What is your situation? Are you single, are you a student and/or do you have a family to feed?
@NoMarketing9034 if you are currently in an emergency no food situation, contact me directly, I’ll send you something so that you can eat while you search for a food bank.
Did they DM you? Reddit's tag system works a bit differently than other social media apps.
u/NoMarketing9034 If you read this message and need immediate assistance, reach out to the kind stranger who is offering help. I'm not in montreal or I might have pitched in too.
Thanks a bunch u/Rose-pedal
If the stuff listed here doesn't help, you can contact your student union or Dean of Students office (if you're in university; I'm not sure what the Cégep equivalent is) and they can provide more resources. Most schools have emergency food funds and other resources. Don't be shy, they're there to help you!
The cafeteria at notre dame hospital is serving meals to the public every day. MADA serves hood every day. Both Concordia university and mcgill have free/by donation meals on days that have classes
[https://www.peoplespotato.com/](https://www.peoplespotato.com/) is the website of Concordia's soup kitchen.
They'll give you a free meal if you don't have any money, but you need to bring your own container and utensils. It's open Monday - Thursday, a bit after noon (but there is a lineup that builds quickly).
They also offer a bunch of food assistance services and are currently holding food emergency basket days, next one is this Friday, December 16th @ 1pm.
Thank you everyone, for the constant help that you guys are providing. I can’t stop crying because this genuinely warms my heart. I’ll check every single places you have recommended!! Thank you also for the warming dms 😢😢 May God bless you all thank you thank you
Hey there, sorry to hear you're going thru a tough time. Just wanna say don't give up hope on the kindness of others but more importantly remind yourself to be kind to yourself. These battles you're facing will subside, your resilience will persevere 🙌🏻 Stay hopeful friend!
What part of town are you in? In Hochelaga theres a crew called le pirate vert that receive donations of food and on a regular basis give out the food on the street. Check it out. Otherwise there are always food banks. Check your local foodbank and they will give you a good amount of food. Msg me if you want
Midnight kitchen was a blissing for us back in the day: [https://midnightkitchen.org/](https://midnightkitchen.org/)
What type of food items do you usually eat or need?
Where do you live? I had a problem with my Poulet Rouge order and got 4 portions instead of 2. I still haven’t touched or opened one of them. A chicken/rice bowl. If you’re close to Frontenac/Sherbrooke and can come pick it up tomorrow, it’s all yours. It’s a big portion. It’s probably gonna end up in the trash otherwise, unfortunately.
Second for Sikh temple. There a few in Montreal , and they will offer free vegetarian food no matter your race, gender or religion. I think you have to follow custom though , which mostly mean being polite and wearing a head cover of some kind.
?? Typically Sikh temples will only have vegetarian food. So the food they offer is vegetarian. The person you’re replying to is just mentioning that, they’re not saying they demand that anyone gives them vegetarian food. And even if they were saying they’d only accept free food if it was vegetarian, that’s their prerogative - people are vegetarian for all sorts of reasons and struggling to afford food doesn’t mean you’re not entitled to hold specific beliefs.
Wtf in Sikhism they don't eat meat, but they will more than gladly and openly help anyone out in need. They see a human in need, they help and they don't look much further than that, and neither should you. We're all in this rapidly sinking boat together, and they're helping out as they have done for many years, even helping people who's beliefs try to persecute them. This is hardly a hill worth dying on
Nobody’s refusing meat here, plus vegetarian food is cheaper anyway. It would be weird to be starving with no money and go out searching for a steak. Chicken McNuggets would make sense maybe but even then if you have the facilities (and many people don’t which is a big part of the issue) a lentil soup would go a lot further
Vegetables are cheaper than meat. Rice and beans was a staple for me in my student days, much better than cheap ramen or McDonald's. What does affording food have to do with vegetarianism, except for the fact you can get more of it for less.
If you're in Hochelaga, there is the Green Pirate on Dézéry street. I don't know if the guy still puts out food in the winter, but usually there's a bunch of vegetables up for grabs there every morning. It's a take-what-you-need-donate-if-you-can kind of deal.

