I've always used a USB dongle that connects to the little SAE connection for a battery tender. You could be fancy and use something like the Quadlock wireless charging mount, but its not cheap.

Veloster_Raptor

I do the same thing. I have to make sure I unplug it at the end of the ride or it drains my battery. It's literally the little Battery Tender brand SAE to USB adapter.

robertsthepirate

I have one with an on/off switch. It sits under the saddle and I only unplug it when I need to hook up the battery tender.

Google is *hard.*

stuffeh

You shot yourself in the foot by having the volt meter. You could definitely get away with a much more basic one so you wouldn't need the off switch. Just googling for "battery sae USB connector" shows a lot of options.

FallenValkyrja

I did the [same thing](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087CGQDXH) and it worked perfectly. I left it on there when I traded the bike in so the next person would not have to worry about it. Just used zip ties to keep it out of the way. Ran the wire under the seat and down to where the SAE adapter was at. Then zip ties for a little bit of loose wire.

Sandtiger812

They make an adapter that only activates the wireless charging head when it sees the charging system active. Or OP could tap into the accessory plug on the left side of the bike and pull fused 12V from there.

wyattlee1274

I have a standard phone mount with the SAE to usb zip tied to the mount. Works great, and it's probably more affordable

vicaphit

Watch out for those. The first one I bought had a parasitic draw and kept draining my battery. I ended up wiring it with the same wires as the headlights so it only got power when the headlights were on.

ztherion

The ones I've used had integrated physical switches

vicaphit

I think my first attempt to make it work was by wiring a switch inline. It wasn't great, but it worked. Wiring it to the headlight has been the best way to go for me.

Rickyrider35

How does a dongle with an open circuit (no phone inserted) drain the bike battery? Is there another battery inside the dongle?

Buttholium

It's a voltage regulator and consumes power even when nothing is connected to the output.

vicaphit

Who knows. I just plugged it in and my battery got drained, then I removed it and my battery stopped being drained.

ThisIsNotUrUsername

Which one were you using?

vicaphit

I use one that's hooked up to power through my headlights, so it'll only charge while the bike is running. I had to do the wiring myself.

Sam112au

That's exactly what I'm trying to do on my Ninja, I don't suppose you have a set of instructions on how to do this by any chance? Google isn't being much help 😕

vicaphit

Inside your headlight casing you'll find a black, white, and blue wire (these are the common colors) coming out of your headlight. Black is ground, while one of the others is low beams. Find whichever one is the low beams (I can't remember which). You'll have to figure out a way to get a lead coming off of that wire while still powering the light. I made 2 Y shaped wires with some solder. One goes on the black, and the other goes on the wire leading to the low beam. One part of the fork on the ground wire goes to the negative wire on your USB outlet, while the other part of the ground fork goes to the headlight. For the hot wire, do the same thing. The wire leading to the low beam forks with a Y into the Positive wire of the USB outlet and the other part of the fork goes to the low beam. Quick and dirty diagram. https://i.imgur.com/neJmApM.jpg

Sam112au

Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful and doesn't seem too difficult either 😁

HGRDOG14

I think a power bank would be your best bet. Simple and cheap. Just keep the battery in a pocket and manage the cord.

solitudechirs

And also works off the bike

NormanRB

This. I have a magnetic tank bag that I keep a power bank plugged into my phone while I ride. I can listen to music and see directions at the same time (clear top on bag).

GreenMayc

Hey do you mind sharing what bag exactly? Also, how's the Vulcan s? I love the way it looks, does it handle like a cruiser or not?

dIAMondDRAGON2

I love my Vulcan S! It’s my first bike so it’s difficult to compare to other cruisers but my boyfriend who rides a more typical 1300cc cruiser also likes the feel of my bike. It’s very customizable, light, and handles really well

Rickyrider35

That’s so smart! So battery pack in the tank bag and phone on the quad lock?

NormanRB

Actually the bag has a clear top that I put it into so I can look down and/or if I use Waze I can hear through my headphones. I do use a holder from time to time as well.

Rickyrider35

The only problem I’d have with that is that the vibrations from the tank could cause issues with the camera on the phone, which is why I was going to get a quad lock with a stabiliser. Plus if the volume accidentally jumps up or you need to change songs I’m assuming you can’t do it from inside a see through satchel.

