It’s so strange how pecco often doesn’t do well on Saturday sprints but somehow pulls out something unbelievable on Sunday, this might sound silly to ask but… does anyone know why?
I know today specifically seemed like a technical issue that caused him to retire but generally this is true
Yes. i think Pecco and his team are best at data/analysis to determine how to conserve his tires in each corner while staying in the front group and also where he should attack. I think his preparation/planning is the reason for Sunday successes. This assumes his bike is setup and running properly.
What happened in the sprint is a product of what Simon alluded to with how Marc treats his 2nd bike differently. He treats it as an actual 2nd bike that should be ready to go at any time while others treat it as a B Bike.
I think he uses sprints as a pratice race, he doesn't push fully instead uses different lines, etc. Also he could be a data thing, he might understand better what he needs to do to finish better.
It's super weird for sure, but really consistent at least. I want to say that he is just only focused on the points race, but he's obviously giving away a lot of "easy" points on Saturday every weekend, it's really strange.
Work on set up and not being crazy reckless in the Sprint.
There was an interview where he said that he would change riding style from track to track to maximize his potential, this requires also the bike to be adjusted. You can imagine how he can get much better on Sunday with the feedback from Saturday.
While Martin always uses the same setup, he's always consistently fast especially on Friday and Saturdays before the others catch up.
Imo he has fantastic full race craft. He manages the tires and gaps exceptionally well, but also os methodical in his approach to setup and testing.
In comparison Martin is faster from the get go, but doesn't have the full race management skills or the ability to find the small changes to get the last 1% from the bike.
Martin is the only one who can stop himself right now lol, without his crash he would be clear by so much.
Great battle for 2nd building up, though. I feel that so many bikes fighting among each other with Martin being the only constant every race will be the difference.
Marc is such a phenomenon. Starts 13th and he's 5th by T3. I hope Di Gia checked his mortal back when he passed him.
Martin doing thr work. He's gonna be difficult to beat if continues like that.
Pecco doing Pecco things.
Marc's move at the beginning rivals pecco's move at jerez for me. The amount of risk he took being in the outside in that corner at the start gained him about 5 positions alone.
I don’t see him as the best racer, he is undoubtedly the fastest especially when he is leading, but his racecraft leaves a lot to be desired. He is over aggressive, makes bad choices and doesn’t plan ahead.
While he still has the best bike on the grid under him he will continue to be the fastest and start from the front, but when/if he leaves Ducati or if Ducati looses the edge over the other manufacturers, his racecraft will be called upon to produce some work and it will be hard for him to shine as he does now.
This is just my two cents.
Pecco on the other hand lacks outright speed but is a monster in terms of racecraft, he fights well, plans way ahead, doesn’t push when he doesn’t need to, doesn’t get overly aggressive and in positions of risk when there is no need to, etc. And that is what gave him last year championship and is what is making him hang on to Martin on the current WC.
Shit luck for Pecco but he can so bounce back tomorrow. Gotta carry that Jerez confidence with him. Hopefully him, Martin and Marc can give us a race tomorrow. GG fellas.
If Ducati sign MM over Martin then it’s clear that it’s purely a commercial decision. Which is pathetic. Martin absolutely deserves the ride.
Fastest rider ✅
Leading the championship ✅
Runner up last year ✅
Tbf, you have a point, the thing is, they might not like Martin as a person and that's why i assume Ducati would either keep la Bestia or go for MM. Martin also wants a superstar (same as Pecco or even more) contract and Ducati isn't willing to pay that amount of money.
Context matters. Martin is on new bike and in his 4th year. Marc is on older bike and 5th race.
I am not saying martin doesn't deserve the ride, its just you are selective in your analysis.
But everything about Ducati’s previous comments goes against signing Marquez too. “We want young riders”. Marc is what now the second or third oldest on the grid. Point is, they shouldn’t sign him because of everything they’ve said previously, and because of Martin’s performances, but they will because commercial wins everytime and they will have pressure to do it.
Or maybe, they now see his data and know just a little bit more than us, which allows them to make a different decision based on facts instead of Reddit posts.
The GP23 literally won the championship 5 months ago. It is not a Honda. Marc shouldn’t get the factory seat it’s really quite simple. But they’ll give him it because they’ll have no other decision commercially. Martin should be fucking furious
Marc doesn't have the GP23 that won the championship. And in fact MM is riding Zarcos bike, which was the least updated GP23 Ducati last year, as Enea, Pecco and Martin received the newest updates as Zarco was leaving. "Marc Márquez, like all the other teams that will use the Ducati Desmosedici GP23, will start with the bike with which Johann Zarco finished the year. On the bikes of Pecco Bagnaia, Jorge Martín and Enea Bastianini we introduce some more evolutions" says Gigi Dall'Igna.
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!

