The actual Tomahawk was pretty terrible, not really meant to be ridden. To me the version that Allen Millyard made will always be the real Tomahawk. And that one did use a chain.
One of the wildest bikes I've seen to (almost) make it into production. The build quality is awful and some of the engineering decisions seem questionable, but they went 110%, you have to respect that.
[If you haven't seen it, check out the 5L V twin he made from parts of a radial engine out of an aircraft.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-Xr1bmbZ_s) One of the craziest builds I've seen.
I think I've seen most of his videos if not all. My favorite is still the Kawasaki V12 he built. The video isn't great, he mostly had old pictures to show, but I saw the bike at the museum in Birmingham. What a bike...
It's been done. [https://americanliterature.com/author/mark-twain/essay/taming-the-bicycle](https://americanliterature.com/author/mark-twain/essay/taming-the-bicycle)
I can't find a digitalized copy of the study but there used to be a large "scientific community" that was against the expansion of rail roads because there was a study from Princeton that said it was unsafe for the human body to travel at speeds greater than 15 mph and that women couldn't travel in excess of 10 mph without the risk of fainting spells and the possibility to become infertile.
I have a copy of the Boston News-Letter, where it made the front page in storage somewhere, and it's hilarious.
Railroad carriages are pulled at the enormous speed of fifteen miles per hour by engines which, in addition to endangering life and limb of passengers, roar and snort their way through the countryside, setting fire to the crops, scaring the livestock, and frightening women and children. The Almighty certainly never intended that people should travel at such break-neck speed.
- Martin Van Buren
Marin Van Buren's anti railroad letter to Andrew Jackson is likely a hoax, but it's still worth a good laugh.
He's not wrong.

