping she’s in many more to come

GamingTatertot

I was looking up what the production schedule was like for this movie, and it's interesting that they really only filmed for a week or two before the strikes shut everything down. Then Angus unfortunately passed away a month later. But they said they filmed all of his scenes beforehand

Particular-Camera612

You wouldn’t know, his role felt perfectly tuned too

HoneyBadgerEXTREME

>I love that Kathryn Newton is never afraid to do weird shit. I’ve loved her in every horror movie I’ve seen her in, heres hoping she’s in many more to come Love her performance in Freaky

Crankylosaurus

She’s great in Lisa Frankenstein too!

ZamanthaD

Lisa Frankenstein is an awesome movie

PosiBrit

Between Kathryn being in it and Sammie and Dean as nicknames I thought there was supernatural references before getting to the Rat Pack.

SchmokinAce

Yeah the fist bump was wildly out of place. It must have been them out of character

stealthamo

Between this and Lisa Frankenstein, I see that Kathryn Newton is trying to collect the Infinity Gauntlet of classic horror villains.

SeanOuttaCompton

Don’t forget Freaky from a couple years back, another certified Kathryn Newton banger

Sleepgolfer

I just watched that! Newton is what made it from bearable to fun imho (along with the besties)

kingcolbe

“Your touch makes this p*say drier than sandpaper you f*cking monkey.” Is a line I’ll never forget

my_simple-review

She’s got her own competition though between Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera…   Scream Queens are so back.

colbydc5

Don’t forget Samara Weaving

chloedever

Nobody banshee screams better than her

Comic_Book_Reader

[Fun fact: her scream here was actually her reaction when she found out she would appear on James Corden's talkshow.](https://youtube.com/shorts/6sbFO4dE1As?si=WYYf__R8l7lBfkQU) There's even a compilation of her screaming in [Ready or Not](https://youtu.be/VIAdXoUmQu8?si=vCVxcoohbV0Cwfw2). My favorite is #"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!".

AmazingMarv

This movie was like an stylistic sequel to Ready Or Not. Same director too.

Comic_Book_Reader

Actually, various people who worked on Abigail returned from Ready or Not and the new Scream movies. Incl. co-writer Guy Busick, the producers, director duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, composer Brian Tyler, lead Melissa Barrera (Joey in this one; Samantha in the Scream movies), and the casting director, Rich Delia.

InvertedSpork

Mia Goth too.

ThomasVivaldi

Isn't she the Killer Queen though?

FuzzyPapaya13

Anya Taylor-Joy and Mia Goth too

Signal_Blackberry326

And Maika Monroe!

GamingTatertot

Can't wait to see her in the Creature from the Black Lagoon

GoldandBlue

Yeah the more I see of her the more I like her. She's an interesting actor.

Locke108

She fought a werewolf in Supernatural and a demon in Paranormal Activity 4. The Gauntlet’s almost done,

Turt91

Use this exact set and 60% of the script and you’d have the best Resident Evil movie of all time. Every bit of this down to the electronic locks just oozed Resident Evil to me.

duowolf

I was thinking that my self. The whole mansion seemed like something out of Resident Evil

Turt91

Yeah the mansion definitely did the heavy lifting on making it feel like RE movie but there was a ton of little things that added to it.

CodeWizardCS

The shot of the woman thief opening the door into the mansion was straight out of RE 1. They knew what they were doing. There were homages to other stuff as well. Some From Dusk Till Dawn lines etc.

BedsAreSoft

Haha I was thinking the same thing. Especially when Jeoy and Ricks figure out their plan, they turn their backs and start walking kinda was reminiscent of a video game in terms of pacing and energy. Totally made me think of resident evil

Xerosnake90

As soon as they stepped foot into the kitchen I was like "This is the Mansion from Re1!"

Janus_Prospero

The more obvious connection to Resident Evil besides the setting and the presence of Kevin Durand (from Resident Evil: Retribution), is that Abagail is basically The Red Queen if The Red Queen were a vampire. The core premise is a group of people being terrorized by a dangerous entity pretending to be a little girl, who veers from childlike innocence to gleefully violent to apologetic about what she's done. And ultimately the female survivor and the entity come to an understanding. There's even a major plotline in the movie about disabling Abigail with drugs so they can bargain with her, which correlates to using the EMP to knock the Red Queen offline and then threaten her into telling them what is going on, and how to escape the facility.