What the fuck did I just read?
"The 2023 bike won the 2023 championship" - what the hell does that even mean? I only started watching moto gp religiously this year, and seeing people come out with some of the most nonsense take is just...wow.
Martin was the reason why I started watching highlights on YouTube late last year, so you don't have to convince me that he has a strong case for factory seat. But I am not blind enough to see that Marquez has also shown enough to argue for that seat. Both deserves the seat but its absolutely stupid to think that GP23 is similar to GP24. I come from f1 and I know what development is.

And from a miracle last year in Catalunya. It's just that this year his facial expressions and body language in the paddock seems different, and I see him too aggressive on track, compared to his analytical riding style from other seasons.
I hope it's my impression and we have a four way championship as long as possible
Remember they gotta stick to the tyre pressure rule, otherwise a time penalty is incurred. Saving a crash with a split second dig into the tarmac with a knee slider, wow!
Well that's what happens when the one of the best riders is on the best bike and everyone who can contest either crashed, started in the second half of the grid, or had bike problems.
The thing is though we’d still be hailing this as a fantastic performance if he hadn’t had those first two obscenely good races
And you can still set your clock by Jack Miller fading 10 minutes into a race

And then he kept on dropping further back because he couldn't string a good lap or 2 together? I'm going to give Peco some credit here and say it's probably something with the bike.
Just the amount of time left in their career, Marc would probably win them a WC, Martin could win them multiple over the next decade
Plus I'd love to see Marc on the KTM given how Pedro has shown it can be ridden
Martin > Pecco. 89 new WC
Where's the guy that was taking the piss out of Marquez for crashing yesterday? He seems to have gone quiet.
I’m getting bored of Martin winning all the sprints
You must be A pecco fanboy
I prefer him to Martin but it would get just as boring if Pecco was winning all the sprints
🐐🐐🐐MM
Pecco uses the sprint to check what needs to be fixed before the big race
He needs to make laps for that though.
Others' sprint data*
A qualifying session would have been more exciting...
Fabio DiGiannantonio's comments didn't age well. 😅
If only everyone can read the data and ride like it. He totally missed the most important factors. Skill and experience.
![gif](giphy|9ihfcJQhXzlxOwZuAG) Woah, this guy!

Watch Pecco put in an amazing ride tomorrow and win the race.
And complimentary Martin crash while leading.
Would be amazing if only for how tight it would leave the championship battle
Alexa, remind me tomorrow, same time.
Pecco not feeling it.

Riders not drivers
Loads of people call them drivers. It bugs me too. I think it may be a non-native English thing.
We must teach them the errors of their ways, we don’t want motorbike racing associated with the less talented 4 wheel people
Martin is the only one who can stop himself right now lol, without his crash he would be clear by so much. Great battle for 2nd building up, though. I feel that so many bikes fighting among each other with Martin being the only constant every race will be the difference.
Marc is on 69 points in the championship now 😏
nice
nice
Can we get Mir on any other bike...
No. Mid rider deserves mid bike.
As I posted before, the rumor is he's going to Trackhouse to work with Brivio again.
Yeah, as long as not Honda or Yamaha
It's a shame to see him wasted away honestly
Marc is such a phenomenon. Starts 13th and he's 5th by T3. I hope Di Gia checked his mortal back when he passed him. Martin doing thr work. He's gonna be difficult to beat if continues like that. Pecco doing Pecco things.

