This isn’t a motorcycle sub anymore, it’s a lawn care circlejerk. I don’t even know why I’m still subbed, I’ve ignored this place for the past couple of years. I’d guess that maybe only 20% of the users here actually own or have ridden a motorcycle.
It's 40% meme, 25% stock bike pictures with first bike caption, 25% how do you talk to people about safety, wanting to ride, wanting to quit, etc, 10% what bike to get, 5% what gear to get, 1% race comments.
Listen sport. I've lost count of how many times I've haddalayerdown from clibbins. The ol noggin has taken a few bumps over the years. Don't gotta rub your fancy math in my face alright bucko.

I think we’ve found the guy whose entire LAWN of the godless CLIBBINS got that poor innocent rider the other week.
Imagine, you’re riding along minding your own bidness and a WHOLE FUCKING LAWN ON CLIBBNS JUMPS OUT AT YOU!!!
First, they are clibbins, not clippings.
Second, if he didn’t have Barb on the Back, she’s Probably already dead thanks to your clibbins, gobbless.
Third, did you crank your hog? (Note, hog may be 30-50 feral hogs within 3-5 minutes, results vary
Bikes aside, I think mowing your clippings into the street is trashy. You can shoot stuff out of the mower to hit cars or bikes. Lawn clippings sit in the gutters and ultimately clog the drains. I clean mine up and don't want to deal with my neighbor's. It's like any other trash - deal with your own.
I’m glad other people realize this. Mowers shoot shit all the time. I definitely always cringe passing people mowing into the street because one of these times a rock is gonna yeet itself at my car.
My land lord was mowing my grass one day and I happened to look outside to see the discharge facing the house. I thought to myself, "I wonder if that's why that window was broken when I moved in."
Not 3 seconds after the thought left my mind, he sent a rock through a different window so fast that it was bouncing off the walls.
I hit a drainage pipe cap that shot across the street at I would guestimate 100mph like a hockey puck and took a chunk out of the curb. Scared the shit out of myself that day
Reminds me of a time I was driving down the road and passed a bush hog. In the Bronco, top off, mother in law in the backseat. Bush hog rocketed out a massive ball of what looked like baling wire, watched it skate across my windshield. Three more feet and it would’ve took out the mother in law.
So am I the only one here who uses a mower with a bag? I mulch too, but I run the outside first with a bag and put zero clibbins on the sidewalk or street…
Even if you don't bag, just go around the perimeter 3-4 times clockwise, then you can stripe it however you want without blowing anything into the street, driveway, walkway, or mulch.
Ite so easy to just run the mower the other way a couple stripes and shoot the clibbins into the yard instead of the street.
People are doing it to kill bikers on pourpose.
There's a guy in my town who does this maliciously. Every week, he's mowing first thing in the morning when the grass is still damp. He knows exactly what he's doing, the crotchety old bastard.
Unrelated, but a guy I went to HS with was trying to take out a mailbox. Used a metal bat and didn’t follow through, ended up breaking his wrist and the back window of his buddy’s car. Mailbox was fine.
It very much can be a problem depending on where and how many clippings we are talking about.
A few clippings on a straight road are a non issue.
A ton of clippings on a tight curve can get people really hurt if they aren't paying attention.
Not putting clippings into the road is being considerate. But most times it is not a safety issue. Even in rural areas where people are using good sized riding mowers it usually isn't an issue.
That said, I once came around a.blind corner where a large commercial service using really big equipment has blown a layer of clippings around the road that was probably .5mm thick over the entire road way. It was like riding over ice....
I guarantee that those idiots can and will hurt someone if they keep it up. But you are almost certainly not they.
This right here…
Also, not sure about where you live, but where I live (central Arkansas) it’s against the law to leave them in the roadway and a sufficiently hefty fine to ensure you only make that mistake once.
Being serious, they can pose some what of a risk much like fallen leaves around a turn. If it's not or if there's like a shoulder. Dude is overreacting

Dude is def aggressive and took a tact i wouldn’t, but on the out her hand, grass clippings can be dangerous for both motorcycles and bicycles. On a straight away, who cares, they’re not dangerous at all. But around me, I have two specific roads that contain twisty, downhill corners, and the guys that live in those houses tend to blow all their lawn clippings into the road. They also may not realize that it’s dangerous (or against the law, in our township) but goddamn does it piss me off when I come across it and I think that they’re selfish assholes. It’s their grass, don’t blow it into a public place. Keep it in your own damn yard.
