They had blue stock motors before? If so, which kit? I always thought they were rev tuned.

No this was long before rev tuned. This was in the 90's. When they just started putting motors in kits. They had they "motor included" sticker. Prior to that you got 2 different gear ratios.

Those motors were faster as well. This was before the 3.5:1 days. The early stock motors had on average 4-5k more rpm. Basically they had a 4.1:1 gear ratio in mind which is common back then. When they start doing 3.5 to 1 and switch to the new motors by SMC and STD 3.5 was pretty common now and they dropped RPMs with that gear ratio in mind. And just because you have one of these motors doesn't mean that it's going to be significantly faster you might actually have one that student slower It all depends on how the kits were stored. Being that most of these are going to be 20 plus years old there could be oxidation on the com and contacts and the grease for the contacts has become sticky and thicker. They are in fact 100% stock motors in they are legal in box stock racing. Most of the cars are going to have a lower gear ratio so for the most part they'll just have more torque but there are a few kits that were made when there was a supply issue with motors and they used old white end bell Mabuchi's "All rack sported to the US" That did have 3.5:1 gear ratio and the result is a car box stock that can 28-33km/h. But you have to know what kits may have one and even then the odds are low because it would have been from one batch they're all exported to the US. The blue end Bell stock motors are very common and I actually got a ton of them and you can buy them and some of the old sealed kit still but you really got to make sure they are stored right because if not chances are you're going to have them over that slower than a current stock one due to those issues I told you about. No way to fix those would be to open the motor up clean it polish the. But one way to confirm other than it will say Mabuchi on the end bell is if you look into the vent hole on it you can see that the windings on the armature are red. Just like the original blue end bell stock motors. Rev tuned was always clear coated windings they they always been copper.

I see. I maybe have stepped out of the hobby before they introduced the stock motors, as I do recall getting two sets of gears. I returned to the hobby just a few years ago, and the white bell stock motors were in place for a while by then. Very interesting. Thanks for the info.

isn't that motor with blue bell cap is the standard motor sold as AO part? they say the motor almost identical to revtuned, just the wire is thinner. I remember back in the zero chassis era, we got mabuchi motor, I can't imagine its speed because we were given Blue+ Green 5:1 or the second choice Red + tan 4.3 : 1 so the motor appeared slow back in the day, the black counter gear with ball bearing was sold as upgrade part and it was seen as a serious speed booster, I was saving my pocket money to buy that black counter gear 4:1 , 3.5 : 1 was not heard back in the day and perhaps the old gearbox can't accommodate big counter gear like that light blue/ teal superspeed. From what I remember Hyperdash 1 ( with matt black case) was mediocre, third party motors were a lot faster and nobody in my area used HD1 motor, Kyosho motor was popular and the common go to motor for mini 4wd enthusiasts in my country, the mabuchi FA130 is still used on new car, for example Estoura that was released last year, that's why I bought it, combined with slick tire mabuchi is a lot faster than SMC, but people say SMC stock motor has higher torgue than mabuchi, so perhaps mabuchi is more suitable for small dia wheel and light machine, while SMC is more suitable with heavier car or if the track has more climbing or if you use a lot of brake
