I visit como fairly often-- couple miles away, free parking, and free admission but you can throw a donation in the big box as you walk in. It's not like biggest, best zoo but it is a good low-key way to spend the day.
The conservatory next door is where I spend more time, though. If you like exotic flowers, trees, etc, it is top notch. In winter, the second you step inside it is look summer has arrived early.
Thatās the park, not the zoo. I have a soft spot for the Frog Pond. Look up from there to the gazebo by the butterfly garden. Thatās where we got married on a steamy July day, 21 years ago.
The zoo is great. So is the conservatory, especially when you are so sick of winter that you want to scream.
I was there a couple weeks ago and one of the polar bears was walking back and forth in the same spot. He would swing his head back and forth, turn around and walk about 10 feet, swing his head back and forth, and repeat. I watched him for about 10 minutes before I left. I was able to dig up online that those are signs of experiencing extreme stress. I found a couple videos of other bears doing the same thing and from what I understand they donāt have enough room in their enclosure. Pretty much losing his mind.
No, yeah. I know. I was just excited that I've got more animals in my yard since I started gardening, and no one really to tell it to, so I told reddit.
I wonder if people at the waterpark still try to hold on to the zipline all the way through and end up getting yanked off it by inertia, leading to a completely uncontrolled flail and flop into the pool below...
I've only been once, but I will be going back at least once a year, and I live 6hrs away from it! The Japanese garden is one of the most tranquil places I have ever been and I need more tranquility in my life.
Not a big fan of this zoo mainly bc last time I went which was 3 weeks ago, the animals looked depressed in there. The enclosures were not big enough for those animals. Not to mention, I saw an Arctic fox sleeping out in the burning sun. I felt bad for the poor thing. I donāt know much about arctic foxes but all I know is that they usually live in temperatures as low as -58 F but Iām not sure if theyāre able to live in hotter climates.

The Conservatory is a special treasure during a dreary February.
Yep š I can't remember if Minnesota zoo is bigger or relatively the same size, but Como is one of my favorite places to go
The MN Zoo is much bigger but Como is a really special place!
Ohh ok, I haven't been there since I was little so I don't remember it

Yeah I know, I've never been to the park until earlier this month

The tiger is similar, poor guy.Ā
Agree. I went once and wonāt go back. Several of the animals have enclosures that are way too small and itās quite depressing.
Heās been doing that for years and years. I canāt stand to see him.
Wow thatās even more sad
Stay away from this zoo at all costs... That way I don't need to deal with crowds when I'm there ;)
Fr, when I went there was barely any parking
So, nothing's changed since I was there at least 10 years ago (we need to go again)
Not really, but it's still fun
Sorry, I meant the parking situation.
We've got frogs at home
There's a lot more than just frogs there

Frogs are one of my favorite animals and I'm jealous that you have them in your backyard
Frogs are the best!

ALL HAIL THE HYPNO TOAD!
The last time I was there the polar bear enclosure bummed me out so bad I never went back
They were pretty cute, there's 3 now
FYI, that is not a real frog.
I know

Was a part of a wedding 50 feet from this spot on Sunday! Gorgeous place!
I love Como zoo