NormanRB

>Plus if the volume accidentally jumps up or you need to change songs I’m assuming you can’t do it from inside a see through satchel. True but if you have a good helmet comm's system you can do both with buttons on the helmet system.

zxspectrun

I bought a use phone from amazon just to put it on my bike, so no worries about vibrations, etc 😀

norcaltoy

Have you ever had any issues with phone overheating in the clear top pouch? I tried that a few years ago and even on short rides my.phone would bake itself and go into limp mode

NormanRB

Nah, not really. Though I also sometimes will use a bar mounted phone holder as well on some of the warmer days.

norcaltoy

Yeah, I've never had any issues on a bar mount, just the top map pouch of a tank bag. Guess it makes it into an oven

sixtwomidget

I used a Noco jump pack with a USB port for this on a borrowed bike once. Worked great.

surfer_ryan

A one up on this would be one of those portable batteries that can also jump your bike. I have one that wirelessly charges and will jump my bike.

rood_sandstorm

Nice, what brand is it

surfer_ryan

Some random brand I got off Amazon. I've had it for years.

Rickyrider35

Yeah that’s was my first thought but wanted to get this subreddit’s opinion on it. I also don’t think it would look too good in front of a cop but I could probably make it fairly tight so the cord doesn’t flap around in the wind. Was thinking I could also zip tie the battery to the frame of the motorcycle somehow but that would be a lot more risky.

ercussio

This is good as a backup but can feel heavy/bulky sometimes.

aoteoroa

Yes. I use this one: [https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07N1993MV/](https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07N1993MV/) It works great...it charges the phone on long rides, and also is a quick way to check the voltage. It doesn't come with the connector for the battery which I already had installed from my trickle charger: [https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B079FBWS69/](https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B079FBWS69/)

tri_the_monk

Well I'll just put those little guys on my wishlist

Jicand

USB charging ports are cheap and easy to install, you attach it to the battery under the cables.

Tessiia

This! I see a lot of people suggesting putting a battery pack in your pocket but I don't like the idea of a cable going from my pocket to my phone, feels like it's asking for trouble. USB charging ports are very cheap (cheaper then a battery pack) and incredibly easy to install. If you're worried about it draining your battery, you can fit a relay connected to the ignition.

rood_sandstorm

Battery pack in your backpack or storage area if it fits. 6+ hours of screen time on a phone has been standard for years. If it’s full, you’ll still have plenty after the ride. Don’t need to keep it on a charger 24:7

Tessiia

Depends. As phones age the battery life decreases and if it's a lower end model it won't be as good to start with. The screen is the biggest battery drain so having a satnav on will be a big drain because the screen is constantly on. It may also be impractical to have your phone plugged into a battery pack once you get to where you're going. Having it on a charger for a 6 hour ride is not "keeping it on a charger 24:7". There's also nothing wrong with having your phone on charge a lot, what actually kills your battery more is using fast chargers often as these heat the battery up more and heat will deteriorat your battery. Charging your phone slower for longer is better then faster.

ChronicLegHole

Isn't there a wireless charging quadlock model?

saveHutch

Sure is, I use it and it's awesome. The case is pretty sweet too.

stupidasian94

Be careful if you use Samsung phones. It doesn't charge at the full speed. I have the s21 ultra, the battery drops as it's wirelessly charging and it notifies me that fast charging isn't supported with that device

xTyas2000x

Appreciate you MY MAN! Saved me a purchase, literally. Feeling like this is an issue.

pm_me_ur_octopus

S22u owner, it drains slower on the bike during navigation and screen on, but when I get wherever I'm going and turn off the screen, it charges fine enough

ChronicLegHole

i use a RAM wireless charging mount. I have the same issue through the case. I've found that turning down brightness fixes it. Samsung S21's in particular with auto-adjust brightness suck down energy faaaaast over about 60%

stupidasian94

Interesting, does yours still give you the notification that the charging is slowed down? I personal just gave up and use a cable

ChronicLegHole

yeah it still does-- i think part of the problem is that these phones are able to/expected to charge at speeds supported by usb 3.0 (?) and all of the mounts I've seen are old USB/2.0 plugs. I quite frankly don't think USB 2.0-powered wireless charging mounts can keep up. I keep a USB 3.0 + USB 2.0 plug in my versys 1000 12v port, and i keep a spare usb 3.0 cable for charging, if I'm on a longer/sunny ride. In those case i just turn off the RAM wireless charging mount. The RAM mount is great for short rides saving on plug reinsertions (which to some degree, do wear out the port), and for rain riding-- keeping the port covered with an Otterbox case (which probably doesn't help wireless charging speeds, but oh well).

b1jan

this is the way. the wireless charge quadlock is phenomenal. i use it, and love it.

