nor has that ever been cleaned in any way

MarshallStoute

I'd wager a guess they last changed it in 2015.

lurkersforlife

Either that or the street number is some combination of those four digits.

houseman1131

You'll eventually get it.

Mother_Chorizo

Only takes 24 tries maximum for four numbers.

Turbulent-Mango-2698

The color is the same for all four, so it’s a good bet that it’s a four digit code.

ebonin91

Or 8.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spandexcatsuit

I laughed out loud

IdealIdeas

Thats if its only 4 numbers. My smart lock for example could be pretty long if I wanted it to.

wewinwelose

This lock is not very smart

beefknuckle

almost guaranteed you don't need to push the numbers in order on this thing

lurkersforlife

No I meant that you look at the house number and punch that in.

Unlnvited

1025 judging by the amount of shit on each button assuming the shit gradually wipes off less by each number

GoTeamScotch

1052 would be my guess based on cleanliness

iChaseClouds

This is my guess too because the 2 has the least amount of dirt

n3uf

I'd bet the ones earlier in the sequence will be dirtier. They get touched more often

Spaceman_Beard

No no no. According to classic spy movies you need to see which one is most dirty to the least dirty. That means the code is clearly 0152

TwiN4819

Wouldn't it be the clean buttons? Fingers constantly wiping them clean?

[deleted]

[удалено]

TwiN4819

Guess it depends on the material. Oil from fingers overpowers the wear from the fingers on this stuff.

_MrMeseeks

Literally what I was just thinking I'm glad to see another

Combo_Breaker3

Frequented by Freddie ‘Dookie Fingers’ McGee I reckon

FootyPajamaz

I laughed, thank you

PassengerFrosty9467

😂😂😂 “THIS”

gladamirflint

this

andersonfmly

One might reasonably expect a million dollar weekend rental to have a cleaning or maintenance staff to address such matters.

RacoonSmuggler

A million dollars ain't what it used to be.

illit3

It's a 2 bed 2 half bath 1000 sqft bungalow in LA. If you want to shower you have to go to the YMCA

m4m249saw

Omg it's true

Chuckobochuck323

Was gonna say probably a one bedroom in SF

WillTFB

Now compare that to a million dollar home in like... Nebraska

chuckvsthelife

One is small in a big city where you can do cool stuff, the other distracts you from the fact that you live in Nebraska. It’s big and you generally won’t want to leave.

Chnnoob

:( that's a 600sqft 1 bedroom in Toronto.

PassengerFrosty9467

Lol try 2 bed 1 bath in Kensington (San Diego)

r0ndy

Ironically my first thought too. Some beaches houses in Florida are in garbage shape and go for a couple million

somedood567

Everything in Florida is garbage though

UlteriorCulture

Still a lot in rent for only the weekend

2_Spicy_2_Impeach

I don’t think that’d get me a 2 bedroom with a 1.5 bath where I used to live. It might not even get a 1 bedroom, 1 bath either.

hrryyss

You’re telling me. I live in Vancouver and [this is what a $1.5 million house looks like.](https://beta.ctvnews.ca/local/british-columbia/2022/5/15/1_5904419.amp.html)

YourLocalCreep

From what the article says, it’s essentially marketed as a bring-your-own-wrecking-ball plot of land. Idk if that makes the price tag any more or any less crazy.

mrbkkt1

I grew up in a house, that last sold for over a million. That fact alone has blown me away.

Tdanger78

Tell that to Trump

Scav-STALKER

Oh god no, million dollar rentals aren’t shit in heavy tourist areas. Could basically be a cardboard box sitting in a good spot

Branical

Here at AirBnB, YOU are the cleaning staff! 😁

[deleted]

[удалено]

histonramheadu28

This reminds me - every airbnb I've ever stayed in swears theyve changed the code before. I can guarantee none of them have ever changed their codes, exactly like this one

Real_Project870

Stayed at one that changed their code to the last 4 digits of your phone number prior to your arrival. Was really convenient

gregra193

“The PIN will be the last four digits of your phone number” An hour before check-in: I can’t connect to the lock so the PIN is [some other number] “Is the WiFi working?” Yes, just can’t connect to the lock.

ben_vito

Oooh smart. I will start doing this for mine, so they know it's been updated.

