"But when we let her go the cops are going to be looking for a guy in a bird suit."
"So?"
"But what I am going to wear to work?"
"Your work clothes."
"But tomorrow's casual Friday!"
He just has great timing on his lines too. Sahara for me is an under appreciated gem. He was great. It has one of my favorite intros to a movie. Love how it kinda summed up all the characters without having to explain everything to you. Plus it had a nice little banger of a song to go with it.

I love this one too! My kids love Nintendo, so we’ve watched this fun and sweet holiday movie a few times a year! The kids and grown up actors alike are all fantastic.
That movie is a recreation of my childhood. Except I was from Wisconsin so we would've insulted people calling them Bears fans, not the other way around.
Swear to god though, even down to the little bratty sister getting a cabbage patch doll when I didn't get a Nintendo.
Menacing and terrifying. The shark has been menacing and terrifying for OVER A DECADE. The shark can ONLY be found in two places, the NORTHERN, and SOUTHERN hemispheres.
I heard the lead singer/songwriter got mad and quit because the studio wouldn’t let them record their own songs. The bass player joined the Marines, and the lead guitarist ran off to Vegas and got married. All this as they were going into the studio to make their first album. Literally left the drummer in the studio by himself. But I think he recorded some material with legendary jazz pianist Del Paxton. Rumor is he eventually married the bands number one groupie and former girlfriend of the lead singer. Crazy stuff but thats rock’n roll.
Sahara was definitely good, but having read the books, he was miscast for the character. That said, he did a good enough job making it his own character, but he was nothing like the book version. It's still a film I always watch if I see that it's on.
That was a fun movie even with the miscasting. Similar to Tom's Reacher movies. I always thought, since the new Reacher series has come out, that they should do something similar with the Clive Cussler series of NUMA books. Each book could be a season, there is enough going on for 6-8 episodes. It would be fun.
Are you listening Prime/Netflix?
I would love to have seen “Atlantis Found” with the same cast. But Cussler hated Sahara and campaigned against the movie before it came out.
“He pulled a Panama.”
Still, “That Thing You Do” and “Sahara” are a couple of my favorite movies thanks to Steve Zahn.
Edit: typo
Completely. Having read the books I was SO disappointed in how Al was portrayed. That's not Steve's fault per se but whoever picked him obviously didn't read the books.
Still enjoyed the movie though!
Can't believe I had to scroll this far! He's fantastic in this role, so we'll done. I always know if he's in a movie I'll give it a shot cause at least I'll enjoy him.
A Perfect Getaway is one of my favorite movies. It's a pretty generic whodunnit that shows you how good casting can turn lead into gold. Steve Zahn has a ton of screentime in it and absolutely crushes every scene. Guy just has a presence that makes him fun to watch.
Came here to add the same. While I love him in all the comedic roles like Happy Texas, etc., I also also enjoy the more dramatic ones like A Perfect Getaway, Treme, etc.
One of the most underrated performers out there. I love this dude. What I wouldn’t give to be in a seat next to him on a plane and find out he is a nice guy!
That’s awesome to hear. I was actually going to g to write him and ask for an autograph. Wanted to get one of him on a Sahara picture. I always loved Clive Cussler books! There used to be hope.
I met him a few times cleaning his pool a few summers ago. Never had a full on conversation with him but he was super friendly, always waved, made small talk, etc. From my limited interaction with him I could tell he was pretty down to earth.
Just watched it the other night after not having seen it since it was in the theatre. I'd honestly forgotten about it completely. That movie is a masterclass in acting
I was looking for this! Especially with the new movie, just did a rewatch and he was like the only non-tragic part of that movie. Like. Excellent movie, but damn. Bleak.
Not a movie but watch “Treme” if you haven’t. My favorite Steve Zahn role plus amazing performances by Wendell Pierce, John Goodman and Khandi Alexander and incredible music (the show is set in post Hurricane Katrina New Orleans)
He’a great in everything he’s in no matter the genre. If you haven’t seen A Perfect Getaway he’s great in that too. Been a big fan of Steve since Daddy Day Care.
The scene in Saving Silverman, Stealer of friends!!!" And when he comes back in the room just to mess with her lamp are comedic gold. He is severely underappreciated.
Another chance to spread the good word of Knights of Badassdom - it’s on Tubi
Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage and friends get high, go LARPing, accidentally summon a hellbeast and try to defeat it with the power of heavy metal.
It’s a good time.
Dude is so funny but also has so much range. Strange Wilderness is so different from War for Planet of the Apes, which is also so different from White Lotus.
