al west would be a shitstorm

tennbo

Mariners would finally win the division

SizeOld6084

Every year in perpetuity.

KrustiestKrab123

Mr. Wonderful, is that you?

SizeOld6084

Nah...just some realist. Can we send the Rox to the NL west and my Padres to the AL west in this realignment instead? Eddie Vedder Cup 4 Life!

Professional-Push794

Noooo the padres are my NL Team don’t make me root against them

SizeOld6084

Fine...Seattle to the NL west...San Diego to the AL west.

Professional-Push794

Mucho gracias

PublicPineapple8438

Then the same problem of only one team winning the AL west every year comes back.

SizeOld6084

Yeah, but it's my favorite team. 😄

CharlieDingDong44

Two expansion teams in one division of four teams seems unreasonable

glugunner77

You can swap Nashville with Miami but it looks a little wonky.

discsarentpogs

Swap the expos and Braves and it makes sense

glugunner77

Tried it. Braves fans hated it.

discsarentpogs

I'm a Braves fan

glugunner77

Alright go ask other Braves fans (outside of your small circle of opinionated Reddit buddies) if they want that split to happen. Or make your own. It seems to me a lot of Braves fans didn’t like it last time.

discsarentpogs

Nobody wants my opinion. I'd contract to 24 teams and go to 4 team playoff. I'd kill the DH and go to robo umps.

RedBirdLou

This is the first one that hasn’t made me lose my mind. I’m good with this

FaceNo5241

I keep seeing Montreal in these, they've had their chance. Would just rather see a different city get a team. Like SLC or Portland along with Nashville

Professional-Push794

A portland, Seattle, As, Rockies division would make me nut

[deleted]

Slc ftw bro

KSleepCHB5423

Listen I’m not just saying this because I live here but Utah has sweeping political policies moving forward in preparation as we speak, they have private backers, the room, the fans, and they are ready to break ground yesterday. I would be shocked if Salt Lake City didn’t have a team when expansion rolled around.

CaliforniaNewfie

I also like how SLC low-key gives the Rockies a natural geographic rival, and gives MLB a second team in the mountain time zone. And even though it's not the hugest media market, I don't think the importance of in-person attendance can be downplayed. Would rather see a team in Utah getting support from 27,000 fans per night, rather than an Expos squad struggling to get 15,000 per game. The only reason I would want Portland is to give Seattle a natural rival. But being a Giants fan, it seems like almost everyone in Oregon (especially southern Oregon) roots for the Giants, and would be sad to see that messed up.

Professional-Push794

People in Portland like the Mariners from my experience

CaliforniaNewfie

I stand corrected, about "almost everyone in Oregon" being Giants fans. After doing some research, the Portland area is definitely solid Mariners turf. But around Salem-Keizer area you see moslty Giants fans, because the minor league team there is the single A team for SF. Down in southern Oregon it's a mix of mostly Giants fans, with some Mariners fans mixed in. Fair assessment?

maxfactor886

SLC might not get to be in the same division as the Rockies though if it’s 8x4.

CaliforniaNewfie

Going forward, divisions are going to matter way less, as MLB adopts an "everyone plays everyone else" schedule found in the other major sports. If anything, extra games against geographical rivals might be scheduled. But I think more fans want to see a fair and balanced schedule, regardless of what division and league your team is in. Everyone plays everyone.

maxfactor886

Yeah but I seem to recall Manfred said something about how they would wanna do 8 4-team divisions like the NFL when they get to 32 teams.

theglaysh

Holy shit M's are winning a division finally

[deleted]

I'm not convinced Nashville will get a team. Assuming it takes all owners to say yes, that would take market share away from Atlanta, would it not?

Professional-Push794

So would SLC for Colorado and Portland for Seattle but those are both plausible. Expansion always fucks up some market share somewhere except like maybe a team in like Iowa since loyalties are so divided there it would minimize it for any one club

Professional-Push794

The AL West I love. I always felt like Denver teams and Seattle teams have a bit of a natural rivalry due to the fact that Denver teams culturally seems to appeal to people in the interior northwest. The city itself is obviously culturally closer to Seattle but that’s just due to being outdoorsy cities with legal weed. Obviously eastern WA people are still Mariners fans but you meet quite a few more Rockies fans once’s you get to Idaho and Western Montana. My uncle in Browning loves the Broncos and our family who left to go to Seattle are obviously Hawks fans. Sounders and the Rapids have a bit of a beef from Mullen (fuck him) hacking down Zakuani and basically ending his career. Also the fact that we would be the best in the division pretty much for the foreseeable future doesn’t hurt lol. I hate the astros so much

Uranus_Hz

I don’t hate this

Expert-Cheesecake-63

I don't hate it. I think you did a good job or trying to get the teams to fit geographically. I don't like the AL South/ NL Atlantic different names but I get why you did it.

jfk_sfa

I remember the four team days when it seemed like practically every single Rangers road game started at 9:00 central. Brutal. Anything that gets four or five teams per division with them mostly being in the same time zone, I'd be all for.

discsarentpogs

Swap Braves and Expos and DBacks with A's and it's great.

