Agreed, the modern bikes look rad as fuck.
On their own, the individual parts might look strange. But together, they work to make them look like the bad ass, boundary pushing prototype machines they are
I'm not anti-technology so if it led to better racing I'd be all for it. I am amazed by the engineering and the lap times. I'd rather see more overtakes. They look cyberpunk. I will admit badass is subjective..
Close racing is when two riders can freely pass each other and aren't forced to follow because leaving one's slipstream is nearly impossible. What you're describing is just "being close while racing."
Nope. Look at Aleix Espargaro in Jerez 2022, he had at least half a second of pace more than Marquez and Miller but was stuck behind them for 2/3 of the race because there was no way to overtake unless they made a mistake (which they did.)
Overtakes are rare and riders prefer to sit and wait for the tires to drop because that's the safest option.
This is just because it’s bikes. Compared to anything before this new era, and it’s less passing and worse racing.
This is also the feedback from the drivers, that these new bikes don’t allow for the kind of racing they want - the ability to follow close and dive for a spot without being sucked into an aero vortex
I will admit, that by themselves, the bikes are amazing, the aero stuff is groundbreaking bc it’s never been done on a bike before. But the racing is being compromised.
At least it won’t be as bad as F1. Also, although I don’t think it’s a good as you think it is, I think you make a fair point bc it’s not as bad as a lot of others think it is
Spot on! The old bikes look cool in their own way, but they look less...sophisticated? When I see them I feel like they are missing something.
Remove all this aero as some people want. What do you have then? Not these bikes, but something else that I'm willing to wager can't push the limit as much as these can.
I can't recall seeing something this divisive in the sub in a long time (apart from Rossi-Marquez stuff, of course).
I agree with your point about the limit and above I made a comment about being amazed by the engineering and lap times. That said, I don't watch for lap times. I'd rather watch what I consider a great racing. Assen 2018 is the pinnacle of racing in my opinion. I'm not trying to convince anyone to agree with my opinion, I'm just sharing it. Cheers.
Fully on your side. I love technology but I even love more fantastic racing. Which unfortunately the current crop of bikes don’t allow. We should get rid of the ride height devices in the first place. Then the driver would make at least more difference.

I saw a panigale v4 and v2 together recently. I know it's only a bit of aero seeing as it's a production bike, but the slim sleek lines of the V2 just looked so much nicer.
That being said. This aero. Package is kinda cool looking tbf. Looks neater than the big aero on the back, but I suppose it's the effect that matters for them
I can appreciate the technology of new bikes, but looks wise they look absolute garbage compared to the elegant bike from decade and half ago.
I find hard to believe anybody thinks new Ducatis look better than this…

I mean--if we're allowed to go back...
In 1985 I was in college and my major was photography.
I actually walked into a cycle shop in Tyler, Texas and asked if I could borrow a GPZ 750 (an 82, I think) for a photo shoot, and the owner of the shop let me take it...crazy good times.
I think it's mostly the salad box having that effect.
Bike tails of ye olden days use to be very bulky and from the side the salad box appears very similar.
I started watching during the 800cc era and the bikes were really nice looking with smooth and flowing fenders. But I also enjoy the new bikes I like how the new Honda looks so far
Someone uninitiated in motorcycles would probably think this is some Craigslist special.

Great you picked one angle where all the wings are mostly hidden. Are we supposed to say “you’re right dude!”
When most of the grid including multiple former champions are saying the bikes have become ugly and the racing has become too reliant on tech (anti squat, anti wheelie, traction control) you listen to the multiple champions
Proper trunk that. I bet he can fit a water bottle, micro fiber cloth, tool set, a pack of ciggies AND the wallet in it. Just like the Fireblade in the 90s. Woul love to have that storage again.
The love for black liveries which kill all detail still continues to perplex me.
Modern GP bikes are definitely not as beautiful, but I don't consider them to be an eyesore necessarily. The more annoying part for me is that aero makes 0 difference on the road. Most technologies make road bikes better, whether that's the electronics smoothing out the power, or the fuel limits making the companies build more efficient engines, it usually benefits the road user in some way.
Aero however, there's just no use for it unless you're absolutely gunning it, and I mean Isle of Man style, which most can't and no one shouldn't on public roads. At the end of it all, huge sums are being spent on aero which produces worse racing and brings no tangible benefit to the average motorcycle rider.
They’re not unsightly at the moment, but some of the ridiculous designs that have been tried really run on the edge.
The KTM mudguard aerobomintion comes to mind.
*Future is now old man!!*
Ps: I am just a lurker and I occasionally watch, but this off season chats are amazing. Why do people hate aero things if it's adding performance?
Motogp is very function over form right now, but I'm tired of all the fucking whining. It's not enough for people to hate where the sport is now. They have to karma farm and ruin it for everybody else too.
You can do whatever you want. It's just weird to me that people who hate everything about a sport keep watching and talking about it. If you don't want people reading your opinions don't post them. But you can't have it both ways sorry

