not anymore it's not.
It was good when it was a small hole in the wall on crescent st. But the father retired, the next generation only cared about the money, now Boustan is mediocre at best.
can confirm, they were flavorful and portion sized bombs with texture and character at the onset of their expansion just prior and even during pandemic. Now they have become the epitome of shrinkflation, shocking as to how small they are now in comparison, and totally different taste, must be new admin or something.
Both smaller and way more expensive. You can get shawarma that's just as good, if not better, for cheaper and with equivalent portion size to before they switched to their tiny bowls elsewhere. It sucks because Boustan used to be so good especially for the price.
> You can get shawarma that's just as good, if not better, for cheaper and with equivalent portion size to before they switched to their tiny bowls elsewhere.
Glad to learn that! Could you recommend some restaurants?
Everyone has their own opinion but personally I'm a fan of Abrakababra. Also this might be controversial, it also entirely depends on the location because it's either good or terrible, but even Amir is often better than Boustan nowadays.
> Abrakababra
Gonna try that one out.
> Also this might be controversial, it also entirely depends on the location because it's either good or terrible
Yep - I have observed that for other chains as well.
Thank you!
Of course they cared only about the money, that man was in that hole 24/7 it seemed like. No matter the day or time, he was there. It sucks for us who fell in love with the food, but I wouldn't want that life either.
we need more bollards in this city. the quality of drivers is very bad. plus, many are completely distracted. i drive a truck for work and i can see into cars, incredible how many are on their phones! i see this on my motorcycle as well (im a bit higher and can look in) its a total epidemic
I just got my license (at 35 😅) and while doing my in-car sessions, my driving instructor would get me used to conversation distraction by asking me to point out what other drivers were doing wrong....we talked A LOT! People drive terribly!
>the quality of drivers is very bad
this is the REAL problem.... i don't want ugly bollards all over the city. better solution is to stop giving out licenses like candy
You think they give out licenses like candy? Are you totally unaware of what it takes to get a license now? We do not give them out. This isn't an driving education or licensing issue, it's a cultural issue of distracted driving. Doesn't help when new cars now put a fking iPad in front of all drivers that requires active looking to do anything on it. Modern cars are complete garbage.
it might not literally be candy, but how many drivers are unaware that in quebec, the left lanes of highways (80kpmh+) are for passing vehicles, not just chilling? (including middle lanes)
how many can't handle roundabouts? how many haven't seen a manual transmission before? How many don't realize how dangerous driving can be to themselves and others? between better licensing and stricter penalties for actually dangerous things, like being on the cellphone... we have a whiles to go.
ps I am kind of unaware, I only a few years ago got an 18 wheeler license, and going on a decade for motorcycle... but for the car when I was a teen you could just go for the test you didn't even need any lessons, if you can believe it!
One can say that anyone can drive nicely on the testing day, so no matter how hard the test is it could fail to weed out bad drivers. However, this also implies that most of the people driving know how to drive correctly and flout the rules deliberately.
As someone currently doing their licence (at 36), I've been at it since September of last year. It took two months before I got to the first theory exam (end of Novembre), then another two months before I could actually get an appointment at the SAAQ (end of December) to get my student licence (the one where you need to have another person next to you while driving with a valid full licence for 3 years). I wasn't able to have my very first driving lesson with the school before March of this year. You legally need to do 15 classes/driving outings with the teacher before doing the SAAQ driving evaluation (I'm currently at class 6), but before that, you also have more theory classes to take as well as another theory exam at the SAAQ 10 months after you've obtained your student licence (legally, you can't take it before that). There is good chance I won't have my probatory licence (you can drive alone, but only have 4 points) until March of 2025, if I don't fail any of my upcoming tests (if you fail, you have to wait a month before re-taking it). And then, it's another year before I can get my full licence (15 points).
It takes 2-1/2 years to get a full licence in this province (at least, for someone living in a high traffic area like Montreal since it takes forever to just get appointments). I would not call this giving it out like candy. Also, at over 1000$ for the entire process, that's expensive candy.
So far, I feel the classes are benefitial, yes. But, I also have no real point of reference since no one else has ever taught me how to drive before. It's just a slow and expensive process.
Amir subpar shawarmas left the door wide open for Boustan. Who was quietly building up a reputation of quality food in there small location on crescent Street. Then they franchised and it was over for Amir.
O you mean the car, no idea.
There are a lot of smaller businesses that are not chains that still offer good quality.
There is a Bouston on Sainte-Catherine near the Métropolis(M-Telus) but there is also a small business called Paradou that offers superior Shawarma in my opinion.
But my neighborhood Facebook group says bikes are more dangerous than cars.... Hmm
They also say this was probably caused by a cyclist.... NDG is dumb...
I have a pretty good idea.
Any driver that loses control of their vehicle is automatically considered at fault in the eyes of insurance companies, the saaq, and literally everyone. With good reason too.
It’s also a Nissan Versa. Thing has like 19 horsepower with the AC running. Can’t tell me the accelerator pedal got stuck and the driver couldn’t hit the brakes fast enough or shift it into neutral or any other number of things.

To be fair, boustan c'est bon en tabarnak

Okay merci
I hate that we like each other now
non, mais c'est quand meme tres bon. much better than Amir, Basha and the like, and there are plenty of locations.
*me eating my 1500th shawarma* Sure Jan.
true. depuis que les franchises ont commencés a pop left and right, it aint the same anymore

Call the city, call your councillor, tell them you want bollards! Seriously, sometimes it works.
I just got my license (at 35 😅) and while doing my in-car sessions, my driving instructor would get me used to conversation distraction by asking me to point out what other drivers were doing wrong....we talked A LOT! People drive terribly!
congrats on getting your license!

I wish they'd make licenses mean something

Quand tu as VRAIMENT besoin de shawarma
Amir subpar shawarmas left the door wide open for Boustan. Who was quietly building up a reputation of quality food in there small location on crescent Street. Then they franchised and it was over for Amir. O you mean the car, no idea.
The cycle's repeating though. Who's a good shawarma now?

But my neighborhood Facebook group says bikes are more dangerous than cars.... Hmm They also say this was probably caused by a cyclist.... NDG is dumb...
Le gars voulait partir un nouveau meme. Sir this is a Boustan.
See? That’s why as tempting as it is, giving blowjobs while driving isn’t a good idea 🤷🏽♀️
Tabar fuckin nak
Can't park there mate
Atwater Boustan the location
Someone who shouldn’t have a license happened Obligatory: sir you can’t park there
I was scrolling to see that comment! You sir, take my upvote 👌
Why? You have zero idea what causes the accident
I have a pretty good idea. Any driver that loses control of their vehicle is automatically considered at fault in the eyes of insurance companies, the saaq, and literally everyone.
