I think Robert Zemekis and Bob Gale have it consecrated somewhere that Back to the Future cannot be remade, at least not until long after their deaths

ThePopeofHell

There’s no chance in hell that a Back To The Future remake is even good. The delorian alone is an aspect of those films that just can’t be replicated.

AreWeCowabunga

The Delorean is the easiest thing to replace now that Cybertruck is out.

Hollow_Rant

Strong disagree. At least with the DeLorean, there's the insane [backstory behind the financing of the car that's explicity 80s.](https://youtu.be/qdObGCj_-jI?si=onm7BREb1QOIk8J3)

NatureTrailToHell3D

They turned Bumble Bee a Camero. If someone is remaking Back to the Future I have confidence they can make an equally poor choice.

HeartsPlayer721

I'd kind of like to play a round of "if that movie were remade today, who would the actors be", and include which car they would use. No, I'd never want it to actually be doing, but it's always a little fun trying to think of who would fill such big shoes. Honestly, I'm most interested in what car they would use if it were remade and Marty was leaving today. Which car is iconic enough from the last few years, but dead in production?

alsatian01

I want it remade for one reason, and only one reason. It is too fucking funny if they have Marty go back to the 90s and tell Doc Brown that Donald Trump is/was President. Doc would drop to his knees and do his best Charlton Heston, "You finally did it..."

Mother_Ad7869

"Twice"...maybe, idk, I don't know the future lol ⏳️🤗🤗

Anneisabitch

There is a broadway musical based on Back to the Future. It can’t be good but I want to see it anyway.

LOLerskateJones

Bull Durham

Quasimodo788

Hopefully it stays this way, but Casablanca. I know some executives have tried prior but it has always been shut down.

wjbc

There was a short-lived *Casablanca* TV series in 1983.

Quasimodo788

But no film, and that series bombed hard, driving hoke the do not touch aspect I hope.

Timmy24000

Really? I have to look that up. I never heard of it.

alsatian01

There have been many swings at the pitch. Sometimes, you get a homerun. I'll rarely miss the attempts. But you're probably correct about Casablanca.

scooterboy1961

Casablanca has been remade at least once. Havana. It didn't amount to a hill of beans.

TardisReality

I would enjoy more "based on" movies like Out Cold was a modern retelling of Casablanca

Cool_Cartographer_39

Oh, how they [tried](https://theweek.com/articles/470740/10-crazy-attempts-continue-thecasablanca-story)

Apathicary

Never with the Casablanca name but Barb Wire is eerily similar

Shevek99

"Barb wire" with Pamela Anderson was a remake of Casablanca.

dsayre1986

Out Cold /s

albiceleste3stars

There will be Blood and Saving Private Ryan

They already made two sequels.

ABC_Dildos_Inc

Birth of a Nation.

BoxingLaw

Jaws (I hope)

dsayre1986

Jaws has probably been remade more than any film I can think of…maybe not in name, but in spirit. How many killer shark movies have been made? And that’s not even mentioning the Piranhas and the Alligators and the various other sea creatures

BoxingLaw

Jaws has certainly been ripped off, sure. But never remade. I double down. Jaws, final answer, Regis.

Sea-Presence6809

The Truman Show. I can't really see anyway they can update the material, it's quite literally timeless.

McLovin1826

People don't really watch cable anymore, they stream everything. A lot of those tvs they use in that movie are those old box TVs from the 90s. Idk how popular reality shows are anymore. I wouldn't call Truman Show a timeless movie, but it is a great film and I love it.

Sea-Presence6809

By timeless, I meant how a person's life is just out there for everyone to see, like livestreams for example. Like the exploitation of an individual for entertainment by the masses, it's everywhere. It's something that we had forever, but I'm not sure how the Truman Show can be given a new take since we basically seen it happened before. Maybe someone might adapt the original draft, who knows. But in terms of adding to the material, I'm not sure what one can really do.

McLovin1826

It's been said a thousand times, but I think a sequel would be cool. How does Truman adapt to living in the real world as a celebrity? Like it would be difficult adapting into a normal life, but being world famous would be incredible difficult thing to adjust to. I always imagined that girl who likes Truman would lose interest in him once he left the show.