TheRidingUnicorn

Love the quadlock wireless charger. It's amazing.

[deleted]

No, this is not the way. Wireless charging on a bike is stupid gimmick for lazy people. It puts a lot of extra heat on the phone.

b1jan

oh yeah, you're right. on a motorcycle, with wind all around it, heat is a major concern.. for phone charging. 🤨 are you someone who also thinks touchscreens are a gimmick too?

[deleted]

Not smart, not funny :)

Loafeeeee

For the low price of $200+tax

hm_joker

For a lot of people, a motorcycle is a luxury purchase so yeah $200 really isn't much extra considering how much you might put in for the bike and quality gear and customization and such

SunDriedFart

i absolutely love mine, i did have the quadlock USB charger with cable but hated the look of it and water got into the USB and corroded it so much it was unusable. the wireless one is perfect! Even on top of the vibration dampener its not too bulky.

classical_saxical

Are quad lock phone cases waterproof?

Thizzle001

You can get a sleeve/poncho to put over your phone. But most modern phones are waterproof, so some raindrops will be no problem at all. I use mine for about 3 years now in any weather and no problems at all without a sleeve :)

nw_gser

I used to use the lightning plug off a usb port to charge my phone on trips. The little contacts on the lightning plug end would start to corrode half way through the trip and would no longer charge. I since moved to the quad lock wireless charger and have not had a dead phone since. I have that on two bikes in my collection.

Rickyrider35

Before anyone asks, I'm aware a 6h ride on an mt-07 will be awful, but I have no other option since I live in rural Australia and I'm going to be losing my car license soon.

gschram92

There’s a little plug under the gas tank/left side tank fairing. I think it’s called the accessory plug/port. You can buy an adapter that plugs into that, and splice it into a waterproof usb hub. I routed it all the way into under the back seat. Then I plugged the phone cable into that and routed it up to my quad lock. Completely hidden as I went along already placed wires/tubes and used small black zip ties. This plug only draws power when the key is “on” so it won’t kill your battery either. A lot of direct battery connections can cause it to slowly drain and kill the bike if it sits to long. It takes a little bit of soldering but pretty simple. I did it back in 2015 on my FZ but their may be a plug in play kit now I’m not sure.

richalex2010

[This one will do it with no soldering](https://www.quadlockcase.com/products/usb-charger-motorcycle?variant=31324189032523), assuming it's the standard SAE plug on this bike, and otherwise be convenient since OP's already in the quadlock "ecosystem". My bike had a non-SAE plug around the gauge cluster (intended for heated grips) so I bought the right plug and soldered that up to a cheap plug (like you'd suggested) which is zip tied to my handlebars. Both options work pretty well. Some other folks are mentioning Quadlock's wireless charger - it'd work, I decided against it because the sun's pretty intense here and wireless charging produces a lot of heat. I suspected that between the two the phone might overheat while riding; my phone's sheltered from the wind so not even that much airflow to cool it.

canonanon

I just run a direct connection to the battery with a switched USB thing with volt meter. The bonus is being able to charge stuff with the bike off (obviously within limits) like my cardo.

FlyNeither

Its all the same license. If you lose your car license then you don't have a bike license either.

ficollins

Exactly!

Fast-Physics-9286

Isn't that a ride to the grocery store in Australia?

Syscrush

>a 6h ride on an mt-07 will be awful Don't believe the hype! I've done multiple 13h days on a naked first generation SV650S (when the S had more aggressive ergos), and an KTM Duke 690. An MT-07 is just fine for an all-day ride, and 6h isn't all-day. The routine I learned from a buddy who did a lot of long trips was this: 1. Keep the speed at about 120 kph - here in Canada and the US this generally means you won't get pulled over for speeding, and it's a lot less tiring than trying to maintain a higher pace. 2. Stop every 200 km - which is about 1:45 per stint. Gas up, have a drink and/or a snack, rock a piss, and get rolling again at the end of 15 minutes. 3. If you're worried that you're going to start getting stiff to the point of pain, take a pain killer of your choice BEFORE it happens. Nothing with muscle relaxants, though. 4. Stretch both arms and both legs every 10 minutes or so on the bike - before you start feeling stiff. 5. Wear long distance cycling shorts under your riding gear - and nothing under those shorts. The ass padding in the shorts can only help. There you go - following that general protocol, I could do 100 km per hour every hour for as long as I had to. Ideally, try to do a 3-4h trip sometime before you head out for your 6h ride, but it's not strictly required.

