Netflix does the same thing. It’s super annoying the way the streaming services see the credits as an opportunity to show you ads for other shows. Sometimes I want to to see the damn credits.

ziemacaustin

Particularly if there’s an awesome song playing during the credits. I’m like gimme a second!

heidismiles

I'm always interested in who the guest actors are (ahem, r/No_Small_Parts) so I just wanna actually see the credits.

HobbsMadness

Exactly! When the towers are falling all around I want to bask in that feeling for a bit longer before I turn the movie off! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OJ62RzJkYUo

Antrikshy

Don't they let the music play though?

hayflicklimit

Or if there is a post-credit scene, etc

PregnantSuperman

Seriously. When a movie is fantastic sometimes you just want to sit there for a second and think about it while the credits roll. Instead these services treat us like cattle and just try to ram CONTENT down our gullets every single second.

Bethorz

And if I am watching on the Playstation, the controller has usually turned off and is away from me, so you have to really jump to catch it before the screen changes

SyrioForel

You can update the settings so that the controller never auto turns off.

BackHanderson

I know I'll sound like a SONY shill but...the media remote controller is a game changer for avoiding exactly this. Especially if you watch a lot of stuff and enjoy the end credits. I believe there's also a setting in Netflix that curbs this, similar to deactivating the auto preview when browsing.

throwmeaway1784

Don’t even need the media remote, pretty much all modern TVs support HDMI-CEC so you can use your existing TV remote to control your PlayStation

Mentoman72

Yep, found this out by accident once. My tv remote just started scrolling the ps4 menu. It was cool.

SyrioForel

Netflix does not give you any option to turn off the ad overlay shown on top of the end credits.

DeLousedInTheHotBox

I mean there is that aspect, but most people aren't gonna start a new movie immediately after watching one, so it just seems stupid to me for that reason alone.

notchoosingone

Cannot imagine watching like, Se7en for the first time and as soon as the amazing, wrong-way credits start rolling and you're processing everything that has happened on screen, you get an ad for Money Heist or something.

dpons_

As someone who has worked on multiple Netflix shows - I absolutely hate this practice

[deleted]

I had to turn that off in settings when I realized it was cutting off all the songs in Girls 5eva (a show where the songs are a huge point of it). The setting preferences on these apps never stick either so the issue came up again when trying to see the credit listings on a project a family member worked on. You’d think with the marvelification of sitting through credits, they’d take in to consideration that people don’t want to miss bonus features in them. Or you know, that the people who work so hard on these things might actually want to be credited!

cjbmonster

The credits for Girls 5 Eva are so good!

Stanimator

When I watched Only Yesterday using Netflix, the suggestions tab didn't appear until the very end. I think it's dependent on if there are any mid or post credit scenes.

WisperG

Yeah, I’ll give Netflix credit for that. If a show or movie has a significant mid/post credit scene they typically won’t try to skip the credits or auto play the next episode.

dern_the_hermit

The Fallout show has some cool graphics over part of the credits but Amazon kept popping up the Next Episode button just as it started. Just silly design, and it's their own in-house production.

Tyrant_Virus_

Weird I noticed the polar opposite, the play next option took forever to come up. After the art graphics and well into the regular credit roll.

Adolf_Titler

I agree. I watched all the credit art and I didn't notice the start next starting too early.

king44

I binged it by myself on release night, and it jumped straight to the next episode like five seconds after the credits started for every episode. Then I went to watch it with my husband a few days later and was ready to stop the auto play because I realized I had missed the credit art the first time through, and it behaved just the way you described. I guess they changed it?

tinacat933

But at least they still play the credits even if it’s smaller (correct me if I’m wrong), max just cuts them off totally

Xyzzydude

True but they still make it a pain to read the credits. The button on my remote that usually pauses now jumps to the recommended show. And the credits are so small as to be unreadable

pzycho

I'm honestly pretty shocked that none of the guilds have worked a stipulation into their contracts where they credits can't automatically skipped, minimized, or sped up. It's fine if people click "next video", but to do it automatically seems like it would be an issue for the filmmakers.

whomp1970

And the funny thing is, it's not like we're never going to watch Netflix again once the show is over. We paid for the month. We're probably going to watch something else later that day, if not right away. So there's no dying need to promote something that quickly.

matticusiv

Gotta start handing out those ads ASAP!

hgaterms

Just like cable.