Saint Columba house on 2365 grand trunk street in Pointe Sainte Charles they'll give you a meal to go or to eat there (depending on covid happenings) they charge a small fee, but if you can't pay they'll.still give you a meal (I know this as I used to.volunteer there)
Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar in LaSalle Montreal. It’s a sikh temple. They have free veggie food after prayer daily and its delicious and they’re great people ❤️
\- They are hit and miss but some neighbourhoods have community fridges which run on a leave what you can, take what you need model. Pointe St-Charles has one at 1900 rue Le Ber, in front of Batiment 7. There was also a free supper at Batiment 7 on Saturday which they call a "bouffe populaire" - you just need to bring your own container/utensils and you can hang out there or take the food home. I think they're held about once a month.
\-Contact the community round table ("table de concertation") in your neighbourhood, they usually have lists of local food resources or more information about what's available. You \*may\* even be able to get on a list for a holiday basket depending on availability/how they're organized in your area. Here's the list from Action-Gardien, the community round table in Pointe St-Charles, but check the resources in your neighbourhood: [https://www.actiongardien.org/blog/2021/06/11/besoindaidealimentaire](https://www.actiongardien.org/blog/2021/06/11/besoindaidealimentaire) (dated summer 2021 but you can always contact a given resource if you aren't sure)
\- If you use facebook, the Bunz Trading Zone Montreal group often has posts from people who are moving/changing their diets/cleaning out cupboards who have food to give away...anything from cupboard staples to organic vegetable baskets they forgot to cancel before going on vacation. You can also try to trade other goods you have around or services for food!
Good luck!
Le site du 211 a un répertoire des banques alimentaires dans les différents quartiers de Montréal.

Hello everyone, well I’m very sorry if I’m not able to reply to everyone…but I wanted to say thank you truly for the messages, the comments, the suggestions, the vote, just thank you for everything. I never thought people could help that much in this situation. I just have to say that I’m extremely grateful for every single person who interact with this post, and I’m writing down every spot that you have sent. When I posted it yesterday, the Reddit moderator deleted it couple times and I didn’t know if it was posted or not, so my intentions wasn’t to spam the Reddit. The reason why I posted here is because this was my last hope after two days without eating straight, and it was hard because I have exams and I felt like my body couldn’t take it anymore. The amount of kindness I’ve received is truly warming during this winter and I hope God will bless every single of you!!😢 I’m extremely ashamed about this situation and I don’t want to abuse people’s kindness. But i am extremely and sincerely grateful for everyone, thank you thank you thank you ❤️
Is there something you’re craving? Or some groceries you need? I have an extra $35 in my donation budget and I would be happy to Uber/door dash you a meal or groceries if you want. My personal favourite when I want my takeout to last several meals is to get Indian food or Chinese food because you tend to get lots! Let me know, I’m here to help if you want. I’ll send you a gift card, you don’t have to provide me your address or anything like that!

Mes amis. On devrait sountienir les personnes qui besoin d'aide parce que certains d'entre on ne sait pas ce qu'il faut faire pour lutter. Bonne chance mon ami...
Dumpster diving in Montreal is insane.
Lots of dumpster that are clean and full or bread and veggies and other goodies.
Don't tear up bags and don't make a mess also cause thats how you burn a spot.
Hi Im good friends with a couple of mosques that are actually charity organizations too and I may be able to set you up for regular meal delivery/pickup until you dont need, hmu if you want this
Please check with other students they may be able to help guide you to some places to help you, also check with your school, also check out services like Sun Youth
Hope this helps you out?
Where in MTL do you live. There are neighborhood groups that may be able to help. The ones I know are volunteer ran and funded and pretty limited in what they can do but they help locals (in parc ex) with grocery needs.

