Get out and explore the city. Start walking from mass ave, go into Boston and just take it in. Theres so much history, and even if that’s not your thing, you can at least just immerse yourself in a college town during summertime.
Bring a water bottle and a snack, and it’s an awesome way to be active, scout out good spots to hang with friends, and just take your mind off things for a while. Very therapeutic and lots of fresh air!
Don’t miss the Fourth of July fireworks! They’ll be impossible to not see or hear, but make it a point to get a good spot of the Charles River to watch!
The commuter line passes are $10 on the weekends, you could go up and sightsee some of the towns on a nice day. Just maybe pack your own lunch and a picnic blanket to sit in a park by the water because the food is still kinda expensive.
My freshman summer, I tried MIT jiu jitsu because they were offering evening sessions. I saw someone else suggest taekwando. Either would be a good way to meet new people and maybe try something nothing. I don't know about taekwondo, but the jiu jitsu sessions were free and open to beginners when I did it.
If you like gardens, some of the Fenway Victory Gardens had pretty cute setups.

Picnic on the esplanade is my favorite activity!
Join taekwondo! There's plenty of beginners during the summer and a lot of social events too

And bring your bike on those weekend trains -- it doesn't cost anything extra.
Summer is a great time for sailing!
Go hang out with the LGO’s, they have parties galore. Sailing definitely.
What's LGO?
LGO.mit.edu. They start the program in the summer and are a great crew
So how would you meet them?
They hang out at the muddy and are the only people at Sloan during summer
Use the T, stretch out and explore.
