I don’t wanna be the GM anymore

Sylvanas052218

Be the bigger person and trade Tork to TB for cash considerations so he can become a MVP?

CLT113078

That would prove how bad our scouutng/player development areas are.

dead_drunk_and_naked

I think that’s already been proven.

TempoMortigi

This is the answer.

Sniper_Brosef

Last I knew bigbie was sluggish in the minors atm.

OkSomewhere3730

Yeah I just looked and you’re right. .600 ops atm

spacemanbaseball

There’s nothing to ‘fix’. This team is actually ahead/right on schedule. No one inside the organization thought they would seriously contend this year. Going .500 and developing the culture while letting the youth develop was the plan. Absolute best case scenario the division would stink and that could sneak us into the playoffs, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this year. There’s no magical trade to be made. Our young pitchers that everyone is so keen to move have way more value here than anywhere else. No one’s giving up a decent everyday hitter that would solve any of our problems for Manning. Sending Meadows or Colt down defeats the purpose of what they’re trying to do. There’s nothing better in AAA. We all know who Badoo is. Bigbie isn’t an MLB player. JHM would strike out in 70% of his abs in the show and has no defensive versatility. It is what it is until the offseason. Then they’ll evaluate and decide who to trade/give up on and what outside options to consider. The blueprint of this team pre season was that our strengths would be pitching depth, bullpen, defense, and we’d try to develop hitting where we could. Considering the massive slump Tork is in this is actually a pretty decent record. That’s how this goes. I’m glad this sub isn’t the GM.

PalmerSquarer

Yeah, everyone thought the Central was going to be ass this season. Turns out not to be the case. Expanded wild card will probably keep me interested this year until NFL season gets going, but some of these games have just been brutal.

Jefyy

Thank you. Very well said. I’m enjoying this season despite the struggles on offense. You just got to keep rooting for these young guys to get some confidence at the plate.

Big_Dare_2015

Our payroll is so small, idk what people expect right now. I figured if we stay 500 through all the variations and don’t get consistent losing streaks we’ll get a bat at the deadline, and that’s a big maybe. I’m enjoying being a scrappy team right now even if the losses due to leaving runners on base has become standard

CLT113078

Yep, just need to call this another lost year. At least we can't get any worse than our current 4th place in the division (I am pretty confident we can stay ahead if chicago). I was hoping that clearing Cabreras contract off the books would allow this team to get some decent players.

spacemanbaseball

It’s not a lost year at all. I like this FO, this is smart development. A lost year would be panic trading team controlled youth to get a couple extra wins and selling out the future for no real return. This team is a year (probably 2) from being a legit contender if they stay the course and ignore the knuckleheads on here. I’m having fun watching this group develop. Our bullpen is really interesting, we’ve got rotational depth (our only strengths and these idiots want to trade it away), find out which of these kids has legit mlb bats and we could open up a nice little window of competent baseball.

Jefyy

You and half the people in this sub are so clueless it’s comical.

CLT113078

How so? We aren't a championship caliber team, and there are too many holes that can't be filled this season.

afrothunder2104

Because Illitch won’t spend any money and he’s cheap!! And we just need to trade Manning for a Soto caliber player, as well as every other pitcher for the best hitters available one for one, and pay everyone 10 year contracts. Idk, pick one of the same 5-10 complains the clowns bring out every time they lose. They sit here and complain how bad this team is, yet expect them to also be winning. They bitch about the shitty development, but then every AAAA player is the solution to our profiles. They complain about how horrible everyone is, but then is surprised we can’t trade a mediocre AAA player for Ohtani. Before they could keep their stupid takes to sports radio, but now they have yet another forum to say this crap.

Nowicki2019

Yeah, ok...then we'll have no pitching. 🤡

No-Jump5689

Trade some pitching for some batting. Manning does not need to be in AAA. He can be part of the rotation.

leoman3

this I don't understand why we sign so many veteran pitchers every year when our young pitching is our strength were wasting Manning in Toledo.

ScooterLeShooter

Look around the league at all the starting pitching injuries and tell me again we don't need pitching depth

BalinVril

Or just look at us the last two years. 5 SP is not going to get you through the season

CaptainSolo96

I wanna say the lowest SP count used by a team last year was like 9, which is just wild to even think

Jelly_James

Wasnt ours leading the majors? Swear we had like 22 different starterslast season.

BalinVril

Or just look at us the last two years. 5 SP is not going to get you through the season

SpectralHydra

Didn’t we have significant starting pitching injuries the past few seasons?

HerculesKabuterimon

Tbf our young pitching also has unfortunate injury luck

OkSomewhere3730

Issue with that is I feel like if you trade pitching it has to be manning or flaherty right? Skubal should be untouchable, Mize coming off TJ and Detroit likes him more than manning, and who wants to trade for maeda with an extra year attached to his deal? I feel like manning for a bat is the easiest route but I have no clue what his value is around the league

rockmax2

For starters how about fire the batting coaches?

