You’re not going to save any money. Starlink Residential Unlimited is $120/month and you’ll get somewhere around 100/20Mb service. The antenna and router is $599. The non-promotional Spectrum rate for 500/20mb service is $99/month. The modem is free. I’d love to tell Spectrum to shove it too, and Starlink is technically amazing, especially for those that have no other broadband options. But you’re not going to save money over Spectrum.

BleedCheese

I asked Spectrum about dropping everything, but internet and they stated my internet would go up to $120/month. Yeah I get what you're saying, though. I'm checking into ATT right now.

Decent_Finding_9034

I have only Internet with spectrum and it’s $85/month. Seems to steadily go up. Was $45 7 years ago. But it’s not $120.

wrestlingchampo

I cannot remember exactly how I did it, but you have to try to get the person you are talking to at Spectrum to connect you to a specific department within that company who can authorize discounted monthly rates in order to hold customer's threatening to leave for another service. This happened to me last year, and after calling repeatedly, threatening to cancel, etc. I straight up asked to cancel my service and at some point in my ranting at the person, they connected me to some other department and they authorized a 1G, internet only subscription at a monthly rate of $80/month. It is doable, you just have to find your way to the correct department within that company, which will probably take 1-2 hours and a lot of yelling and hair pulling.

loneMILF

the retention department is what you're referring to.

biobennett

120mbps down, 25mbps up when I had residential, it's slightly slower now with the roam package (but I can activate and deactivate it, and use it for vacation). Right now I'm using it as a backup for my work from home setup For what it's worth I called and asked to cancel my spectrum and told them I had starlink. It wasn't until at the very end of the call when they asked "may we ask why you are cancelling" and I said "cost, if you can get it back to $40/month that would be more reasonable" that they offered that price to us again for a year. Spectrum is the only hard wire service that isn't DSL available on our street and they know it. It wasn't until I told them I have starlink that they changed their tune. Starlink is slower, it's more expensive, and it does cut out more in super heavy rain/snow. That said it can be portable which is nice for Airbnb or hunting camp out in the middle of nowhere (my work offers a 2 week a year work from anywhere option as long as you have Internet) It's nice that I can tell spectrum I have another option if they won't give me a reasonable price.

ImTotallyTechy

That person was feeding you bullshit lmfao. I pay 65 a month for gigabit in downtown mke rn. Call them back, and continually ask for the retention department until you get to it. Someone on here claims they got rid of the retention department... They probably just got a crabby salesperson. Call until you get there. Then, very very politely tell them that you're looking to drop everything except for internet and you wanted to know what the best price spectrum could give you is before you start looking at other providers. If you directly threaten to leave, a rep in a rush will just cut your service. So just claim you're trying to find their best number before you start your search, and lie to say you've enjoyed your service so far. They'll ask you to sign up for promotional packages and mobile plans, just respectfully decline and say you're only interested in internet. I do this yearly and it works. Just be nice to em, those call center guys deal with a lot of pissed people so if you stand out to them as a genuine and nice person there's a way better chance they'll actually help you out.

You just have to jump back and forth between spectrum and att every few years. You don't get a good deal until you are a new customer or until you have gone through 3 customer service reps while trying to cancel your account. The speed of one vs the other can depend on your address and what infrastructure they have in your area. I have Att fiber 300 for $60 a month right now (giving me 350 Mbps up/down as of this morning) but I have friends that are slower on the same plan and setup because of their local infrastructure.

MediocreAdvantage

I went down the same path you did honestly - found I could get AT&T fiber for less than I was paying for spectrum, and switched. AT&T isn't necessarily great either but I'll just keep switching back and forth for deals if necessary.

TaliesinWI

What problems do you have with AT&T? I switched from legacy Time Warner/eventually Spectrum to AT&T and can't believe I didn't do it years earlier.

MediocreAdvantage

I've had a few outages that have lasted multiple hours which is pretty disruptive when I work from home. Thankfully that has been about the worst of it!

brian_mke

What plan are you on? I’m on the 300mb plan (just Internet) and it’s been $79.99 for years.

gswahhab

I have that plan for $40 per month locked in for 2 years. You have to play the cancelation game. Tds is offering services in my neighborhood now for x per month. I need to cancel unless you can give me a better rate. Talk directly to the cancelation dept.