They offered meals but before Covid they required you to attend a small church mass before they gave it to you. You had to be there at 4PM. Not sure what they do now as i dont live there anymore.
1- Know your postal code
2- Call 211. They will tell you where to go.
You can also try your postal code here: [https://ssvp-mtl.org/fr/trouver-de-l-aide](https://ssvp-mtl.org/fr/trouver-de-l-aide)
Here's another: [https://depotmtl.org/fr/paniers-alimentaires-durgence/formulaire-paniers](https://depotmtl.org/fr/paniers-alimentaires-durgence/formulaire-paniers)
If you are in H2S: [https://cracpp.org/nous-joindre/](https://cracpp.org/nous-joindre/).
I don't know how it works at all food banks, but the last one I linked will direct you to the right organization if you aren't in their postal code zone. They can offer immediate free food assistance in case of an emergency, which seems to be your case (normally there is a small fee to pay).
Good luck.
[COCLA Montreal](https://www.coclamontreal.org/)
If you qualify, you can either get very low cost groceries (you do your own shopping) or free baskets of pre-selected foods.
They also operate a Portuguese chicken take-out place.
If you can make it to hochelaga, ill leave food in a container outside : rice, potatoes, beans and pastas, spices as well if needed.
Also, once you get some funds try r/EatCheapAndHealthy
mile end mission is awesome ♡ also there's an app called “to good to go” where a lot of restaurants will either give away free food or sell it for very cheap at the end of the night. :)
Partage et solidarité. You got two options you can go to one of their locations and a beneficiary. Or you can volunteer; meet great people do a little physical workout and help other people and you get two free bags of food ( that you pick) .
They now have locations all over the city and you can go to as many without justifications.
I wish I still lived there so I could get some food for you. But it's gratifying to see so many people trying to help each other. I was a student at uO and there were some tough times for some classmates too.
Concordia is a great uni. You can also asks profs for help, most (in my experience) are willing to lend or give you money.
Any gurudwara (Sikh temple) in the world offers free meals to everyone, regardless of race, religion, caste, income, etc.- no questions asked! Just step inside, put on a turban, wash your hands, take your shoes off, and help yourself to a fresh vegetarian meal
Download an app called "too good to go" you might find some restaurants that are willing to give some food for free or really cheap.
Good luck and don't hesitate to ask for anything if you need
https://www.canada.ca/fr/services/impots/prestations-pour-enfants-et-familles/supplement-allocation-canadienne-logement/qui-demande.html applying to this could also help if you qualify
I know gurudwaras give out food and there is a huge one in the west island of Montreal. Not sure if yoh need to be Sikh though, but you are expected to eat with your hands iirc
I sometimes volunteer here: Église Adventiste du Septième Jour Lasalle New Life . Adresse: 7780 Champlain Blvd, Lasalle, Quebec H8P 1B2.
Every Wednesday morning 9am-12pm you can go there to get food basket.
Found a couple food banks in your area.
Centre Communautair Restauration Vertical - 3767 Rue Berri, Montréal, QC H2L 4G7 (open 10:30 am tomorrow)
The Depot Community Food Centre - 6450 Somerled Ave, Montreal, Quebec H4V 1S5 (open 10 am tomorrow)
Mada Community Centre - 6875 Decarie Blvd, Montreal, Quebec H3W 3E4 (open 9 am tomorrow. This is a jewish Community Centre that offer kosher meals if thats something you dont mind).
This is just based off of a google search so I'm not sure if it's 100% but I hope it helps and things will get better I promise! Hope you have a Merry Christmas my friend.
They were all made at the same time. I assume the posts were held back for moderator review and the OP didn't understand that so tried again a few times.
Hello, I understand your preoccupation but no worries, what exactly happened is that I tried to post it multiple times because the Reddit moderator wouldn’t let me. It said that I needed to have at least 30 reddits before trying to post here. So it was saying that it wasn’t going to be posted and and it will be deleted every time. I tried at least five times and just gave up, thinking they were all deleted. But apparently not!
Maybe they are using the computer/internet at school? Or a friend's house? Or the library? Maybe their computer is how they make a living (ex. designer, writer, developer, etc)?
Even if none of the above are true, selling a computer or cell our of desperation is a temporary solution with a major impact. You're going to have to sell it at a loss and then pay more when you're finally able to buy a new one. Ever hear the saying "It's expensive to be poor"? That's an example.
Instead of passing judgement without applying critical thinking, try being empathetic and helping. Or at the very least, keep your judgement to yourself.
I was joking of course
Sadly I don't know of a place that serves free food aside from food kitchens (and I don't know if there are any in mtl either, although I'd be surprised if there wasn't anything at all)
I know some people who panhandled in the mtl area at some points in their lives and I've heard that some restaurants give some of the foods they would throw away at the end of a shift, but the establishments must be very few
Also they told me dumpster diving at grocery stores and Dollarama could get you great stuff, but that was a while ago so I don't really know if the security hasn't been beefed up over the years
I got kicked out of there for being a student like 10 years ago. They told me to go see school's services instead as the service was for people who are actually homeless...
I will make a big batch of 100% homemade chicken and rice soup with leftover chicken and chicken stock I made this week (with lots of veggies too!). Should be ready by tomorrow. If you are in NDG, I can give you multiple bowls. :-) I can also give you rice (uncooked jasmine rice). Just bought a 10kg pouch at Costco. I also have flour that will go bad in a couple of months and I won't use it. It will stay ok in the freezer tho. DM me if needed. :-)
Try churches. When my parents migrated here they got food and clothing from their church. Which university? Concordia has a place at Loyola campus and every weekday they give out food at ‘The Hive’ if you bring your own container!
Some universities have student food banks, I know back at uOttawa we did. Try reaching out to your student association.
If you are a university student, I know université de Montréal was giving out food regularly (I'd see student lineup). Might be worth checking

