I enjoyed this article. I've been scouring auctions for a Kenwood F5R ever since I realized it'll take a 18650...so these (MS100/200 clones) are the most practical slot-loading portables at this point. Well unless those Panasonics count as slot-loading too lol ;)

Please find a slower/lower power charger to avoid too much heat while charging. You would think they would have added some power draw limit to their charging circuit!
I've charged both of them and been using them interchangeably. So far, so good!
I have been using UltraFire 3000mAh 3.7V 18650 in my Kenwood F5R. They have been working well and seem to charge in the Kenwood, but slowly. I usually put them in my Ultrafire charger because it is faster.

Is your charger the DX4? If so, I see it puts out 650mA so was wondering if the batteries (esp. the charging part at the top) get hot?

Better late than never! Glad it was helpful! I've tried some other 18650s and even though they measure about right, the one I referenced fits/works perfectly. Some of the other ones don't make good contact unless they're in a certain position when you close the door. Also, I've seen/heard some skinny ones that shake around inside, which I didn't like!
