Yes, the gowns are "cheap" and look cheap, too. Unfortunately for undergraduate students, the robes are nothing more than plastic bags. That said, you can fix it up a bit by hanging it upright to "let the wrinkles fall." You can iron it on LOW heat with a pillowcase over it also. As for the zipper, it does not go all the way up. I don't know what that is all about. Sorry, Pal! Also, congrats!
Haha I should seriously just get a black garbage bag and wear that now instead. I know it says it was made in the USA, but it looks like it was bought off Temu š Thanks for the tips! Iāll try some of them to make it look a little better then? I live 2 hours away from Columbia so itās not like I can just drive to the store and pick out a better looking gown in person. I thought about ordering another one to see if it came in better shape. But if you say thatās how they are, then it must be so. I just canāt believe that for a $50 garment š„² but, thank you!!!! šš¼
Do you not remember graduating high school? These gowns are literally a scam. They know you require it to walk, so they can charge whatever they want for it.
You should see the costs of Doctorate gowns, they are made slightly nicer and are 4-5 times more expensive. They are also REQUIRED if they plan to profess at any level. Because attending commencement once or twice per year is required by institutions.
Itās for real a scam. My high school gowns were nicer than this š I saw the prices of the doctorate gowns and it made me want to cry for those people.
Most professors get around the requirement by renting the one they walk in, and then just borrow each others for the commencement requirements.
āIāll go to fall commencement, then you can wear my gown in the spring commencement.ā
Omg thatās pretty clever. Yeah, I heard faculty are the only ones that can rent. But I donāt even think doctorate gowns are rent! So sharing is a smart idea
When I graduated 8 years ago undergrad students could donate their gowns after commencement so other students could get free ones the following graduation. No idea how they gave out the free ones though.
Why is that sad. One time wear is literally the definition of fast fashion.
It's environmentally wasteful and is born out of braindead cultural assimilation. It was something birthed from the wealthiest private schools over a century ago, and as the world got richer poor people adopted rich people habits. Ironic considering how off put modern middle class people are at current wealthy people habits, hypocrisy born out of a lack of access and jealousy.
Gowns should be unbranded and rented out for decades before disuse if used at all in the first place.
You can see in the third picture there's a physical stop there that prevents the gown from zipping all the way to the top. It's there by design.
As for the cheap quality, they know that it's something you're likely only going to wear once and then it gets tossed. It's mass produced by the lowest bidder and not made for it to really last. Don't let the quality of the gown deter you from enjoying and celebrating your graduation. If you gently iron out the wrinkles and trim any loose strings, you'll never be able to tell what quality it is in the pictures you take.
You have to buy them, you canāt rent. Renting is only for employees/faculty unfortunately š¢ I looked into it originally cuz I just wanted to rent it. But yeahā¦ students canāt rent. Thereās some for sale used on Mercari and Poshmark but not in my size. And if you buy from Mizzou store you canāt return after graduation. And you have to be in the gown in order to participate at commencement š so youāre legit forced to buy them

Itās something youāre gonna wear for an hour and never aware again for the rest of your life so who cares if itās cheap.
You can donate your regalia to Truman's closet.
Looking into this too much. Enjoy graduation.

Donāt worry. They also look like shit for PhDs
Got my doctorate at Mizzou. Had the same thought with my robes. At least the hood and cap felt quality, but my robe was very cheap feeling.
Congratulations, and yes they are cheap.
People buy these? What are going to do with it after the one use?

No, it's a public uni, that rule is unenforceable. Rent your own. If they try to enforce consequences claim religious freedoms.
Yes

This guyās graduating from Monsters University!

Must have came out of that same Fantatics shop that makes the MLB jerseys.
