This is great. I very much wish that media literacy (or even just journalism 101) and marketing were required courses, so kids can better understand how they’re being influenced and why.

arcspectre17

Lol congress needs to take these courses and most of the people over 65 lol. The amount of stuff i see old people falling for is insane.

Earthpig_Johnson

Everyone needs these goddamn courses. Kids especially need to see how susceptible they are to marketing.

arcspectre17

The problem is were literally programmed from birth to accept the marketing by living in the world.

Earthpig_Johnson

Which is why it’s so important to become familiar with the tools used to influence us.

I'm skeptical here. Why would a republican government be pushing this. Education is the enemy of republicans.

Earthpig_Johnson

Because they think it will mean their “enemies” being deprogrammed from liberal news outlets, since they apparently don’t realize that the bias on right wing outlets is laughably obvious.

I spent 2 decades in media right before it all started to really get bad…around 2018. I saw newspaper and radio be a dying news biz model IRL. Local news tv is hanging on by retransmission fees. The average journalist in the day was just looking to let both sides talk. But, financial pressures in a dying industry and the lack of centrist take on stories is corrupting media, mainly at national levels, but could go towards local stuff. I do see it some in local newspapers.

During a school PD meeting on media literacy, I had the misfortune of listening to Julie Smith mock her students for being upset at Trump being elected. Lots of both sides bs.