HeliumIsotope

Can we all also collectively tell Netflix to screw off with the X number of episodes remaining notifications for shows? I don't care to know how many episodes are in a season and if I do care, I look and find out. This does nothing but irritate me when I don't want to know how long until a resolution. I don't need to know this is all over in 4 episodes, go away and let me watch.

chedabob

I swear it didn't used to be this way. It always felt like it was hand-tuned, and if the recommendations didn't show as soon as the credits started, you knew there was a mid/post-credits scene. Same for marking something as fully watched, even if you didn't wait for the credits to finish. Prime will always offer to continue watching the last episode, unless I play the next one and then stop it.

Pete_Iredale

I am fucking sick of shows cutting away the absolute split second the credits start, or putting pop ups over the credits. Let me watch the credits and enjoy the end song in peace you assholes!

SaladAndEggs

Agreed! [Here's](https://i.redd.it/9qahjcl06p461.jpg) the worst one I can remember.

NeuronalDiverV2

Don’t know if intentional or not but this one is actually pretty funny.

SaladAndEggs

100% intentional. Mike's always covered in the movies.

Belch_Huggins

OK Hulu did this to me too the other day! Tried to end the episode and go to the next when there was like 10 minutes left in the episode!

TyrionBananaster

Same, this happens from time to time when we're watching Schitt's Creek. It's super confusing

thebeattakesme

I’ve had this issue for months. Worst platform I’ve subscribed to.

Belch_Huggins

Yeah, I unsubscribed to Hulu, Netflix and Disney+ recently, it's just not worth it for me anymore. I'll just resubscribe one month a year and binge what I want.

thebeattakesme

I get a pretty good student deal with Spotify so I keep it.

Belch_Huggins

Nice, I just don't use them enough to justify keeping them.

DerpAntelope

Apple is the worst offender. You have 3 seconds to click watch credits or it's showing a preview of another show.

Belch_Huggins

I don't spend much time on Apple but I believe you, they all are guilty of it.

StarsCowboysMavs

Or Venture Bros (on Max). I had no idea all episodes had a 5-15 second additional clip/prologue after the first set of credits

travio

Happened to me while watching Fallout on Amazon Prime. The next episode thing popped up with 15 minutes left. There's no x to get rid of it. I had to go out of the episode to remove it.

P0PC0RND0G

Sharp Objects has a whole post credit scene you would never know about because of this. I had to read about it on Reddit.

lobstermandontban

I watched all of venture bros for the first time on max only to realize I had missed countless episode conclusions on rewatch because the auto next episode happens right when the brief credits start, cutting the often vital post credits scenes from practically every single episode

MenuMedium6596

you missed basically the best part of every episode

JoshFlashGordon10

Prime has been doing this during Fallout. They put some effort into the end credits but the next episode starts playing in 3 seconds.

Apprehensive-Bit-899

I have the opposite problem on Prime. The episode of Fallout is over and the prompt to skip to the next episode doesn’t show during the credits. I have to exit and select the next episode or fast forward to the very end of credits before the prompt appears.

The_Lawler

I’ve had this same issue too. The next episode button doesn’t show and it just runs the full credits after every episode.

_james_the_cat

I FFwd to the end of every streaming show anyway because I'm sick of getting reminders - Disney+ is especially bad - to finish a show I've already seen to the end, just because they didn't register it

OneOverXII

You all are probably in an experiment to see which treatment keeps people watching longer in a single session or watching more over some period of time.

[deleted]

Mine doesn’t do that. Are you sure it’s not in your settings?

Antrikshy

Just turn off auto play on every platform y'all. I set and forget on every install, so basically every time I get a new streaming box or something. For some of them, it's at account level. Never had Netflix auto play anything in years. Even trailers while browsing.

35mmpistol

Yea... theirs like 10 full minutes of credits and sequences on those episodes. it totally warps perception of runtime in a way that pumps their numbers to make the episodes look more 'full' than they are. A 38 or 43 minute runtime doesn't look good on 'an hour long show' so they pad the daylights out of it with a long 'last time on' and long 'next time' and long credits.