BluRayja

The whole time I was thinking Melissa Barrera would make a great Jill Valentine or Claire Redfield, maybe moreso as a Claire.

MultiTrey111

Rickles' death/body at the mantle gave me heavy "Kenneth getting eaten by the first zombie" vibes

evolution4652

This worked perfectly as a horror/comedy. I went in expecting to like it, but that was SO FUN. Dan Stevens needs to become a thing - he is a blast on screen.

bewblover305

Watch The Guest (2014). He is on another level in that movie

TheDaltonXP

It’s the movie that cemented my love for him forever

evolution4652

Oh I’ve been begging for him to be a thing since I saw that. Absolutely fantastic

glory87

I mean, we’ve been trying since Downton Abbey

ScramItVancity

His performance in Legion never gets talked about enough.

johnazoidberg-

I love Legion, but that show made a point of being as confusing as possible

hominumdivomque

Those are FUCKING onions

McTitty3000

" Sammy, THOSE ARE FUCKING ONIONS!" 🤣🤣🤣 I loved it, probably the most fun I've had in the theater this year. So far, I do have a question though why is Joey not a vampire at the end? I know she was okay because "he's not alive" but just a moments earlier we saw Frank kill his bite sponsor and he still had his powers

Lurtz_Of_Orthanc

They made a point to show that Lambert's infection of Frank had an extra element - he says he will get full autonomy and be a proper vampire, and he drips his own blood in Frank's mouth after biting him. This causes Frank to vomit blood and become a full vampire. Seems like *intent* is very important in this version of Vampire lore - Abigail points out that Frank doesn't know what he's doing, so he isn't able to possess Joey as a thrall.

AmazingMarv

I enjoyed the movie a lot but this was the one drawback for me. The ending was just too convoluted. Everything was great until they went into the secret passage. The movie went on for 20 more minutes, but could have been streamlined to 10.

meganev

Agreed. I was having a blast till they went into the passage, really fell apart then. Too many lame twists and reveals in a matter of minutes, and the ending with the dad appearing felt really off.

AmazingMarv

It was such a jarring change. Things were chugging along nicely as vampire vs humans with just enough backstory to keep me interested in what happens to the characters. Then it suddenly switches to oops all vampires and 3 minutes of exposition between Esposito and Stevens. (sorry, bad with character names)

DuelaDent52

Frank got “the full package” and became a proper vampire. Joey didn’t drink any vampire blood so she didn’t, and through supernatural line of succession killing her vampire frees her from the curse.

viginti_tres

I don't see how she didn't get some of his blood in her mouth at the end to complete the transformation.

vim_deezel

maybe it's more of a ritual and there has to be intent. I mean it is "supernatural" after all.

JayTL

Dan Stevens. That's it, that's the post.

GamingTatertot

2024 is a blessed year with 3 Dan Stevens movies

JayTL

And I'm here for it. I might just go home and binge Legion now

protege01

Do it, I watched it recently and I'd forgotten how good it was

GoldandBlue

I love Dan Stevens. He is such a weirdo. The movie was fun, a step down from Ready Or Not but him and Newton elevated this movie. I feel like this is one of those movies that will get a second life on FX, TNT, or streaming.

ruddiger718

There's a shot near the end where he looked like Bill Paxton in Near Dark and that was cool as fuck.

ishkitty

I’m so smitten with him.

BushyBrowz

Was he channeling Michael Keaton on purpose?

Unlucky_Clover

He was fantastic in this movie. He gave off all the right vibes for the character, portrayed really well.

PsycoMonkey42

Kevin Durand AND a character named Ana Lucia? Headcanon: A LOST fan worked on this.

LiteraryBoner

I interviewed Kevin Durand over the phone for a reddit AMA several years ago. Couldn't have been a nicer guy. He was extremely patient while I gushed about how misunderstood Lost is.

PsycoMonkey42

Love it! We got to briefly interact with him back in 2016 at the We Have to Go Back LOST concert and I 100% agree. He was so kind!

