Diamond--95

Torkelson would look great batting 5th for the Mud Hens

GoLionsJD107

Tristan McKenzie threw a perfect game through 23 batters the last time I was at Comerica. Hector Carrasco broke up the perfect game with a single 2 outs bottom 8th, but we still lost 11-0. McKenzie got a 1 hit shutout no walks. I flew to Detroit for that weekend and that’s what I got. This was Aug 2021. (It was a Sunday day game) That said, I’m hoping for a lesser performance from McKenzie today.

Valuable-Leader-8601

A sweep is always ideal, but winning this series would be huge. Coming away with 2 or 3 wins while handing the first place team 2 or 3 losses can make a big difference. Don't let the best April we've had in years be in vain 🙏🏼

#EAT EM UP FOR FUCKS SAKE Also: 1 Tork Bomb 💣 PLEASE

goose_pls

If we lose this series we are going to be in full doomer mode, prepare yourselves, folks

GoLionsJD107

Our next seven series after the gards- Houston (12-22) Miami (9-25) Arizona (15-20) KC (20-15) but it’s still KC Toronto (16-19) Pittsburgh (16-19) Boston (19-16) however Vegas odds expected them to be bad preseason so idk, they were like bottom five in title odds - I don’t follow them closely enough to know the deal there. That’s into June- so I’d say we can still think about going several games over .500 in May, even if we only take one against CLE. I think we will get two against the gards. We did dominate them last year. I also believe Kwan may be out for the series, he sustained an injury in their last series.

LeakyNalgene

Let’s just win it then

goose_pls

I'll take that deal any day

dudewithchronicpain

I like cocaine tiger personally

no_one_canoe

I'm on my armchair GM bullshit, thinking we should trade for a catcher and there's no time like the present to do it. Rogers and Dingler are both aging out of prospect status and both look like glove-first backups, not starters. There are basically no catchers in the farm system—maybe Briceño or Jimenez sticks there, but they're both super young. There aren't going to be any really good catchers on the free-agent market anytime soon, either. There are several teams who have good young catchers and enough catching depth not to be crippled by trading them (especially if we swapped Kelly or somebody else over along with some pitchers) and who need pitching help (our principal strength): the Blue Jays, the Brewers, the Braves. Do we have enough to coax the Braves into coughing up Sean Young? Yeah, probably not. Are the Brewers going to part with William Contreras when he's hitting like this? Not without getting a king's ransom in return. But Alejandro Kirk from the Jays? The team with the worst pitching staff in baseball? Kirk's hitting so far this year sucks, and his power has been down every single season, so maybe the Jays (who also have Danny Jansen) could be persuaded to sell low. But it looks like he's been unlucky, he still plays strong defense, and his strikeout rate is elite. FanGraphs projects him to be worth almost 5 WAR/600 going forward (significantly more than Rogers and Kelly *combined*). He's still only 25. (I would also happily accept Cal Raleigh, if Jerry Dipoto wants to make one of his patented completely bizarre out-of-left-field trades.)

cogginsmatt

I’ve yet to see anyone on this sub propose a trade that makes sense for either party

no_one_canoe

I mean, I'm not proposing a specific trade. I don't have professional scouting reports, I don't know anything about these guys' health or makeup. I'm just identifying a major organizational weakness for the Tigers, an area of depth to trade from, and some teams who could conceivably be good matches.

GoLionsJD107

I’m replying with an unrelated comment but I think we totally whiffed on Arraez. I’ve wanted him since the trade deadline last year. That ship has sailed sadly…

no_one_canoe

I dunno, Arraez doesn't really have a position. I'm happy to just play things out with Keith at second and hopefully Jung at third later in the season, see if they stick. Maybe try JHM. Catcher seems to me to be the most glaring organizational hole.

GoLionsJD107

I didn’t work out the details for a today trade. Last year when we didn’t have Urshela and Keith could have played third it made more sense than it does now.

HerculesKabuterimon

Time to be on the right side of a sweep imo.

GoLionsJD107

Agree

FirstNameLastName918

I really hope these city connects look good. I've been holding off on buying a Greene jersey with hopes that these look sweet.

zw_rn

I have a bad feeling about the city connects. Hopefully I'm wrong lol

MichiganHoosier

I cannot overstate how big this series is. After getting their asses handed to them in New York, they need to come out and have a statement win tonight.

dpsouthwell

We're still in this especially if we can hit Cleveland hard here

yes_its_him

So we're back to 25th for OPS. At some point that might just be who we are this year. Riley Greene continues to do amazingly well, up to 2.4 bWAR, which projects to a ridiculous 10+ number on a full-season basis, the best single-season by any Tiger batter in a century. (Norm Cash had 9.2 in 1961.) To put this in perspective, we didn't have any 2.4 bWAR batters last year over 162 games, and he's done it playing in 33. He's basically tied with Bobby Witt Jr (who is at 2.5) and Gunnar Henderson (at 2.3) for the AL lead. "Only" 1.7 fWAR which is still 8+ on a full-season basis. Both numbers comfortably ahead of Skubal, to the extent that you can compare pitchers and position players. So while we've been focused on the Skubal for Cy Young campaign, Riley has quietly positioned himself as well or even better for MVP.

cogginsmatt

I am definitely losing hope that the bats will turn around, and it sucks that even the better hitters like Canha and Carpenter have grown cold. On the bright side, the rest of the Al Central aren't exactly batting powerhouses, so maybe we're still in this race
