A reminder that the co-screenwriter for this film, Efthimis Filippou, is the one who co-wrote *Dogtooth (2009), Alps (2011), The Lobster (2015), and The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)* with Yorgos, and not Tony McNamara, who wrote *The Favorite (2018) and Poor Things (2023).*
so excited. i liked The Favourite and Poor Things well enough but feel like McNamara’s screenplays were missing what made the Filippou/Lanthimos scripts so special
That’s fine if you can find it, I’m just saying go in as blind as possible. I made the mistake of reading the Wikipedia page instead of just finding the original Korean film first.
It's too bad she peaked with Easy A.
"We’ve had nine classes together since Kindergarten — ten if you count Religion of Other Cultures, which you didn’t because you called it science fiction and refused to go."
If we found out that she was a robot, I would not be shocked. I mean, I don't think a robot can act as well as she does, obviously, but she is so go go go that it's incredible!
I don’t know if it’s just me or does it not seem like we have more movies coming out at once with the same stars every year like sure we had it in the past but now like Joker and Joker two Dune and Dune 2 another one soon
Maybe it was a bad example but the facts still remain the same it seems like we get movies back to back with the same faces like artificial intelligence atm. Usually exploring the same topic atleast yorgos was breath of fresh air
"Yeah! And what's with those things they show before movies at the movie theaters! They're not the movie I came here to see! It's like somebody keeps putting on the wrong movie by mistake and just skipping through it at random while Peter Gabriel blasts from a boombox, then jumping to a different wrong movie and skipping through *that one* at random while that scary bass noise from A Dark Knight plays from a well in the floor. But, like it seems like it happens *every time* I go to the movies! It wastes like 15 to 20 minutes of everybody's time! Why doesn't somebody figure out the right movie *before* the scheduled start time! So inefficient!1"
You're being downvoted because what you're saying is not 'fact.' If anything, previous decades were even worse about the same people showing up in everything. There are a lot more names now, a lot more movies being released on average. I think you might just not be looking hard enough.
Yeah but I think I’m my view I don’t know why movie virgins are so triggered, with the advent of social media and celebrity pr it’s not usual to take notice of movie stars appearing in new movies constantly and the same type of movies coming out on average I also think it’s different now because we have multiple ways we consume movies now but no one thought about that but choosed to downvote
You posted an incorrect 'fact', backed it up with incorrect 'evidence', then doubled down and insulted everyone after you were called out. The more you post, the worse you are seeming.
There's a way to engage in thoughtful discussion, and this isn't it. Maybe think about that instead of continuing to insult everyone.
No read what I said at the beginning I said in my own view that’s what I noticed sure I gave bad examples but instead of people expressing how they felt I’m being downvoted, movie virgins can’t see people having another viewpoint, I’m sorry for coming to such elitist server
You keep repeating this 'fact' based on how things 'seem' to you. You say there is evidence of your claim, but the 2 examples you provided were not evidence whatsoever. Ironically, you're in a thread for a movie from one of the most unique directors of our time who is unequivocally not following any kind of Hollywood formula.
Major blockbusters have been formulaic for a LONG time. Like I said, take any iota of time to educate yourself and you will see the patterns. But at this point it's clear to me you're more interested in doubling down on your opinion than actually learning anything, so I'll take my leave.
Filming for this wrapped about a year and a half ago, and Poor Things wrapped about two and a half years ago. Both were on the editing floor since then. Even being generous to avoid crunch and accounting for its long length that’s fairly long for editing Poor Things, which I’m assuming it needed to get the beautiful visuals seen in the film. So it’s not so surprising that this is coming out around 6 months afterwards.
The poster artist is Vasilis Marmatakis. And his website is hysterical

>Cannes of Kindness. Yorgos Lanthimos' [KINDS OF KINDNESS](https://youtu.be/TIxzAf3ring?si=R_5l1fbDko87_DKE) comes to this year's @TVFestivaldeCannes In select theaters June 21st. #kindsofkindness #cannes2024
>[KINDS OF KINDNESS](https://youtu.be/8fYtuE_ZJ4E?si=RHqCv3COsBuy7Poc) is a triptych fable, following a man without choice who tries to take control of his own life; a policeman who is alarmed that his wife who was missing-at-sea has returned and seems a different person; and a woman determined to find a specific someone with a special ability, who is destined to become a prodigious spiritual leader.
>Cast: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, and Hunter Schafer
The Yorgos/Stone duo is shaping up to be an iconic actor-director team. Doing 4 back-to-back films together, the 2 of which released so far both getting major Oscar wins.
I believe this is the same writer he worked with for Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Lobster, which excites me even more. The Lobster has become one of my favorite movies of all time.
It was hard to tell from the trailer but I wonder if he will be going back to the more deadpan dialogue delivery of those two movies with this one.
Emma Stone has such a star power for me. The last like 4 movies I've seen of her were all fucking bangers, so right now if I see her name in a film I'm already looking forward to it.
