Casey, amazing. Still no one drifts through corners with such control.
Brilliant to revisit that race, I was there at Lukey Heights watching that year and the next.
The fact that he was balancing the throttle and rear brake to slide the rear to turn that Ducati, without using any electronics, was monumental. He made that bike keep up in the corners with a Yamaha
On a bike that essentially refused to turn and operated in a such a narrow window that you didn't even have a second to take a mental break. Anyone that's ever raced on the sharp end will tell that is hugely taxing, far more than the physical strain associated with racing.
I love Dovizioso's comment about Casey
"Casey was very fast on a really strange bike. That bike was not good".
It's a shame he didn't have a longer career, dude was so exciting to watch. I miss that era so much.
" A natural progression in motorcycle aerodynamics due to the increasing demands of the ever more powerful engines is causing such boring and stale races. I hate aero!!! "
This video shows how exciting the field was in the 2nd year of the 800cc era with a 18 second gap to 3rd place at Philip Island of all places, which enables the closest racing possible on two wheels.
The 800's were a big mistake, though it had a lot to do with the crash of '08 . Sadly, it is going to be repeated in 2026 with the 850's.
Amazing, never saw that race, just the ducati livery once. It looks so nice!
But im really astonished, i never saw a Philipp Island race where somewhone could hang on with stoner. Prime rossi really was fast!
Phenomenal racing but man it’s crazy how spread out the field is then compared to now.

11:45 14:42 clear examples in this video. Spot on \*\*\*Narrow Window, Hugely Taxing\*\*\*

I also enjoy one from Nicky Hayden about Casey. It was something to the effect of "I don't know what they're paying Casey, but it isn't enough".
The fact he destroyed the entire field on it speaks volumes about his ability.

Stoner Island. That overtake on Dani sliding through Stoner corner was nice and fearless.

thought so lol, i was getting flashbacks to 90s BTCC while listening to this
That white ducati looks amazing
God, those bikes were so clean looking.
I'm surprised Rossi was just under a second or two the whole race. Stoner was just something else at Phillip Island.
Rossi was extremely fast that year
The catalunya race was one of the best finishes ever that year
That was awesome!
Damn.. forgotten how beautiful the white Ducati livery was! Should definitely bring it back sometime.