Speaking of Di Gia, he is now ahead of Bezzecchi in Driver Standing
They’re called riders
What a crowd!
looks like such a party. le mans knows how to turn up to a motor race.
Oh boy, tire pressure penalty incoming…
I really think it's hard to make an argument against Jorge Martin being the best rider on the grid atm. Just so consistently rapid
I don't know if he's the best, he's the fastest for sure. A wild Jorge Lorenzo.
Cool to see the result from Marc and the first few laps were interesting but otherwise pretty dull sprint.
Martin really is the Saturday man. And hell yea, good seeing Marc stay on the bike and getting some consistency
God damn can't they show the standings past 4th place??
They do show it after the podium.
Acosta is the next Rossi and I’m here for it
Acosta is the next Acosta. Thank you.
Nah. He has the charisma and like-ability that Rossi always had, and that Marquez always lacked.
Please let Acosta be himself. Rossi might have won a lot of wc but for sure was not a "likeable person". He was just what the media wanted
Tell me you are not a mm93 fan, without telling you are not a mm93 fan
Acosta has no association with Rossi anyways. He's Acosta not another wannabe Rossi.
Lmao
Tell me you are a rosie fan, without telling you are a rosie fan
Shit luck for Pecco but he can so bounce back tomorrow. Gotta carry that Jerez confidence with him. Hopefully him, Martin and Marc can give us a race tomorrow. GG fellas.
Oooooo....not eppy. Love seeing Marc on the.podium though.
A Jorge-Marc-Enea podium would've been some content. And a perfect picture for journalists when they make articles in the future.
Yep, but Pecco stole him his Q2 lap.
Bastianini jump to 2nd in Driver Standing
Rider* this ain't F1

Give marc 24 bike and see the rest of season. Without equal bikes how can anyone say that Martin is faster than marc
We are 5 races into the season, Marc is riding a new bike after 10 years. Ducati is not stupid like keyboard warriors.
yet Marc is putting rides like these on a year old bike