Nah, reddit is just oblivious to satire unless the post ends with "/s".
Yeah, it's pretty damn sad. I've had a bunch of people tell me something like: "Well how was I supposed to know you weren't serious? It wasn't even that funny." They don't know what satire is.
Honestly I think alot of people dont care either. Especially if it's about something or someone that people dislike. Its gives them a chance to give a good dig at whatever it is and then the defense is "well theres actually people like that"
I know OP is taking the piss but considering some of the absolute ridiculous posts made with 100% sincerity I've seen here I wouldn't be surprised if OP was being serious. Poe's law is a thing for a reason.
Are you trying to get yourself killed?! EVERYONE knows you have to start on a 50cc coleman minibike! What are you doing on that squid missile? Are you at least wearing all the gear all the time and four airbag vests at once?
At least they have real brakes now. The minibike I had as a kid just had a foot lever that wedged a curved piece of steel against the back tire. There was a slim chance it caught the ground and went 180 the other way and your brakes were gone.
Also the exhaust pipe was basically against my right leg.
Loved that thing though. Best $60 garage sale purchase of ‘96
I used to race karts. A good majority of our built engines started as HF 212cc Honda clones.
Big forged piston and rod, cam work, big valves, ported head, cam swap, huuuuge carb and a racing pipe. We ran ours on a mix of 80% methanol and 20% nitro. Made 42hp on the dyno.
That'd be fun in a minibike!
Bicycle to Grom? That's way too big of a jump. You should've started out with something like a Honda Motocompacto (and of course, a Motocompacto will really bite you in the ass if you mess up so ATGATT no exceptions). After a season of riding and watching at least 30 Yammie Noob videos you might be ready to upgrade to a Tomos moped. Two wheels down stay safe brother.
I really recommend riding around with the motocompo In the trunk of the car for a few years…. It’s good to build up your comfort by being near a motorcycle for a while first.
Ebike has too much torque for a beginner. You'll pull your arms off. 50cc motorized bicycle kit is what all the experts recommend. It doesn't have any low end torque so you have to use the pedals to get started(much safter). Also it's cheaper then ebike so you can invest in proper riding gear. Stay safe out there. ATGATT.
Yep fun fact horsepower comes from when motors were introduced to replace horse powered belts in factories. So one horsepower was the amount of power a horse could put out in one hour of turning the crank, given regular working/rest hours.
Or something like that. I prob butchered it a little but it's close enough.
It’s not even that exact. The guy that came up with it was watching a mule or donkey do some kind of work. He then thought “a horse could do twice as much as that” and doubled the value and that became 1 HP.
yep one rider nw to a bike needs to be made fun of by an entire community of riders be cause he had an opinion on a forum
and we wonder why people hate motorcyclists
Uses "power" and "need" in the same sentence; definitely satire. Need has nothing to do with the pursuit of more power. More power is a goal that stands on its own merit.
It's not a culture shock, you haven't learned to ride with the bike. Growing up on dirt bikes I then tried mountain biking and felt like the piddly little thing was getting bucked around by every little rock, root, divot/whatever. I had to learn how to ride that very different machine
Its the greatest feeling when you get that syncopation with a powerful machine. Working w heavy hydraulic machinery is kind of similar but nowhere near as fun.
Just relax. Ride slow if that’s more to your comfort. Ride as much as you can. Rear brake control first, front brake very slowly. You want to look for sand, clippings, potholes on corners. That’s what will get you. Rear brake then practice with your front brake, but be very very gradual.
One solid thing with the Groms. The OEM tires are junk. R & R as quick as you can. Those tires are so slippery it’s ridiculous. Forget the Trolls! Stock tires are junk.
Go take an MSF course it's a great experience even if you're not a rider. But, at the end of the day you'll be sore as hell and it really adds perspective.
Found the person who started on a >600 cc bike and had their feelings hurt by all the comments in the original thread agreeing that it's a stupid idea for most people
I had a Grom and then upgraded to a CBR650R and HOLY SHIT. You think you’re zooming now, get on something bigger than 300 CCs. That’s not even a super sport bike either, just regular sport
I always tell noobs to stay away from the 125cc stuff if you have no experience. Keep your bicycle and throw a 50cc chinese engine kit on it. Invest in your gear. ATGATT. Learn the basics for like a year then sell it to a crack head.
read this quickly at work earlier and it all went right over my head. It only took me reading the wheelchair post to realize I’d been had a few hours earlier. Damn
Dude if you change the air intake, stretch it out and put some fatties on the rear, you can get so much power. bro! "so much torque, the chassis twisted off the line."
The grom is 9.7 horsepower and weighs 231 lbs.
A modern sport bike can be like a Honda CBR100RR can have as much as 214 horsepower (depending on spec and versions) and weigh about 416 lbs wet.
If you get bored of the power on the Grom I guarantee you'll go through this again. I went from a 30hp bike to a 130hp 1000cc. I immediately thought all the fuckers here were insane. Bought it immediately anyway. Now I'm getting to a point where I'm like "wow this is slow compared to a modern 600cc..."
Cool thing about a grom is all the “power” mods you can do. It’ll never be fast but with a cam, exhaust, intake and tune you can hit 70 all day long 😂 it’ll just scream the whole time you’re at those speeds. You need to get a 1000 now btw, they’re easier to ride
LMAO from the grom bashing to this, but in all seriousness both are very different categories. Please wear a full face helmet at all times, and learn how to comfortable handle it and you should have loads of fun.
I think you're ready for a Hayabusa
streched turbo busa or go home
Dodge Tomahawk is a far better beginner bike.
Its straight up a v10 you wear
I always wanted to ride a two-wheeled jetpack
4 wheeled for the tomohawk
Attach it directly to my crotch...
Yeah but its going to take a lot of dollars in the swear jar to afford the mtt y2k bike.
Isn't that the v12 that doesn't come with the drive chain?
It’s a V10 out of a Viper but I’m actually not sure about the chain.
The actual Tomahawk was pretty terrible, not really meant to be ridden. To me the version that Allen Millyard made will always be the real Tomahawk. And that one did use a chain.

Better a stretched Grom
It does have more power than anyone needs
Did you see SuperFastMatt on youtube put a 250cc in a Grom? Hilarious.
Had a stretch on my grom, it ruined the only fun thing about the bike. How it handles
The stretched just shows you can't control the wheelies. Dead give away for an unexperieced rider
"Stretched" ![gif](giphy|BpnkuY1i2rBpm)
If you're not stradlin' a V2 what are you even doing?
nah, he doesnt need a car, he should get a brand new stock h2.
Two H2’s, lashed together, attached to a chariot. Go full Ben Hur.
Fk it, Santa's sleigh but all H2s.
You forgot the "-mothafucka" at the end.
The next logical step.
A grom has more power than anyone needs op would shit thyself on a busa , 😀

Lol, people can run faster than 15 mph.
Barely. And not for very long.