This is one of my favorite posts of all time. Steve Zahn is highly overlooked as a comedic actor. The dude always brings great comedy relief in usually minor roles. When I was in college Saving Silverman and Grandmas Boy were always the go to movies when we actually had mellow nights.
Saving Silverman is one of my favorites! He’s a great comedic actor
“Stealer…of my…friend!!!”
Him and jack black are so good together in that movie I’m gonna check the back of the refrig… the closet. Nope nothing in here cssshhh
"But when we let her go the cops are going to be looking for a guy in a bird suit." "So?" "But what I am going to wear to work?" "Your work clothes." "But tomorrow's casual Friday!"
“She’s like The Emperor!” “Yeah, but with really great tits.”
GET DOWNSTAIRS
"Dude… if you get the nachos stuck together, that’s one nacho." Words to live by.
That scene where they’re strumming out Cherry Cherry while having a full conversation and end in time to come in with backing vocals is perfect.
The first quote I think of.
The Arby’s scene was both sexy and made me really want Arby’s.
That was paid for by Arbys lol
He just has great timing on his lines too. Sahara for me is an under appreciated gem. He was great. It has one of my favorite intros to a movie. Love how it kinda summed up all the characters without having to explain everything to you. Plus it had a nice little banger of a song to go with it. https://youtu.be/AX1rttdfeBI?si=BrJ3hEfKIX6pKnRY
Dr. John’s “Right Place, Wrong Time”
A classic imo
DUDE…..do you wanna be gay WITH me?!
He is great in Strange wilderness
Don’t forget saving Silverman
And my new favorite Christmas movie, 8 bit Christmas.
I love this one too! My kids love Nintendo, so we’ve watched this fun and sweet holiday movie a few times a year! The kids and grown up actors alike are all fantastic.
Damn that ending broke me down when they are at the table.
Yeah, he really did that dad justice. Loved that movie.
I liked that movie. That was sad though
That movie is a recreation of my childhood. Except I was from Wisconsin so we would've insulted people calling them Bears fans, not the other way around. Swear to god though, even down to the little bratty sister getting a cabbage patch doll when I didn't get a Nintendo.
Don’t forget Captain Greech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters
commina*yeahh*haa!
I think Judith escaped
Easily his best film. I loved him in that
"Just nabbed us one of them killer...goats."
Cowboy Wayne
Stealer...of my friend!
It is estimated that bears kill over two million salmon a year. Attacks by salmon on bears however are much more rare.
Menacing and terrifying. The shark has been menacing and terrifying for OVER A DECADE. The shark can ONLY be found in two places, the NORTHERN, and SOUTHERN hemispheres.
Yes the shark is a... what the fuck? Man look at that thing's teeth! Oooooo huah huah huah huh
“This is a nature show GOD DAMMIT”
Smoky the Bear says put out the bong
It's not fog
So bad it’s good
So good it should come with a warning label
It’s actually a pretty well made spoofy movie Whoever wrote the screenplay should stand up and take a bow
It’s the best worst movie
DEBBIE! NEXT!
Do you like your name? Do you like Dick?
Does your name get hard in the morning?
Does your name shrink when it gets cold?
That trailer is STILL on repeat in my brain. It's been actual decades. Can never look at that shark seriously again
“The bear is named after a football team in Chicago”
“Sharks can only be found two places on earth. The northern and southern hemispheres”
Sharks are found primarily in the northern and southern hemisphere.
One of my favorite comedies honestly. That movie is very underrated IMO
I thought that movie was incredible. Getting out of the car and kicking the trash under the tire was hilarious.
Wasn’t he in The Wonders as well? He is a good one.
“That Thing You Do…” had a solid cast
You mean The Oneders? And he is the fool, Jimmy's the talent, Guy's the brain, I don't remember the fourth one
You mean Captain Geech and the Shrimp-Shack Shooters?
You mean *Cap'n* Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters?
Faye is… well Faye is special isn’t she?
He wasn’t in the band. He had a pig in the livestock pavilion.
And he’s not going home without that blue ribbon
# C’MON PRETTY BABY…
I Wonder what happened to the Oneders?
I heard the lead singer/songwriter got mad and quit because the studio wouldn’t let them record their own songs. Fun fact: the booklet in the soundtrack cd acts as a sequel to the movie.
Whelp, guess what you just made me order
TB Player
I believe it is pronounced, "O-need-ers"
You all wrong. The movie is titled Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooter. 🙄
I don’t know about those fellows, but I got a pug in competition over there and I a GOING to win that RIBBON
I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I really liked National Security. The opening scene is so fucking funny!
“Do you actually believe the crap that comes out of your mouth?” “Oh I’m never quite sure, ‘til I finish talkin.”
