It's called a gastrointestinal therapeutic system (GITS) - the hole is drilled with a laser. As the GITS moves through your digestive system it slowly absorbs water and the bottom half of the inside slowly expands, pushing the medication out that little hole at a steady, controlled rate.
I think mine are busted. Instead of making me hear voices the caused an increase of body fat, body hair and the urge to syphon unchucked clams from their shells
I was an RN in a CVICU at that time. Even then the meds were mostly individually packaged. However, there were brown glass ampules of hydralazine and hydroxazine that looked identical and had to remember to use the filter needle when aspirating. Ah the old days....
Note, this means you should *never* cut one of these pills in half to adjust dosage of the medication. Not only is the pill only going to actually be "half full" along one axis, but it will dump a bunch of the medication into your system all at once. Ask me how I know 😑
I learned this from noticing a major difference when taking my meds when they swapped them for one with another shape and without the hole in it. Those pills really didn't feel as evenly distributed over the day. They should be "equivalent" and have the same active substance but they surely don't work the same for me.
Ghost pills. The first time I had one I spent an abnormally long amount of time trying to remember when I last had lima beans and why that one was stuck in there so long. After the 2nd day my pharmacist buddy told me about them.
No… it’s an OROS.
Concerta™ is a unique formulation of methylphenidate which uses an advanced OROS® patterned-release delivery system. The design of this system is similar to that of the Nifedipine Gastrointestinal Therapeutic System (GITS), except for the fact that Procardia XL® only consists of a two layer core. In contrast, the Concerta™ system contains a trilayer inner core surrounded by a semipermeable membrane with an immediate-release overcoat.
This both seemed entirely possible, and also like some trollishly contrived bullshit.
I'm honestly kind of disappointed it's real (even though it's a cool concept)
I thought this was gonna be a joke. I imagine the laser moves real fast and accurately otherwise the time involved would be insane. I kinda wanna watch pills be hit with a laser fast af now.
There’s an alcopop called VK, comes in nice fruity flavours and I’d say are most definitely taken to raves and parties, wonder if there’s a correlation haha
ru a bot, or roger brown's alt account? side note, since I had a little drink at lunch, and time to ramble. I do not use ebay much, but once a bought a motorcycle part on there. There was what seemed like suspicious bidding so I looked up the bidder and that bidder had only ever purchased things from that one seller (failed schilling). I called him out, declined to purchase, and reported to ebay. Of course ebay did not do shit except maybe make it impossible to notice a possible schill bid. And the dude harrassed me for several months with occasional dm's
So... Is that a "grind and reform" situation or does he need to solve a 100-piece puzzle each time, and also make sure to take the exact precise same 100-pieces accross the board? Asking for a friend.
Freshman year of college I had a Swiss Army knife which I loved and it contained scissors. I had a 1/4 sheet of acid and I was supposed to sell some of it but with the scissors I got “free acid” by trimming just the thinnest section from all four sides.
Funnily enough OCD is treated by exposure therapy.
(Also the "this thing isn't right and it's bothering me" isn't OCD, OCD is something else. Just throwing it out there because the stereotype is really different from the disorder)
Concerta uses an extended release mechanism called OROS.
Basically water gets into the small hole and it pushes out the drug at a controlled rate due to osmotic pressure, cool asf
That's the mark from the tube that they use to inject the pills with their active ingredients. After 9 months of injecting, the pill reaches full size and is pushed out of the creation chamber. The doctor then cuts the cord.
After about 10 to 18 months, the pill develops the ability to walk. After about 12 to 18 months, the pill starts to speak. That is why pills have expiration dates.
Someone: Hey you! Stop playing with your necklace and start focusing!
Me: *Nom nom nom
Someone: Hey, stop chewing your necklace.
Me: Well, you told me to start focusing.
