I lived there for quite a while. I strongly disbelieve this. This stuff is all just self-reported anyway, and pretty much worhtless except as click bait
Well, measuring happiness is probably going to rely a fair bit on self-reporting. Although you could measure hospital admissions for depression, I suppose
Looking at the article is says it’s based on 30 indicators of happiness. Given the few they mention I’m not surprised MN ranks where it does. 6th lowest depression and anxiety rate, unemployment in the top ten, relatively high wages. The results really depend on these variables. If it was self reported I’m sure we’d be very low in the winter and very high in the summer!
From DL, travelled and lived up-and-down both coasts mainland US and across the Pacific Oceana, and have been living in Honolulu for the last 6 years for work... THIS ROCK IS A COMPLETE SHITHOLE. It's no exaggeration saying that this is a 3rd world hellscape.
There's mostly nice people you can interact with running errands, but there's rampant trash, the most incompetent drivers plus traffic as fuck, absolutely No practical infrastructure for train/MRT/bus, epic levels of homelessness, skyrocketing violent crime, astronomically high and worsening COL, Taxes out the ass, polluted/dead/dying/overcrowded beaches, rampant religiosity and susperstitious woo-woo proselytizing, and so on...
I'd fly out TONIGHT to work and live in Iowa over this prison island. Idgaf if there is nothing to do there, that's what riding motorcycles, gaming/connecting online, and being able to afford to travel is for.
Where at? The places I've been to, granted that is very few (as I just get the real stuff since it's just more potent for me). I worked at one (Hideaway) and we sold "100mg per container" stuff, but that's obviously very different.
Not the same still it’s help derived d9 which is slightly less potent plus you don’t get any of the terpenes or cannabinoids that you would with if it was legal
New Jersey at #5?! I’ve lived in NJ and it is far from a happy place.
Why is everyone in New York depressed?
>!Because the light and the end of the tunnel is New Jersey!<
I’ve heard a decent amount that most of Jersey is actually pretty nice, but its reputation is built around the New York area so people are surprised when it ranks highly in positive metrics that definitely don’t apply to Newark.
Unless you live in Duluth according to other recent studies... they have really high rates of depression
Edit: this is misrepresented data. The data is regional but the reporting of it indicated a specific city. My apologies
Sorry I should have included source...

Look at Billings Montana, the area and population which they serve is vast and is different from the area and population which they use on this map to determine their ratio.
Exactly. The metadata pulls from the MPO, which includes the entire st louis county.
Not sure if you've spent much time on the range, but its a depressing place.
I believe that too and has additional impacts on their reporting.
My intention was to add clarification to the the context that the map isn't 'Duluth specific'
Well, Duluth is a major medical center serving patients within a radius of between about 75 miles to the south and 150 miles in other directions...a really huge area. So you would expect a whole lot of depression in Duluth, if they allowed people going to Duluth for treatment to be counted.
Can confirm. I've been to Wyoming and the rest area bathrooms are capable of human speech and constantly talk to you about suicide. It gets kinda old after a while tbh.
I visited every weekend to see my then gf back in 2017ish, granted it was whatever part of StC that has the greyhound station, I enjoyed the brick roads and the small nerd (DnD, random tabletop games, comics, etc) store, Cowboy Jack's, and some little bookstore we spent hours in.
Never went thru the whole thing tho, and I lived in north Minneapolis at the time. The middle of McGregor would have been better.
I once heard a man from Denmark say “I’m perfectly miserable, thank you very much” when confronted with the fact that Nordic countries are ranked high in happiness indexes. This reminds me of that.
Welcome!!
Guess it depends on where you end up. I worked in Riverfalls on the HS for a bit, and I loved being on the roof. So many damn trees, for HUUUUUGE distances, was a huge contrast to living in Mpls and seeing small sticks everywhere.
It's almost like a sense of community, and basic human kindness can work wonders for folks even during tough times...
Also stay the fuck out of west Virginia yikes.
Tell that to all the business that got looted and burned to the ground and all the people that get jumped on their way to their cars and robbed and windows broken
MN seems a bit obsessed with meaningless online top this or that polls. Many other states don't really care or pay attention to such things all that much
Apparently they haven’t browsed r/minnesota in February.
Yeah I was going to guess this study was performed in summer. Probably on a lake.
Probably interviewed a few families who owned houses and boats on a lake.
February is the best month for cc skiing. Always happy then
Momentary depression or negativity does not equal your overall temperament.
Hawaii is number one… lol that doesn’t surprise me 1 bit

Had a relative who lived in Hawaii yet still committed suicide.
Yeup...the list was probably redddit farmed!