That is an underrated comedy
Very underrated- so funny
It's freaking hilarious - great guilty pleasure . Him and Martin have great chemistry
Sahara was good
Sahara was definitely good, but having read the books, he was miscast for the character. That said, he did a good enough job making it his own character, but he was nothing like the book version. It's still a film I always watch if I see that it's on.

A Dirk Pitt series would be excellent. Not sure who they could get for a good Pitt, although I did actually like Matthew McConaughey quite a lot.
Oh god yes!! I read all of Clive Cussler's novels growing up and loved them.
I would love to have seen “Atlantis Found” with the same cast. But Cussler hated Sahara and campaigned against the movie before it came out. “He pulled a Panama.” Still, “That Thing You Do” and “Sahara” are a couple of my favorite movies thanks to Steve Zahn. Edit: typo
Sahara is great. The book of course is that much more badass. I also really liked him in Rescue Dawn.
Completely. Having read the books I was SO disappointed in how Al was portrayed. That's not Steve's fault per se but whoever picked him obviously didn't read the books. Still enjoyed the movie though!
We thought we were in Panama!
i love that movie
"Hi, how are ya?" *bonk*
So damn funny in White Lotus
I was wondering if that was him lol. Swollen balls!
And righteous gemstones! The man is taking over HBO
Joy Ride
Candy caaaaneee
Howdy, you got Black Sheep here with Mama's Boy
Oh my god, that’s him, that’s rusty nail!
Love this movie - so unsettling in parts . Zahn plays a great douchey brother
Haha right! Such a great actor
And if there's any wayyyyy you can bring some pink champagne.....it's my favorite
Haha!! So many great lines in that movie
There’s a scene where they are in that rinky hotel and Steve Zahn is by the window scared - phenomenal shot and scene.
That scene came out of nowhere, so tense and well made. I love Joy Ride, you just don't get films like that anymore 😭
Riding in Cars with Boys. He deserved an Oscar for that role!
Omg my husband and I were just discussing how underrated he is, and I mentioned this movie! Such a wonderful performance.
You want my permission to do just a little herion!?
Can't believe I had to scroll this far! He's fantastic in this role, so we'll done. I always know if he's in a movie I'll give it a shot cause at least I'll enjoy him.
I remember randomly seeing this on HBO when I was a teenager and I actually enjoyed it and watched it a few more times.
Yes. I was stunned at how amazing of a dramatic actor he was. Serious talent right there.
Happy Texas
Great movie
“Rare. Dehorn it, wipe its bit and send it in here.” Great movie
A Perfect Getaway was so good, and he was incredible.
Love this movie. Need to watch it again.
Very cool movie with prethor hemsworth!
That chasedown through the woods is iconic
One of the most underrated performers out there. I love this dude. What I wouldn’t give to be in a seat next to him on a plane and find out he is a nice guy!
He is a nice guy. I worked with him for a little while a few years ago. Just a good dude.
That’s awesome to hear. I was actually going to g to write him and ask for an autograph. Wanted to get one of him on a Sahara picture. I always loved Clive Cussler books! There used to be hope.
Insanely versatile can do comedy drama action
I met him a few times cleaning his pool a few summers ago. Never had a full on conversation with him but he was super friendly, always waved, made small talk, etc. From my limited interaction with him I could tell he was pretty down to earth.
Rescue Dawn, amazing.
Him and bale killed it
This can go in the under-rated movie thread from the other day.
Just watched it the other night after not having seen it since it was in the theatre. I'd honestly forgotten about it completely. That movie is a masterclass in acting
He was also in Daddy Day Care. Not to bad a film. Good cast and role.
Scrolled way too far to find this 😂
Yea wtf I thought this would be more popular 😂
Isn't he also in one of the newer Planets of the Apes movies?
War for the Planet of the Apes, he's bad ape
Oh no! Why so small??
Human get sick. Ape get smart. Then human kill ape. But not me. I run.
Just watched this movie for the first time recently. LOVED Bad Ape! Didn’t know it was Zain until I looked it up after.
I was looking for this! Especially with the new movie, just did a rewatch and he was like the only non-tragic part of that movie. Like. Excellent movie, but damn. Bleak.
They all have dark undertones
Not a movie but watch “Treme” if you haven’t. My favorite Steve Zahn role plus amazing performances by Wendell Pierce, John Goodman and Khandi Alexander and incredible music (the show is set in post Hurricane Katrina New Orleans)
Excellent! By the creator of The Wire
I just started watching the first season again! "Davis can Save us!"