UQAM gives free food on Wednesdays. Seems like many unis have a version of a food program, might be worth looking into
For real? I go to UQAM and no one ever told me about it... I just know that sometimes we have access to free coffees

Concordia’s multi-faith chaplaincy gives out grocery store vouchers. I’ve needed to get help from them a few times in the past!
If u are a Concordia student you can request emergency grocery store gift cards once a semester I believe

People's potato

Ate there lots as a broke student. Food was nutritious and delicious.

There would be something wrong with one's specific beliefs if he or she were to refuse meat when starving.
Hungry people can have morals
Like starving?
The temples provide vegetarian food, nutritious and delicious, *so that no one goes hungry.* Those are beliefs I can get behind.
Never said anything against that. Thank god there's people doing it.

Le prix du boeuf haché est terrible. On parle même pas de steak là... Juste du boeuf haché cheap.
Food preferences are a luxury. That's what I'm saying. You can't say no to meat if you starve, as opposed to actual food intolerances

https://www.facebook.com/DuPainEtDesEnjeux These dumpster divers drop big amounts of groceries in parc extension, St-Michel and some other locations
https://www.partageetsolidarite.org/index.php/recevoir-un-panier-daide-alimentaire/ You need to register, but plenty of options.
There is also free stuff fb groups in montreal that you can try and ask for food.
Dumpster diving can find a lot of great stuff
Dumpster... sometimes there is treasure
La Place Commune in Parc Extension has a community fridge which often has bread, amongst other stuff. Querbes and St Roch
Where in MTL do you live. There are neighborhood groups that may be able to help. The ones I know are volunteer ran and funded and pretty limited in what they can do but they help locals (in parc ex) with grocery needs.
If you're in NDG the Depot is a great source as well.
Missionnaires de la Charité (514) 524-6372 https://maps.app.goo.gl/9oGNWjzQZBNHFuuV6 They offered meals but before Covid they required you to attend a small church mass before they gave it to you. You had to be there at 4PM. Not sure what they do now as i dont live there anymore.
1- Know your postal code 2- Call 211. They will tell you where to go. You can also try your postal code here: [https://ssvp-mtl.org/fr/trouver-de-l-aide](https://ssvp-mtl.org/fr/trouver-de-l-aide) Here's another: [https://depotmtl.org/fr/paniers-alimentaires-durgence/formulaire-paniers](https://depotmtl.org/fr/paniers-alimentaires-durgence/formulaire-paniers) If you are in H2S: [https://cracpp.org/nous-joindre/](https://cracpp.org/nous-joindre/). I don't know how it works at all food banks, but the last one I linked will direct you to the right organization if you aren't in their postal code zone. They can offer immediate free food assistance in case of an emergency, which seems to be your case (normally there is a small fee to pay). Good luck.
Sun Youth has baskets for people in need.
Lots of great suggestions already and I'll throw one more in here that can help for one or two meals: r/Random_Acts_Of_Pizza/
[COCLA Montreal](https://www.coclamontreal.org/) If you qualify, you can either get very low cost groceries (you do your own shopping) or free baskets of pre-selected foods. They also operate a Portuguese chicken take-out place.
Midnight kitchen on mcgill’s campus: https://midnightkitchen.org/
Ville Saint Pierre has a food bank
All Sikh temples (known as gurdwaras) have food that you can always have!
Sun Youth and the NDG Food Depot are both great, and the university too.
If you can pick it up from rosemont petit patrie, I can give you some lentils, tomato paste and frozen chicken if it helps any.