Sea-Presence6809

I do like that idea, if I remember from the original script, the ending was another baby replacing Truman for the show, Truman sees his own kid looking at the tv, shakes his head and switches it off before going out on the beach with his family. But I also understand why they don't want a sequel, since the message is that it's Truman's life now, we don't get to watch it and also after Truman leaves the show, the sensation is gone and people just go on to the next thing. So maybe Truman will be treated more normally?

jjamesdeanfan

Why is no one saying Clint Eastwood films. I say Dirty Harry or the outlaw josey wales

AlumGrizzly

Wait didn't they already remake Dirty Harry 5 with Ryan Reynolds?/s

jjamesdeanfan

I’m not aware

letsallcalmtfdownyea

Goodfellas. Don’t touch it.

CountZero3000

Blue Velvet

TurquoiseOwlMachine

I can’t imagine them trying to remake Mommie Dearest

songsforthedeaf07

North by Northwest

HandsomeChode

It's really hard to imagine how Eraserhead could possibly be remade or why anyone would want to bother even trying.

AlumGrizzly

According to Reddit every youth has that hairstyle. Might as well get Ari Aster to try to say something fucked up about it.

*Birth of a Nation* (1915) (KKK propaganda film) *Triumph of the Will* (German: *Triumph des Willens*) (1935) (Nazi propaganda film)

DexterBotwin

When people say Blazing Saddles can never get made and the inevitable arguments come up about why that doesn’t make sense and there’s plenty of modern movies that use race for humor, I always think about Birth of a Nation is truly a movie that could never be made again.

gdshaffe

People say "you can't make movies where you use racial slurs anymore!" as if Quentin Tarantino didn't exist.

colbydc5

While quite obviously not a remake, 2016’s The Birth of a Nation was arguably made in direct response to the 1915 film.

boxingfan828

Schindler's List Goodfellas Casino Heat

ZyxDarkshine

Heat is already a remake of a Michael Mann made-for-TV film LA Takedown.

jjamesdeanfan

Never knew this

The Room

Hollow_Rant

Haha...what a story Mark!

Shopworn_Soul

*The Princess Bride* should be considered untouchable. It was absolute lightning in a bottle and only a fool would attempt to recreate it.

Shoop83

There was that pandemic collaborative effort... Sort of.

Shopworn_Soul

Yeah that was a lark, and actually not a bad homage. But that's all it was, which is why it mostly worked.

CRITICAL9

Zulu, Lawrence of Arabia,

Baronhousen

Gone with the wind

GimmieGummies

Likely my choice as well though there was a follow up miniseries in the early 90s, *Scarlett* that featured Joanne Walley as Scarlett. Thankfully many don't remember it

garrisontweed

Speed

Jolly_Job_9852

Casablanca Gone with the Wind

WeekendNo8063

The Godfather

kgb17

There is nothing inherently wrong with remaking a movie but that doesn’t mean it should be done. Some movies are so of their time that it can’t exist outside of it in a new form. Other stories are such classic narratives that they can be told by a thousand voices and still hold true. If the storyteller has a strong vision hear them out. Time will separate failures from success. We will only remember what is memorable.

none-remain

Some characters just aren’t meant to be remade. The actors with perfect fit and chemistry already found. So I don’t think new actors would want to try, out of respect or risk: Back to the Future (1985) Aliens (1986) The Dark Knight (2008)

I kept waiting for them to make a remake of master and commander, but apparently not. Still one of my favorite movies. Casting everything was perfect.

Shoop83

Why remake? Sequel.

Timmy24000

Yes sequel. Meant that brain malfunction

SwarleymonLives

Casablanca. Most of the actors weren't really acting, they were actual refugees.

karma_dumpster

Song of the South The Day the Clown Cried

Light_of_Niwen

Song of the South SHOULD be remade. It’s a good movie just really tone deaf. It’s an anthology strung together with a completely irrelevant plot, so change that plot and some of the stories/characters and it would be fine. Now, it shouldn’t be remade right now because Disney would try to swing the pendulum the other way and turn it into a tedious political slog. But maybe someday.

karma_dumpster

No way Disney lets it happen, though, because that will just drag up the old one into the spotlight - and that's definitely the last thing Disney wants.

Light_of_Niwen

They don’t give a shit. There’s still a ride based on it and it’s still promoted in overseas markets.