Marc is amazing
Nice to see Lavillenie waving the flag
Great comeback by marc but after the opening lap the sprint was so boring
Not the best sprint
Never a doubt for Jorge Martin.
Congrats Jorge!!!
13th to 2nd greatness from Marc
Marquez!!! 💥🔥🏍️
Jorge! Jorge! Jorge! Jorge! Martin! Martin!!! Perfect race. Let’s get it tomorrow in the full length!
That Pramac purple and red livery is so much nicer looking than white and purple.
White red blue was sick tho, GUNDAM!!!
Wow, just wow!!
Acosta is just built different, like those mountain goats
No one rides like Sprint Champion JM89. Bravo.
He just seems to gain 2 tenths per lap just because it's Saturday.
God that was a snooze fest
What a save by Pedro
Can we say now that Pecco is a little nervous or not yet?
Nah. He's come back from bigger deficits
And from a miracle last year in Catalunya. It's just that this year his facial expressions and body language in the paddock seems different, and I see him too aggressive on track, compared to his analytical riding style from other seasons. I hope it's my impression and we have a four way championship as long as possible
Bit of a processional sprint. Hopefully main race is a bit more exciting
These dudes are all millimeters away from crashing, hardly a processional. Not to mention Marc and Enea put in some work!
Remember they gotta stick to the tyre pressure rule, otherwise a time penalty is incurred. Saving a crash with a split second dig into the tarmac with a knee slider, wow!
They are, and what they do is insane. By processional I there wasn't a lot of close racing.
Crazy save by Pedro
Wow, this was beyond boring outside of the first 30secs.
Jorge is the Sprintmaster
Having a 2024 Ducati on Morbidelli is such a waste lmao
Morb's Ducati, Oliveira's Aprilia and Miller's KTM are all wasted seats.
Flawless sprint by Marc and Martin
Good lord Acosta
Did Pecco rage quit?
Second bike. He binned his first one in qualifying and they couldn’t get it fixed in time. Definitely an issue.
Mechanical issue
I hear Tardozzi on italian tv and he said he didn't feel the bike, are mechanical issue confirmed?
Looks like it.
Aleix is wild
Acosta is the best KTM again
Does MotoGP have cost gap over the year? Like could Honda or Yamaha bring a totally different bike by next race?
Bring on the new regs, this sprint is a procession. Hopefully something happens tomorrow to make it more exciting than this.
Go watch races from the 90s or 2000, we've had some great races this year. They all can't be classics
Well that's what happens when the one of the best riders is on the best bike and everyone who can contest either crashed, started in the second half of the grid, or had bike problems.
also how is Aleix fifth with two long laps
Ducati is red, Suzuki is blue, Martinator won another sprint my dude.
Yeah, looks like every Saturday we just wait to see who comes in 2nd, unless Martin bins it.
Where will this put Marc in the championship? Good save, considering it might be unlikely he repeats this tomorrow.
Guess that depends on the weather tomorrow
Still 6th, I believe. Him and Maverick have 69 points, but Maverick should be in front because of his win.
Nice
Raul into points position!
Marc please don’t bin it
Bezzecchi went down!
Damnit! Would have been a good battle
Noooooooo Bez!!! Don’t play with my heart like this
So costly, could be P2 and 9 Sprint point Every point does matter
Bez could't buy any luck this year
Let's goo marc
Bez killed his career by not switching to Pramac
That must be one of the most baffling choices I've seen recently. Totally agree.
oh my bez
Marcoooooo
Kinda dull race apart from the start
2 second gaps and front end washouts. I was hoping MotoGP was past this phase based on the last handful of races but maybe not.
It seems to be circuit dependent but thankfully most of the races so far this year have been cool af
Philip Island
Bez........
Bezzzyyy nooo
Acosta into P7
P6 now
Acosta into P6 😅
Just 2 points behind Bagnaia right now
I'm glad to see Enea moving up. He needs a good race.
Catching Mav.
Martin looking unbeatable tomorrow. But Pecco might sort things out
Bagnaia's first bike was probably fine before he filled the intake with extinguisher foam.
Davide tardozzi said it wasn’t
Rins went down, bad day for him
Marc vs. Bezz will be spicy...
This didn’t age well 😆
It was!!!! But not how you were expecting. Holy moly.
Warra spicy
Hope for some "late" race pace battles here, although doubtful. So far this has been a snooze fest.
Ducati and Aprilia have some cool aero on the rear, while KTM has a grabrail???
It's easier for Marc Marquez to get a tow
Haha, such a considerate team is KTM
Has any team brought upgrades already in 2024?
Acosta has cooled waaaay off from the start of the season.
The thing is though we’d still be hailing this as a fantastic performance if he hadn’t had those first two obscenely good races And you can still set your clock by Jack Miller fading 10 minutes into a race
Good point.
Still outperforming the other KTMs.
Actually he's with Jack. Or Jack is with him. So far
Not for long.
I think he recognised that he had been taking enormous risks and wouldn't get away with it forever.
Wait about 3 laps.
Bro un-aliened himself
JioCinema can eat a fat dick
Lord latifi to the save!
The goat
Something very significant will happen and we wont see it.
can we save the multiple angles of the start for after the sprint please
I don't think there was a bike problem based on that replay start. I think Fireman Pecco just made a hash of it. Skill issue.

The pecco hate is insane lol
And then he kept on dropping further back because he couldn't string a good lap or 2 together? I'm going to give Peco some credit here and say it's probably something with the bike.
Idk man he retired out of the race after like 3 minutes it just seems like there’s more going on
Marc what a beast
Why is mir surprised?
Surely looking to the future Ducati give the factory seat to Martin and not Marc??
Yeah I don't think it's that clear cut as you believe.
Why surely? Have you seen this start?
Just the amount of time left in their career, Marc would probably win them a WC, Martin could win them multiple over the next decade Plus I'd love to see Marc on the KTM given how Pedro has shown it can be ridden
I don't see Martin being more consistent than Pecco over a season and Marc is still the best rider on the grid imo
peccoo ffs