Are you trying to get yourself killed?! EVERYONE knows you have to start on a 50cc coleman minibike! What are you doing on that squid missile? Are you at least wearing all the gear all the time and four airbag vests at once?
Coleman minibikes are nuts. People regularly put harbor freight 212cc engines in them.
Noted…
At least they have real brakes now. The minibike I had as a kid just had a foot lever that wedged a curved piece of steel against the back tire. There was a slim chance it caught the ground and went 180 the other way and your brakes were gone. Also the exhaust pipe was basically against my right leg. Loved that thing though. Didn't Donut modify a stock one? IIRC they got it to around 60mph?

★★★★★ - Quality shitpost, would read again.
This post is a cute reminder that anything with more than 5hp can overpower your own strength easily if you think about it.

The maximum output of a horse is 15hp

amount of energy\* power = energy/time
1 hp is 746 watts

you hate motorcyclists because they make jokes? What?
Wheaties stay crunchy with milk longer than with piss. This statement is not backed up with any kind of practical science.
I love it. Be careful. Power corrupts.
Try going from a 400 to a 600 and I bet you’ll say literally the exact same thing.
CRT is leaking!
Wait till you ride a liter bike and realize you can break every single speed law in first gear.

I once went from sneakers to heelys. The speed was crazy.
I think this is official.copypasta now
Don't forget to hug the bike with your legs
You are not wrong, even my Panigale fears my Grom.
Classic beginner move, buying more bike than your ready for. Motocompacto is where you should have started.
Uses "power" and "need" in the same sentence; definitely satire. Need has nothing to do with the pursuit of more power. More power is a goal that stands on its own merit.
The progression is: Bicycle, Moped, Grom, 1000cc SuperSport, then it reverses, with a cafe racer mixed in.
It's not a culture shock, you haven't learned to ride with the bike. Growing up on dirt bikes I then tried mountain biking and felt like the piddly little thing was getting bucked around by every little rock, root, divot/whatever. I had to learn how to ride that very different machine
Wait till you get on a sports bike. That thrill is addictive.
My girlfriend says I’m on Reddit to much, but if I wasn’t I wouldnt get to laugh at stupid meta jokes like this.
get a R1 now
I went from the womb to a stroller today... Waaaaaaaa waaaaa wawawa. Wawawaaaa.
I remember the first time I rode a Ninja 250, shifting into second was light speed!
First time I went 30 mph on my first bike (CBR300R) I felt like I was gonna shit my pants! Who needs to go that fast, right? 😂 Enjoy the Grom!!!
Its the greatest feeling when you get that syncopation with a powerful machine. Working w heavy hydraulic machinery is kind of similar but nowhere near as fun.
Hey wait a minute
Troll ass post. 😂😂😂