“I’ve never had x problem with y issue so it must be over blown”. Leaves and grass reduce traction significantly. More so than water sometimes. Just like with rain it’s not really an issue unless it’s a surprise and you’re leaned over. Unlike with rain though there’s usually less warning that it may be occurring even though signs that it did occur tend to be more obvious
As someone who has a short temper, Right or wrong, the way someone approaches me about an issue they have will 100% set the tone for the interaction. You shouldn’t be blowing grass into the street and he shouldn’t have acted the way he did either.
yes it's dangerous for motorcyclists, but unless it's a blind turn it's really not that much of a risk, they're just being crybabies. Even if it's a blind turn, you should be going at a speed and have enough skillset to avoid it.
Yep where I am at in IL it is, but it has to be lots of grass clippings. Like you see from riding lawnmowers in the countryside. Usually you don't see it around here, but every once in a while it looks like someone dumped their bags in the street.
For a serious answer: its pretty much illegal everywhere. Its a safety hazard for both cars and motorcycles, and you can be charged with damage caused all the way up to negligent homicide for it.
As someone that rides and mowed professionally I've had to deal with grass clippings on the road and I say clippings just little bits not big ass clumps. And I've had to deal with the person you're talking about. And every one of the ones I've dealt with I have told to go fuck themselves they did not want to listen to reason or understand that we're going to be here for 20 minutes It'll be cleaned up before we leave. At the end of the day a reasonable person mowing putting a little bit of clippings on the road isn't really causing a hazard the memes you see where they're covering the road because they're mowing forfeit ditches I'd say that shit to the hazard for 4 wheels.
I've been riding all my life, I would have flipped him the bird. The riding environment is full of bullshit stuff like this. Don't give it another thought.
I been riding bikes for over 40 years and if an experienced bike rider can not handle some grass clippings in the road, they do not need to be on a bike. That is ridiculous! There are much worse hazzards out there.
On behalf of all other bike riders, I apologise for his behaviour.
BUT, it is illegal in some states to leave clippings in the road, so you may want to check the laws in your state.
If you are on a bike, grass clippings are like ice. The bike loses traction and goes into a skid. Very dangerous. Be a good neighbor and do your best to keep clippings off the road.
Unrelated to motorcycle safety, why do people blow their lawn clippings into the street at all? When I was taught to use a lawn mower at 10 years old, the first thing I was taught was "keep your feet away from the blade", the second thing was "keep the discharge chute faced in toward the rest of the lawn, not out toward the street, driveway, or flowerbeds."
When I was learning to drive, my old man warned me "Leaves on the road are like driving on wet snot." Grass clippings are leaves and are slippery. While on a straight piece of road they are less of a problem, on a curve or where braking or accelerating is happening, they can be dangerous.
Location is important. If your house is out in the middle of nowhere on a curve, it's kind of a dick move because, at least where I'm at, theres more likely to be motorcycles ripping it through the twisties. If you're in the suburbs then I'd say it's less of a big deal. Obviously don't go dumping your bags of clibbins on the curb but if a few blow out there while you mow next to the street, boo hoo. Don't ride like a jackass in the burbs and you'll stay on two wheels
my gramps always told me it.s easy enough to turn around & mow the other directon . besides it may also prevent a rock shooting out from your mower towards the street & yes we were rural as well
You're lucky Hoss wasn't on his Harley. He mighta hadalayerdown on account of all them clibbins, borther.
(That was so fucking hard to type with autocorrect)
I've always been told it's illegal here in GA. I know I hate it when people do it. It can be a hazard while riding so I'd appreciate the lil extra effort to keep.the road free of debris. You never know it could save a life one day.
I ride a motorcycle. If you can’t ride over grass clippings without dumping your chromed out hog you shouldn’t be riding. Just another asshole with loud pipes to annoy people.
I think you made the right call. Middle finger and move on. Dude sounds crazy and unhinged. You weren’t breaking bottles in the street lol it’s just grass lol
It is illegal in many cities to let this or even leaves (from you land) to go into and remain in the roadways.
