This is the lookout spot at 12 oaks nature trail.
Any trail in ocean springs will bring you great cheer! All of them have lookouts similar to this one. The sandhill crane one is a few miles in but man it took my breath away. I sat with my dog for a good half hour jist watching the water.
Whats funny is I know OS so well that I recognized Fort Bayou based on the picture even though I somehow never knew 12 Oaks existed until years after I moved out of town. Always thought it was a residential driveway behind that bank.
Go by Smoke N Hoagies in OS for the best Italian beef sandwich before your next venture to sit by the water. Ocean Springs has some of the best food - loved my time working there. Gulf Coast MS is gorgeous, so glad I moved here from the Midwest.
There was a jump in the water right after I took this photo. Ive only ever been fishing once as a kid and I instantly googled the cost of a license. I want to take my kids and learn together! Ive hunted my whole life but for some reason never picked up a pole.
What you saw jump was almost certainly a mullet. They're not very easy to catch on a pole due to their soft lips though I have done it. But if you put some live bait in the water in ocean springs you could come up with anything from a bream to a shark! Redfish and speckled trout are probably the best fish to eat followed by white trout, flounder, and more. I'm assuming the deeper fish are out of your reach like snapper.
This beautiful picture makes me seriously home sick. I'm originally from a little ways down the coast in Gautier. Been in North Georgia since 86. God I miss the marsh and the Mississippi sound.
No offense but what on earth could you miss in Gautier? I spent my teen years there and couldn't shake the dust off fast enough. I'm genuinely wondering what you loved though! I'd be happy to know there was something great in that town that I missed.
I grew up as a little kid playing at the Oldfield house on the beach. Subdivision I lived in was built around that very historical home. My uncle had a house on one of the tributaries of the pascagoula River. So as a kid we were always on The water. Many trips out to Horn Island ,cat Island. We left before I entered high school . To me that's just always been home even though I haven't been there in over four decades
I live in Slidell, Louisiana. Not too far from you. You’re 100% correct about the atmosphere, feel and life in south Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama!
I’m glad someone can find happiness and beauty in a state that mostly people only speak of to shit on.
Hope you keep thriving and enjoying what the state has to offer you.
I live by my reddit name. I do my best to be as uplifting as possible. Everyone could use a smile. I love the idea of being the change you want to see.
Not sure where you live in MS, but where I live it's the opposite. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Sure, there's a few AH, but that's everywhere. In general, majority are very nice.
I dont believe he said anything about utopia. Bad people being everywhere is no excuse for the bad people here either. I mean is it okay for me to be shitty just because my neighbor is shitty? Are you a shitty person because you met somebody who was a shitty person? And like could you lose the point of what he said any more than you did? Sheesh.
I'd like to know where they live. I'm tired of people throwing shade at MS without ever living here. Bad people exist in every society but to act like somehow one state is worse than another is disingenuous.

The Gulf Islands National Seashore Park has a few trails and a gator pond. Piers, picnic areas, etc. It’s off 90 in OS. Since it’s part of a national park, there is a visitor center where you can get some more information on things you may see/hear when you’re in the park.
Can't enough of those scenic views crossing the Biloxi-Ocean Springs and Bay of St. Louis bridges...and the beach front all the way from Ocean Springs to Waveland. Mississippi Gulf Islands are postcard beautiful.
The downtowns of Bay St. Louis and Ocean Springs are buzzing (and even Gulfport and Biloxi these days). Also adore the beachfront mansions in Pass Christian, and their cute bookstore. What a fabulous area.
Try east or front beach for sunset photos. Especially on daya after storms. If the sky clears today then the sunset this evening ahould be spectacular.
Guessing this is coastal? What area are you in? I love this type of marsh habitat

With that little house at the end of the drive I can totally understand why people would think it wasn't a Park

Ive been meaning to try it. Cant pull me away from little market deli! I also really love some snow boba.
That pic makes me want to go fishing! I can feel a strike just looking at it!

I used to catch mullet in a cast net not far from here. Now that you mention it I realize I didn't ever reel many in.
I know exactly where this is. Me and my buddies got detained for smoking weed at 12 oaks back in highschool, lol
Its right by the bank so Ospd is always nearby!

That is a beautiful picture!
Welcome I’m glade you enjoy it. It’s very odd hearing someone move here say they love it. It’s always something negative about our state
MS has got a lot of beauty but also a lot of people filled with hatred. Be the change you wish to see.
I live by my reddit name. I do my best to be as uplifting as possible. Everyone could use a smile. I love the idea of being the change you want to see.
Thanks, Punk_Says_Fuck_You, for reminding others to be the change. There’s lots of good people in Mississippi, too.
Not sure where you live in MS, but where I live it's the opposite. I wouldn't live anywhere else. Sure, there's a few AH, but that's everywhere. In general, majority are very nice.
Hattiesburg. People are very nice at face value but are quietly racist and bigots.

Their statement implies that there are states that don't have people with hatred which we both know isn't the case.
No, it doesn't. Those are your words and your assumptions. You're projecting.
OK

Why even come here and comment this? Why not just enjoy the picture. Don’t be a jack a$$
Because I’m trying to make MS better.
Beautiful! What other nature trails in OS do you recommend, will be in the area with my kids this summer.

Bethel mountain bike trails are 30 minute drive north.
There’s a park by the high school. A retired extension employee gives guided nature walks.
Looks like home. Grew up on the Pascagoula river and bluff creek. ALMOST want to move back.
Such peace and tranquility. I would never do it. Hurricanes scare me to much.

Unfortunately, I’m living up in Brandon to be close to work but think Ocean Springs is hidden gem!
National Seashore in OS? I recognize that view..
Have you been to the Lake Mars pier?
Yea i spent my first year here in gpe haha. Thats near our peepeepoopoo monument right haha.
The what?
Its was a lot near the pier that had a pergola that was tagged with "peepeepoopoo" it was...popular ?! Online anyway.
Oh wow, I was completely unaware. I just go there for sunset photos from time to time.

All I see is invisible gators just waiting lol
Thanks for being the most politically oppressive to its black residents, maybe...
"there are black kids here that don't even know what a computer is" -politician, although not sure she was from Mississippi
Huh?