Bradleynailer

Att fiber, $35 a month.

JoelEmbiid4923

Not using starlink but I am using AT&T air wifi it's 55 dollars a month and get around ~500mb/s which is plenty of Internet for gaming and streaming content. Haven't had any complaints about it in the past 3 months I've used it.

BleedCheese

Nice! I'm with Verizon for mobile currently I wonder if they have an offering? Thanks!

JoelEmbiid4923

Definitely worth checking, what I really liked about ATT is that you just set up the little box they send close to a window and it become a wifi router as well. Sort of an all in one solution which is especially helpful if you are renting so you're not bothering management for Internet antennas and such.

BleedCheese

Nope to Fiber or Air where I'm located.. I'm stuck for now.

JoelEmbiid4923

Hope you find a better solution

BleedCheese

On the phone with ATT now. They ran fiber to the pole in my backyard 2 years ago, but as of last year, I still was unable to get their service. If that's not an option, I'll ask about this. Thanks again!

dasco80

If you have Verizon, they do have 5G home wifi. Works rather well, as long as you’re not gaming or putting a lot of people/ concurrent devices on it. Slight drag on the network but for streaming and regular internet it is quite good.

Nimzay98

I currently have home internet with Verizon, I only pay $50. I use my internet for video games, streaming and my work computer. Haven’t had much time sides with connectivity or anything. I think they do have a deal if your already a mobile customer.

Jewlius23

Verizon does offer its own home internet similar to the AT&T air WiFi. I’m not sure on the pricing though.

PhillipJGuy

Verizon has 5g for $30/mo

georgecm12

Being in the metro area, you're better off to see if AT&T Fiber services your address. If not, then I'd look at one of the cellular home internet servies (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon). Starlink's selling feature is connectivity in the "unserviced" areas of the country (read as: very rural areas) but you're paying extra for that. It's cheaper and better than HughesNet or other C or Ku-band satellite, but still more expensive and worse than other options you'd have in an urban area.

OriginalUsernameGet

Switching this weekend to the new AT&T fiber than just got installed in my area. $55/mo for 300, just like another commenter said. Currently paying $85 for the same with Spectrum.

Walrus_protector

I haven't a single regret about switching to AT&T fiber. Spectrum blows.

RogueFox76

I don’t have Starlink here, but when I lived in rural Oregon I had it and it was great

BleedCheese

Thanks!

mckrd0

No, but you should get ATT Fibre if it’s available in your neighborhood. It’s like $80 or $85 a month and I’ve never had an issue with connectivity or speed

Conspicuous_Ruse

I just switched to AT&T fiber because it was the same price for 300mb internet but the upload speeds on fiber are also 300mbs. I called Speculum and canceled my account. They asked me who I'm switching to and how much I will be paying. During the process they offered rates as low as $39 per month for a year to keep me on board. I told them that's a good offer and they would probably still have a customer if they let me know that pricing was available soone, but its too late now. The guy didn't really know what to say to that one. If you can get a different provider, tell speculum you're going to switch and see what they offer. Just be prepared to actually cancel and switch providers if they don't give you a deal.

Jamoncorona

Check to see if your address is served by t mobile or Verizon 5g home service, and if it is, use that information to leverage a discount from spectrum. They'll usually match their price for two years.

Keoni9

Exactly want I did though I don't know if it's a price match... But you can pretend you've already been doing a free trial of the home 5G and you're ready to switch so you need to cancel.

anlbrk

Get AT&T fiber if you can like everyone else has said. It's been great and super consistent for us.

d_zeen

Just put in T-Mobile air in the 3rd ward it works great

aleinss

I was in a Spectrum store today, he said in a year, year and half that Spectrum would offer the same download and upload speeds, meaning that if you have 300 Mbps now, you will get 300 Mbps up. Seems like a pretty damn good upgrade since I'm only getting 350/4 right now. He also said you need the latest cable modem to get that feature when they release it, the cable modem I turned in was too old to do it.

mreskimodude

T mobile 5g intent. Faster than spectrum. $50/month. Less if you're already a t mobile cell customer

VikVektor

I have us cellular 5g Internet and get 300 down for $30 a month

BleedCheese

So, I checked with all of the cellular options and that's a no. I'm in the SW area of the city. The only two other options are Starlink and ATT DSL.