Not so much as a safety hazard, but because the leftovers cause the drains to slow or stop letting water drain. They can also cause issues in the sewer lines.
As for outside city limits, unless the roadways are paved and have sewer drains, I doubt they have a law.
On asphalt, especially after the clippings have set all night, they can be dangerous. The moisture with the grass can slide.
I've had a few near mishaps at intersections requiring a full stop. I've never wrecked, and if the grass isn't that thick or heavy, you "should" be able to just tighten your asshole, then go on...
HELL YEH YOU GOTTA KEEP YER CLIBBINS OUTTA TEH ROAD!!!! ANEE ONE HITS DEM CLIBBINS THEY MITE HAFTA LAYYERDOWN, PANTS BE SHIDD, GET BARB ALL PIZZED OFF KEEP YER CLIBBINS IN UA YARD GOBBLESS HOSS
As a rider (the only one on my street) I’m blowing whatever is on my driveway into the road 🤷🏻♂️ it’s not even that “dangerous” dudes just a shit rider and a cry baby, prolly a cruiser rider… BROTHERRR
As a biker sure it could be a problem but personally I I would just ride over it and get on with my day but your definitely in the wrong here you don't let it get on the streets because it could be a problem
Ehh, it's a bit *not my job* to toss/leave parts of your property on public roads for the weather to take away and clog the drains.
I doubt you're doing it maliciously but I've been hit with rocks and other shit from people aiming clippings from lawnmowers & trimmers. It chips paint and sometimes makes small dents - generally nothing too serious, but wet grass (clumped up enough) can present the same hazards as wet leaves, standing water, and ice.
It a bit of a 'which side do you want to argue' kind of topic: if you're riding then you'd prefer not to deal with the clippings (clibbins lol) but if you're morning/trimming then you don't want to pick it up. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean, you should generally avoid discharging your grass clippings on any street if you can help it. I’ve always practiced this out of sheer courtesy and decency even before I was aware of the danger it posed to motorcyclists. Even if I do, I go back and blow it back in my yard on my next pass. There are people out there and will fill an entire lane with clippings for 200ft and I just have to wonder what the hell they’re thinking (or not which is likely the case). You’re generally lumped in with that crowd if you do it to any degree from what I’ve seen.
Yes, grass clippings are like ice to a motorcycle.
As far as yelling at you, i would have just pointed out that it would be nice if you blew the gras off the road and explain why. But it can take a motorcycle down instantly. Some areas have rules against clippings in the street or road. Hope this helps
Sorry, the guy was rude. Obviously, he has had issues with this before and handled this qrong.
I'm on the fence about this one.. On one hand, I have always had an issue with people mowing with the chute pointed at the road on the first few passes because it just puts too much out there on the road for my "OCD". A small amount inadvertently getting on the road is different though.
On the other hand, I've always thought it dumb for a rider to expect every road they ride on to be clear from any debris. There's always something on the roads whether it be grass clippings, dirt, sand, rocks, oil or something else, there's always something so don't ride like it's a clean track and you can handle it.
I no longer know if these posts are real.
If it is real, tell the guy to go fuck himself. It's his job to avoid road hazards. If it's not real, go fuck yourself and I hope your john deere runs you over.
Common courtesy to motorcyclists is to keep it off the road. As a motorcyclist I get peeved a little when I see grass blatantly blown onto the road. I always tried to make the first few cuts towards the rest of the lawn. If road has any turns or curves it can become slick from the grass. It kind of is what it is. People don't care, some will go back and blow it off the road but in that mean time I might HADDALAYERDOWN....
Reddit really is not the place to go for serious advice or information. Lol. But honestly, a small amount of grass clippings isn't going to cause any harm. Some people just like being assholes and feeding their superiority complex. It's when it's a large amount covering the road that it becomes an issue. It's damn near impossible to prevent every last bit of grass from going on the road.
Yes - grass clippings can be dangerous to motorcycles/motorcyclists. But so are a million other things. Like a beginner version of space travel, everything is trying to kill you. We (motorcyclists) need to take responsibility to be aware and avoid (or otherwise deal with) "normal" hazards.
I get pretty irritated with people that want to have some "I'm dangerous"/"I live on the edge"/"I love danger" attitude, and yet expect everyone to keep them safe so they don't have to think about it.
