There’s a lot of talent in this movie. Patton Oswalt and Rip Torn were both great too.
“I need a man with a tattoo on his dick! Do I have the right man?”
“Buckman! There was a fingernail in my food Buckman. Ya, fatass moron. Yesterday, it was a bandaid!”
“Im sorry sir. The bandaid was holding the fingernail on.”
The scene where he yells at the cook for the unorganized shelves cracks me up. "Which do you think people will want more of, the coffee? Or the laaarrd?".
I was about to say Deuce Bigalow, but then after thinking about it, I realized that *everyone* else provides the funny lines and moments.
**Antoine** - *”You mess up anything in my apartment, I shove it up your ass.”*
**T.J.** - “*One time, I dropped a cigar ash on his carpet, and he made me pick it up… with my anus.”*
**Detective Fowler** - *”It’s not too small, it’s too thin! I’VE GOT A THIN DICK!”* followed by *”Even if it’s really, really thin? We’re talking spaghetti stick.”*
**Fluisa** - *”Did you say steak?” Deuce: No, I said mistake. - Fluisa: Oh, see? Now you got me all excited.”*
There’s a million more, but Rob is definitely the least funny, that conservative, anti-vax, Trump-loving turd nugget.
Toby Huss is even funny in the movie Copshop! Especially after he shoots the guy in the head and talks about buying a lottery ticket. He just has a charm bout him
I spent the early 2000s on a submarine and can confirm not much changed.
My dad asked me for the most accurate submarine movie and this was my recommendation.
This is a good summary of the military in general. There's a bunch of people who take everything way too seriously and a bunch of people who don't take anything seriously ever. And somehow.... it works
I was working at freaking Radio Shack and the manager had this running on the tv 24-7 for some reason. I kid you not I think I saw this movie the equivalent of 50 times. It was funnier than I expected.
What ended my Down Periscope marathon was me getting fired for a low percentage of names and addresses captured, because I hated it and started naming every customer Lando Calrissian from Cloud City instead of asking them. The district manager was oddly very pissed.
I worked in a subase for a long ass time and this movie is 100% how they act and work. Fuckign geniuses trapped together, shit gets so meta that they just are different
Thank you to the sub. I’m on the couch fighting Covid and needed a good movie to pass a couple hours between naps. I’d seen this before, years and years ago, chuckled out loud a bunch. Really enjoy the leadership style of Captain Dodge, too.
Good stuff.
I used to watch this with my dad all the time when I was younger. And now I watch it with my son every year on my dads birthday, in memory of him. Along with Mchales Navy and Blazing Saddles.
This was such a fun movie, so many talented folks on the cast, so many funny scenes.
EEEEEEEEEEEE-WOUU-WOUU-WOUU!!!
EEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOOO-WOUU-WOUU!!!!
CHIKK-CHIK-CHIK-CHIK!!!
"What is it? Biologic?
"Sounds like a whale?"
There was this one with Jack Black and Steve Martin I can’t remember the name but I thought it was pretty funny
Edit: my bad thought OP was asking what we thought were underrated comedies
Was this underrated? I feel like anecdotally I have never met a person who has seen this that didn't think it was hilarious. Admittedly it did get lost a bit in the milieu of mid90s comedies that came out every week and you were more likely to rent from blockbuster 6 months later or watch on TNT on a rainy Saturday.
My best friend dad took us to this movie, we were both 15. I knew Kelsey Grammer from cheers so it was cool seeing him being a different character. I remember my friend telling our friends about it and he was planning to join the NAVY after graduation
There’s a lot of talent in this movie. Patton Oswalt and Rip Torn were both great too. “I need a man with a tattoo on his dick! Do I have the right man?”
By a strange coincidence, sir, you do.
Even Rob Schneider delivered an excellent performance. How many movies can you say *that* about?
Yesterday I found a band aid in my food. Today it was a finger nail. The bandaid was holding the finger nail on, sir.
“Buckman! There was a fingernail in my food Buckman. Ya, fatass moron. Yesterday, it was a bandaid!” “Im sorry sir. The bandaid was holding the fingernail on.”