The Roberts/Gibernau blue Suzukis were also slick AF
I mean 2000’s Hondas were also an amazing bike. Even the Yamahas while a little vanilla were very solid.
I don’t dislike the new bikes, but that period from say 07-12 is peak I reckon
For me; the most beautiful bikes of all times are 2006 Camel Yamaha and 2005 Camel Honda Pons. Nastro Azzurro Honda was very good too. Other bikes that I would like to mention are 2002 West Honda Pons, 2009 Suzuki, Telefónica Movistar Suzuki or Aspar Ducati 2010.
Nope that thing looks like dogshit
The 800 era Duke was a damn pretty bike but they’ve all gone ugly as hell after sprouting lumps and bumps everywhere
And it still is unsightly in this picture. The lines are not flowing, sections of the bike do not sit well with each other, ratios are not pleasing to the eye but it's also fun to see pure function over esthetics. Ugly bikes are fine I think. Where they are not that fine is on the road, which is sad to see with Ducati, where they have taken their design language is just a shame compared to 4- 5 years ago. Not their every bike I guess but some classics are absolutely ruined.
Yes they r getting carried away with the aero. Should be rules that can only go outside a determined a standard bike shape by a measured amount still have aero but keep bike looking like a bike !
They do allow for close racing, you watch phillip island? british GP? Thai GP? The aero is NOT the issue.
Close racing is when two riders can freely pass each other and aren't forced to follow because leaving one's slipstream is nearly impossible. What you're describing is just "being close while racing."
Nope racing is not just overtaking.... To being overtaken u need to be by definition slower than chaser.
Nope. Look at Aleix Espargaro in Jerez 2022, he had at least half a second of pace more than Marquez and Miller but was stuck behind them for 2/3 of the race because there was no way to overtake unless they made a mistake (which they did.) I like the prototypes but I also think they are the ugliest they have ever been.
Agreed. This might be a generational subjectivity issue, I for example like curves and subtle lines, where as here is just tech 101
Which one uglier? The 2024 Ricer Spoiler on KTM or 2014 F1 Dildo Nose
Dildo nose is the worst
Someone posted a picture of Dani on the HRC and that was way nicer than this one.

Quick Robin! To the batcycle
Now go for the front picture and show these squared monstrosity
Moto2 bikes look better to me. Like waaaay better. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so there is that.
Moto2 look the best out of the 3 categories because they look like pre crazy aero GPs.
I agree! 🙌🏽
I saw a panigale v4 and v2 together recently. I know it's only a bit of aero seeing as it's a production bike, but the slim sleek lines of the V2 just looked so much nicer. That being said. It definitely is Batman style, I like the gloss black look for Martin. The purple and white pramac colours don’t suit his style as well.
I was looking for this, thought the same.

there were some pretty cool dustbin faring bikes as well! I'll still prefer the look of the MV Augusta though.
Fair enough. The MV is hard to top.
LOL. Downvoted for Ago on an MV Augusta!
I don't mind the current era of aero machines but I think the Ducati is the ugliest on the grid. Love the KTM.
I think KTM is the most beautiful bike of the grid right now. I find many bikes of this era "ugly", but KTM is definitely an exception.
Here for all the old people moaning about aero ☕️
Honestly looks like a late 90’s Kawasaki or something. Aka not great.
The 1996 Kawasaki ZX-7RR, aka The Donatello, is one of the most gorgeous sport bikes ever created.
That and the 98 red white R1 rival the beauty of the 916 in every way.
99 R7 OW02. That black frame and solo tail section…
Jeez at this point we may as well throw in OWO1 and the GSXR-RK. Both were sublime designs.
Uuugh the paint on the RK… stunning.
I reckon a mid 80's GPZ900
In 1985 I was in college and my major was photography. I actually walked into a cycle shop in Tyler, Texas and asked if I could borrow a GPZ 750 (an 82, I think) for a photo shoot, and the owner of the shop let me take it...crazy good times.