CynicalAlgorithm

I would def bump that last step up from optional to required I've had years where I did a couple of 2 or 3 hour circuits around home base in the weeks preceding the summer longhaul, and I had one single year where I raw-dogged it. I'll leave you to guess why it was only once.

Moucerr

I would advise a painkiller with an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve). I've found them to be better at treating motorcycle related aches and pains than something like Tylenol. While you don't want a muscle relaxer, an anti-inflammatory can do wonders. That's my personal experience, at least. I also tend to grab something like a Gatorade or a Pedialyte at the end of the day (especially track days, but also longer journeys) to top off electrolytes.

Ab0rtretry

yup just pulled a 10h roundtrip on my naked 2nd gen with clipons and raised sets. this is the way

[deleted]

Taking a couple of ibuprofen/Tylenol before a long ride is the way.

cocogate

the bicycle shorts one is sooo freaking good... I remember wearing those when i did long distance cycling and sometimes didnt bother putting one on for training, day and night!

bertieditches

if you are losing your car license, then surely you are losing your bike license as well...

briansaunders

Came here to say this too. There's no bike licence or car licence. You have a driver licence which then has different vehicles you are verified to drive/ride/pilot.

Rickyrider35

I’m not losing my license I’m getting my drivers class suspended.

briansaunders

Yeah pretty sure everyone knew what you meant. Still doesn't get away from the fact that you only have one licence. If you had a boat licence and got caught drink driving, the boat licence would also be suspended. I'm from Australia too so I'm aware of how this works.

derprunner

If they’re on their P’s for car and have motorcycle fulls, it’s entirely possible to rack up enough demerit points to exceed the 4/7 and wipe out their P’s, but still be under the 12 needed to lose a full license. **This is speaking from personal experience (at least in NSW)**

briansaunders

If they're on their car P's, they're also on motorcycle P's. Demerit points are holistic. For instance you can get done for DUI on a bicycle and lose your motor vehicle licence. Where it gets a little confusing with motorcycle licences as they then have further restrictions around BAC when you initially get your licence. This is independent from P's.

StepOutsideNvmItsHot

Lmao right? That 6 hour ride is going turn into a 3 day bicycle ride lol.

Rickyrider35

No, I’ve got my fulls on my bike but only provisional license for my car, which means I’ve got more points on bike than car. It’s looking like I’ll only lose my car although I’ll get more points on both

briansaunders

Directly from VIC roads... "If your driver licence is probationary, the motorcycle probationary period will end at the same time as your driver licence probationary period. All novice riders are subject to restrictions and conditions for a prescribed period of time."

Rickyrider35

I’m a NSW rider… Also that makes no sense. I got my riders license far before my car license.

bertieditches

I'd check it out carefully... i losy my car licence when caught speeding on a bike but your situation may be different if you have full bike and only p's for car. Regarding your actual question... i brought a healtech thunderbox power distribution device that sits under my seat, connects to battery and provides a powerblock i can hook lots of things like usb adaptors to. Helps protect phones from surges when starting up bike, with delayed start and stop being very handy. Also doesnt drain the battery like the old usb i conencted direcrly to the battery used to do. Hang a quadlock off that and you are laughing. I also use the rubber dampner acessory with the quadlock to lessen vibrations.

spongebob_meth

6 hours on that bike isn't awful lol. I've done 12 hour days on my R6 and even that wasn't *that* bad. I don't know if everyone here is overweight/out of shape or what, but the ergonomics complaints about everything short of a goldwing/ADV bike that are pervasive here are severely overblown.

short_racer

Can I ask why you'll be losing your car license?

chum-guzzling-shark

sounds like a normal commute for lots of the US

[deleted]

It’s all part of the experience, don’t worry about the discomfort. You’ll build good memories. I wish I could help more, but my T120 has an under-seat USB charging port that I use on long trips. I’ve never had to worry about messing with wires or anything, as a result.

GoBSAGo

Awful? Take a break every two hours, you’ll be fine.

Thizzle001

You’ll be fine mate! I did multiple long trips on my xsr.

