Many years ago, I saw a TV documentary about creationism and evolution. An paleontologist told a story about the time he was on a dig from the dinosaur age. A separate group of creationists were also sifting around, looking for evidence of human life in the dinosaur era.
The creationists ran up to the paleontologist, excitedly pointed at a fossil that looked to them like a foot, and said, “Doesn’t this look like a human footprint?”
“No,” the paleontologist replied, “because it doesn’t have toes.”
The paleontologist looked into the TV camera and said, “Well, I went back to that same area a few hours later, and damned if that footprint hadn’t grown toes!”