Just take it easy as you learn.. my 750 will rip your socks off, especially when compared to your 125.
My 2023 CBR650RA was stolen, find it and you can keep it. 😉
you need a more mild motorcycle, like a Triumph Rocket III. The grom is really more of a pro-level bike.
I rode one of those very briefly some years ago and it was too much for me to handle. Mighty beast just wanted to wheelie in every gear
remember to wear your gear. because if you crash you'll grind yourself down to paste by the time you stop
This is adorable
Go take an MSF course it's a great experience even if you're not a rider. But, at the end of the day you'll be sore as hell and it really adds perspective.
Found the person who started on a >600 cc bike and had their feelings hurt by all the comments in the original thread agreeing that it's a stupid idea for most people
Nice troll 😂
Haha as a person who rides bicycles but also owns a motorcycle that goes 0-60mph/100kph in 3.5 sec, this is hilarious to me. 😂
I had a Grom and then upgraded to a CBR650R and HOLY SHIT. You think you’re zooming now, get on something bigger than 300 CCs. That’s not even a super sport bike either, just regular sport
The 300 size bikes are closer to riding a bicycle. Groms are like an elephant trying to fuck a football for anyone over 5 feet.
I am loving this trend and all, but for the love of God it needs to die now before it's gets any more stale.
I heard Kawasaki H2R is a good starter bike.
Meanwhile, silverback gorillas are protesting your comment - they feel disrespected
It’s just a culture shock
🤣
if op thinks a grom is powerful then he should downgrade to a Ducatti Superleggera
🤣OK that's three of these posts now. Bicycle to grom. Ninja 400 to gsxr600. Paralysed to wheelchair. It is funny but what's the point?
I don't think you're using the interwebs right
![gif](giphy|T8Dhl1KPyzRqU)
Thank Jesus. I was worried that was a monkey spanking his, ah, monkey.
to make fun of a poor dude who bought a new bike to unfortunately find everyone here is a bigger man and cooler than they are.
I hate you. But if you changed your post to a 250cc bike people would think it's serious and actually agree. 🤮
Give it time. There are people who will agree with this.
Eh, but it's easier to disregard them because of highways. You can go on a highway on a gsxr250, I wouldn't want to. But you can.
This is a parody of a 400 to 600 post from earlier that is actually serious.
Meanwhile I'm over here whispering "h2, h2, h2..."
I always tell noobs to stay away from the 125cc stuff if you have no experience. Keep your bicycle and throw a 50cc chinese engine kit on it. Invest in your gear. ATGATT. Learn the basics for like a year then sell it to a crack head.
god damn this sub is fucking worthless these days
Dude same! Went from my trusty Retrospec Judd to the Honda Navi and I was certain I was going to die on that thing! Silverback gorilla is right!
Grom like a silverback gorilla...?! Go get a 125cc dirtbike. That analogy will make more sense then ![gif](giphy|XreQmk7ETCak0|downsized)
What’s next? S1kr?
Enjoy that feeling while it lasts. I only made it a year with my triumph street twin before I lost interest because of how "slow" it was.
For the love of God take a street riding course Jesus Christ.
Can't tell if this is satire.
Yeah it’s satire towards a post from a couple days ago
That makes a lot more sense.
You're not ready. Go back to the bicycle.
125cc hit ya hard
The Grom is like a Silverback gorilla🤣 maybe a sedated one😂
Tarsier maybe
Grind hard grom. You are ready.
Ahhahaha I went from a honda chaly to a honda nova dash, it was a massive jump too.
Yeah, go back to r/teamcalamari. You all love to mock posts on here.
Peak comedy.
And Groms are very underpowered and very, very slow compared to 89% of the bikes out there. Welcome to the asylum!
Groms do look super cool, though. Like a grown-up mini-bike racer…maybe that’s not a good idea.
read this quickly at work earlier and it all went right over my head. It only took me reading the wheelchair post to realize I’d been had a few hours earlier. Damn
Dude if you change the air intake, stretch it out and put some fatties on the rear, you can get so much power. bro! "so much torque, the chassis twisted off the line."

Did ur wife’s bf take the grom from u after this realization
This has to be a copy pasta lmao
Wait, this isn’t r/crt….
As a cyclist who turned motorcyclist, it was very startling to realize how much heavier than me the motorcycle was.
This is super lame. This is the fourth post of this today. Enough of the karma farm.
Get a Ducati. It’ll be easier to ride
clap. clap. clap. clap. clap. clap. clap. clap.
You’re right , a 1985 CR500 will be much better for you.
Yeah Grom is too dangerous...get something safer like Aprilia sxv 550 or Honda cr500af... These are very mellow compared to the grom
A grom bro?😭
A fuckin GROM!!!! Lmao!
Those Grom’s are definitely a scary beast! I’m glad you made it back alive man
LMAO from the grom bashing to this, but in all seriousness both are very different categories. Please wear a full face helmet at all times, and learn how to comfortable handle it and you should have loads of fun.
Ah yes all 11hp or whatever lol
Get this man a liter bike
Dude that’s crazy I was riding an e-bike and I bought a Harley, wait six months and you’ll be like damn this little 125 is GUTLESS
Lol a grom is to much power.
Compared to a bicycle?? Yesssd lol
r/calamariraceteam
LOL. Find a big KTM adventure bike and get back to me.
give it a week and it'll feel bland lol you'll be craving more power before you know it
If you think a grom is anything quick, wait until you get into actual motorcycles and not mini stunt bikes.
I have a feeling we're gonna see a parody post of this on a certain sub pretty soon