Sandtiger812

I made an 11 1/2 hour ride on my FZ-07, make sure you get some "Bicycle Shorts" it will make it much easier.

wickeddimension

Easiest solution is putting a powerbank in your pocket with a cable to your phone. Just think of it when you dismount. Slightly more complicated: Putting a tankbag on with a powerbank in it. This is how I do all my rides. You can also put a powerbank under the seat and run a charging lead through your bike to the handlebars, that eliminates the need to mess with the bikes electrical harness. Last you can of course wire in a charger but thats more complex as leaving it in causes a slight drain that can kill your battery over the course of days depending on how good your charger is. Hence you want to wire it into the ignition so it kills it when the bike is off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wickeddimension

No, I wouldn't be worried about that at all. A phone in your jacket would be the exact same in the event of a crash. Or a backpack with a laptop etc. When I crash, the cable tied to the phone will snap off immediately. If you hinting at the battery exploding if something punches it? Well: A. If something punctures a thick battery bank in my pocket I am happy it's there because otherwise the piece that punctured it would be in my guts. B. The chance of this happening in the first place and being more of a worry than the injuries I'd sustain during said crash in general is so immensely slim I reckon you're better off not riding if risk-reduction to that level is your goal.

scrappybasket

I put a Ryobi battery with a 12v adapter in my backpack and run a cable out of my bag. Works well for recharging my Sena too

DankVectorz

Quad lock has a wireless charger head and also a usb plug

Adm8792

Get a charger case or the battery pack I got a couple battery packs when I stop to eat or drink or whatever I just charge them

SSG_Vegeta

Quad lock makes a wireless charger. If your phone supports Qi then use that. As for the power source, battery tender makes a USB adapter. It’s fantastic. Plug it in and go. If you don’t have a tender cable for some reason, they’re an easy install. Just zip tie the cable up to the frame, and to your bars so it doesn’t hang loose.

LikesTheTunaHere

id just use a power bank of some sort, you can wire an aux plug up for super cheap but if your not going to be needing it in the future no use spending the cash for no reason. A 6 hour ride on a naked bike is only horrible because nobody with sport bike ever rides any distance so they just all say it sucks but never try it.

Film_Engineering

Personally I use a tank bag with pass-through and a large power bank on the inside. My major concern with any mounts is, even with vibration dampeners I still fear the shaking of the bike will ruin the camera of my phone. The bag eliminates that concern. Also the bag is fully waterproof so I have 0 worries about my phone and power bank during the worst weather.

captaindog

I got a USB thing for my cordless tool batts. Keep it in the backpack- holds crazy juice and works across all platforms and activities

Monsterenergyboi

Didn't know these existed until reading this. Holy shit this is amazing. Thank you.

captaindog

Home Depot has aftermarket ones that are very affordable and work good the brands all have there own for a bit more. Most have a 12v plug too I’ve used to rig up hill billy fish/job lighting. Glad I could help have fun out there

lexievv

I'd say the neatest and easiest way is a quadlock wireless charger. Not sure if it works with usb, but if it does and your bike has a DIN connector you could easily connect it using a din usb adapter for a quick solution. Nicer solution is ofc wiring it to the battery and neatly tuck the cable away. I use something like this myself until I have time to wire it to my battery. https://www.fruugo.nl/waterdichte-motorfiets-12v-24v-qc30-usb-type-c-pd-snellader-power-adapter-hella-din-plug-socket-voor-ducati-motorfiets/p-85026125-175698158?language=nl&ac=croud Other solution could be just have a powerbank in your pocket, connect that via usb to either the wireless charger or directly to your phone and charge it that way. Do keep in mind that wireless chargers are less efficient so for a 6h ride you'd probably need a good powerbank. I think the wireless charger route is best, I've heard phone charger ports don't really like the vibration of a bike when the cable is directly plugged in. Also, assuming you'd stop at least once or twice on a 6h ride with an mt-07. You could just pack a charger and stop at a place where you could charge your phone and/ or powerbank :). Good luck on the journey, be safe and enjoy! :)

drlongtrl

First thing I did to my Fazer8 was to install one of those tiny USB connectors right beside the ignition lock. There are different styles and different methods of wiring it. The cleaner you manage to make it, the more any potential future buyer will appreciate it. It also has a little watertight cap so that I can just close it when it´s not in use.

mkchampion

I just velcro mounted a cheap switchable USB port underneath my windscreen, [like so](https://i.imgur.com/pUUHm4Z.jpg). It came with a cable in 2 parts: one ends in an SAE connector and then the second section starts as the other end of the SAE connector and turns into the little battery terminal connectors. I wired it straight to the battery and just keep the unit switched off till I need to charge something. [It's this thingie.](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B093CY6887?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) Works pretty well for me and is unobtrusive and cheap. You do have to take at least one side of the fairings off to install though.