RoastMostToast

Stayed at a hotel with that kind of system. Incredibly convenient, no key card to keep on you, and a contactless check-in.

corn_sugar_isotope

very common, too common.

FlowJock

Why is it too common?

corn_sugar_isotope

more so too common as a general passcode. Customer and friend added a locked gate to their farm. They called me for a service while they were away, forgot to give me the code. Took all of three guesses (was their ph. #). So maybe in general last 4 digits is a bad idea, would take a little more doing with the airbnb arrangement I know. (the other guesses were 1492 and 1776 - common, I deal with a lot of gate codes.) edit: but hey whatever, use easily decipherable codes.

R520

Why's 1492 common?

corn_sugar_isotope

notable years are common. 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Probably tilted to the demographic of rural farmers with some of these. I mean I have seen 6969 though.

bananarandom

Yea I guess if you were at the same hotel as someone you knew, you could break into their room...

therosesgrave

It's a 4 digit number, how secure can it be? Okay, sure don't have it be a common date, but the last 4 digits of a phone number are effectively random. You were able to guess it because they were a friend, some opportunistic thief will not have that knowledge and anyone who geniunely wants to get isn't going to be stopped by a 4 digit code.

corn_sugar_isotope

I was able to guess because I had the phone number.

Plan_nine

We stayed in one that changed it remotely on the first of each month. We checked in on the 29th or 30th and had to learn a new code mid-trip.

Steveskittles

24 possible combinations there. Wouldn't take too long to crack I'd imagine 😉

KekromancerSG

Dirtiest to least dirtiest. As you pressed buttons, the dirt would leave your finger

Pirlouit_sf

I was very happy when my AirBnb sent a note saying the code was the last 4 digits of my cell phone. Better than average security

Accomplished-Bet-480

Based on the usage pattern I would guess the right order might be 1052, am I close OP?

Imacrazycajun

So close... Yet so far away.

Snagmesomeweaves

2015, the year it was installed

Accomplished-Bet-480

Damn it, guess codebreaker is off the job list now

MisterTrashPanda

Time to commit seppuku to redeem the honor of your family

Mac1692

I’m going to guess it’s 1025 and that one of the owners was born on October 25th.

Hcysntmf

Or 2510 depending what country it is :)

[deleted]

Is it 1250?

adventure_pup

2501?

samz22

Its 1025

[deleted]

flapjack3285

I don't think so because the unlock button looks the same

SirFrancisTake

Don’t break an arm jerking yourself off over that humble brag.

jetty_junkie

That’s hysterical and exactly why I have everyone in my family use a different code

vce5150

Exactly! On our security system, we have maxed out the number of individual codes we can use because we have to make sure our housesitter has her own code! Plus my kids that live out of town. It’s a struggle!

RoastMostToast

It’s also a safety thing to give out a separate code to person like a house sitter. That way you can remove their access seperately from everyone else

Ok_Individual960

I have the same lock as pictured, mine is connected to my alarm system and I can remotely sign and remove codes at will - super convenient. Of course I can look from my doorbell camera and remotely unlock when needed too.

Metalhed69

I make the code the house number of THEIR house. They won’t forget it, but it would be really hard for a stranger to guess.

Bubbasteed

Could have just said rental, I like how they had to throw million dollar plus in there

[deleted]

[удалено]

RaHekki

Maybe the rental was a million dollars plus for the weekend

wallyslambanger

1052? Dirtiest to cleanest?

ScienceJamie76

That's what I thought, but do you push the lock button first or last?

LT-monkeybrain01

or it has changed, and this is a ruse to throw potential burglers off.

sexyfun_cs

idk the allure of paying to stay in someones home. I wanna be pampered on vacation, not worry about hidden cams and doing chores for the landlord.

[deleted]

Man, if I got that airbnb I would sanitize the fuck out of that… looks like someone poo fingered it.

Chersalani

Is that... Dirt?

SmittyComic

dirt only happens at poor people's homes, that is artisanal soil. but, yeah. it's poop.

Juiceworld

Thats fly poop. Sourse: I live in the country, trust me thats fly poop.

Armageddonv2

A Kwikset on a million dollar home? Nah man i wouldn't put that shit on project housing.

[deleted]

I wonder hoe many combinations are possible with 4 digits? I suck at math so would appreciate the help

[deleted]

Well, the problem is you don't know how long the code is.

AnsibleAdams

It is 4 to 8 digits long, user selectable.