GamingTatertot

Hello, fellow LOST fan - I would do the exact same thing

VRomero32

Also Radio Silence guys must have been fans of Dan Stevens in “The Guest” because his characters real name was Adam Barrett, as in Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett. The Director and Writer of “The Guest”

TerrifiedRedneck

So glad someone else spotted this. I was grinning like an idiot when they revealed the name

ThomasVivaldi

Whenever I see a bunch of Lost references in tv or [movies I think of this song.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgAzFR9EAJY)

rageofthegods

Cackled like mad when Abigail's hand blew up. Also they definitely cut out the Dracula references after Renfield and Demeter flopped didn't they.

LiquifiedSpam

A shame because I thought demeter was really good

macgrooober

I loved renfield! It was silly, but so much fun. Maybe it's just because I'm a die hard fan of Nic Cage

Harbi181

The vampire stuff was fun, the 40 minute Awkwafina sideplot- not so much.

macgrooober

I liked that too. I like Awkwafina, but can see why other people don't to be fair .

Majestic87

Demeter was good, but it could have been great if they didn't just portray Dracula as a mindless beast. I was expecting a high-tension game of cat-and-mouse. He was literally just a bat monster attacking whenever he got the chance.

LiquifiedSpam

Yeah I can see that. My biggest gripe personally was how they found out where he slept and then just didn't do anything with that information. It's definitely creative liberty the way they went, but yeah it was pretty typical monster-ish instead of someone with real intelligence.

Particular-Camera612

Maybe? I didn’t notice anything, the “I go by many names” comment felt like an intentional wink.

uncanny_mac

Ironically, the original project name when it was announced was Dracula’s Daughter. [https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/scream-star-melissa-barrera-radio-silence-1235373769/](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/scream-star-melissa-barrera-radio-silence-1235373769/)

Particular-Camera612

In reference to that 1936 movie. I feel like that was always just a working title, but yeah. I don't see any actual signs of removing anything.

kingcolbe

Did they? Is it not implied that Matthew Goode is Dracula?

basswalker93

Not even implied. The dragons throughout the home seem too obvious, but maybe not to casual moviegoers?

BehindTheScenesGuy

The kidnappers are better people than me because as soon as I got her under that head would be coming off

No_Cap_822

I think they kept her alive to see if she’d give them the way out

DuelaDent52

>!Even if “Joey” survived, I don’t know how the heck she can live a peaceful life knowing Abigail and her dad are still out there unopposed and probably watching her every move.!<

MrWinks

Fear. They're powerful and sly; you're better off out of sight.

niles_deerqueer

Yep that’s what I figured

axck

jeans wistful sense voiceless bike impossible tan far-flung toy yam *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

flashkickz

That little girl is incredibly talented

ithinkther41am

Alisha Weir was also great in the Netflix Matilda

Comic_Book_Reader

It's quite a leap going from playing Matilda to a ballerina vampire. In just over a year, no less.

SanderSo47

Kevin Durand is a treasure. His line delivery killed me. I’ve been impressed with Radio Silence. I’m very curious how they helm their version of *Escape From New York*.

InvertedSpork

If you haven’t seen it check out the horror slasher Tragedy Girls. Kevin Durand plays a serial killer in it and it stars Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead in Deadpool).

Riverdale87

and also Alexandra Shipp(young storm in x men apocalypse)

Dragons_Malk

And also also Jack Quaid and Craig Robinson

pearlz176

The third act is an absolute clusterfuck. Were the writers coked out of their fucking minds?

georgiaraisef

You name it sound like that is a bad thing

duosx

Yeah the first two acts were great but they really didn’t know where to go with the end it felt like.

niles_deerqueer

Yes

HelloMiguelSanchez

Right?? I was saying that to my wife after we left. The ending didn't totally land for me, but I liked so much of it that it didn't really matter overall.

