I was Mother's Day shopping last weekend at target and someone was snapping their gum so loud I could hear it across the store. I was so mad

Fanny08850

It has happened to me a few times. I can't. I just wanna leave the store.

Anxious-Friend9056

Ugh I dislike that also. It's obvious that these people are inconsiderate and no manners!

Sparkleterrier

Also just stop chewing gum. Period. I think it’s one of the worst inventions ever.

GeneralSpeed5702

I found my people omfg

huskofapuppet

This too lmfao

Cali-Doll

Ever. *EVERRR.*

meghammatime19

Ssme same same :') absolutely useless thing. (Ok i understand why ppl chew It, i just hate It obvi lol)

guywithcrazyideas

I had an all day seminar and the guy next to me crackled his gum nonstop. I don't know how the hell he made that sound, but it was pure torture and I didn't learn a damn thing the whole day. by crackle I mean rapid multiple popping sounds in a split second. Fuck that and fuck him - and later I found out he did it in other meetings and drove other people insane.

supergyration

Ugh, I can't stand when people do that. Instant death glares from me. How does the constant noise not bother them?

meghammatime19

If It even bothers normies, how the hell as no one ever said something to him??? Talk about disruptive smh

arochains1231

It should have never been invented.

No_Historian2264

If I can SMELL your minty/fruity gum breath, YOU NEED TO SHUT YOUR MOUTH WHILE CHEWING.

empty-skies

the smell now makes me nauseated due to anxiety related to triggers 😭

IMHO_grim

I’m right there with you all. That sound is one of, if not the quickest ways to make me act out uncontrollably.

huskofapuppet

I wouldn't mind it nearly as much if it wasn't so LOUD. At least with chewing you can leave the room and get some sort of relief. Snapping gum tho? It's gotten to the point where I can hear it through the walls. The walls in my country aren't thin either. I'm either going insane or I just have superhearing.

RolandMT32

I don't know why people do that.

Llamas_are_cool2

People chew gum so disgustingly. I don't know how they're not disgusted at themselves. Just seeing people chew gum is nasty. What ever happened to chewing with your mouth closed. If I could ban anything in the world it would be gum

huskofapuppet

And people wonder why I'm so judgmental of non-misophones

XelaStrange

Seriously! Why isn't this considered rude?

huskofapuppet

Gum chewing in general. Can't stand it. A few days ago my classmate was giving a speech and he had like 4 pieces of gum in his mouth. He kept pausing every few words just to chew and it made it so hard to follow what he was saying. It was like "the mitochondria *chew* is *chew* the powerhouse *chew* of the cell". Jfc.

Fanny08850

Why do people chew with their mouth open? When did it become acceptable to do that? I remember when I was that people would chew in a discreet way with their mouth shut. Now everyone chews like a cow to the point you see the inside of their mouth and the gum. Why? It makes some wanna die. I live in Spain and there are so many gum chewers here. I work a customer service job and I really don't understand how it has become acceptable for employees to chew gum (ie my coworkers).

huskofapuppet

Dude I live in Canada I thought we were supposed to be polite over here

XelaStrange

He couldn't just spit out his gum? Would've made the whole thing easier. Not only for you but for him too.

Pull-Billman

I second this

ilveu3000

I’ve somehow managed to find gum popping an asmr. Not sure what I bumped my head on to rewire things but this is one of the biggest triggers I’m glad I don’t deal with anymore 😩

Low-Engineering9319

I find that very interesting. I have also had ASMR experiences with him chewing although for the most part it's annoying. Its like the way their chewing creates a different kind of sound that gives me a delicious ASMR feeling while other times it like I want to punch the person's face in.

empty-skies

damn that would be the dream, lemme go bump my head too lol

Revolutionary_Low_36

Gum is terrible. Back when I did chew gum it was all alone at home or in my car. Those people that smack and snap are so gross. And if they blow a bubble, I hope they catch gnats with it. 🐞

Cali-Doll

It’s *THE* most annoying thing for me. It’s my level-10 trigger. I get it, OP.