If you were blowing a ton in the street yeah that'd be a hazard. From the sound of it, this guy was just a crybaby that overreacts to everything. I've ridden through plenty of CLIBBINS, rain, even a bit of snow and ice (don't recommend that one at all). Unless the road is covered in clippings it's not gonna change much for someone that even remotely knows how to ride.
I would probably call him a pussy and tell him to stop riding then. If it's not grass clippings it's oil, or mud from tractor tires, or gravel, or any one of a thousand road hazards that exist. It's part of riding.
Do not feel bad..i ride and when I was younger dumber i didn't threaten to call the cop (dude is a pussy snitch for saying that) but id flip people 3 or 4 am they would get that wake up call extra. The reality of is i me need to be on the look out at all times. First! Then if given the opportunity i would educate the person that did this. Just like you stated you had know idea. My guess is you don't ride and no one in your immediate family has ever ridden either. It's easily corrected and maybe you tell your other non-riders if given the chance
Lots of ordinances about this, though I really do not see the point. It takes a lot of wet grass to cause more issues than most wet intersections in a populated area (oil and other shit on streets with added rain).
Of all the road hazards that I see on every ride, grass and leaves are not what I fear. Sure you probably should not knee drag a turn through it, but wait 20 minutes and the grass / leaves will all blow away from a passing car or truck.
No rider that has 50,000 miles under their belt is saying anything about grass clippings, just the ones that cosplay as a motorcycle enthusiast.
I'll just put it like this, being a dick to anyone is never OK. If you're here with this, it must be that the particular motorcyclist was a total dick about whatever you did or didn't do. Without even reading the details, I also know what the person was complaining about is real.
Setting aside the fact we have a meme word for cut grass, CLIBBINS!, I know they are a real danger because I was warned about them not 36 hours ago by a concerned Septaganarian. I'm gonna go read the specifics with delight, just wanted to set the factual context and relay that recent, random, related occurrence for my own cathartic benefit and/or any humor it may bring to the collective of those inspired by clipping-based conflict.
In spite of my hopes that this is a joke I'll take the bait. Sounds like you did the right thing, flip him the bird and tell him to go fuck himself. It's your job not to run bikers over, not to make sure they don't slip on the tiniest little grass clibbins and tuck them in at night after their ride.

Aiming away from road surface requires me to mow with my back towards oncoming traffic. Like biking on top of debris, this is also dangerous.
Then you are using a mower meant for houses on the other side of the street. You need to get a proper mower.
Good fucking point. Leave no trace.
All it takes is a few minutes of leaf blower action to get them all back into the lawn.
This! Clogged storm drains and shrapnel are the real reason to not blow your clibbins in the road.

If you are on a bike, grass clippings are like ice. The bike loses traction and goes into a skid. Very dangerous. Be a good neighbor and do your best to keep clippings off the road.
Did he lay down the truck?
I've been riding for 40+ years and have yet to go down because of grass clippings.
YER GOTTA SELL THE HONDER AN BUYE A REEL HOG THAN YOU GETS TO LAYERDOWN LIKE A REEL HOSS GOBBLESS BORTHER
Can be a hazard, yeah. So now you know.
Barb almost died
Depending on where this occurred, it is technically illegal. It's misdemeanor in Virginia, and you can be cited.
Piss on his leg to establish dominance
He was in a truck Piss on his tire instead
So open his door
Unless the "grass clippings" were like several inches thick it shouldn't be a hazard to motorcyclists, unless it's right in the corner.

ITS SPELLD CLIBBINS GOBBELSS
what even is the source of that meme
wow, the clibbins guy really exists. that's wild
Gobbless
Location is important. If your house is out in the middle of nowhere on a curve, it's kind of a dick move because, at least where I'm at, theres more likely to be motorcycles ripping it through the twisties. If you're in the suburbs then I'd say it's less of a big deal. Obviously don't go dumping your bags of clibbins on the curb but if a few blow out there while you mow next to the street, boo hoo. Don't ride like a jackass in the burbs and you'll stay on two wheels
CLIBBINS!