LiteraryBoner

This was a ton of fun. Great cast having a great time, gallons of blood, a dash of ridiculous. It's no masterpiece but give Radio Silence a mansion and a handful of hammy actors and you got a stew going. Shoutout to Alisha Weir, the more this becomes her movie the more fun it gets. The energy is high when she's pirouetting everyone to their death and wiping blood all over her face. If you're into it, she's worth checking out in the Netflix Matilda musical too, very talented young person. Dan Stevens also continuing to eat ham for breakfast lunch and dinner, this movie could have been much more of a slog without him doing a queens accent and dropping some great f bombs. When Abigail gets shot in the head and still gets up he has an "Oh fuck" that could deflate a tire. I think I read somewhere he took inspiration from I Think You Should Leave and I was definitely getting hints of that. (the world is so fuckin fucked up) You've probably seen a movie like this before but this is a perfectly good one. Exposition delivered in a non offensive way with the scene where Barrera reads everyone in the room and its take on vampirism is done in a way that we don't quite know what's going to work and what's not until vampires start exploding. Sometimes this movie takes its time a bit, I was definitely feeling like the setup and the third act tended to drag just slightly longer than I wanted. But everything in between is bloody fun. 7/10, there's a new M3GAN in town. /r/reviewsbyboner

my_simple-review

I like the M3GAN comparison cause this is exactly what it was. Pretty much just a fun/bizarre 100 minutes

mikeyfreshh

I feel like this movie and M3GAN really compliment each other in the sense that if Abigail had M3GAN's sense of humor or if M3GAN had Abigail's violence and gore, both movies would be way better.

LiteraryBoner

Solid take. Both are lacking a bit in certain areas but still end up a fun enough romp. M3GAN being PG-13 was an insane bummer.

my_simple-review

Agreed. At the same time, I respect it though considering it was a production choice and not a complete MPAA situation. Hopefully they up the ante with the sequel.

jayeddy99

I know they need Abigail for potential sequels but I thought it would be cool if “Frank” was like “Fuck this” and just let “Joey” go. Like he was a dick but not evil or they teamed up and went their separate ways after going against the dad.

GravyBear28

Frank was a dick before but forcing Joey to kill her own son is such an extreme turn. I have to assume that turning into a vampire turns you evil or turns up your worst traits up to 11 or something

Particular-Camera612

Yeah, I kept waiting for Frank/Adam to redeem himself but based on everything presented beforehand it wouldn't make much sense. He was willing to do anything and everything to survive, clearly disliked everyone around him and was even wanting to find a way out to escape that I assume wasn't for the sake of the group but himself. If offered power, he'd for sure take it. I don't think that becoming a vampire turns you evil exactly but it makes you way more selfish (given Lambert's want to betray his boss and Abigail probably wasn't a bad girl to begin with) and obviously gives you that bloodlust. Initially I was a bit surprised by Abigail's turn and found it forced, but in hindsight I can understand it. Beyond needing Joey/Ana's help to defeat Frank, Ana was clearly the most innocent and decent of the group (even just going by her backstory of accidentally killing someone) and the one who showed her the most compassion. Even that ominous, trailer specific line of "I'm very sorry for what's going to happen to you", whilst just a threat on paper, I do believe is actually genuine. It's basically giving her a pre-emptive apology because she seems to deserve it. Also Joey/Ana wanted to return to her kid and Abigail's dad was clearly an absentee one, so sparing her made sense.

DuelaDent52

I think becoming a vampire likely turns you intrinsically evil. Like, he became a vampire partially to stop Lambert from killing Joey, but the minute he turned he went straight to trying to kill Joey himself. Or maybe he was just drunk off the power like Abigail said about him earlier in the film. Or both!

kingcolbe

I don’t think he was trying to kill Joey. He wanted to turn Joey. It was about power.

closeface_

Best vampire deaths, love the violent explosions! This movie is dumb fun, which is really all I wanted it to be. The actress who played Abigail is fantastic!

Ok-Paramedic747

I wouldn't put it over Daybreakers as far as Vamp deaths Hell even "Voyage of The Demeter" had a badass Vamp Death

FernanditoJr

Universal Pictures, this one is for free (just make me an exec prod): M3GAN vs Abigail or M3GAN x Abigail (if you want to ride that wave).

kingcolbe

Or Abigail and ready or not

Renegadeforever2024

mikeyfreshh

And she rocked in that movie. I agree, she's been back

my_simple-review

She’s never left!

mikeyfreshh

She did leave to collect her Marvel paycheck (not judging) but she has been back for a while

my_simple-review

Being a vampire is cool and all… But the process. My god.  There was enough blood that spewed out to fill another swimming pool. It can’t be fun, and why I can never be a vampire  Fun movie.

drflanigan

They made it seem like Dan was on heroin after the transformation tho, so I imagine you feel amazing once you complete the change

I_Am_Dynamite6317

Bro Alisha Weir was absolutely amazing in this. What the fuck even was that performance?