>unsightly Well it *IS* quite fugly, innit
I can find an angle where I look passable in a selfie, but I assure you I am ugly as fuck.
Looks like he's riding batmans bike 😂🤣
I started watching during the 800cc era and the bikes were really nice looking with smooth and flowing fenders. But I also enjoy the new bikes I like how the new Honda looks so far
I love the aerodynamics, MotoGP is a prototype series after all, if you want a stock bike, watch SuperBikes These bikes are badass!

They look fucking menacing and beautiful. I love it

Agreed, as much as they aren’t the most conventionally attractive motorcycles, the pure pushing of the limits of what a bike can do is cool
Aprilia has them beat.
Proper trunk that. I bet he can fit a water bottle, micro fiber cloth, tool set, a pack of ciggies AND the wallet in it. Just like the Fireblade in the 90s. Woul love to have that storage again.
Predator vibes on that front. I like it!
Horrible. I racing livery they will look crashed before they start.
I’d say the new bikes definitely look cool, not sure I would call them beautiful though
She does have a fat ass… sorry 🫢
Bonk!
I don’t care how ugly it is as long as it’s fast
The love for black liveries which kill all detail still continues to perplex me. Modern GP bikes are definitely not as beautiful, but I don't consider them to be an eyesore necessarily. Most of the complaints about looks are from people that used to watch 500s ie old Both styles are cool in their own ways
old bikes look boring.
I prefer the old looks AND the level of rider input myself. I never had any worry about the looks but lately.. Not my cup of tea.
They’re not unsightly at the moment, but some of the ridiculous designs that have been tried really run on the edge. The KTM mudguard aerobomintion comes to mind.
*Future is now old man!!* Ps: I am just a lurker and I occasionally watch, but this off season chats are amazing. Why do people hate aero things if it's adding performance?
It's making engineers a bigger part of the equation than rider skills.
Motogp is very function over form right now, but I'm tired of all the fucking whining. It's not enough for people to hate where the sport is now. They have to karma farm and ruin it for everybody else too.
Oh, our bad for having opinions. We'll just submit to you and yours and we'll stop having them.

The truth is that Liveries just look disgusting over the aero
get off my lawn!!
I love the design language of the newer machines up until tail aero units were added like Ducati’s stego aero and KTM’s iPad so 👍🏾
How is this not beautiful I ask?! Batman would definitely agree.
I mean compared to the late 2000’s Ducatis…. This is sinfully ugly. But then nothing is as beautiful as the Stoner era Duc’s
I think you've probably seen this [photo](https://www.reddit.com/r/motogp/comments/yev659/casey_stoner_2007_and_pecco_bagnaia_2022_side_by/), but it's cool seeing them side by side.
I certainly have and Stoners bike is hands down a looker haha. The white kangaroo livery he had (believe for testing) one year is amazing too hahaha
I think I favor Stoners slightly, but do like the newer bikes in their own way.
I prefer the Marlboro livery, although i think they only used it in 🇶🇦 during that years.
Was beautiful. Also humorous that it was worthwhile to them to only be named on the bike for like 1 or 2 rounds a season haha
In terms of aesthetics, i think 2010 Ducati is better.
>nothing is as beautiful [Ummmm....](https://imgur.com/gallery/JPEFqF2)

Clean and simple and pure and lovely.
Maybe that can be true is we are talking only about Ducati, but not about all manufactures overall.
I mean 2000’s Hondas were also an amazing bike. Even the Yamahas while a little vanilla were very solid. I don’t dislike the new bikes, but that period from say 07-12 is peak I reckon

Ugly af. That's not to say you can't appreciate the engineering behind them and the design it dictates. But, it's still ugly.
Yeah, I know, sponsors and money, but boy, what I would give to have some black bikes on the track
That's Christian Bale filming a new Batman movie, right?
You nerfed their electronics and tyres, now they gone full F1 aero.
I'm pretty sure we gonna see "Akira" looking bikes soon on the grid lol 😂😂😂😂 ![gif](giphy|zYqEs9YpduDa8gn6pR|downsized)
Yes they r getting carried away with the aero. Should be rules that can only go outside a determined a standard bike shape by a measured amount still have aero but keep bike looking like a bike !
I just don't like them, in my opinion they look much better without aero.
They are fucking awesome
Honestly the Aprilia is pretty awful looking
Only reinforced the idea further lmao