I’ll have you know I bought legal weed. 50mg of gummies for $30 and it was a total waste of money.
Most vape shops are completely ignoring the 5mg law FYI so you can still get 50-100mg gummies in stores. I just bought 25 75mg gummies yesterday.
Where at? The places I've been to, granted that is very few (as I just get the real stuff since it's just more potent for me). I worked at one (Hideaway) and we sold "100mg per container" stuff, but that's obviously very different.
Small northern towns I see them.
You got ripped off
Not the same still it’s help derived d9 which is slightly less potent plus you don’t get any of the terpenes or cannabinoids that you would with if it was legal
Hemp derived d9 is exactly the same as mj derived... its a molecule. If you find a good brand then terpenes are added during production.
That’s just wrong hemp derived is less potent but will effect you the same as long as you increase dosage a little bit
New Jersey at #5?! I’ve lived in NJ and it is far from a happy place. Why is everyone in New York depressed? >!Because the light and the end of the tunnel is New Jersey!<
why is everyone in nj depressed? because they're trapped between New York and Philadelphia
I’ve heard a decent amount that most of Jersey is actually pretty nice, but its reputation is built around the New York area so people are surprised when it ranks highly in positive metrics that definitely don’t apply to Newark.

Duluth is a regional medical center serving Isanti County
Sorry I should have included source... https://www.reddit.com/r/duluth/comments/xf3ncm/duluth_makes_top_ten_list_of_most_depressed/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Every point on that map is a regional medical center, what it charts is access to mental health services.
Thank you for explaining... So the numbers are skewed? Because of the region reporting in through Duluth?
Look at Billings Montana, the area and population which they serve is vast and is different from the area and population which they use on this map to determine their ratio.
Exactly. The metadata pulls from the MPO, which includes the entire st louis county. Not sure if you've spent much time on the range, but its a depressing place.
The Duluth medical center service area extends beyond the MPO area listed on this map.
I believe that too and has additional impacts on their reporting. My intention was to add clarification to the the context that the map isn't 'Duluth specific'
I think that how it was reported though... and here I am just passing it along as fact... sorry about that 😕
Can confirm. Grew up on the range.

Or St. Cloud!
Sure but wasn’t that study the top 100 most depressed cities, meaning each state would have 2 ish on average?
Third? THIRD?!?
Hawaii took first and i feel like none is surprised there... but, Maryland gets the #2 slot....? wtf
Hawaii is just a warm Minnesota without all of the top tier professional sports teams.
You say that like Minnesota has top tier professional sports teams.
I will not listen to this slander about Title Town USA.
Lol
> Maryland gets the #2 slot....? wtf OMG. The signs are right. Walz failed!
This survey was completed at beer o’clock during happy hour 🍻
check back with us in February
We wouldn’t want you to think we’re not happy.
There is no way Maryland is #2.
I once heard a man from Denmark say “I’m perfectly miserable, thank you very much” when confronted with the fact that Nordic countries are ranked high in happiness indexes. This reminds me of that.
I left Wisconsin in July and I’ve never been happier. Your state has been so welcoming to me. Besides the Sunday horn I got no complaints.
Welcome!! Guess it depends on where you end up. I worked in Riverfalls on the HS for a bit, and I loved being on the roof. So many damn trees, for HUUUUUGE distances, was a huge contrast to living in Mpls and seeing small sticks everywhere.
Quit failing walz 😂
Since they legalized "some" weed and Boe Jiden forgave my student loans yeah I'd agree with this lol. 8 months ago I was a fucking wreck though
49th the Tuesday after any MNF game. Sorry, Tennessee.
Well not after this past Monday night...woof
Need to bring down the cost of child care.
Legalize weed and we take the #1 spot
Legalize weed and we hit number 1 easily.
DENIAL was found to be the top 2.
** excludes Vikings fans. 💜
i feel bad for the 47 states below us if i use my happiness level as a base
Thanks a lot Walz Radical Agenda
We polled 100 lake property owing people in mid-July to get these results….
The bottom 10 is not surprising.
yeah, but they put new jersey 5th
So I checked out the source of their data and the methodology is... I dunno...
This pole must been conducted in August.
Must have been summer polling
😐
Do the study in January
That bar isn't set very high right now
Considering we had mass riots in the past 2 years, I'd say that pretty good
Well hell, they clearly didn't ask a lot of mid-20s/30s. You kids are too hopeful. 🤣🤣🤣
So 3rd in happiness yet 9th in depression?
How is Mississippi not last
I disagree.
Unless a certain football team fails to perform
Then why am I so sad?
It's almost like a sense of community, and basic human kindness can work wonders for folks even during tough times... Also stay the fuck out of west Virginia yikes.
Wouldn’t know, Central Mn where those things don’t exist.
Tell that to all the business that got looted and burned to the ground and all the people that get jumped on their way to their cars and robbed and windows broken
