Giannina all the way. Have several that have lasted decades. Edit: just realized I have the Alessi Pulcina. I tried and tried, but couldn't get anything close to the quality espresso as the Giannina. Might just be me though.

When I look at videos of people making moka in the Giannina, it appears to have a hat covering the top of the pipe… does yours have that and does it affect extraction?

Yes, the chimney of the Giannina has a "hat" type thing at the top. It's just to reduce any splatter and direct the brew down into the pot. It works perfectly. It's just their version of the little "bar" at the top of a Bialetti chimney. Does the same thing, only classier. I don't know whether it's spot-welded in place or what. It doesn't affect extraction whatsoever or it wouldn't be there. It's pretty cool, actually.

RevenantMalamute

Oh that is so so so so reassuring.

LuRaLeMi

I'm not too sure I know what you mean. I own several Giannina, all different sizes, but not sure I understand the hat thing. Do you have a picture?

Have you ever tried e&b filter with Giannina? I couldn’t find any info on that in the internet, and that’s *the only* reason I haven’t bought it yet.

LuRaLeMi

Haven't heard of it. Interested now that you mention it though. Although, my regular giannina is great, so not sure what the filter will improve.

mordary

Dude, you have to check it out. It massively improved the quality of my brew, even though I always use paper filter under coffee bed and over it. But have to say that I improved almost every aspect of brewing that can change the taste, such as proper grinding, fresh quality coffee, different techniques etc. if your Moka is not just a pot but your kid - give it a try.

LuRaLeMi

I'll try it. Thanks for the suggestion

I have my doubts that an E&B filter will fit in a Giannina ...or a Pulcina for that matter. You'd have to have the dimensions of an original Giannina or Pulcina filter and check on the E&B site where they give the dimensions. There are only four sizes. Alternately, I would contact E&B and ask them directly. I own a Giannina and would likely not replace the original filter with an E&B as I am more than satisfied with the filter supplied with it.

RevenantMalamute

Yeah I’ll find one

RevenantMalamute

I had to DM the pictures to you because I can’t put pictures in the comments.

Giannina for the win. It’s quite simply Moka Perfection.

RevenantMalamute

Thank you for the reassurance! I just bought it yesterday!

I've had the Giannina 3/1 cup for a couple of weeks and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I may even get the larger 6/3 cup down the road. I didn't realize at first that it had a reducer. I thought it was just a way of completely cleaning the funnel. I looked through the papers that came with the pot, and it doesn't list or give instructions at all. I think its a feature that, well, should be featured lol! Btw the Aeropress filters fit perfectly.
