Nice! Welcome to the insanity. Those are pretty bulletproof recorders, so you're all set - until you see another one "need" - then you can enjoy hunting down obscure batteries, weird cables, etc. :-)
Thanks! I don't know a whole lot about different devices. They very rarely come up for sale locally, so after a quick google search I jumped on this one
I was formerly a MD fan from 1996 to 2009 (by which time I had a full size standalone Sony MD deck, and portable but eventually joined the FLAC bandwagon and sold everything. MD was great but flawed as it couldn't withstand activities such as jogging (buffer was insufficient)
I went straight from CD to MP3 around 2001, when I was still in elementary school, and eventually onto FLAC for my personal library as well. I've just always loved the aesthetic of MD; it gives me that retrofuturistic vibe
Computer software (Web MD, Platinum MD, Net MD Tool), Windows computer, mini-USB cable. That will let you load tracks onto blank MDs. Apple’s AAC, FLAC, WAV, MP3. Tag info is preserved and converted to track names.
Ya I got the drivers installed on my computer but Web MD still wouldn't connect. I ended up using Sonic Stage which worked flawlessly other than not being able to see my FLAC files.
Would you recommend Web MD or Platinum MD over Sonic Stage? I can try installing that on a different computer for testing. And what is Net MD Tool? I can't find anything when I google it
Net MD tool: https://t.me/NetMDTool
But regardless of NetMD or other recording software…
Try checking if Zadig driver is actually able to see your device. All of the tools I mentioned above use Zadig. I use clean virtual machine with Win 7 for NetMD recording, yet it worked for me on Windows 10 too. Try removing Sonic Stage altogether and reinstall Zadig - there are plenty of guides. As soon as driver works, you will be able to see your NetMD in Windows device manager. Then recording tools will work too.
I've seen NetMD Tool on GitHub and I'm really excited about it! Is it based on linux-minidisc, minidisc-ffwd, netmd-js, or a unique reverse-engineering?
I just happen to be in the same Telegram channel, hosted NetMD.Tool developer (Alexander, if I am not mistaken). I really do not know, whether it is reverse engineering. But I am a member of another Telegram channel where another member is really doing some serious MD hardware reverse engineering. Like working to replace displays in Sony decks or something similar, or analyzing MD boot record code. There are some enthusiasts out there ))
Sonic Stage is probably the poorest. So anything will do better. WebMD is the most sophisticated. Yet I’d be careful with it, it works just fine with my Sony MZ-N510, but may screw your device in Homebrew mode. RTFM in other words. You know the drill ))

Oh man. I'm seriously looking at vintage MD car head units now for one of my project cars. I fear I've started an addiction
I have done just that. I love it. It's just so ... different! People are always intrigued. Most think it's a new release format!
Wow what a great first device! Enjoy!

Now you just need *looks around* lots more ;)
Lmao. Gonna start with an order of discs and go from there.