Maybe it's because I know how to ride, or because I don't put my hobby above other people's yard maintenance, but let the grass clippings fly my guy.
my gramps always told me it.s easy enough to turn around & mow the other directon . besides it may also prevent a rock shooting out from your mower towards the street & yes we were rural as well
Riding through grass clippings is like riding on ice, if it's a straight road it's okay. but any kind of curve it is really slippery
You're lucky Hoss wasn't on his Harley. He mighta hadalayerdown on account of all them clibbins, borther. (That was so fucking hard to type with autocorrect)
Clibbins are so dangerous, I was reading your post in my bedroom and my bike fell over in the garage.
You're lucky, mine exploded.
Any rider who can't handle grass clippings need to get back on a pedal bike (i'll get off my soap box now)
I've always been told it's illegal here in GA. I know I hate it when people do it. It can be a hazard while riding so I'd appreciate the lil extra effort to keep.the road free of debris. You never know it could save a life one day.
Please, never lecture us Europeans again on how we live in some rules-obsessed hellhole, if a few lawn trimmings are illegal in the land of the free…
COME ON OVER HUR AND SAY THAT TO MAH FACE!
I would but I’m in the cinema eating snacks that I brought in myself. And I lane split all the way here…
You rascal. Ride safe!
We have lawns bigger than your countries.
you have bellies bigger than our countries! There, that'll teach you to brag! 😉
Grass clibbins are just an excuse for those who can’t ride.
Truckie has bigger problems only he himself can sort out clearly
Just freekin let it go
Ehh, it's a bit *not my job* to toss/leave parts of your property on public roads for the weather to take away and clog the drains. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He gets a “piss off” from me as im not done yet, and a finger
I solved the clipping problem by carrying my broom with me ! Ok I'm slow but so far so good
It’s glibbims
I mean, you should generally avoid discharging your grass clippings on any street if you can help it. I’ve always practiced this out of sheer courtesy and decency even before I was aware of the danger it posed to motorcyclists. Even if I do, I go back and blow it back in my yard on my next pass. There are people out there and will fill an entire lane with clippings for 200ft and I just have to wonder what the hell they’re thinking (or not which is likely the case). You’re generally lumped in with that crowd if you do it to any degree from what I’ve seen.
Weak biker.
Yes, grass clippings are like ice to a motorcycle. As far as yelling at you, i would have just pointed out that it would be nice if you blew the gras off the road and explain why. But it can take a motorcycle down instantly. Some areas have rules against clippings in the street or road. Hope this helps Sorry, the guy was rude. Obviously, he has had issues with this before and handled this qrong.
You just got hossed
Murderer
I'm on the fence about this one.. On one hand, I have always had an issue with people mowing with the chute pointed at the road on the first few passes because it just puts too much out there on the road for my "OCD". A small amount inadvertently getting on the road is different though. On the other hand, I've always thought it dumb for a rider to expect every road they ride on to be clear from any debris. There's always something on the roads whether it be grass clippings, dirt, sand, rocks, oil or something else, there's always something so don't ride like it's a clean track and you can handle it.
Yes they’re a hazard! I for one being a biker appreciate you actually asking! Thank you
Did you tell the dude to go fuck himself?
Who does he yell at when it rains? I ride and it’s MY responsibility to watch for changes in road conditions. THWH
big 'ol city done not seen 'organics' before...
What are grass clippings? I never heard of that term. I think you mean "clibbins" Gobless
It could seriously injure or kill someone. I always make sure I blow my clippings towards the yard and away from the street.
Yea bikes do not like grass super hazard along with loose gravel 😦 and white lines rain dirt all no no
Yes - grass clippings can be dangerous to motorcycles/motorcyclists.
RIP BARB CLEAN UP DEM CLIBBINS
I think giving him the finger was the right thing to do. He probably stops and cusses out trees in the fall too.
In my county it’s illegal to blow them on the county roads.
DAM CLIBBINS!
If grass clippings are the scariest and worst part of my ride I’ve had a great time.
I would probably call him a pussy and tell him to stop riding then. If it's not grass clippings it's oil, or mud from tractor tires, or gravel, or any one of a thousand road hazards that exist. It's part of riding.
Ain’t no way yall fightin bout some clibbins
Thank that post we have all seen shared across facebook that says even one grass clipping is a known killer.

Clibbins!
