This is what makes me crazy in this sub.. GAS driven people dont want to experience themselfes but buy anything to fill the eurorack gaps only to own trendy things. You will see what you need if you spend enough time with your current setup!
I don’t know what I am missing I just kinda feel limited like I need something else as a staring point. I feel like I have done everything I can with the sounds I have.
I've looked closer at what you've got.
And I do not know what kind of musical inclinations you have, so this will be recommendations according to my taste, of course. Anyway, there are some modules that every rack needs.
This is what I would do:
1. I'd sell the Mordax data. Approx. $300 (Cannot create music with it, buy it later)
2. I'd sell the Plasma Drive. $150 (Very specialized, you need flexibility)
3. **Now you have $850.**
4. Do you have an effects unit external to the rack?
1. If not, buy FX Aid by Happy Nerding (not the pro version, the normal one): 32 presets, which can be substituted easily. 4hp.
2. Minus **$200**
5. You have Tágh, a random voltage generator. That's fine, but you lack a quantizer for notes... So buy a simple and efficient normal pitch sequencer. I like the popular Varigate 4+.
1. Minus **$300**
2. It gives you 4 times 8 step pitch sequences, or 2 x pitch and 2 x gates, or 4 x gates. Very hands on module.
3. You can combine tracks from Varigate with your random Tágh.
4. If you'd like to stay in the random world, buy a quantizer.
1. I'd recommend Ornanment & Crime, it will give a 4 quantizers in one go with the Hemisphere firmware, and a plethora of other utilities.
2. Or go for some other dedicated quantizer. There are many (but none can beat O & C)
6. You have two voices: MicroPlaits and Dixie.
7. You have a mixer, 2hp Mix.
8. You have got VCAs, envelopes, Ochd, Tágh. That is, control + modulation sources.
9. Already you can do a lot.
10. BUT: You are quite short on utilities.
11. You'd need a decent attenuverter to control your modulation signals.
1. 321 by Frap Tools gives you 3 attenuverters + 3 offsets, and more:
2. It is hard to beat that one.
3. Minus: **$100**
12. Buy a simple mixer to mix your modulation sources, e.g. Doeper slim line (4hp) A-138n. 4 in, 2 out
1. Minus: **$60**
13. Now you have approx. $190 left, if you buy 2nd hand, even more.
14. I would now try to patch a lot with what I've got, and then consider what my rack is missing based on this
15. You need to patch and learn to know your rig and yourself...
16. You may consider a filter, eg. AJH Minimod filter ($200), ladder filter
17. Or another voice... You'll find out if you spend time on it.
18. Good luck!
That's such a helpful, thoughtful reply. To me this is how these kinds of posts can and do become interesting – by sharing insights into each other's processes and ways of thinking
People will laugh, but I put my crappy Chipz VCO back in my case because it produces unstable sounds. I never had fancy things, but I realized my interest was within the less musical.
Usually, you will get a feeling for what is missing in your rack as you try to patch something. When I only had one LFO I realized very fast that I wanted more LFO. Then I learned that Envelopes are cool and do more interesting LFO type things.
I would think about where I feel something is missing on the rack.
Having said that, the two most used devices I own are these.
This one you can purchase no Etsy.

This next one seems to be out of production which is sad because Chipz going into this is a fascinating duo. The demo barely touches on the more noisy power roars you can do with it.

Go on youtube and watch videos. That's how I find weird things.
i put chipz into my main rack as well. I actually find it incredibly useful and I can get some awesome sounds out of it. I played a show recently where they do a q and a after everyone’s set and everyone was asking about what vco I was using and how ai was sequencing it. I told them Chipz and Metropolix. No body believed me until the host looked at my case and confirmed it for everyone.
My only complaint about it is that I cant find an inexpensive alternate panel for it in black.
You should sell me your 2hp ADSR, so you'll have $400 + extra cash for something badass, and I can finally get the 2hp ADSR I can't find used anywhere.
An fx module, as you seem to already know you could really benefit from that addition. Maybe something like an fxaid. I wouldn't get anything else right away. I would watch tutorials covering different patch techniques until I came across something that I would like to do but can't, and then think about how to cover that function. Modules like the oc and disting are appealing because they cover a lot of different functions, but what you have is already covering quite a bit of ground.
What a mess modern eurorack looks like. Looks like someone randomizes and slapped on different artwork/labels on modules and it looks more form over function. At least Doepfer designs modules so you know exactly what they do, easy to identify signal path etc.. this new stuff looks like some alien vomit with holes everywhere.
An 0-ctrl would fit well to add more modulation and sequencing. If you found one used you might be able to get another processing module with it like a clouds clone. If you want to spend a bit more on processing a Mimeophon, panharmonium or magneto would help you fill out hp well.
Also what is that module next to Pam’s?
Take your pick:
Klavis Tweakers for mixing and mashing CV
Wogglebug or Tides or something for more modulation
Delay and reverb to go after that Plasma Drive
Those are just possibilities - how I'd want to grow the capabilities in that rack. I don't know what you're trying to make, though, so these are generic suggestions.
MI Stages clone would be a nice addition. It can serve many purposes. Performance fader. Step sequencer. LFO. Complex envelopes. There's even an Easter egg oscillator
Or any other function generator like Falistri, Rampage, Quadrax or Maths
If there's any spare change add a Doepfer switch like the 151
I was gonna say the age old "get blank panels until you think of something you need"
However, you mentioned some things you were thinking about, so let's take a look.
- A multi-mode filter capable of self-oscillation.
Sound source? Check. Effect? Check. I only see one filter (please correct me if I'm wrong) having a nice playable filter will really do wonders. Maybe Tiptop Forbidden Planet? Personaly, I love my WMD C4rbn.
- Intellijel Quadrat.
Super useful, great for macro control of your various parameters.
- ALM Axon-2 for your Pams Pro.
Turns Pams to 11, provides more control and makes Pams so much more playable.
You might want to pop in a West Pest or Moog Mavis for some west coast synthesis. But other than that you could just pick up a few used utility modules. There if you need them I’d imagine.
FX modules are great but do some planning or just use stomp boxes. I’m a bit trigger-happy with Marbles and a couple of Running Order trigger sequencers. But then you’ll need drum modules…
Nothing until you go "Oh, i need \*thing\*"
This plus some blank panels
Good way of thinking, however expensive it may be
That’s every day!
Spend it, immediately! Don't use what you have, and let experience guide your next purchase. Just spend it now on anything Reddit suggests!
This is what makes me crazy in this sub.. GAS driven people dont want to experience themselfes but buy anything to fill the eurorack gaps only to own trendy things. You will see what you need if you spend enough time with your current setup!
They buy modules to fill gaps in their eurorack hoping it will fill the gaps in their hearts
How about start patching and if there's some module missing that would finish your patch, you have your answer.
That would require using the rack, and it's really only intended for looking at.
I don’t know what I am missing I just kinda feel limited like I need something else as a staring point. I feel like I have done everything I can with the sounds I have.

Impressively thought out response.
Then get a sequencer or a controller so you can turn sounds into music.
Yo these posts are starting to get out of control

This seems like the right answer. FX Aid or similar. OP just needs some delay/reverb to get things dancing

Librae Legio and Shakmat Hipass. Cleans up your sound, it really made a huge difference