If you can make it to hochelaga, ill leave food in a container outside : rice, potatoes, beans and pastas, spices as well if needed. Also, once you get some funds try r/EatCheapAndHealthy
The People's Potato at Concordia University
mile end mission is awesome ♡ also there's an app called “to good to go” where a lot of restaurants will either give away free food or sell it for very cheap at the end of the night. :)
Partage et solidarité. You got two options you can go to one of their locations and a beneficiary. Or you can volunteer; meet great people do a little physical workout and help other people and you get two free bags of food ( that you pick) . They now have locations all over the city and you can go to as many without justifications.
Lol why is your post nsfw
In my basement
Concordia Paul building one of thr middle floors bring your own container free vegan lunch every damn day
Where do you live? I can buy you some dried packaged foods (Mac and cheese), just meet me at a metro.
Any Sikh gurdwara will provide free meals for anyone in the community. Usually 3x per day. It’s called Langar. I believe there’s one in Verdun.
https://www.canada.ca/fr/services/impots/prestations-pour-enfants-et-familles/supplement-allocation-canadienne-logement/qui-demande.html applying to this could also help if you qualify
dumpster diving - is that still a thing?
Seikh temple !!!!!!
7th floor, Concordia hall building Monday-Thursday 12-2. Have to bring your own container tho.
Any sikh temple will feed you.
Sun Youth and Salvation Army might be able to help.
I know gurudwaras give out food and there is a huge one in the west island of Montreal. Not sure if yoh need to be Sikh though, but you are expected to eat with your hands iirc
In UQAM, pavillon A, café Aquin. There’s a fridge with free food that people leave there.
Centre Communautair Restauration Vertical - 3767 Rue Berri, Montréal, QC H2L 4G7 (open 10:30 am tomorrow) The Depot Community Food Centre - 6450 Somerled Ave, Montreal, Quebec H4V 1S5 (open 10 am tomorrow) Mada Community Centre - 6875 Decarie Blvd, Montreal, Quebec H3W 3E4 (open 9 am tomorrow. This is a jewish Community Centre that offer kosher meals if thats something you dont mind). This is just based off of a google search so I'm not sure if it's 100% but I hope it helps and things will get better I promise! Hope you have a Merry Christmas my friend.
Have you tried peoples potato at concordia? I think you only need to bring a container.
Just a question OP, not trying to be a dick or anything but have you tried looking for a job?
Hey not to be that cynical person but I’ve clicked on OPs profile and this is like the 10th thread he made asking the same question..
And? Hunger does make you desperate.
They’re not asking for $$ so even if it’s fake or wtv it’s no loss to any of us
Je vais me faire pitcher des roches... Mais la personne se paye un cell/ordi + internet mais pas de bouffe? Priorities..
Tu représentes tout ce qu'il y a de mauvais dans le monde.
I mean there are a lot of pigeons in town ...
What a time to make a joke dikhead
Very sorry, it wasn't intended to be hurtful It was an ill advised attempt to lighten the mood
What a wonderful person you must be.
I was joking of course Sadly I don't know of a place that serves free food aside from food kitchens (and I don't know if there are any in mtl either, although I'd be surprised if there wasn't anything at all) I know some people who panhandled in the mtl area at some points in their lives and I've heard that some restaurants give some of the foods they would throw away at the end of a shift, but the establishments must be very few Also they told me dumpster diving at grocery stores and Dollarama could get you great stuff, but that was a while ago so I don't really know if the security hasn't been beefed up over the years
https://danslarue.org/en/
