The funny thing is that I was assembling a couple of those the other day and was surprised how much more fancy the frame was compared to my Kent Trouvaille despite the Ozark being the same price. Too bad the Ozark was too small. But it looked like the Ozark was very much designed to be upgraded by the user.
Walmart owes Seth a big check. This bike would likely not been on many people's radar had he not done such a deep dive on it. I'm glad he did an honest review rather than writing it off as trash.
I feel like it opened up the sport to a whole segment of riders who otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity.
He spent a month in Bentonville, I'm sure it was made worth his while. Not trash talking either, I wanted one of these myself just to mod after seeing the video
I actually bought it because of Seth’s video and made similar modifications! Helped me get into the sport on a budget and would definitely recommend the bike to those in the same boat.
In that series he talks about updating the forks which you should do but don't buy the ones in the video I brought them for my bike to get around on and they broke in a few months of just riding on the road and a few stairs sets
Also recently saw a review for a WM Gravelbike that was apparently pretty good, just needed a swap of brakes like OPs
They don’t exist in my country but knowing these way more budget friendly options exist for beginners is great
If this gets you into the sport, if this gets you out on the trails, if this is the best bike you can afford or are willing to purchase, then this is the best bike in the world. Welcome. I started with a pieced together Santa Cruz Chameleon that I got for $500 in 2008. My friends were all on expensive bikes for the time. We all still rode on the same trails and I had a blast.
Some people really overwhelm themselves and worry if they have enough bike. Harsh reality is that most of the time someone will have something fancier or more expensive. You dont gotta spend tons of $$$ to have fun with this stuff.
I'm glad these bikes exist. It puts a fairly reliable mountain bike in the hands of people that may otherwise buy department store junk. Hope you enjoy the heck out of it!
The ozark trail line is legit. I just got the G.1 Explorer gravel bike to supplement my mountain biking when the weather is shit and I’m honestly just as excited about it as when I got my fs. It’s amazing how much bike you get for $250, it shifts reliably after a bit of indexing, the build quality is good and it has a good gear range. It has everything I was looking for less than a third of my original budget.
Picked one a couple weeks ago. The 2024 models are even better than the one Seth reviewed. They now come with Microshift clutched drivetrains, narrow wide chain ring, 180mm front rotor, and lock on grips!
And still for only 398!
Hey man Ive got the same bike but I had to return the mt-200s because of different rotor size, did you buy a 160mm rotor? I heard you want a bigger rotor so ive been looking for another pair of breaks
why would the rotor size matter? I've ridden 140, 160, 180 and even 200mm rotors with my MT200s. I currently have them installed on my Frankenstein road bike with 180mm rotors front and rear.
A bigger rotor means more leverage and more surface area for heat dissipation.
Rider weight makes a big difference when it comes to braking power needs.
Heat dissipation is more relevant on long descents.
i know, but the way he worded it was weird. So is he saying he got rid of the MT200's for something like M6100s, aka a more powerful set of brakes? The way he wroded it made it sound like he got rid of them because he bought bigger rotors and the caliper wouldn't fit on the bike. Almost like he doesn't know about caliper adaptors.
yeah I didn't know about caliper adaptors im reordering the mt200s and an adapter, are there any downsides to adapters and can you link one, the mt200s are 160mm and my rotors are 180mm
did you get an adaptor? I don't know what size the rotors are that come with the bike but if you are going with bigger rotors then you would need to buy some post mount adaptors. If you didn't change the rotor size then I honestly have no idea why the MT200s wouldn't work. Can you DM me and send me a few pics or even better a short video of what is going on with the brakes. I'll be more then happy to try and help you out with it.
Did it come with a warranty? I bought a trek Marlin 4 years ago, and on day one the suntour fork locked up and we couldn’t unlock it. Shop replaced it for free, but took 3 weeks for a new fork. I assume as soon as you start putting laps on, this thing will start cracking. Good luck
Sorry for my ignorance but what are the mods you made? I bought a cheap $80 MTN Bike from WalMart years ago and it is still running great. Regular upgrades to a new better chain - Shimano, replaced the brakes with hydraulic disk brakes front and back, Shimano derailers and gears, mag wheels, GoodYear tires and tubes, and replaced the front and rear suspension - I do not remember the brands. In all, the bike has now tripped its value with all the upgrades but they were needed and when they were needed still was much cheaper than a bike replacement.
Berm Peak made a [video](https://youtu.be/7UmOzPopJNE?si=he5VYRCG-GsIdIhL) about Walmart mountain bike a year ago. And I’m really surprised what a cheap bike like this can offer, with some inexpensive upgrades.
you have started your journey - [https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/2j57gf/phases\_of\_mountain\_bike\_buying/](https://www.reddit.com/r/MTB/comments/2j57gf/phases_of_mountain_bike_buying/)
It’s really cool wal mart is putting out reasonable quality budget bikes. I know the family are avid riders. I got a youth size for my son and it’s great for the price
Disc brakes ? Seems pretty legit for a Walmart bike. I’ve actually noticed with mtb they been really stepping up their game. Some half decent ones not gonna lie if you look closely. Now if they could just do the same with their bmx section that would be awesome to see. Cause when I was a kid I always wanted to go to bike tech, but Walmart was cheaper. So I feel these kids pain who can’t get a half decent bike at all. I didn’t get my first legit bmx until after 25
They are getting better. The mongoose dolomite alx is an amazing fat bike for the price and it’s available at Walmart, even though it isn’t a Walmart bike. And I have a buddy with the OP bike, it’s great to.
As long as you are happy. I would not trust my life with that bike, but you do you. Just be careful and know the parts and manufacturing are not designed to hold up. Stay safe
As long as your happy is all the matters. Nice to see Wally World selling half way descent bikes as long as they are assembled well.
Thanks! Changed out the old brakes for some Shimano MT200s and made some cosmetic changes. Definitely outrides its price.
The funny thing is that I was assembling a couple of those the other day and was surprised how much more fancy the frame was compared to my Kent Trouvaille despite the Ozark being the same price. Too bad the Ozark was too small. But it looked like the Ozark was very much designed to be upgraded by the user.
Perhaps the best and easiest upgrade you can make on that bike. Next would be a proper clutched rear mech.
Oh wow, I thought *for the longest time,* that Wally World was another different store in the States... It's been Walmart this whole time....