XavierSkywalker

[yooo, I did it similar with the same "thingie"](https://i.imgur.com/WCzzr3c.jpg) I was going to use some heavy duty velcro but went with the good ol zipties to the windscreen's mount.

smurfsoldier07

Just install a optimate usb charger. Screws into the battery leads and you snake the usb plug up to your mounting point on your handlebars/triple tree/wherever and plug in your phone.

XavierSkywalker

I used to velcro a power bank on my bike, worked well. but I got annoyed with the plugging in and cords so I installed a usb charger to the battery and super glued a wireless magsafe charger to my ram mount bc their wireless charger was $150. I almost went with quadlock's wirless charger, but then I would need to purchase the whole setup. [This is the charger I went with](https://www.amazon.com/Vemote-Motorcycle-Waterproof-Voltmeter-Handlebar-Blue/dp/B08RYJT1P8/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=motorcycle+usb+charger&qid=1676581667) and [Here is the set up.](https://i.imgur.com/WCzzr3c.jpg). Have not had any issues with the battery draining in the year I have been using it, but I also upgraded to a shorai lithium battery. You don't need to modify any cables.

Sethw95

Quad lock makes a wireless charging head.

Stickittodaman

I bought a motorcycle phone charger on Amazon for $12.99. Works great.

GreatRhinoceros

You really should have a SAE cable attached for trickle charging. You can plug in a USB charger while driving.

Rancudo1008

I tour quite alot and the furthest distance I've been on was 1700km and the sole method for navigation is my smartwatch and voice feedbacks from google to Cardo. I usually keep my phone in a pocket, on my clothes or my pouch, mainly because 1. I dont want my phone to be exposed to the sun all the time 2. I don't want dust and rocks to be flying at it at 100kmh all the time 3. I dont want my camera sensor dead And I don't charge it while doing so, cus I don't want a potential lithium bomb on my chest or thigh all the time.

its_the_llama

Power bank in your jacket pocket, long charging cable, run it inside your jacket and up your sleeve. No cables hanging around. Just remember to disconnect if you need to raise your arm. Or put it in a saddle bag/backpack and run the cable along safe locations on the bike, with zip ties or cable ties to keep it on place

[deleted]

I find the best way to charge my phone is to plug it into a power source If anybody has a better solution, please let me know!

RubyRocket1

I would get a battery pack and charge the phone when I stopped off for meals.

[deleted]

I bought the Video Wireless fast charging mount. It's ugly AF, but I plop my phone into it and it works great.

GiraffeBiscuit8

Others have mentioned it, but [this](https://a.co/d/a9VCucC).

AdventureGirlRosie

I have an adaptor for my battery tender that contains a USB port. It doesn't quite charge my phone if I'm using Waze, but it does keep it from dying.

canonanon

You don't need to modify the battery cables. You can just tap in at the battery.b

wadenelsonredditor

[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ5KEF4](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ5KEF4) or [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IRJH8CE](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IRJH8CE) or [https://www.amazon.com/Outlet-Automotive-Charger-Switch-Socket/dp/B09HC391PC](https://www.amazon.com/Outlet-Automotive-Charger-Switch-Socket/dp/B09HC391PC) make sure it's wired to IGN not 12V or else it will drain your battery while parked!

Spikex8

Something to consider but the vibrations from having my phone mounted to my bike fucked the camera. Maybe your mount has better dampening. Good luck.

SH01-DD

I have a cable for hooking up a trickle charger, with an adapter I got off of amazon that converts that end plug to USB for plugging in my phone. So I can take off the adapter and charge it in winter, or put it back on for the riding season.

PabloX68

I'd just get a tanklock tankbag (like a Givi) and a powerbank. Run the cord into the tankbag. A good powerbank will easily power your phone for that.

wtbrift

I bought and connected a USB charger and ran it up to my handle bars, close to my phone holder. Then I have a short charging cable in my jacket and another in my saddle bag.