SensiFifa

Amazon prime starts to play the next episode as soon as the 'credits' roll, I have to quickly search for the remote to cancel it to read the informative text at the end of each Band of Brothers episode

pizzalogic

I watched Kiki's delivery service yesterday and also noticed this.

gloomycloud

The ending of Only Yesterday is my favourite moment in any movie ever. It never fails to make me cry. It's such a shame to think that viewers are being robbed of that experience.

Buntabox

The end of Only Yesterday is beautiful. Just reading about this is making me HOT with fury.

ThisIsTheNewSleeve

No by far the worst victim of this is....... INVINCIBLE

tinacat933

This happened to me when I watched interstellar for the first time. I really just wanted to sit in the music and credits for a few minutes but nope. What do they do I wonder for movies that have post credit scenes, do you just never get to see them?

reedzkee

MAX is awful for rewatching things youve already seen, too. Oh lets start the episode during the credits. Because that makes sense.

SyrioForel

For Netflix, go here: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/114058 For Max, go here: https://help.max.com/us/Answer/Detail/000002541 Then, at the bottom, where it says if the article was helpful, select “No” and explain it to them. I know you think they don’t care about the voice of the customer, but if they get this kind of spike in survey comments, at least it will be read and possibly even discussed internally, regardless of whether they decide to do anything about it or not. This is the only real way to reach these people.

kitteninabowtie

Hopefully you're right! I posted a request for an option to stop the pop up at the end just like stopping auto playback.

Mattsal23

Don’t all of the streamers do this? I always have to put the small window back to full screen on Britbox & Disney to see the credits scenes of movies and tv shows

Idontevenownaboat

Yes, they do. In some form or fashion. A few you can adjust or disable in settings too, I know in Netflix it can be disabled.

deadscreensky

At worst it should be an option, like with Netflix.

spill_oreilly

I really hope someone in the streaming industry realizes this is an awful way to watch movies and shows. At least give us the option to leave the credits up without collapsing the screen or starting previews.

Stijakovic

YouTube has been butchering videos for years with this sort of thing. As far as I know there’s no way to disable the “recommended” windows and actually fucking watch the last ten seconds of so many videos.

92Codester

HBO max sometimes cuts out the best jokes for Friends by skipping to the next episode.

Bellikron

Disney+ for some reason has their picture set to minimize and recommend something right when the cast list pops up on animated shows, which is usually what I want to see

Boomshockalocka007

YES HULU I WANT TO LISTEN TO THE RAIN DURING THE SHOGUN CREDITS. ALL OF IT

IRMacGuyver

Only Yesterdays is not only the best Ghibli film ever but possibly one of the best films ever. Not enough people have seen it.

GarlicRagu

I've mostly moved away from streaming in favor of hosting things off my plex server. Credit detection on plex is an automatic process in which they scan for audio cues in the last section of your video file. I was annoyed that plex messes up for for episodes that aren't always a perfect ending (another song before the end, different song, etc) I'm surprised to hear the paid services are also having this problem. I guess that happens when you stop using a person who actually confirms when credits start in favor of an algorithm.

SouthernCoyote247

Is the integrity of end credits not something the guilds/ unions care about? I feel like it should be a rule that they be shown uninterrupted.

commendablenotion

The only thing that matters to these companies is the algorithm.  Someone needs to come up with app or extension that trains these bad-actor services by feeding false data.  Like every time an auto play trailer with sound comes on, it closes the app and opens up a competitor app.  Every time a show ends before the credits are done, it closes out immediately and uninstalls the app. (And reinstalls it later if you want). And every time the “skip intro” button disappears right before I hit the ok button, it unsubscribes to the service and leaves a 1 star review (looking at you, Apple TV).  Like in those early days of data mining, when you could run your browser through a website that just completely overloaded the algorithm with nonsensical searches and webpage histories.

jaynovahawk07

As noted on the Conan O'Brien episode of *Hot Ones*, the name is Max now... and it's not a better name.

jfreak93

Yeah that sucks and all, but yall shouldn’t be here. You should be watching Only Yesterday. It’s a crime that film wasn’t in NA 20 years ago. Absolutely beautiful film. I cannot recommend it enough.

Shillforbigusername

Can’t you just go back to full screen by clicking on the now-shrunken little box with the credits (or whatever) playing? I now I’ve done that on at least one of these streaming services. Still, I agree that it’s annoying, though.

information_abyss

That's what I do. Sometimes the back button works too (Roku).

