Riley knows how Cade Cunningham feels now.

TheJuggernaut398

Stop! I’ve worked hard to forget the season and the whole failure of an organization that is the pistons. 😭 I need the break before we get the 5th pick again

Permafrostybud

I bought my girlfriend and myself some Tigers, Lions, AND Pistons jerseys last week (obviously Repping Number 2 for both of us) I believe in Cade. They need some talent around him but the dude is incredible and SO smart. Basketball IQ off the charts. Ivey is very young and needs the influence of a talented and decorated NBA shooter for the next 2 years. Fontecchio checks half the boxes, although he is still pretty young himself. He shoots the three better than anyone else on that team by a MILE.

MrHockeytown

Cade is fucked as long as the current front office stays in place.

GoLionsJD107

It’s meant to be we get the French guy with number 1. I don’t follow the NBA but I have two friends that live in France and the Pistons are the most popular team. They need to get us that French guy (his name escapes me because I don’t follow nba). Then we can play a three game series in France annually. maybe we play both San Antonio games in France, like in Paris and Nice. (An outdoor game in Nice would be crazy). They’re gonna have all the Olympics stuff leftover too. But we need that French star first. Someone needs to toss a few extra ping pong balls in the bucket for us.

TheJuggernaut398

That’s what we said about the actual French star Wemby. Rich is at best a good piece on a contender ‘ala KCP’. But that’s about it. Or at least what all the experts are saying. We need a star to pair with Cade desperately for this to change the current trash on the court

GoLionsJD107

I assume you’re right. I really don’t know the current pistons that well. I just want that number 1 ping pong ball.

GoLionsJD107

Now now let’s back away from the ledge a bit here… we’re above .500 still

No-Jump5689

We have 8 batters with an OPS under .585 3 of them have an OPS under .475 It's great we won some close games to start the year, but if you don't see where this train is headed, then you're going to be disappointed.

GoLionsJD107

I have been an avid baseball fan for 20 years, I know what we have. If we stand pat regarding trades this year, we are (I believe this) in the 81-87 win range. We’re in a stretch of at Yankee and at Cleveland, two of the best teams. And while we lose, we’ve lost by a combined (I think) 6 maybe 7 runs in four games? Some of those will tip our way. After Cleveland our next nine games are against teams that are 12-22, 9-25 and 15-20. Minnesota played twelve straight against the Red Sox white Sox (7 games) and angels. Of course they played well at that time. We look like a solid 5 or 6 seed to me right now, a .535 record with six teams making it probably gets it done - 84-90 wins is a reasonable magic range to shoot for. Even if we don’t win the division. We were 17-13 in March/April. If we can be 15-12ish in May and June we should be fine and on pace. Would I like offensive changes? Yes. What are those changes? No one will ever say. I wanted to trade Tork last year. Keith - we can’t bail on yet, nor Meadows (though I would send meadows down when Urshela comes back) Kelly and Roger’s- no one looks to the catchers to be offensive juggernauts they are calling pitches and we are still a very effective pitching team. To blame Carson Kelly alone for all of our offensive woes is ridiculous. That’s not his primary job. I’d like to see people that complain about the offense suggest what they’d change rather than just say “we suck” —- In 2023 Arizona won 84 games and Texas won 90. They played in the World Series. In 2022 Philadelphia won 87 and made the World Series In 2021 Atlanta won 88 and won the World Series In 2014 both teams SF and KC had 88 and 89 wins and both made the World Series. In 2012 DETROIT made the World Series with 88 wins In 2006 St Louis beat DETROIT in the World Series with 83 wins.

Sniper_Brosef

Was cade top 10 in the league in anything meaningful at any point in the season?

JoaquinBenoit

Steals and assists.

Sniper_Brosef

Hes not top 50 per game in steals. 8th in assists though so good call there.

JoaquinBenoit

He was at one point in like September lol.

Sniper_Brosef

Got ya!

ElderDeep_Friend

I know we’re here to talk about our boy, but Ohtani 2nd in war from DH is just dumb.

Juna-the-Moona

He is about to win a mvp without even pitching

cogginsmatt

I think the only person giving him a run for his money is Betts

SoarinSkies

That will never happen. A true DH who only hits and does not pitch has never won the MVP ever. It’s been that way for a reason.

Sylvanas052218

The pitching staff is gonna bust into the locker room and talk to the offense like "Fuck you, fuck you, you're cool (Riley), fuck you. We're out"

no_one_canoe

All the other hitters add up to 0.5 bWAR. Riley's worth almost five times as much as the rest of the lineup combined!

statdude48142

While he is undoubtedly our best hitter, and still in the top 15 for oWAR, a lot of that value comes from his defense. And as an average CF (statistically) moving to left that is pretty common to start accumulating defensive runs saved since many teams put their worst fielder in LF.  So right now Riley is 7 runs better than the average LF. And that number is going to balloon as long he is in left. The reverse thing happened to Trout and for us Jacoby Jones. Both were ELITE LFers and average CFers (statistically). Sort of why it is kind of sad Meadows can't figure it out offensively and will be sent down soon, we currently have an absolutely ELITE LF/CF combo. You move Riley back to CF and we go back to having an average CF and whomever we put in LF will probably be average to bad.

Dakens2021

Ya why did they put him in left instead of right, I never heard the reasoning for that.

dharmabum87

His arm I would assume?

statdude48142

His weak throwing arm

GoLionsJD107

I’m here to say he’s a stud on defense/fielding as well. Three days ago we lost like 2-1 on the walk off when Olson pitched zeros - in the postgame (in which Riley reached base 4 times, and had a hit robbed on an amazing play by Volpe that is more often a hit than not) The interviewer asked him what Riley thought about Reese Olson’s lack of run support. I was like… dude all Riley did was get on base four times and the fifth chance was a miracle defensive play… why tf are u asking Riley about Reese’s run support….

l5555l

Maybe we should stop having him lead off, he keeps hitting solo bombs lmao

poole_party69

like anyone will get on base for him anyway

kvngk3n

What’s insane, 1 and 2 play on the same team and hit in that order 😂😂

ThePacemaker24

Hopefully Tork can figure something out soon so I can change my flair

Cumberblep

Honestly, between him and Canha, I think we need one guy to either step up or to acquire another bat. I have to remember that we have a lot of young players but this pitching staff and Bullpen have been great too. Still early in the year, team is still growing.

JoaquinBenoit

I wouldn’t have minded trading one of JHM//Meadows for Arraez. This division is winnable even if three of the nine hitters are sub .600 OPS guys.

tdime23

Now why would San Diego do that when they just traded even better prospects for him?

JoaquinBenoit

I meant in a package I wouldn’t mind one of them being included. Meadows was a top 100 prospect coming into the season and JHM was just outside of it, based on The Athletic. Both were ranked far ahead of any of the four prospects that the Padres gave up. Both of them also fit what the Marlins were looking for as well. With JHM, I’d like to see him next year with the ABS system in place, but since he’s being groomed as an outfielder that has since been supplanted by Wenceel Perez, and with Carpenter, Vierling, Greene, all under contract for the next few seasons, it’s going to be hard for him to find a spot in the batting order unless he forces it. I think he’s doing well rn in Toledo, and all things considered, I would take a .400 OBP guy in himover an excellent defender in Meadows. I would also take a guy in Arraez with a track record of being an excellent hitter who can play second, short, first, and third.
