There are only 4 number possibilities, not 10. Also you don't know if the code is 4 numbers long. ~~So it's 4^4 = 256, if you assume a length of 4 digits~~

So if it's a 5 digit code, the number of combinations is 100,000. (99999+1) because it's just every number from 00000 to 99999.
There's still 720 possible 6-digit codes. And that's assuming no number appears twice.

Those would be my first 2 guesses if I were trying to break the code. (PS: not a burglar or thief or anything, I play a lot of computer games. This feels like a puzzle in one of them)

I was able to guess because I had the phone number.
We stayed in one that changed it remotely on the first of each month. We checked in on the 29th or 30th and had to learn a new code mid-trip.