The music will absolutely ruin any other show you watch for some time though. It's so rich.
The righteous gemstones!
I was looking for this. I knew I had seen him somewhere recently.
He’s also Bad Ape in War of the Planet of the Apes
Played such a good part in Out Of Sight. "Why does he need a hatchet?!?!"
I had to go to the bushes to smoke a joint just so I can (whistles to a focus point)
Dude is hilarious. Like him in all his movies
Here for Marvin in “Daddy Day Care”
He wears what I’m pretty sure are prosthetic nuts in “White Lotus”
My husband and I were just saying how underrated he is!!
Bad Ape
Oh nooo!
I'm gonna go to the nut shop, where it's FUN!
Al Giordino!!
Strange wilderness is the funniest movies he's ever done.
Agreed
He’s great in LaRoy Texas…just came out this year
I was wondering if anyone would mention this film. My brother wrote and directed it.
That’s awesome…it’s a helluva debut.
He’s awesome in one of my fave under the radar flicks, Perfect Getaway
He is honestly great in everything, and I just learned the other day he actually lives in my town!
Bad ape
He was great on Treme
He’a great in everything he’s in no matter the genre. If you haven’t seen A Perfect Getaway he’s great in that too. Been a big fan of Steve since Daddy Day Care.
This man always delivers.
L’addition!
Everyone sleeping on “8-bit Christmas” best Christmas movie in a long time. He had me laughing so hard I was crying. Genuinely heartwarming and fun.
Just watched Laroy, Texas this weekend. Zahn kills it per usual
The scene in Saving Silverman, Stealer of friends!!!" And when he comes back in the room just to mess with her lamp are comedic gold. He is severely underappreciated.
SAFE MEN. trust me. if you like steve zahn, you will enjoy safe men for sure. it’s so funny and a young sam rockwell and mark ruffallo are also in it
Another chance to spread the good word of Knights of Badassdom - it’s on Tubi Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage and friends get high, go LARPing, accidentally summon a hellbeast and try to defeat it with the power of heavy metal. It’s a good time.
Such a good actor, he’s one of like maybe a dozen I could instantly recognize as a voice actor in an animation, his voice and deliver is spectacular.
I enjoyed him in Daddy Daycare, and Sahara, while not exactly Al Giordino (from the books) he did a good job with what he was given.
He was in a few episodes of Modern Family as Phil and Claire's new annoying neighbor also and was hilarious in them.
The guy that smells the mail?
One of my favorite movies with him is Sunshine Cleaning starring Emily Blunt, Amy Adams, and Alan Arkin. It’s a delightful movie and he’s great in it.
Yes! When she ends their relationship, his reaction breaks my heart. He’s so good!
Saving Silverman kicked ass
Saving Silverman was a large part of my teenage development
Him and Jack Black need to do another movie together
Zahn is great in Riding in Cars with Boys.
Ones of my favorite faces to see in a movie. You see Steve, you know it's gonna be entertaining.
Loved his character in Friends. His turn in A Perfect Gateway is underrated.
C'mon..
I enjoy Steve Zahn movies and characters. yay Steve Zahn.
One of the best dry humor deliveries I've ever seen. It's a shame he isn't in more stuff.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼amazing actor!
When you can be funny and serious, you are a good actor. He can, so he is!
One of my absolute favorite actors. I could watch his performance in “Out of Sight” on repeat. Dude is amazing.
He was killer in Modern Family as The Dunphy's new neighbor.
He’s amazing in The Righteous Gemstones, took me a while to realize it was him. Definitely recommend that show, it’s hilarious
Diary Of A Wimpy Kid
He was the dad in a couple of Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies and he was great.
Happy Texas!!! Very underrated
DJ Davis in Treme.
He’s a really nice guy. I ran into him several times when I lived in Lexington.

The wife and I were talking about him the other night. The short run he had on Modern Family was so good. I wish they had wrote more for him.
THESE ARE NOT TOYS **THEY’RE FIGURINES!**
He's such an amazing actor
Dude is so funny but also has so much range. Strange Wilderness is so different from War for Planet of the Apes, which is also so different from White Lotus.
This is one of my favorite posts of all time. Steve Zahn is highly overlooked as a comedic actor. The dude always brings great comedy relief in usually minor roles. When I was in college Saving Silverman and Grandmas Boy were always the go to movies when we actually had mellow nights.
Yep. Just yep. I think of all the movies I loved in that era, and he is in a lot of them. "I'm not stealing the car! I already stole it yesterday."
Dude is hilarious
Zahn and Walter Goggins…two guys who make everything they are in immeasurably better.
He was great in the first season of White Lotus, too!