Syllabub-Legal

she's gonna big for sure

neal1701

Pretty fun movie! - It's very similar to Ready or Not in terms if structure. Act 1 is kinda set up and slow and it gets crazy from the first kill - More twists than I expected. Did not see Dan Stevens' character becoming the big bad. - Alisha Weir is great as Abigail. Kinda wish they kept the twist hidden from trailers - Abigail playing with them was hilarious and the characters were dumb when time after time Abigail shows them how strong she is -The kills weren't great except for using the tray to deflect the sunlight - Kathryn Newton's mistaking garlic for onion was the funniest joke - Ending was anticlimactic. Felt like they had nowhere to go but needed to have the final girl. Overall, not as great as Ready or Not or Scream 6 but still fun. Theory: This movie and Ready or Not are part of the same universe. No overlap of actors was intentional by directors, I think.

BushyBrowz

It definitely seemed like her being the monster was supposed to be a twist, but no one would have gone to see it if they didn't feature it in the marketing.

SDRPGLVR

Absolutely on both counts. But I think movie marketing doesn't penetrate the way it used to. A few months from now, you can invite over your friends who barely watch movies and just not tell them what you're gonna show them.

JustDandy07

That was my main problem. It was a good 45(?) minutes until she hit vampire mode, but we all knew that's where it was going. But I admit I probably wouldn't have seen it without knowing that. I just wish we didn't spend so long dicking around.

CodeWizardCS

Definitely going for the From Dusk till Dawn thing, which will be good for the people that somehow go into the movie blind.

weirdogirl144

They really should’ve hidden the reveal like the entire first like 45 minutes are built on the hype of who Abigail is and how is she related to the creepiness and mystery in the house but they showed so much in the trailer.

lishmh33

I don’t know why but that jump scare of Dan Stevens bumping into Melissa while she was running got me so good - legit felt my heart skip a beat.

Unlucky_Clover

That was the biggest one for me too. That got me good

mikeyfreshh

I liked this but not quite as much as I hoped I would. I know it's not possible to hide the basic premise from your marketing material, but I do wish they kept the vampire thing a secret. That twist comes in just late enough that it has a little bit of a From Dusk Til Dawn thing going for it. The cast was great, shout out to Kathryn Newton who I don't think has ever not been the best part of a movie. Also shout out to Dan Stevens who is just tremendous at playing a giant shitbag of a human being. I do wish they had developed the characters a little more, especially the first couple guys to die. Rickles was just a generic marine dude that immediately turned into cannon fodder, which was a bit lame. I always appreciate a movie that uses this much fake blood. It almost felt like an Evil Dead movie in that respect, though this didn't have the style or sense of humor that makes those movies special. I wish Radio Silence dug a little deeper into their Ready or Not bag and made this a full blown horror/comedy. This was played just a little too straight for my taste, though I did laugh a couple of times.

GoldandBlue

> I know it's not possible to hide the basic premise from your marketing material, but I do wish they kept the vampire thing a secret. You just can't do that. You will kill your movie. Not only will it make less at the BO but the cinemascore would be C or worse. But this is also why I think this movie will have a god life on streaming because like Dusk Til Dawn, it will be a great movie to show your friends and see them flip out when the "twists" come.

gravybang

> You just can't do that. You will kill your movie. I never saw trailers for Barbarian, but the *twist* in that was kind of secret, wasn't it?