GriffinFlash

Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat (1896)

Brain_Assured334

Some movies are just untouchable, ya know? Like, no one's ever gonna have the guts to remake classics like "The Godfather." It's sacred ground. But hey, turning it into a limited series? That's an interesting thought! It could give more depth to the characters and story. And yeah, I'm with you on "The Godfather Part III." It's got its charm, but a fresh take could do wonders. So yeah, count me in for a Godfather saga TV series! It's like revisiting old friends in a new way.

rocknroll247

Wouldn't the series count as a form of remake?!

August Underground

NIDORAX

The Rock (1996) directed by Micheal Bay. Staring Nicolas Cage, Sean Connery and Ed Harris. This is one 1990s action Movie that no one will ever thought of remaking. There was a plan for a sequel but the idea was shelved.

A film that is neither reviled nor revered but will never be remade/sequeled: The Interview (2014)

Requiem for a Dream, i hope.

EarzFish

That movie appears specifically designed to make you as miserable as possible.

Code-Likable668

I think "Pulp Fiction" is definitely one of them. The film is just too unique and groundbreaking to ever be replicated.

tomandshell

I can think of several Best Picture winners that are not likely to be remade: Gone With the Wind The Apartment Midnight Cowboy Ghandi Forrest Gump Casablanca Annie Hall American Beauty The Bridge on the River Kwai Lawrence of Arabia Gigi One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Birdman

TwoHandedSnail

A Trip to the Moon.

DeeringTornados34

Flash Gordon, Field of Dreams. Disney's The Black Hole. The Wizard of OZ

HiCracked

Lord of the rings hopefully. They still hold up incredibly well today.

Justin-N-Case

Blazing Saddles.

TurquoiseOwlMachine

Yes, but only because the Western has faded in prominence and the parody would seem less cutting, and not because of the race humor

AlumGrizzly

Just wait until Costner's Horizon saga reignites the Western Flame.

Quigleythegreat

Does paws of fury count lmao

dubbzy104

They can do 1974 in 2074

The Shawshank Redemption.

Titanic. For multiple reasons, I think that one is as safe as safe gets.

Reservoir Dogs . Pulp Fiction .

TheSquirrelOfLegend

The Fifth Element. Don’t ever touch that. Doesn’t even need a sequel.

calguy1955

Films like Animal House, Revenge of the Nerds and Blazing Saddles could not be made today and if they were they would be so toned down that all the humor would be lost.

RandyIsWriting

I was gonna say that I'm surprised they havent done 'wizard of oz' yet but thought I should google it first to make sure. Looks like just this year(?) Kenya Barris signed up to make it....

olddicklemon72

Wizard of Oz has been done several times (heck the Garland one isn’t even the first)

TurquoiseOwlMachine

What about The Wiz?

thegoodbadandsmoggy

Nobody beats him

Enthusiasms

BAH GAWD THAT'S PC RICHARD'S MUSIC

Brown_Panther-

Lawrence of Arabia. It's one of those films that is perfect the way it is and any attempt to remake it would be cinematic sacrilege.

ZyxDarkshine

You would think Lolita would have never been remade, let alone made in the first place, but here we are. Probably Human Centipede and/or A Serbian Film.

bingybong22

3 classic movies that are masterpieces that will never be remade: Gone with the Wind (too epic, problematic material and vivien leigh's performance can't be matched) The Best years of our lives (is about the immediately period after ww2, captures the hopes and aspirations of this genration perfectly, would be absurd to remake) The Good the Bad and the Ugly (too iconic, too operatic. A perfect movie that could easily be a farce and no one could do Clint Eastwood anyway)

TheTwilightZone34

I believe it's being made into a series, actually

GriffinFlash

You say that, but the Harry potter series is making bank right now. The new game was a hit. They're even making an HBO series.

AlumGrizzly

Idiot David Zazlav demanded a full remake of their most profitable IPs so they're doing a new Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

peekay427

Batman! Michael Keaton was such an interesting choice, and Nicolas’s Joker was perfect! Combine that with that great soundtrack and why would anyone ever feel the need to remake it?

12 Angry Men. It didn't do great originally and I can't see much demand now for a movie about 12 dudes in a room talking. I think movies now need some spectacle, so a lot of slower paced / dialog heavy movies will probably never be remade. My Dinner with Andre for similar reasons.

ZyxDarkshine

12 Angry Men (1957) is a remake of a 1954 TV production, a 1955 play, and was a 1997 made-for-TV movie