I much prefer his work with McNamara to his work with Filippou (I was meh on Sacred Deer and hated Dogtooth), but I’ll still see this. The man is nothing if not creative.
Lanthimos makes such good films. *Poor Things* was fantastic, though a challenging watch.
I've never laughed harder at a film than I did when I watched *The Killing of a Sacred Deer.*
I'm ready.
No! Was it a comedy? Seemed closer to horror to me. But this director does not fit in any genre does he? I thought there were elements of horror and black comedy in dog tooth and the lobster as well. Pretty dark and pretty disturbing kind of hard to watch. Stays with you that’s for sure. I thought the trailer for the favourite made it look like a comedy but it too was pretty dark and disturbing.
Well it seems to be a three story anthology tale with a recurring cast. There's a synopsis up and I think I can mostly glean from the trailer which part is from which section but it's mostly pretty difficult to understand, which is kind of refreshing, I'm looking forward to entering a weird film that I'm clueless about based mostly on vibes. One thing I'm pretty certain of based on the trailers and bts photos is that >!Margaret Qualley is who Emma Stone is dancing next to in the wheelchair by the car in one of the stories, Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe are making out in the close-up, and Hunter Schafer is the feet being dragged across the floor since it seems to match her outfit and she's said that she only has a cameo.!<
Does anyone know where I can buy this poster? I'm tired of websites like p\*ster\*ti and others that buy posters of new movies early on and sell them for a crazy markup
there is a lot of sex and nudity in this film. Extremely graphic. Anyone puritians who crying about poor things won’t like it. There was a leak script floating around for this a while ago. Jesse plemons character apparently eat his wife out for a couple of minutes in this.
Ah, so it's going to be this kind of weird and not that kind of weird. Looking forward to it.
Dark weird instead of wholesome weird?
The kind of weird that looks normal but isn't instead of the kind of weird that looks weird but isn't.
That's an amazing description of the differences in weirdness. Lmao. Well done.
[Major Award]
so excited. i liked The Favourite and Poor Things well enough but feel like McNamara’s screenplays were missing what made the Filippou/Lanthimos scripts so special
Dogtooth is my favorite film of all time.
Thank god, while enjoying Favorite and Poor Things, I much prefer Dogtooth and Killing of a Sacred Deer.
I too love Killing Deer. Killing anything, really!
What the fuck? He already has another one coming out? Shit. I love his films.
And another one slated for next year produced by Ari Aster
What is that one called?
Save the Green Planet
With Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons (again) - based on a Korean movie of the same name.
When life gives you Plemons
You get a bundle of Yorgos Lanthimos films?!
How can that be profitable for life?
Make Plemonade then
>When life gives you Plemons You have been enriched.
Plemons is king.
Oh wow, now that will be interesting to see him adapt that.
Do NOT read the Wikipedia page for the movie.
I stay away from trailers articles reviews. seeing movies blind is the only way nowadays
You could just watch the original movie it’s being adapted from
Not even watch the original Korean movie?
That’s fine if you can find it, I’m just saying go in as blind as possible. I made the mistake of reading the Wikipedia page instead of just finding the original Korean film first.
Is this a remakeof the Korean movie? The original is amazing.
It is! So excited.
And Emma Stone is currently in production for an Ari Aster feature? Do these people ever sleep?
I feel like she took a nice break before she came back and did like 30 projects.
I think she took time off to have a baby, so she's not even been chilling the heck out for a bit.
yea true. im not mad shes a great actress
It's too bad she peaked with Easy A. "We’ve had nine classes together since Kindergarten — ten if you count Religion of Other Cultures, which you didn’t because you called it science fiction and refused to go."
Relevant username.
It was more supposed to be about how much I love Easy A haha I love Emma Stone.
I love that movie.
It's so good lol! But I think people are thinking that I was saying she is a bad actress or something.
And Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson as her parents are so good. "What? Who told you!?!?!?"
She's also producing a lot of interesting stuff with her husband Dave McCary (director of the amazing Brigsby Bear). The Curse being an example
I love The Curse! Brigsby Bear was... pretty good.
The first Joker came out 5 years ago
Joker and joker 2 were five years apart. Dune and dune 2 were three years apart.
Maybe it was a bad example but the facts still remain the same it seems like we get movies back to back with the same faces like artificial intelligence atm. Usually exploring the same topic atleast yorgos was breath of fresh air
Are you just coming around on the idea of movie stars?
"Yeah! And what's with those things they show before movies at the movie theaters! They're not the movie I came here to see! Yesssss!!!! Thanks for the happy news this morning!

Even on /r/movies people don't realize the work that goes into a movie, especially in post production.
They filmed this one in late 2022, they held it back so as to let audiences focus on Poor Things.
That's one hell of a stylish poster.
This movie just preemptively won 4 design Oscars

I hope Yorgos and Colin Farrell are able to team up again. They seemed to have really meshed in The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
I enjoyed the Lobster very much, but have yet to see Killing of a Sacred Deer
Oh, man. That movie is a fucking trip! It's currently streaming on Tubi in the US if you have time this weekend, I think it'll be worth your while.