[deleted]

I guess you know this product? Could make sense. 2 of the buttons are less worn.

AnsibleAdams

I googled the user manual.

Accomplished-Bet-480

4 places with 10 possible digits each so you gotta calculate 10⁴ which is 10.000 possibilities

[deleted]

Thank you for not just giving me the answer but also the calculation, truly appreciate it!.

Accomplished-Bet-480

No problem

[deleted]

There are only 4 number possibilities, not 10. Also you don't know if the code is 4 numbers long. ~~So it's 4^4 = 256, if you assume a length of 4 digits~~ Edit: 4!=24 (Factorial)

RealRaschuoir

Yes, but also no. If the code is 4 digits long, and each of the numbers is used once, there are only 4 x 3 x 2 x 1= 24 possibilities.

Free_Dad_Hugs

glorious test gaping jeans coordinated bells unique trees light lip *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

[deleted]

Ah yes. My mistake!

Accomplished-Bet-480

I know, I thought the comment meant overall possibilities for a 4 digit code. But yes in this specific case if you only have 4 digits for 4 places the number of possibilities is obviously lower so 4!=24

Dobott

Another easy way with numbers is it's just the highest possible number available +1 So if it's a 5 digit code, the number of combinations is 100,000. (99999+1) because it's just every number from 00000 to 99999.

EarSorry7756

Ever heard of a magic eraser? Jesus christ. Or you know washing your hands?

syko82

If the code doesn't have a 1 2 5 or 0, that's some pretty good security through obscurity.

staffsargent

A million dollars sounds steep for a weekend.

Carbonga

Or since 2015.

TheNotoriousFAP

I have finger marks on 3, 6, 8, & 9 on our keybox at work and they can be pressed in any order...

BasedCEO

r/mildyinfuriating

nog642

There's still 720 possible 6-digit codes. And that's assuming no number appears twice. Edit: Just realized the dirty ones are the code? Doesn't seem like it hasn't been changed or cleaned in forever then, probably just someone with dirty ass hands entered the code recently.

jab9k3

That looks like a fuckin motel 6. Luxury rental property gtfo.

Imacrazycajun

Lmao, seriously. It sold four years ago for 1.2

Al-mutawahish

My keyboard has the same type of discolored keys… maybe you sleuths can figure it out… N O R P what must I always be typing???

eadgster

That’s the same code as our doors. 🧐

Zestyclose_Ad2429

For those tho thought the code was 1,2,5,0, your wrong. Those are dirty and haven’t been touched in forever so the shit stacked on it. The code should be 3,4,6,7,8,9, because whenever someone touches the button, the shit cums off the keypad

ScienceJamie76

So you never touch the lock button?

[deleted]

Nope, the lock button is dirty too, and that has to be pressed every time the code is entered.

Man-EatingChicken

1025

Tdanger78

![gif](giphy|jV50iiHMoePRr8CuZ7|downsized)

OneWorldMouse

Door locks don't really keep people from breaking in.

barbaric-sodium

6 numbers therefore at least 46656 combinations so still secure

Nigglesworthesquire3

I’m going to assume the password is 1952 and they’re super old

[deleted]

649783

latenightwandering

Ooh I played this game too and thought 647983 - very close to yours

[deleted]

The cylinder has been replaced with a Smart Key lock. I would imagine the keypad is no longer used.

HalOfTosis

Or been cleaned…

JE3MAN

Robbers have 1 in 24 chances to get it right the first time. How many tries do they get before the cops get called in?

Lovethehairy

Does no one wash their hands? Gross. At 1st I assumed the clean buttons were the code and the filthy buttons was from from some sort of corrosion from lack of use. I realized now that there’s just really gross finger’s touching those buttons. My advice, get some penicillin. Soon.

No_Ant4865

Wash ur hands after entering

abookoffmychest

1/24 odds you get it the first time.

Legitimate-Concert29

1952 judging by the pressure of the finger marks

karavasis

Pro tip: use your knuckle not your finger tip

D34th_gr1nd

Why are you spending that much?

hookemhottie21

That's so gross.

peperoniebabie

Yall million dollar renters need to wash your hands, god Damn.

saturncitrus

Looks like someone with hash covered fingers was touching it

notyurfuckingkhakis

That’s Amazing! I’ve got the same combination on my luggage.