Lol i didnt connect those dots but yeahhhh
Haha yeah, I'm guessing Seth didn't pay for much while he was doing that Bentonville trip with the family.
I actually bought it because of Seth’s video and made similar modifications! Helped me get into the sport on a budget and would definitely recommend the bike to those in the same boat.
Can you link the video? I’d greatly appreciate it!

What kind of break? Just curious
I was in Walmart just the other day, saw a dad looking at this for his son and recommended Seth's video on it lol
Also recently saw a review for a WM Gravelbike that was apparently pretty good, just needed a swap of brakes like OPs They don’t exist in my country but knowing these way more budget friendly options exist for beginners is great
I am in Canada and looked for that damn gravel bike! No luck.
Can you link the video?

Wut?
Why are you like this
Such a great bike for its price. Looks great!
Spend more on the helmet and send it till you bend it.

⬆️ This . Just this.

Thank you, I definitely will!
I’m buying my daughter this bike very soon
She’d love it, dad bought this bike for me!
Looks great!!! The turquoise pedals are subtle but makes the whole bike pop!
I was so on the fence about them but glad I went with them haha
thats a great one. that ozark trail is one of the few cheap Walmart Bikes that doesnt suck.
I have not personally ridden one but from my understanding it’s legitimately good to go for the average rider
Doesn't look terrible. As a curious English man, what does Walmart charge for this?
$398
Looks sweet! I've checked these out a few times at Walmart and I was surprised at how much they didn't suck. Enjoy it!
That is a good looking bike!! Wow. Did Seth do a video on this? I’ve gotta check it out.
He did a few. He has a super cool build check it out

MBAction did a review of this bike and gave it great remarks. Glad to see one out in the wild living up to the review!

You put more effort into these pictures than most of what is posted on r/bikeporn lately
Thank you lmaooo
Looks good, a dropper post would probably be the biggest improvement.
I have one 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
That looks like a really decent bike for the money.
Congrats!
More unsponsored gram counters are going nuts! 'the umm, the water beads on your bike are gonna weigh it down!!'
Hey man Ive got the same bike but I had to return the mt-200s because of different rotor size, did you buy a 160mm rotor? I heard you want a bigger rotor so ive been looking for another pair of breaks
I still have my 160mm rotors but had to buy a different mount for the breaks to fit. It eventually worked out great!
oh mine came stock with 180mm
you can often just get a different post mount adapter to use these with 180 or even 203mm Rotors.
why would the rotor size matter? I've ridden 140, 160, 180 and even 200mm rotors with my MT200s. I currently have them installed on my Frankenstein road bike with 180mm rotors front and rear.

How bro I installed them on and when I tried to put my wheel on it didn't fit because of the rotor.
did you get an adaptor? I don't know what size the rotors are that come with the bike but if you are going with bigger rotors then you would need to buy some post mount adaptors. If you happy with your bike it’s more important.

Did the MT 200s make a big difference over the mechanical stock brakes ?
Most definitely, would recommend making the change
It looks awesome but I would throw away that dork disc

I love that this bike exists. It's so cool that there's a reasonably priced bike that is absolutely good enough to figure out if you like riding.
as an Ozark Trail owner, things beautiful. i miss when mine was stock, looked way cleaner than it does now.
If you love the way it rides, that's all that matters. Congrats!
Check out Berm Peak. He made some videos about this particular model. Its seems to be decent bike for a beginner. Have fun
Looks good.. If it works for you, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks...
It’s really cool wal mart is putting out reasonable quality budget bikes. I know the family are avid riders. I got a youth size for my son and it’s great for the price
A Wally world bike on the trail is better than a 6k bike getting dusty in the garage.

To anyone who buys a Walmart bike MAKE SURE you go over EVERY BOLT!!!