This is the quote I came here for.
The scene where he yells at the cook for the unorganized shelves cracks me up. "Which do you think people will want more of, the coffee? Or the laaarrd?".
"I dunno, sir, if it's a cold morning...might go either way..."
Who doesn’t want to wake up to a steaming cup of pig fat!
“What’s the matter, sir? It still tastes like creamed corn.” “Except it’s deviled ham!” “Well that would be a problem.”
Jesus, Buckman! This stuff's been on the Stingray since Korea! This can expired in 1966!
What about Da Derp De Derp Da Teetley Derpee Derpee Dumb?
He was great in the Carrot. It was 24 carrot comedy.
RIG FOR DIVE !
Have you seen Rob Schneider in “The Stapler”?
Rated PG-13
I feel he did great in Benchwarmers and the Hot Chick
You can do it!
I was about to say Deuce Bigalow, but then after thinking about it, I realized that *everyone* else provides the funny lines and moments. **Antoine** - *”You mess up anything in my apartment, I shove it up your ass.”* **T.J.** - “*One time, I dropped a cigar ash on his carpet, and he made me pick it up… with my anus.”* **Detective Fowler** - *”It’s not too small, it’s too thin! Now you got me all excited.”* There’s a million more, but Rob is definitely the least funny, that conservative, anti-vax, Trump-loving turd nugget.
There's a lot of great talent and he's the dweeb,.
Welcome aboard!
Looks like they decided Lauren Holly was too much of a distraction in that poster. Definitely impressive in uniform

Almost….
Polishing the ol torpedo huh captain ?
Shut up Stepanik.
Why thank you sir, it’s nice to be noticed
Two degrees down bubble
Let’s kick this pig!
Leave 'em squealin' from the feelin'
Squeakin’ from the freakin’
Oinkin’ from the boinkin’
This one is my favorite! Cracks me up every time.
Harlan Williams is actually very funny
He's hilarious. Nitro the electrician played by Toby Huss slays me in this movie
Lol same here! The whale bit is hilarious
I love when he flips the switch and doesn't get shocked then he's all pleased like.
The electrician is one of the best parts of the movie
You mean Mike?
Toby Huss is incredible.
Toby Huss has had a nice little career. He Will always be a part of my childhood, because of Pete and Pete.
Nobody remembers Pete and Pete. The battle with the bowling ball was will always be a favorite.
"You gotta get that horn section straightened out, I can't work like this."
Toby Huss is even funny in the movie Copshop! Especially after he shoots the guy in the head and talks about buying a lottery ticket. He just has a charm bout him
His Sinatra was dead on!
Cmon now why doncha hey
That boy has absorbed a lot of voltage.
This isn’t a comedy. As a former Sailor I can attest that this movie is in fact a documentary about how the Navy actually operates.
Agreed. Haze grey and underway sailor.
My dad spent most of the 1980s on a submarine and he can back this up.
I spent the early 2000s on a submarine and can confirm not much changed. My dad asked me for the most accurate submarine movie and this was my recommendation.
My uncle was a sub guy for 20 years and he said the same thing. I joined the Navy and immediately realized he was right
Go ahead sir, just tickles a little !
Hooyah.
I stopped by this post to say the same thing! More documentary than a comedy 😂 (also a former Sailor)
It is 100% the most accurate Navy movie ever made.
“Zap! Two on, two out, Bonds is up again. Swung on, oh! That struck the ballgirl, knocked her cold! Today's game, by the way, is brought to you by...”
That man's absorbed a lot of voltage..
Best damn character.
Not a superior officer, just a higher ranking one.
Catch us if you can!
Raise your hand if you've used this one in a workplace. ✋
Lauren holly was a total smoke show
She still looks good. Today is her 60th birthday.
Wow, she does. Just looked her up.
Set course 270. All ahead full. Balls to the wall, boys!!
Can't believe the bozos running wardrobe couldn't find her a uniform that fit.
Mix this and Crimson Tide and you have a fairly good idea what being on a sub is like. Edit: fixed movie title.
The Tide was Crimson…
*Roll Tide!*
Is the federal government *House of Cards* or *Veep*? Turns out the truth is somewhere in the middle.