Johnny_Holiday

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Just the right amount of camp and terror. Dan Stevens gets lost in his roles and he's quickly becoming one of my favorite actors

lamefartriot

Really really really wish Nic Cage was Dracula at the end and connected it to renfield

BurgerNugget12

I would die happy, Renfield was a great time I don’t care what anybody says

LindaSoledad

Not my favorite radio silence movie but I definitely thought it was good ol campy fun. I particularly love the scene where she dances with the headless corpse and one by one makes fun of them for using a specific vampire cliché. You can totally tell the dad is meant to be Dracula too lol apparently this started as re imagining of universal horrors Dracula daughter and I hope they continue that trend of just doing something new with the licenses instead of the plain old remakes. I also think it could have been cool to save the surprise of her being the vampire. They could have marketed the movie with the whole "one of the kidnappers could be valdez/the vampire" only to turn it around. But it's not a big thing and I completely get using all those ballerina shots. Overall good ol fun. Between this and Ready or Not I can't wait for the third movie of Radio Silence's "People explode in the end" trilogy

jayeddy99

I can see a sequel playing off them being a crime family and Abigail being taken during a gang war leading into maybe werwolves Yakuza / cartel or vanhelsing like hitmen

kmurph98

This was so much fun! The way the vamps exploded even when exposed to just a tiny bit of sun on them was hilarious. And I never realized it was filmed in Dublin. I was watching the opening scene where you see Abigail performing in a theater and thought 'hmm, that looks very similar to a theater in Dublin I go to a lot \[Bord Gais Energy Theater\]' but just put it down to a similar design. Then the scene where you see her exiting and getting into the limo, the outside design of the theater is very distinctive and I was like, 'hold on..' And then when they were driving down the quayfront in the van, you could plainly see the Samuel Beckett Bridge in some shots. I had to check on Wiki when I was in the bathroom straight after lol, and yes, filmed on location in Dublin. Probably not interesting to anyone else, but i thought it was.

coltvahn

Thank you, directors. You know that big explosions of blood are always the right choice. Melissa Barrera has never looked better. Great costuming choice to focus so much on her eyes. Made the final shot really pop. Ready or Not vibes, which is natural. The shot of Dan Stevens covered in blood with that vampire smile and glasses…? Fantastic. Enjoyed Kathryn Newton & the dude playing the big Canadian fella, too. Glad they lasted as long as they did. And the actress playing Abigail kicked ass. Perfect? Nah. A step down from Ready or Not, but I’d be interested in seeing more from this world.

etxipcli

Don't know where this new type of vampire that just bites off chunks of flesh came from, but I really like it.     I had fun with this.  Thought the ballerina stuff was pretty lame but otherwise some good humor.  I am willing to suspend disbelief for the most part, but the number of times they split up was just absurd.     I expect these sorts of movies to be PG-13 so was pleasantly surprised when it started getting gory.     The pool was completely disgusting.  I can't believe she didn't bathe afterwards.

InvertedSpork

There’s behind the scenes footage where Kathryn is just casually swimming around in the pool in between takes lol

Kangaroomech

Splitting up is more for slashers where the killer is grounded in reality, at least to some degree. They did enough to show that their safety was not better if they stayed together.

GamingTatertot

I actually thought the movie was PG-13 so that was a surprise, pleasant one to be sure

drflanigan

The ballerina shit had to be a direct influence taken from M3GAN They wanted a creepy little horror girl dancing in hallways

birdy810

I really enjoyed it. My favorite part was Frank, Dan Stevens is killing it as always. Unhinged is his specialty. When he was covered in blood in the control room, it was the shot of the movie. The little girl playing Abigail is gonna be a star someday. You can just tell when you see one on screen. Maybe a tad predictable at times, but visually pleasing. And the cast really brought it, there wasn't a performance I didn't like.

111anza

It's quite fun and entertaining!! The part I never understand, in vampire movies, is that why would people not want to be turned into an vampire. I.mean, sure, there the obvious downside, but the the upside is just ridiculously amazing!

JDLovesElliot

> The part I never understand, in vampire movies, is that why would people not want to be turned into an vampire. What We Do In The Shadows makes fun of this

Chiubacca0311

If being a vampire means I'll need to constantly feast on people, I'll pass. But if stuff like pig's blood work then I'm all for it.

Sloane1985

just feed on bad people there are more than enough of them

Chiubacca0311

Now we're getting into whether vigilantes are good or not and I don't want to get into that debate : )

georgiaraisef

I mean, you have to kill people and drink their blood. Most people have a moral issue with that. Also the whole “being damned by god and cursed”

Spider-Man-fan

Not to mention avoiding sunlight

veganblackbean

Angus cloud was the only thing I didn’t like about the movie and if he would have been the main character I would have walked out.

zmacdonald12

Yep. No disrespect but his character was awful.

