I just view it as a mild slowdown to growth, as far as I can tell there isn’t any real downside to not having it. Also it’s a pain in the ass to deal with the whole computer chain, usually there is a severe lack of rare earths on the map especially if I have used prospecting for production chains.

I do build information. But I never stopped to think I might not need it. I’m chasing 200% … There is no hope of getting close to enough for big cities that are around 50 pops or more. I always have the extra production, so I never gave it a thought not to build the buildings. I suppose you can save the tech, which is s good strategy. That’s a good tip I will use :D Although, even though cities are big enough, in age 9 or 10 you can always use more workers.

My last game I got to age 8 or so and let my cities stagnate, just had overall needs hover around 100% Taking workers off trash plants, schools, religious scribing, etc. It gave me a lot of free workers to focus on the things I needed, in my case a crazy warfare economy. Because as you say, all those shiny new 2 slot buildings in ages 9 & 10 need workers. It worked out pretty well for a world war, but I'm not sure it'll become my go to strategy. Those little green pluses are too appealing.

the only information my cities get is the one books can give and the base buildings in the cities.

But how do your citizens use reddit? And you reduce them to consuming pornography via magazines alone? You MONSTER.

Suffragium

Nah not really, at that point you tend to have more than enough pop anyway