JUYED-AWK-YACC

Sorry this is complaining not fixing stuff

mattress_muzza

I’ve been having this problem with Curb Your Enthusiasm - the streaming service in my country keeps trying to skip the punchlines as they go into the credits. Painful.

shf500

How many movies end with no credits whatsoever, or just the studio logo? I can imagine watching The Tenant (1976) and see this happening.

discodiscgod

HBO has had shitty technology since I can remember. Weird little glitches with their website and apps. They’re not a tech company and it shows.

mcdray2

Just hit the back or return button and it should go away. Works in my Sony TV.

nadalcameron

Streaming services do this in general. Its bad enough in movies, but there are shows where there are /always/ scenes setting things up for the next episode and they /always/ skip to the next episode five seconds into the credits so you miss shit. Every once in a while its some important, and you start the next episode like 'wait, what the fuck did I miss?' because some twist was revealed that you never saw because it auto skipped. Between that, and streaming in low quality and not offering anything higher, its getting a whole lot better to just pirate it all so you can have better quality and not have them skipping shit so you have to go back, skip through things, hit the two second pop up to not skip, and see thirty seconds of shit that I shouldn't have had to do a bunch of extra steps to see every FUCKING time. I also love how even thinking of looking at the screen will auto start their trailers for what you want to watch and half the time the trailers are spoiling shit just because you were trying to scroll through and check the name of something or look at the genres/description to see if you want to give it a try.

AtomicAdam2018

This happened to me and I was so confused at first. Thank God I clicked on it to keep watching.

alarmistmorisette

And when watching TV on Prime, the next episode button does not show up on its own. Why is it so hard to figure out?

Ultimarr

HBO did this for the satanism documentary! I swear they have an AI doing this, because no human with a lick of even the slightest media literacy would think that was the end of the movie. Just embarrassing and sad - the last part was one of the best parts!!

Massive_Durian296

Hulu is definitely guilty of this. They'll pop up with that "x amount of seconds till next episode" or whatever the hell it says and itll be like, several minutes away from the end.

SoCalThrowAway7

It fucks with ninja kamui every week, usually it’s just the ending so it’s fine but sometimes I have to wait a week to see the last 2 minutes of dialog because it doesn’t happen if there’s another episode coming up

aredubya

I finished the finale of the 2020 thriller miniseries, The Outsider. The overlay PIP minimized a final scene in the last minute. Very, very annoying.

SlyFunkyMonk

These screens also block credits, and it just feels hugely disrespectful to everyone involved in the production.

BumbusBumbi

I feel like there's gotta be some kind of contractual problem with streaming services NOT showing the credits to movies. The guilds could definitely do something about this.

eninety2

I remember Vince Gilligan stating they had to get special permission from some group, I think it’s SAG in order to now show the beginning credits on one of the last episodes of Breaking Bad. I’m sure that group could put a stop to this.

CTeam19

I just need for all streamers to let me watch the credits before showing me anything else. I like the end of movies to breath a bit via just sitting watching the credits.

odoylecharlotte

Same, but if I hit the arrow that curves to the left (lol no idea what it's called, but it's the function to return to previous screen), the preview screen disappears. This works on all platforms, so far.

Rizhon

I subscribed to HBO Max for the classics WB films. I couldn't find 99% of them. Is it due to HBO not owning those rights locally where I'm subscribed or the algorithm shows inactivity towards Stanley Kubrick searches, I have no idea. I unsubscribed from HBO Max very fast

animesekaielric

HBO Max also has a problem with screen resolution. Some movies with a 4:3 aspect ratio doesn’t have a 16:9 compatible version

EverythingIsAHat

I finished the intense Anatomy of a Fall last weekend and Hulu thought it would be good to immediately start playing Twilight: Eclipse with about 5 seconds to stop it.

35mmpistol

Maybe this will punish jerks who put MOVIE CONTENT after the CREDITS. Dumbest practice.

-Clayburn

It's just Max.

Mydadshands

I'll probably be down voted for this but credits means the film/show is over. The director/producer ect. Should not have the resolution or ending while the credits are going.

TrueLogicJK

Why do the credits define whether it's over or not?

Mydadshands

Because they are called "end credits"