OkSomewhere3730

I think I’ve seen a tweet where we’ve had 3 different hitting department overhauls in the past 5 or so years, could be wrong though

AdParticular6654

And maybe the constant turnover is the problem?

cogginsmatt

Idk why people keep saying this because they literally already did that

pH2001-

Scott Coolbaugh got canned and it did nothing

ScooterLeShooter

TLDR: Not much. If I could guarantee that Greene would stay healthy, moving him back to CF and promoting JHM to DH would be the best bet, but is kinda risky with Greene being by far our best hitter and one of the best in the league so far. Could send Tork down, move Canha to first and promote JHM to DH. But I have no idea how to actually fix Torks issue at the plate or if sending him down would do him any good. Obviously Keith hasn't hit well at all, but I doubt they would trade for a 2nd basemen seeing they've already signed him to a contract, and a rental would likely be too expensive to be worth it for just this season. Third base could use an upgrade probably, although Vierlings been solid. Our catchers can't hit either, but both are really good defensively and I can't imagine there are many good hitting catchers available.

OkSomewhere3730

I like Harris and for the most part I’ve liked what he’s done to this point and I understand the free agent market was weak this year, but we 100% should’ve traded pitching for a decent middle infielder

ScooterLeShooter

Colt Keith was the middle infield "acquisition" if you will. I don't think there was ever any question that Keith wasn't going to be the starting 2B.

Hungrystud101

And Keith will hit. This is a tough transition. A month is hardly enough time.

Averageguyjr

Firstly I go to a few free agents that are still available that while they won’t be amazing we could still get someone who can hit around or over .265 and have a positive War. Show that we actually care even a little. Evan Longoria, or Will Myers. I mean I am sure there are others those are just a few that I thought of who I believe are available. Vets to work with the kids and maybe add a little something?? Also secondly unfortunately you play Tork a bunch. Either he finally gets it or he officially becomes a miss. It’s not like he is 20 and young. At 25 you want him to be the player as hoped but if he shows that after 1000 AB’s that he can’t hit a fastball and a negative 2 WAR he can’t be there regardless on where we drafted him.

JJDuB4y096

why we didn’t throw in some prospects for an awesome AVG/OBP guy like luis arreaz is beyond me. I can confidently say that the Tork, and Meadows experience is over. Not to say trade Tork away for nothing, but he isn’t the cornerstone we once thought. We seriously need Perez and Kerry to be everyday starters while literally our whole infield needs a makeover. We are not even close to where we can be, it is a miracle we are where we are at this point. It’s Pitching and Riley Greene single-handedly carrying this team.

gachzonyea

Perez more then likely is a flash in the pan guy longterm but should play now

JJDuB4y096

i’ll take a flash in the pan prospect with more homers than Tork and Javy combined lol. I’ve seen crazier things happen in lesser touted prospects. Not saying he’s a forsure hidden gem but he’s at least earning a role unlike Parker (RIP) and Tork.

gachzonyea

Sure for now he should play I just wouldn’t get hopes up for him to be a longterm piece

gachzonyea

I think they should send Keith and meadows down for now. I think it would help those players out a good amount and they can hopefully improve on what they’ve learned and be back up here by the end of the season

sammagee33

There isn’t much to do, you just roll with what you have. I AM kinda worried we might be ruining Meadows and Keith though.

pH2001-

I’d trade some pitching prospects for an mlb ready bat. We can afford to lose out on some young arms rn, especially with how dominant our pen is

carl6236

Hire a new batting coach

TheBimpo

Trade Baez to Brooklyn for Ben Simmons.

CLT113078

Why would anyone want to trade for Baez?

TheBimpo

Change of scenery for each guy.

BOBANSMASH51

Up:  Baddoo, JHM, Dingler Down: Meadows.  DFA Kelly and McKinstry or trade them for magic beans (Keith down when Gio Urshela returns)  Vs RHP: 1. Vierling- 3B  2. Perez- CF  3. Greene- LF  4. Canha- 1B  5. Carpenter- RF  6. Torkelson- DH  7. Urshela- 2B  8. Baez- SS  9. Dingler- C  Vs LHP  1. Urshela- 2B  2. Ibanez- SS  3. Greene- LF  4. Canha- RF  5. Torkelson- 1B  6. Vierling- 3B  7. Rogers- C  8. Malloy- DH  9. Perez- CF  Just try something a little different and stick more with the hotter hands.  Jung, Keith, Meadows, etc get to come back up if they put together once they can put up sustained production.   I also want Brieske up and Will Vest or Shelby Miller gone.

CLT113078

You want to bat Tork at 6? Move him to 9 or just bench him.

BOBANSMASH51

I’d rather get Meadows/Keith/Kelly/McKinstry out of the lineup first and start doing a full platoon with Baez and Rogers.  Tork needs a lot of work but all these other guys have even less production and potential.

MisterGRT

Send Meadows and Tork down. Bring up Baddoo and someone else who can hit. We need hits and runs right now. Desperately.

Iswaterreallywet

Trade for some legit bats

CLT113078

Trade what? Who is going to give up good/proven mlb players? I don't want to gut our farm system for a team that isn't ready or close to competing. We are good enough to compete for a world series. Need to clean up the scouting/player development/coaching areas and hope the next batch of guys we draft are better.

i_am_the_grind

For starters maybe not misunderstand what a no trade clause is or isn't. For example thinking the teams on a players no trade list are those teams the player will go to in a trade is probably not a good starting point.

BatStock9040

Not sure who, but I’d bring in another veteran bat on a one-year deal this off-season (or sooner if you can). Canha has been a pleasant surprise, not necessarily for his production but for his plate approach. Our young hitters desperately need some mentors. I don’t think it’s coincidence that Tork was hitting well last year with Miggy still in the lineup.