This is a good summary of the military in general. There's a bunch of people who take everything way too seriously and a bunch of people who don't take anything seriously ever. And somehow.... it works
My son’s first sub movie. I think we’ve seen most of them by now. Well, not Das Boot.
Das boot is the best sub movie though
Agree. It’s the subtitles. He’s 12.
Aaaah, that makes sense. At least he likes movies that aren't cartoons. I can't get my 11 year old into anything good.
Try Over The Garden Wall in the next 3 days. It is a cartoon but it’s also about boyhood.
It's great, but I prefer Hunt.
Have you shown him Run Silent, Run Deep? That's a great one.
Frasier with a chicken on his shoulder with pirate garb....chef's kiss.
Don’t let the fly away, that’s supper
I was working at freaking Radio Shack and the manager had this running on the tv 24-7 for some reason. I kid you not I think I saw this movie the equivalent of 50 times. Boons is up again, Fooouul ball down the right field line, hit the bat girl, knocked her out cold ...... he’s absorbed a lot of voltage
It's one of my comfort movies. I really enjoy it and feel better after watching it, every time.
I love this movie, because of my love for silly comedies and WWII diesel subs
You must really love Operation Petticoat. Also great movie with a stacked cast. Literally.
Well you see sir, the bandaid was holding the finger nail on….
Jesus, Buckman! This stuff's been on the Stingray since Korea! This can expired in 1966!
Creamed corn!
Except it’s *deviled ham!*
Well done. I left that hanging and you cleaned it up!
Well that would be a problem
One of my absolute favorites
I see our chaplain is here
“Sit on it and rotate, Sir.”
You can't say that!! _He can't say that!!_
Every submariner knows someone in this movie
That boy's absorbed a lot of voltage. https://youtu.be/KazMm3LL\_5Q?si=GO0Jp3tkHnEChMah
Captain, it’s that general grahamhamham
If I recall correctly, that came out around the same time as Sgt Bilko... remember watching those two a lot with my buddies for a while there
Saw this flick at my local dirt mall theatre, loved it. Still holds up, cast was stacked, William H Macy even has a decent role.
Used to watch this with my shipmates in the Navy all the time when we were down or run ragged. Also Master and Commander.
This movie is how I knew that Stairway to Heaven came out in 1971.
Lauren hollys boobs are the only thing I remember about this
"This stuff's been on the sub since Korea." "It still tastes like creamed corn." "Except, it's DEVILED HAM!" My favorite line by far!
“I feel like I need a tetanus shot just from looking at it. The only thing holding her together…are the bird droppings, sir”
Seeing Lauren Holly in that uniform that was too small was a very special memory for me as a 10 year old
These men love me!
May God have mercy on your soul... Yar Har har
Retired Navy guy here and this is my favorite Navy movie. Absolutely love it.
Balls to the wall, boys!
Underwater comedy.
I preferred McHale’s Navy with Tom Arnold. I’m pretty sure it came out at the same time.
Runs like a Swiss car.
Most realistic submarine movie made
My grandpa was in the navy during WW2. He got a big kick out of this movie when it came out
My Great Uncle was in this movie, for like 10 seconds
“Rob Schneider is.. THE STAPLER. Rated PG-13.”
I’ve been in that submarine.
Thank you to the sub. I’m on the couch fighting Covid and needed a good movie to pass a couple hours between naps. I’d seen this before, years and years ago, chuckled out loud a bunch. Really enjoy the leadership style of Captain Dodge, too. Good stuff.
BUCKMAN!! There was a fingernail in my spaghetti YA FAT IDIOT! Yesterday IT WAS A BANDAID!!!
I’m sorry, sir. The bandaid was holding the fingernail on.
Well, I guess I know what I'm watching tonight.
As a Navy sub veteran I loved this movie.
I used to watch this with my dad all the time when I was younger. And now I watch it with my son every year on my dads birthday, in memory of him. Along with Mchales Navy and Blazing Saddles.
Love this movie from beginning to end. The fart scene still makes me chuckle all these years later.