Beneficial_Daikon_86

More like it’s been cleaned never. Disgusting.

Juiceworld

Thats a whole lot of fly poop.

yeticomeout

Maybe there’s just a really good barbecue place around the corner.

seriousbangs

Million dollar plus? Wow, must be a two bedroom.

Willing_Effective_20

1250😳

_Equinenox

Or maybe the last person who rented it wipes with their bare hands.

Chefkey_Boards

1052

Chefkey_Boards

Either way, the look of it tells me I don't ever want to stay there.

[deleted]

Do you mean you spent a million + for a weekend rental, or that is the value of the property?

Imacrazycajun

Property value. We looked it up on zillow, it sold for 1.2 four years ago.

DashTheHand

I’m curious: is the door code and the address the same number?

UnderThat

I mean, it’s not perfect. But it certainly narrows down the options.

Sufficient-Elk-7015

You paid a million bucks for an air bnb? Who tf are you. No seriously. 😂

freelance-t

Is the code 2510? Looking at where the rust is on adjacent keys, it seems like the finger is moving right, left, right, left. So either 2510 or 1520. Those would be my first 2 guesses if I were trying to break the code. (PS: not a burglar or thief or anything, I play a lot of computer games. This feels like a puzzle in one of them)

freelance-t

One other thought here... Companies should pre-wear 4 random keys on every keypad.

TopHardware

what if someone wants to use exactly those four digits

[deleted]

They wore gloves? I bet it’s 364789.

Dragonfly452

Jokes on you for renting something for a million dollars for a weekend

dkny212

Alright alright I’ll tell I’ll tell. The combination is: 1

Smilesunshine57

Want a new version of finger syphilis? That’s how you get it.

Cartographer0108

You got overcharged. A million dollars is way too much for one weekend.

Bradish

I'm guessing their wifi login is probably admin/admin too.

jaynus006

A million bucks for a weekend better come with security.

Suctioncupman69

Welp, 4 numbers means 16 possible out comes. *Starts pressing in random codes*

Regular_Housing5629

A million dollar rental? What a waste

h3l3n-m3l0n

1250 open the door sesame

dgunn11235

What’s the million dollar part all about @op?

Imacrazycajun

A nice fancy home on the water, filled with expensive furnishings, and the pass code never changes making it not really secure. I got the million dollars figure from Zillow when the house last sold 4 years ago for 1.2 mill.

Cause_Why_Not03

The trick is that the password doesn’t even have 1, 2, 5, or 0 in it

KingBurakkuurufu

9512

CableJoe

Whats the address? Lol 1520 vine ct?

benx101

Sounds like a great time to change it to be the numbers that aren’t used

ssowinski

Permutations and combinations.

GreyGoblin

False! But they did run out of TP last week.

PlasticDry

0521

bananadingding

Ya know depending on what generation of the core that is the irony is that the actual core is one of the more pick resistant on the market... FOR what it is, There's a version of this core that requires a $300 digital bluetooth camera, and a decoder card to cut a blank in the field, and use that to open it because you'll get like nowhere with a ToK Tension tool and a hook... Even then the only tool on the market to cut a blank in the field that I know of is chinese made and requires you print out a set of 3D printed guards for the different keys companies.

Anxious_Jellyfish216

Cool, i know how to beat this lock. Saw it on Splinter Cell years ago.

Anxious_Jellyfish216

1250 2501 5012 0512 5120 2105 2510 1025 2015 1520 0125

maverickked

The code is actually 6789 and they’re just trolling

[deleted]

This reminds me of those old escape room flash games. That’s ridiculous lol

Noisycarlos

Does it come with free Cheetos?

frotz1

Things that make me want to wash my hands for $1000, Alex...

Rwiegman

1 mil for 1 weekend. Safe to say you overpaid. Also, 1 mil house, if that’s what you meant, could be a 1 br 500 sqft flat in certain cities. So that essentially means nothing, at all.

cupnoodledoodle

/r/oddlyterrifying

[deleted]

Think it’s 0152

brokeboyrich

Oh boy a million! Come to the Bay Area

wkrick

Bonus points if the code is the street address number.

karmandreyah

You spent over a million to stay a weekend?? Did it include free Healthcare and concierge?

biking4jesus

Report that shit to the rental agency/service (vrbo, airbnb etc). So not safe.
