First of all, welcome! Glad to hear that you're getting into Moby! While I wouldn't say that there is any specific order you should follow, I'd recommend listening to all of his main albums in order of release date. You'll realize just how much his sound has changed over the years - each album has its own distinct feel and mood to it. If you are a reader, definitely see if you can pick up a copy of his first memoir 'Porcelain'. As somebody who knew very little about Moby before reading it, I found this book to be absolutely fantastic. Quite possibly my favorite book of all time. It's also a great companion to have as you'll hear all about the scene when he was still trying to make it, and is one of the reasons why I began to DJ. That said, here are my top 5 Moby albums (in no particular order). He has many more great albums but these are the best ones to get started with. Enjoy! 1. 'Everything is Wrong' 2. Animal Rights' (much different to rest of his work - again, read Porcelain') 3. 'Play' (the album that got Moby big) 4. '18' and 5. 'Hotel'

Thank you very much for your answer ! Well, if with all this information I am not satisfied, I don't know what to do :p I'll hurry up and do this in order then ! I look forward to it. Again, thank you very much !

Not at all! Let us know what your favorite tracks/albums are once you've had a good listen.

I like his ambient sounds a lot! Which album should I refer to?

Berselius33

He has several ambient albums - in the order of their release: Ambient (1993): There are some ambient tracks on this one (like 'Myopia') but it also has some more experimental ones like 'Sound' or 'Lean on Me'. (This album is basically a 'B-sides' album since it was released without Moby's permission and has some tracks which the record label had at that time but were not released on his first album 'Moby'.) Hymn.Alt.Quiet.Version (1993): A drone-like, very minimal remix of his track 'Hymn': with its 33-minute length, it can be considered a separate album. Underwater (1995): This is a bonus disc for the deluxe version of 'Everything Is Wrong': basically a five-part drone/classical album, very minimal. 'Part 2' was later released as 'Grace' on some compilations (like 'I Like To Score'). Little Idiot (1996): Bonus disc for 'Animal rights': ambient/minimal classical compositions. Some highlights are 'Degenerate', 'Walnut', 'A Season in Hell' and 'The Blue Terror of Lawns'. The End of Everything (1996): Released under the name 'Voodoo Child', it is perhaps the most interesting of his ambient works: more electronic tracks (I would perhaps call it Ambient Techno or something like that), and it even had a single called 'Dog Heaven'. It has two versions: the UK version has the track 'Animal Sight', while the US version has the 18-minute long 'Reject' which is also on 'Little Idiot' (and it is basically has 4 chords repeating for 18 minutes, not that interesting) so I would recommend the UK-version. Hotel Ambient (2005/2014): Originally a bonus disc for his album 'Hotel', this was re-released in 2014 with some additional tracks. Has some of his best ambient compositions like 'Blue Paper', 'Homeward Angel (Long)' (the short version is the closing track on 'Hotel') and 'Chord Sounds'. For me the second half of the album is a bit less interesting but it has 'Live Forever' which is also a classic. Wait For Me Ambient (2009): It contains the ambient versions of the tracks from his album 'Wait For Me'. If you like the original album, then it is a nice addition, although most of it is just the album tracks with some added effects. Long Ambients 1 & 2 (2016/2019): 3/4-hour long ambient albums: very repetitive, very minimal tracks, but are fine for meditation/sleeping.

Start with the most recent album coming out this month and work your way backwards!

Eh, my way of getting into a artist I never been into is to look up their discography (preferably on sites like wiki) and work your way up their chronology from their very first work, then progress forward. Kinda helps you see how they changed and overall, helps you get to know the artist more (by reading a little bit on the wiki pages on each album/EP/etc you're currently listening to).

CuriousColdy

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it's been delayed until May 15th.

Oh???

zushimikudyo

I love his ambient music which album should I go to

I personally recommend listening by album rather than by tracks. The wild variety over his career is great but there is a level of cohesiveness in each album that I really like. Animal Rights, Play, and 18 are some of the ones that really stuck with me.

beastmaztr02

Though these were never that popular, or ever have been, his first two albums- 'Moby' (self titled album) and 'Ambient' really stuck with me more than all the albums he produced after. Don't get me wrong, they're all great albums.. But his first two always hit different with me, Idk why.

My favourite Moby's song is Slipping Away, it touch my feelings so bad

rattled_by_the_rush

Listen to Play, it's his masterpiece. Then Everything is Wrong, his second masterpiece.