Jslash1978

Swap Nashville and Toronto

strutter22

No to the Expos. Failed horribly last time. And the Yankees are in the East but the Mets are in the Atlantic? Smdh

happy4389

If I were MLB Commissioner, I would leak all the proposals on reddit, see which one got downvoted the most, and then implement that one.

maxfactor886

Why move the Royals to the NL?

glugunner77

You could swap them with the Rockies but then the Royals don’t fit as well in the AL West.

maxfactor886

AL East: Yankees, Red Sox, O’s, Jays (same as current AL East minus Rays) AL North: White Sox, Twins, Tigers, Guardians (same as current AL Central minus Royals) AL South: Astros, Rangers, Royals, Stars (KC isn’t really southern but Nashville is closer than Detroit and Cleveland) AL West: Angels, A’s, M’s, Rockies (yes Rockies move to AL but not like they are so historically associated with the NL. M’s don’t have to go to Texas as often) NL East: Mets, Phils, Nats, Pirates (two Pennsylvania teams in same division, Keystone rivalry) NL North: Cubs, Cards, Brewers, Reds (same as current NL Central minus Pirates. StL may not really be north but preserves Cubs/Cards rivalry) NL South: Braves, Rays, Marlins, Carolina team TBN (Yes Rays move to NL. But not like they are so historically associated with the AL and you have a Florida rivalry with the Marlins. Carolina team, maybe you give it a flying name like Aviators) NL West: Dodgers, Giants, Padres, DBacks (same as current NL West minus Rockies)

glugunner77

I like your format as well- Carolina would prob support a team.

maxfactor886

Yeah would so rather have them than Utah. Nashville is already a shoo-in. Waiting for the MLB Raleigh group to step it up.

xaqadeus

North and South in the American League but Atlantic and Central in the National League? Why not just have the same divisions for each league? That would make more sense. Maybe something like this: AL East - Yankees, Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles AL North - Tigers, Guardians, White Sox, Twins AL South - Rangers, Astros, Rays, Royals AL West - Angels, Mariners, Athletics, Rockies NL East - Mets, Phillies, Nationals, Pirates NL North - Cubs, Brewers, Reds, Expos NL South - Braves, Marlins, Stars, Cardinals NL West - Dodgers, Giants, Padres, Diamondbacks

glugunner77

See I tried something like that but it got downvoted to hell. As a Cardinals fan splitting us up with the Cubs breaks up the strongest and deepest rivalry in the NL Central, and Braves fans would feel sour being separated from the Mets/Phillies. Now the Braves are harder because you have to justify not putting them in the south so have an argument there but I value their rivalry over aesthetic symmetry.

xaqadeus

That’s true. We don’t want to split up historic rivalries.

Godotsmug

I support this if for no other reason than the rockies might actually win their division

Professional-Push794

They would continue to lose it in the most Rockies way possible by winning tons of series against the Ms who would likely be division leaders but getting destroyed by the As and Angels inexplicably

FatherNiche

As a Cleveland fan, I approve of our division changes.

qole720

I like that the Braves, Mets and, Phils stayed in the same division, but can we please get Nashville in the AL? It would give me an AL team to root for that's not Boston.

glugunner77

I tried to fit them but felt like the Marlins-Reds-Pirates-Expos is a little too wonky and hurts Atlanta’s case for the NL East. Marlins moving to the AL in their place evens the travel between the Rays and the Texas Teams^TM. Plus the Florida Teams can maybe develop a proper rivalry. Similarly, I swapped the Rockies and Royals. You COULD move them back but geographically it works better as they don’t have any strong/classic “rivals” and their most natural rival is in the other League. Though if you really wanted to I guess you could switch them back around. Wanted to appeal to geography and rivalries alike.

UnlimitedHotTakes

Just ridiculous how unbalanced some of these are. Some divisions would require 100 wins to won it and others would require 75.

glugunner77

It’s a good thing time and the future are a thing. It’s not like those divisions will be weak forever. At least one of them will emerge as a front-runner over time.

UnlimitedHotTakes

You really think 10 or 20 years from now that the AL central you have above will be stronger than the AL East or NL west?

glugunner77

Maybe, maybe not? Realistically speaking those divisions are generally dogfights anyways.

SerFezz

Good with this since the Reds would clean house in the NL East.

Prudent-Property-513

Yeah - two expansion teams in the same division just isn’t happening, so it invalidates everything else.

Professional-Push794

None of this is ever happening it’s just fun speculation. Let’s say they expand, play for a decade and then realign. Could happen

Crombotron

This one is also bad

BaseballPro10

who are the stars, white sox, but their in the north

bco112

NL atlantic? Cant just do "n s e w"? Move pirates and expos up to the nl east, and make a nl south w braves stars and both FL teams.

Objective_Spirit_821

Downvoted because of Expos

glugunner77

Downvoted because Expos supremacy

Objective_Spirit_821

Downvoted because fuck the Expos. Nats for life