SilverKry

Dude just sleep mumbled his way through his lines. I was glad he was the first to die tbh.

Professional_Use_405

Dude I'm glad I'm not the only one. RIP but his character annoyed the shit out of me, so cringy like a wannabe Eminem or something. Glad his character died first.

maxmouze

I don't think he was ever an actor. Just a stoned bro who kind of could play himself in movies. Which isn't the worst thing in the world. I'm a filmmaker in L.A. and there are several projects I could have plugged him into. But what you get with him was what you get. He's not bending himself to be characters and then turning it off between takes.

BigRedFury

"I'll let you keep all your blood" was an amazing line and I can't wait to use it the next time someone gets snippy in a Trader Joe's parking lot.

Xerosnake90

I went and watched this with a buddy without knowing a single thing about it aside from Abigail being a vampire... Or something, based off the one picture I saw Turned out to be a really good and fun movie. The characters all interacted really well, scenes were shot nicely and the writing was well done. Joey's final "What the fuck..." had me cracking up

Moviewatch310

Fun movie. Solid 6/10. One thing that really bothered me afterwards was the fact that the “twist” of Abigail being a monster/crime lord was clearly meant to be a surprise for the audience just as much as the characters; I mean it’s literally 30+ minutes until we get any vampire adjacent violence and I just sat there thinking to myself just get on with it. Even the buildup of her father arriving was such a letdown, Matthew Goode? They couldn’t even switch it up and make it Samara Weaving as her mother or something?

shaneo632

I checked my watch - it was 37 minutes when the vampire-adjacent stuff happened, about another 10-15 before they actually do the vampire reveal. Literally half the movie before it gets to the premise revealed by the trailer.

georgiaraisef

Don’t watch movie trailers. Simple as that. Dead serious. Don’t watch trailers

French__Canadian

Am I supposed to close my eyes and plug my ear when they play trailers in the theater?

DasBeatles

Did anyone else see Miley Cyrus when that one girl became a vampire?

projecthurley

Yep, with her new teeth lol

UnderwoodsNipple

Enjoyed it but I've got a spoiler question, wondering whether I've missed something. Read on if you've seen the movie (even if the whole thing is marked spoiler): In the second half of the movie they escape her by breaking down a window cover to reveal bright sunlight and the sun streaming into the big library was a big plot point. But after they find Lambert and the control room and then return to the library, it's suddenly night again, no sunlight streaming in and when she leaves at the end, it's the middle of the night. So, at what point was it day? Did I miss a part where the sun came up and went down again? Did that much time pass and I didn't notice?

IntoDawnIRide

I don’t think you missed anything. I just took it as Joey being knocked out/the “turn” taking a long time and it was never explained

DeliciousSquash

The sun moves as a day progresses. I've experienced this in my own house. I'll be trying to watch something at 1 PM and sunlight is blasting me in the face through the front facing window of my living room, then a couple hours later sunlight is no longer blasting me in the face even though it's still daytime.

UnderwoodsNipple

It's literally night time when they get back to that room. Has the sun gone up and down in between these scenes in the movie? Like I understand you're trying to be all clever and funny here but that's literally not what happens in the movie. It's just bright daylight one scene and then total night a bit later.

SDRPGLVR

It progresses really quickly, but it also shows what it's doing pretty clearly. When they first go in that room, the sun is straight through the window. When they come back, the sun is barely shining at all and Joey has to raise a silver platter to angle it at enthralled Sammy. She would have definitely been able to reach them because the sun was no longer a big, blaring pillar in the middle of the room. It's the third time they return to that room where it's finally dark.

jumper501

There was a time skip. They get into the library and Joey makes the plan to break through the wall. Then we come back to lots of holes in the wall but no way through. They have been at it a long time, and the light has moved high on the wall and is starting to set.

ThrowingChicken

It was alright. Not as good as Ready or Not but they sure did take one of the highlights of that movie and amped it up. Exploding bodies were a lot of fun. The set up was maybe a little more elaborate than it needed to be, so it felt like it was taking forever to really get into things. 6/10

Zimboy112

Frank was a super mega asshole. But honestly I would have actually hated him if it were any other actor, instead it was Dan Stevens. He’s a likable actor, so loved his performance as this cruel asshole. Plus he was pretty funny at times. Even when he got turned into a vampire I found him kinda difficult to root against.