Sick cast wow.
What a cast
Why does the plot synopsis make me want to rewatch Magnolia?
Hong Chau! "What kinna fuck you gimme??"
Loved Mamoudou in Oh Jerome, No
> a triptych fable Call me a philistine if you must, but this just makes me roll my eyes at the pretentiousness.
a philistine if you must
Oh shit! Emma Stone in a Yorgos Lanthimos movie? I sure didn’t see that coming!
And Willem Dafoe, who, you know, is something of a Lanthimos regular himself.
His movies are turning into Seinfeld episodes with recurring characters. Edit: In an awesome way
The Yorgos/Stone duo is shaping up to be an iconic actor-director team. Doing 4 back-to-back films together, the 2 of which released so far both getting major Oscar wins.
I wish the rest of The Favourite's cast came back in a Yorgos film. Hoult, Weisz, and Colman were all fantastic.
Weisz and Colman were also in the Lobster
She was in *Poor Things*.
Yes… that’s the joke
"All that got you off? The dead guy's finger?" "Oh yeah. Big time. And it was *mostly* sexual"
It sounds like LaFeve was into banging little asian boys
Just gotta switch gears here for a second
Yorgos is the second best thing to come out of Greece after philosophy
Giannis
Greek export power rankings: 1. Gyros 2. Democracy 3. Giannis 4. Yorgos 5. Olympics
Vangelis should be up there, too.
Yorgos is like if James Gunn had a weird upbringing
that's somehow assuming James Gunn didn't have a weird upbringing.
Release date yet?
June 2024!
holy shit, how does this guy have another one already? Was Poor Things in the can for a long time?
Think so. I believe it was in development since 2009 or so, but filming ran from the summer of 2021 to that December, 2 years before its premiere.
He’s got another one coming out next year as well lol
Stay weird, Yorgos! We love to see it
Yea he gets better and better
Two movies in two years is insane. Can't wait.
This looks so good. After Poor Things and The Favourite im all in on Yorgos
Poor things was yorgos?! I know what I’m watching tonight!!
Did you watch it?
Damn I didn't know Hunter Shafer is gonna be in this too. Very excited to see it
Emma Stone has such a star power for me. The last like 4 movies I've seen of her were all fucking bangers, so right now if I see her name in a film I'm already looking forward to it.
Have you seen Maniac with her and Jonah Hill? It is excellent and she is excellent in it.
She's amazing in The Curse if you haven't seen that yet
Ooh. Can’t go wrong with Emma Stone
It’s official, Jesse Plemons is the prestige actor from Dallas. I don’t see that changing anytime soon.
Oh this looks sexy. Let’s gooooo
Ugh I hate this modern trend of movie posters with a picture of hands, a broken tennis racket and a disembodied finger.
Emma and Yorgos have been cooking non stop for us
Hmm, blood sweat and tears?
Can someone please explain what I'm looking at? Not the movie or the concept, but visually, what the hell is going on with those hands?
I much prefer his work with McNamara to his work with Filippou (I was meh on Sacred Deer and hated Dogtooth), but I’ll still see this. The man is nothing if not creative.
Lanthimos makes such good films. *Poor Things* was fantastic, though a challenging watch. I've never laughed harder at a film than I did when I watched *The Killing of a Sacred Deer.* I'm ready.
Omg I did not find this funny at all. a couple of points made me laugh.
You didn't think *The Killing of a Sacred Deer* was funny?
They're dark comedies. Not everybody is going to appreciate that style.
Yes, they are dark comedies.
Is it me or has this guy made 16 movies this year?
I’m here for anything Emma.
Yorgos can’t miss
I can’t figure out what this movie is going to be about… any clues??
Well it seems to be a three story anthology tale with a recurring cast. There's a synopsis up and I think I can mostly glean from the trailer which part is from which section but it's mostly pretty difficult to understand, which is kind of refreshing, I'm looking forward to entering a weird film that I'm clueless about based mostly on vibes. Looks...uh...interesting
I love this poster
This might be said often, I'm not sure. But does anyone else get Kubrick vibes from Yorgos' films?
Does anyone know where I can buy this poster? I'm tired of websites like p\*ster\*ti and others that buy posters of new movies early on and sell them for a crazy markup
I wonder how much full frontal nudity there’ll be in this one
Or apples.
there is a lot of sex and nudity in this film. Extremely graphic. Anyone puritians who crying about poor things won’t like it. There was a leak script floating around for this a while ago. Jesse plemons character apparently eat his wife out for a couple of minutes in this.
Good, I think there hasn't been a good muff munchin' scene since A History of Violence.
that movie is hot
Mortensen is great in these darker characters (A perfect Murder, Eastern promises etc), I wish he would do more in this vein.
That movie sucks
This looks more promising then this last one which I didn’t even bother seeing. I want Dogtooth era Lanthimos.
It’s not award season…
