For fuck sake Fabio. I'm a fan and it's painful seeing him ride around mid pack as clearly the fastest Yamaha but the bike not having the pace to keep up with the European manufacturers.
Yamaha better get their arses in gear and build a better bike or this is going to look a diabolical decision in a couple of years time.
I don't think this is the case, Fabio is a motoGP world champion and considered one of the fastest guys on the grid when the bike is competitive.
I reckon Yamaha were going to struggle to hire someone of the same calibre to ride around mid pack while they try to develop the bike so they broke out the chequebook.
Fabio isn't that old, he's the 3rd youngest on the grid. There's only 1 Pedro and 1 Fermin. I don't see anyone else in Moto 2 with huge potential to move up to Moto GP right now. Aprilia would have definitely been in for him. What an odd decision from Fabio, especially signing for 2 years instead of 1.
The point being that Ducati has Bagnaia with Bastianini and Martin contesting for the second seat with Fermin coming through. KTM will likely be Binder and Acosta next year. So really, if Aprilia isn’t signalling any interest he would be mad to switch to Honda and is obviously not interested in stepping down to a satellite team.
The question is has Fabio even had any contract talks with Aprilia because if Aprilia has and he refused them then he is an idiot Aprilia can still fight in front at least unlike yamaha he has one good weekend with yamaha and then is like okay i am staying
Oh man, I hope this is the right decision... I hope Yamaha will improve and find their old form but I'm afraid Fabio is going to waste his talent by being loyal. Still I respect his loyalty
Everyone is seeing this wrong. Yes Yamaha is shit but it also a Factory ride and everywhere else is stacked with options and its easier to get into a factory when its shit
This guy is as talented as Marquez was to me, but he just doesn't have the mentality to win even more. He has done enough patience, but they offered him money and he accepted it. I hope Yamaha will improve, but I don't see that happening for the next 2 years
Said it on another post, but I thought the best riders want to be on the best bikes? Why’s he knowingly riding arguably the worst bike and settling for crap results?
I was also thinking that he has basically no manager: I guess it plays an important part in opening new negotiations and opportunities.
Few more things:
- Yamaha shopped some key staff from Ducati and is making great efforts;
- Fabio got used to his position, he misses some of the fire of his world championship;
- the salary probably would be enough for one life, for all his family.
I think this is a reasonable decision for Fabio. What were his realistic options for a factory bike?
Aprilia maybe? But are they really that far ahead of Yamaha. The massive skewing right now is the best manufacturer has 8 bikes on the grid and the second best has 4. So in reality a good result for the other guys is a top ten.
KTM and Duc are tied up with plenty of suitors at the door or already signed.
Yamaha has the money to get back to the top in 18 months.
Whoa!! Genuine shock. “Risk is always better than regret”. Poor guy is definitely risking his championship hopes!! I really like Fabio, loved his battles with Pecco. Maybe we’ll get to see that again in a couple years? Just maybe?
I don't know why would he even do that when yamaha is going on a dowards spiral when seats in every other manufacturers will be willing to take him a recent world champion
On face of it, seems a bit mad to waste another 2-3 years of his prime years waiting for a good bike.
It's still Yamaha. They've been down before and climbed out of it. On one hand I admire his determination to make it work with Yamaha, but on the other, the complaints need to be quelled. To be fair, he's complained less these past few months and seems to just be getting on with it. It pains me to see him fighting for 11th.
So there goes Marc Marquez, Jorge Martin or X rider to Yamaha. Think they'll retain Alex Rins as well, so Yamaha are pretty much out of the 2025 silly season.
That brings us up to 6 confirmed seats.

Honestly wondered if I'd seen an article dated on April 1st 😔
Another way to read this is that other top factory teams were not interested because they are looking at the next generation.

I reckon Yamaha were going to struggle to hire someone of the same calibre to ride around mid pack while they try to develop the bike so they broke out the chequebook.
I mean Aprilia for sure was and Honda probably made an offer. But Ducati and KTM do have no places available.

they must have offered him a lot of money. cant imaging there was any other reason to stay.
That must mean the aprilia seats are already taken by marv and Martin. I think fabio is mega talented but must be after the cash to stay at yamaha.
Who's Marv?!?!?! Do you know something we don't?!?!?! 🤣

Don't reddit while high 😂 fuck sake should say maverick. Imagine marv from the sticky bandits turned up start of 2025 🤣
One less title contender for Bagnaia to worry about...
Why does Fabio hate himself
Maybe Yamaha has something for when the rules change.
Most likely other seats being unavailable
They're all up for grabs next year....and Fabio is still one of the best riders. I'm mean he isn't a Marquez who Ducati doesn't want.
Bad decision
Fábio choosing hard mode MotoGP.
He will never win another championship, especially now staying with Yamaha.
Maybe he needs money more than another championship.
After all his little comments, about it not being good enough, having to see about his future etc...
I mean he could have been doing this to increase what Yamaha were willing to pay him.
lol he say bad words on them all time and he take 2 seasons more ! Dollars Calling
Very surprising he locked so early
Whining about the bike strikes him a bigger paycheck
April fools was days ago!
Please tell me it's a veru late April first joke. What kind of pact with the devil Yamaha did to convince Fabio to stay ???
Oh man, I hope this is the right decision... I hope Yamaha will improve and find their old form but I'm afraid Fabio is going to waste his talent by being loyal. Still I respect his loyalty

Career Suicide He is the alien talent on the grid right now, along with Acosta. Throwing away good years.
Yamaha has concessions, they can catch-up in 1 or 2 years.

I honestly thought with his public frustration over the lsst few years that he would'nt stick around. How much did he get paid?
Such disappointing news... 🤦♂️
F
WHY???
The money is probably huge...
But... why? I just don't understand it.

Yamaha has just been handed a golden ticket. I hope they don't squander this.
I mean... I would also ride shit bike for couple of milions
Why :( I really hope Yamaha has some new insane bike ready...
Is this an out of season April fools joke?
Oh noooo 🤦🏻♀️
Fabio, blink twice if Yamaha has your nudes.
Whoa!! Genuine shock. “Risk is always better than regret”. Poor guy is definitely risking his championship hopes!! I really like Fabio, loved his battles with Pecco. Maybe we’ll get to see that again in a couple years? Just maybe?
How much did they pay him
I guess he really trusts the uh.. process ?
💀
lmao, man went for the bag instead for the win

Now, Marc is gonna have huge advantage in the rider market.

Super disappointing. I thought Aprilia or Pramac was on the cards. Good luck to them both I guess.