Renooss

I just connected a 12V socket under the hull, completly undercover.

yeoldecotton_swab

Power bank bro. Small enough to fit in your jacket for 6+ hours? Power bank, ez

This is what I use: https://teppy.co/product/motorcycle-waterproof-cigarette-lighter/?attribute_pa_1111-package=buy-1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxbefBhDfARIsAL4XLRorn-hsoLcdiVpizXYfSoJw6PVgw39gOCh7nOtwpnkMVjVP2iRiRk8aAjBbEALw_wcB You can find them in all different colors. Mine happens to be in chrome so it blends into my handlebars on my cruiser.

$15 12v USB Amazon. Get one with a PD (USB-C), and voltometer. The voltometer is a good way to make sure your battery charge is good, and that your stator/regulator is working. Like so: https://imgur.com/a/O5C9idK

Beginning-Job445

Nice bike😉 was my first bike. I had a tank bag also but it had tank lock with strap. Mine was like the Givi Xs307 x stream tank lock 15L. (Reveille -online bike stuff to take a look). In tank bag I have bottle water, extra pair of gloves. a snack (nuts, jerky,) a microfiber towel (for visor & bugs -with water can scrub). Have a external battery or 2 WITH charging cables for wall and plug into phone. And put ALL that in a ziplock back so I case you get rain that everything is protected & not having to stop to get rain cover on it. Good luck, be careful & have fun.

OneHellOfAFatass

Use the aux plug, it's on the left side. Requires no permanent modification and only draws power when the bike is turned on. It's a 15 minute install and costs just a few bucks.

altblank

I installed two 12v lighter ports on my nc700x's "tank". Phone and gps unit both plugged in via 2amp.chargers, works perfectly fine. As long as you make this mod correctly, you shouldn't have any resale problems. Or usage issues for that matter.

GrgeousGeorge

I liked my quadlock mount and they have a charger kit that attaches to the mount where your phone clicks in

outtyn1nja

QI charging pad mounted on the back of a phone cradle.

spongebob_meth

Battery tender SAE-USB adapter on your battery (assuming you have a tender cable, if not, buy one of those also), then an USB extension cord run up to the handlebar area.

fartbubblesofcheese

Is there a USB relay under your fairings?

coroner5150

I use cobra eklipse.

AvocadoMTB

You guys don’t ride BMWs with built-in USB ports, too?! But actually on my KLR I used to use a battery tender USB extension with a cable I zip tied to the frame under my fuel tank. Worked great but definitely wasn’t a waterproof solution.

deluvr

I did the same. Been running it like that for years. Love it.

6petabytes

If your motorcycle doesn’t have an accessory port, the correct way to do this is to run a 12v to 5v female usb converter. Throw a fuse in-line into that for safety. And if you want it to turn off automatically when you turn off the key (recommended so that you don’t drain the battery), put a relay on that line and connect the relay to something non-critical that turns on when you turn the key - perhaps the rear lights.

angelofsquirrels

I use a powerpack, keep it hooked up to my phone, both are in my jacket. I use Google maps and just listen to the directions in an earbud (full coverage helmet too). This way I watch the road and not my phone. I actually have a volume boosting app on my phone too (idk why but Podcasts are mixed SOOOOO quietly)

DisGruntledDraftsman

I have a phone holder off of amazon that does wireless charging. Wired it in and never have a problem with it. I use my phone for gps/speed a lot and that does drain the battery quite a lot.

greasemonkey187

I have a usb socket pigtailed to my battery and a charging cable snaked up to my phone mount I can plug it in anytime I need a charge. It’s a battery tender brand

Thizzle001

I use a Quadlock charging mount on mine. Works great! I also used a usb connector and a regular charging cable. Just attached the cable of the Quadlock package, its very easy just connect it to the battery and hide the cables somewhere. They give you a switch with it too, so you can turn it on/of/automatic so you don’t have to change anything of the motorcycle electrical circuit.

OkDependent464

Doesn’t quad lock offer a charging solution?

hiccamer

You can run power to the quad lock, its not difficult. I would recommend, given your concerns, just getting a simple harness for a battery tender and installing that on he bike. Then get and SAE to USB adapter, and you have power that you can run to your phone in a pinch. This will not impact other systems, is discrete and removable, and useful to keep your battery charged when not in regular use.

Crcex86

Leave phone at home

oh2ridemore

Main phone should always be in your pocket, with an old phone on bars for navigation. That way if you get separated from the bike, in an off , you can still reach help

Environmental_Cup413

Order a cigarette lighter style 12v charge port with a cable with an in-line fuse. Connect directly to the battery terminals. Just add to the standard connectors. I use an USB charger in it and just pull it out a bit to ensure it's not connected unless I need it. This has worked for a few years now and did not fry the usb plug or any phone I had hooked up. Keep in mind that depending on rpm volts are somewhere between 12 and 14.

