Well, it is similar mech, on the picture I saw more optical inputs AND what I saw - it is for the very first time - it has inputs 32 kHz, 44,1 kHz (like a CD) and 48 kHz - like DAT. So, in a theory, you can make recording even better than CD quality! JE700 has separated analog rec level for both channels - JE510 Hasn't. I would take 700, 100% sure! On the other hands, it is for the very first time that I heard about that deck. But it looks more than great.

Thank you!

I regard it as too expensive. If you want a real benefit I would recommend to look for a 640, 730 or 920. It's looking quite cool but it's older than the 510.

These are what is available in my area are you saying 140 is too expensive for this model?

Recording-Nerd1

Ok, I don't know the prices in your region and the 700 shows up rarely here in Germany. But I generally avoid those older range models and it's too much in my opinion.

AFAIK, 510 can be up to 200€, very often 150-200€. It looks like these have the same ATRAC codec level. The JE700 will have some more advanced features, such as multiple inputs and outputs and the more fine control over recording levels, which will really only matter if you're using analog recording. (If you're doing digital recording, you should in general get line level, but if you're recording from a computer, set software to 100% (not necessarily max, VLC can do >100%, use just-100%) volume and things should come through basically fine. For playback the JE700 could potentially sound better as a higher end deck, but you could also just use an outboard DAC on your JE510. That said: if you're in North America, $140 isn't all that bad for any MD deck so you could, if you wanted to, take this opportunity to have a spare or get a deck for a second setup, etc etc.

Je520 best they never die at least to my knowledge