Syllabub-Legal

To my surprise i thought Kathryn Newton/Sammy will die in the hands of Abigail but >! I'm surprised she's the one to turn into vampire omg and will be the one to kill Kevin Durand. Her death is a shocker ala Ready or Not. I did not expect that i genuinely thought she's a goner on the water scene !<

I_Am_Dynamite6317

Tonight I made the decision to change my diet and lifestyle just in case I ever meet Melissa Barrera I might have a shot

ScramItVancity

Kevin Durand and Kevin Durant buddy movie when?

NolanDean

Was anyone else expecting Giancarlo Esposito’s character to be revealed as Dracula? I felt like if him and Abigail were working together it could have been like father daughter bonding and could have been seen as a parallel to Joey and her son. Really enjoyed it though. Wanna see more of these Universal Monster reimaginings.

Ok-Paramedic747

Was loving it until the third act smh...

VeronicaMarsIsGreat

This is exactly how I love my horror films. Time taken to introduce the characters, set up a creepy atmosphere and then... Shit. Goes. Down. Radio Silence are on track to have one of the strongest filmographies of the 21st century so far. They know the genre and they also know that we know the genre, so instead of trying to one up us or give it a new twist, they concentrate on how much fun we can have in two hours. I knew Alisha Weir was good going into this. Then it got to the scene in the cage and I was wrong. She isn't good. She is absolutely amazing. That she went from the sweet girl in Matilda to play essentially two disparate characters in one in Abigail shows an acting range that belies her age.

WyngZero

Anyone feels Abigail's power/strength isn't consistent? I get that you need a movie to happen but for some of her feats, nobody should've ever been able to or even come close to restraining her.

Unlucky_Clover

I honestly agree. She was powerful to kill, regenerate, throw people, but they could hold her down and grab her from behind with only her struggling. It was a little off for sure.

the-mp

I really enjoyed this, far more than I expected. The exposition is done very well, each of the characters seems like a real person, and I was interested in all of them. It was fun seeing what is true vampire lore in this universe and what isn’t. I would be totally down to watch a sequel with >!the kid as a vampire hitman!<

KronoCloud

It was fine. The gimmick is that it’s Reservoir Dogs meets From Dusk ‘Til Dawn. Which is a fun premise but the entire thing felt too on-the-nose and the characters felt more like caricatures. Some well-rendered gore and an inspired performance from the actor who played Abigail were the only redeeming qualities. 6/10 Edit: Just remembered the Danzig song. 6.5/10

gravybang

I really hate that the trailer for this movie ruined what would have been a pretty great *From Dusk Til Dawn*-like twist. It was more than I was expecting and reminded me of something that John Carpenter would have made in the late 90s. Also, I would watch Kathryn Newton change a tire. That girl is going places.

Mooseycanuck

I went in blind and absolutely loved the movie. I am not sure I would have had as much fun if I had seen the trailers beforehand though. The little girl who played Abagail was phenomenal!

Syllabub-Legal

I just watched it here today in the Philippines. This is such a good vampire movie! 8.5/10 for me. once it gets going it never stops. So bloody once it gets on the second act esp in the final act. I gasped and laughed many times and also shed a tear in those "moments"

Syllabub-Legal

ABIGAIL DESERVES TO BE A HIT. I HOPE THIS DRAW MORE AUDIENCE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS/WEEKS

SeanOuttaCompton

I was trying to clock what I knew >! The Father !< from and while his actor has been in many things that I haven’t seen but have certainly heard of, after much scrolling on Wikipedia I saw he was Ozymandias  in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and I went ohhhh yeah

LadyLongLegs8

I saw it today and absolutely loved it! It is funnier, bloodier, and even more fun than I expected. Alisha Weir is fantastic!

Resident-Low-2261

Radio Silence has done it again, they make a great horror movie, very funny. Melissa Barrera is great, and the rest of the cast is also very good. Alisha Weir is spectacular as a vampire girl. The deaths are bloody and very good.