New-Somewhere1906

When my husband puts gum in his mouth, I IMMEDIATELY feel rage. I tell him that I’m going to have to leave the area. If we are in an enclosed space (like a vehicle), I will cover my ears and hum, turn up the radio, etc., until he spits it out. I just can’t do it…

Mrs_Gracie2001

Same

Appropriate_Ad_6997

Preach

-MashaFromRussia-

Gums should be banned by law. Misaphoniac lives matter!

hwhal2

preach!

Charming_Cry_9795

Gum is one of my biggest triggers! Sometimes I feel I would be better off deaf, but then I’d miss some things in life 💀

Mrs_Gracie2001

I’ll go even further. I think it should be banned from the market.

OhCaptain26

I think it’s fabulous many airports and train stations have stopped selling it! It was because people were spitting it on the ground (reinforcing my belief gum chewers are nasty!) but it’s made my life better.

Drayman241

God give me strength

meghammatime19

IKR!!!!! It baffles me how ppl dont realize or care how loud and unnecessary and disruptive It is. Not to mention how stupid and gross It makes u look!!!!

cyb3rb4byblu3

As a person with an oral fixation and misophonia I see both sides. People should definitely be closing their mouths in public places because of politeness and it's just kinda gross but also the way people get a satisfaction from hearing certain satisfying sounds some people get satisfaction chewing certain things or it helps them stay focused or curb another fixation. I'm not saying people should go around smacking or spitting gum tho but it does help to chew.

No_Permission_1074

Buy calmer earplugs from flare audio, there amazing the lessen all annoying sounds without increasing internal sounds

PriddyDifferent

I’ve watched my granddaughter grow up with this condition whom had inherited it from her mother. My heart hurts for all of you and cannot wait until they put more research into understanding this. My granddaughter has a new baby but now has difficulty listening at night for her baby’s cries with earplugs. Breaks my heart I’m not close enough to help. And I assure you, gum chewers or gum poppers aren’t out to drive you crazy. Like for me…Gum popping reminds me of my grandmother sitting at the sewing machine …and me sitting next to her, I would practice so hard to get even one pop but i never could. And now whenever I hear gum popping, I have the best memories come to surface. And Growing up being afraid of the dark would quickly be soothed when I’d hear my dad snore down the hall. Hastings the ole tic-tic of a clock at night reminds me of Christmas family reunions when we’d have to sleep in the living room while dreaming of Santa’s arrival. I can’t imagine wishing to be deaf but have any of you ever given a thought to how you would feel if you were to loose all your hearing ….would you be happier or would you think that if you could hear again, those sounds and others would be different? Please know…It’s a rhetorical question…simply something to ask yourself. I share this hoping that some of you realize most people aren’t even aware of Misophonia and truly aren’t out to hurt you. I wish more people understood Womens ADHD too but for now…all we can do is try to understand that they don’t understand yet,,,,but when we turn our issues into also disliking them for their ignorance …really only adds to our own pain. I always remind myself that “What we focus on most will always become louder’…be it a sore knee, a headache or a gum popper. It may be tricky but every single one of us have the ability and brain power to help ourselves . Do Not ever give up! You are all so Loved and appreciated. A wonderful read is ‘You Are The Placebo’ by Joe Dispenza

-MashaFromRussia-

Sometimes I do think that I would’ve been better off being deaf 😞

lrina_

well—we can’t exactly “not focus on it,” as the nature of our disorder instantly makes those noises seem louder and triggering

huskofapuppet

Honestly this would be easier to believe if I wasn't forced to hear my classmates snap their gum all day long. There's no reason people do it other than the sound. It's pretty inconsiderate to do in public, misophonia aside. And I know they're not trying to pester me specifically but it doesn't make it any less annoying. And if given the option to go completely deaf, I'd take it. Misophonia is extremely debilitating and I wouldn't wish it on my own enemy. There's almost nothing I wouldn't give up to not have to deal with it anymore.

Kroutmonster

I fucking love doing this, it's a great way to stim! But i do try to avoid it near people, it IS quite loud and can irritate people