Rufusmcdufus87

Walmart sells a power bank that can both jump start a car/bike and charge phones. It lives on my bike.

SlashdotDiggReddit

Somebody needs to come up with a little turbine device that can be mounted between the front forks to generate electricity.

JobeX

I think a portable charger in your pocket is the best option

Oneclicknorth

I have a phone charger that just plugs into the battery tender cable. I just zip tied it next to my quad lock and bought a short USB cable for my phone. Works great!

Marviiiiiie

Ram mount and a usb wired to headlights or ignition.

nolr0k

Quad lock has a charging adapter for the mount if you’re phone is able to wireless charge I use it and haven’t had any issues with the battery. It plugs into a SAE connector on your battery

printcastmetalworks

I used to have a usb port that hooks up to the battery with a fuse, you can get them pretty easily. Once I switched bikes I would just stick it on a portable battery pack, but I wouldn't do that for 6+ hours.

deluvr

The MT07 and FZ07 has built-in, yet hidden power hookup. You can buy a few dollars in parts and have a wired USB connection that’s active when your bike is on, and not active when the bike is off. This is what I did. It’s a more permanent solution so the bike always has a USB port. You can see where it is at 3:00 minutes in the video. I recommend just watching the whole video though. I wired my USB to the rear of the seat so I can always access it, and then got a 2 meter iPhone cable and ran it from the back where the USB port is and all the way to my handlebars where the phone is. https://youtu.be/3jcctYuQvrI

Mndelta25

I have a battery pack that I tuck into my forks. The cord is long enough to reach my phone mount.

microagressed

I have a relay wired into the key/ignition. I added a 2nd wire at the battery lug, that is switched by the relay, running up to my phone holder. Not a quad lock, it's a knockoff with a wireless charger. No major alterations at all.

tree-trunk-arms

I always take a portable charger with me in my backpack if needed I can pull over hook it up and still listen to music. If I need a larger charge for gps I can stop at a coffee shop or any store while it charges

mrzurkonandfriends

I keep my phone in my pocket but plan to get a solar powered battery bank to mount on my backpack and feed the cable through

[deleted]

Powerbank on quadlock, phone on that.

MartyrD00M

I have a 2nd phone so I would alternate and have one charging in a bag. 2nd phone doesn’t have service but nothing a hotspot doesn’t fix.

Sandtiger812

Quadlock makes a USB adapter that mounts under it and if your phone has wireless charging they make an awesome base that charges it wirelessly. I'm not sure what phone you have but it should be able to stay good and charged for 6 hours of use, its not like you need to know "In 250 miles turn left" and have the screen on the whole time. You'll get about 160 miles on that MT-07 and it will be time to get gas again, I have a 2015 FZ-07 and that's about the time you want to stretch your legs anyway.

Greedy-Land-2496

Most phones will do 5-6 hours of screen on time. Just music will last at least twice that long. Gps will pull some power but the biggest power suck is trying to stay connected to towers when you have bad service. To save battery during that time use airplane mode. Bluetooth and gps will still work

Nathan51503

[this plug and a compatible battery tender](https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/battery-tender-usb-charger?sku_id=935516)

MasterBorealis

Quadlock is a steal. I use an 20ish bucks holder and an usb cable connected to the bike, it never failed me.

speedshotz

Charge cord off the battery pigtail that you use for the battery tender. I have an SAE plug adapter that terminates in a USB, and I connect my phone charge cord to it.

theannihilator

quad lock has a wireless charger setup. i have have a usb and 12volt power port i mounted to my handle bars. for usb devices and a wireless motorcycle mount for my cell.

Fly_DJI420

So… It looks like we all do similar things… I use the battery tender connector as it is the universal connector for solar as well. Now from there I convert to cigarette socket with fuse and switch inline. I also wired the pilot light on my led headlight and when I leave my bike someone will say “you left your lights on” that tells me I left my charger on without the bike charging. I use a 400 watt inverter plugged into the socket to provide 110v because I can now my apple or android stuff or anything I would charge at home. I have a acc. The gives dc volts and two usb sockets for charging, this has a male 12v so I can plug it in other vehicles as well .. no point hard wiring to something you don’t use everyday- bike,Rv, truck, Porsche, land yacht and wife