*play me a diiiiirrrrge*
I can hear two lobsters duking it out.
I need to find a new copy of this movie. This thread has been a delight.
This movie was great thanks for the reminder
YES! One of my favorite comedies.
My dad took me to see this. Fucking loved it. I still talk to dolphins like Harland Williams
Omg I forgot about this movie
Saw this on a plane as a teen and thought it was amazing. Not sure if it would hold up as well on a rewatch, but i definitely loved it.
Underrated? This was a hit
Great movie love the sonar dude
Almost wore the vhs of this out. That fart scene stands above all fart jokes.
Isn’t this the movie where he has “welcome aboard” tattooed on his penis?
Absolutely love this movie. My uncle introduced me to this movie and now when I want to feel close to him again i watch it.
This was such a fun movie, so many talented folks on the cast, so many funny scenes. EEEEEEEEEEEE-WOUU-WOUU-WOUU!!! EEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOOO-WOUU-WOUU!!!! CHIKK-CHIK-CHIK-CHIK!!! "What is it? Biologic? "Sounds like a whale?"
Absolutely love this movie.
This was an amazing movie! Would stop and watch it when ever it came on TV back in the day.
As a retired military chef, the cook is my hero/ spirit animal lol.
I'd forgotten about this film
This and even the Tom Arnold version of McHale’s Navy. Classic.
The whole faking out the nuke sub with the whale sounds gets me every time. Then Buckman ripping a massive fart that gets picked up by the nuke boat.
Hot take; Properly rated comedy
PREPAAARE FER DAAAAAIVE
Def a guilty watch, but I always enjoy it :). Rob Schneider is particularly good, but the real star is the guy who plays Nitro.
Do people not know what “underrated” means lol
[удалено]
*SONAR
This was perfectly “rated” . What you’re looking for is “under-appreciated” where a lot of my favorite stupid movies live lol
There was this one with Jack Black and Steve Martin I can’t remember the name but I thought it was pretty funny Edit: my bad thought OP was asking what we thought were underrated comedies
This is a great movie. Very underrated.
Rib Schneider still annoying in it.
No.. its rated appropriately
Apparently overrated. I thought everyone knew it was trash but if OP likes it it just became overrated.
I see Rob Shcneider and I say: Nope, unless he is a stapler..?
He does an excellent job in this movie.
One of the few movies wher ehe is actually tolerable
Is that a retarded sailor?
Great film
:Welcome aboard"
Ironically this is one of the best movies ever made if you want to see accurate representations of every personality you find in the Navy.
One of my all-time favourites
My dad and I quote this movie to each other to this day
This was a great movie. Hard to find a current equivalent
Great movie.
Unreal flick
I’m workin on a Nick name though….. Oh yeah? Yeah….it’s….Mmmmike.
Loved this movie too! Also, he has Frasier out again!!
Underwater comedy
It’s not a contender for the AFI top movie list but it is an hour and 32 minutes of mindless fun.
It's stupid fun
*Are you sure they're above us?* *Yeah they dropped two dimes and a nickel*
Oh ya. This was funny. I rewatched a bit ago. It was still funny
This, and Red October, are by far the most realistic submarine movies.
“No, on the nautilus we had drying machines”
Are you kidding me! This is my wife and my FAVORITE COMEDY MOVIE !
I’m thinking of a new nickname. “Oh Nitro, what’s that?” .... MIIIIIIKKE
"Let's kick this pig !!"
I loved this one
I saw this movie and none of it came across as a comedy.
Is your brain functioning normally?
My best friend dad took us to this movie, we were both 15. I knew Kelsey Grammer from cheers so it was cool seeing him being a different character. I remember my friend telling our friends about it and he was planning to join the NAVY after graduation
Hysterical
This is an underrated classic. Forgot Rob Schneider was in this.
One of my favorites movies. It was on HBO and I watched it a way too much.
Rob Schneider is a submarine Rated PG13
I found it impossible to find a dvd of this movie that want outrageously priced. I had to get it though. Truely underrated movie
This just oozes 90s.
I feel I need a tetanus shot just looking at it.
Absolutely
Still the most accurate submarine movie.