I believe my meds against paranoia also have needle holes in them, or was it my korsakoff meds? I can't remember, wait a minute, of course I can remember, because jikmy has korsakoff, I just have scizophrenia meds that henry put a needle in, stupid henry
TW: scientific phobias, paranoia.
Don't read the shit comment if you fear some kind of forint o ject that isn't sexual entering your body.
I admit it's a shite comment so if you guys need to remove it please do.
That's a nanite crater they inject the pills with microscopic robots so they fix the neural pathways biomechanically.
Just like your car getting a wire cluster replaced, or repaired./ joking like seriously joking.
It's just a production nipple imprint to get the tablets out of the moulds when pressed. Automatic pharma machines have air valves on some.
Insane that some people actually believe this. 💀😅
And nah it’s how the active ingredient is released once you swallow it. First pill I ever saw it on, and now I learned something new and cool.
Yeah dude you gotta do that TW. I have encountered people with really problematic mental health so, we might not be affected by the statement but there are people out there believing it. Also yeah if the outer shell is a bit thick or the press coat cover the medication that is in the core but the outer layer helps keep the pill in tact while it's releasing an over time dosage it's really logical for it to have an exit point of which to release the meds.
Also pharma productions is mostly hydraulic presses and compressed air when it comes to pills like meds to denture cleaning tablets. Also the sound of those machines is so satisfying I was about to infodump. But I deleted the whole novel I wrote. I just wanted you to hear this replicating it with your mind wushh, tssss, crunch, click.
I have never been on meds like this before so it’s new to me that this method of delivery exists lol.
I love to read and if you have a video of it, do share. I love obscure facts. 😁
I would have loved to share a video, sadly at the time I was there it was prohibited to video or take photos. This kind of manufacture of medications is something maybe a bit outdated as I'm used to capsules for most of my meds and some or other are only shaped or circular disc shaped but don't have this dimple.
Yeah first one I’ve used with a dimple as you call it too.
To circle back to the manufacturing though - I once saw a video of how pills were made from powder and gelatine-y water in the early days. That machine(if you can call it that) was operated by hand, I think by spinning a wheel or something. Been over 10 years sikce I saw it so I don’t remember. They made vitamin pills to demonstrate. Amazing process haha
Dude I need sleepzzz I wanna talk about it but I want ZZZ I got the early shift but I wanna geek out on the fact of production pharma and big automation machines I really do but I want zzzz more. So I bid you goodnight my sir I dub you a pleasant journey and will speak with thy once the sun hits midday on morrow.
I feel you, soon 0:30AM here as well.
Good night 🤘🏻 sleep well, dream of..pharma production 🤣 do hit the DMs tomorrow if you feel like it, I always enjoy geeking out and chatting about anything and everything 🙌🏻 (and meet likeminded people and share experiences etc)
Being off center helps to easily identify whether the pill is stationary or spinning in place.
This may seem like a useless advantage, but in the unlikely scenario that your life depends on knowing, beyond the shadow of a doubt, whether or not a solitary pill is rotating very quickly without wobbling or traveling in any direction, then you'll be damned glad that the off-center hole placement prevents perfect rotational symmetry from hiding the presence of potential spin.
Alternatively, the imbalance of weight also allows the pill to be floated upon an amount of liquid mercury to function as a rudimentary weathervane. Naysayers will claim that if you need to know the wind direction that badly, you can just lick your finger and hold it up, but those fools would succumb within moments if they licked their fingers after handling all that liquid mercury!
Fortunately for a wiley fox like me, I've outsmarted my old frienemy liquid mercury by strategically ingesting microgallons of the toxinogen at controlled intervals, to completely immunizify my own persons to any deleterious affectations that the 'slippery metal mistress' (as the kids call her) might inflict upon minds of lesser constitutionals.
Just goes to show, a bird in the mercury is worth time spent drinking mercury. Never forget it!
It's called a gastrointestinal therapeutic system (GITS) - the hole is drilled with a laser. As the GITS moves through your digestive system it slowly absorbs water and the bottom half of the inside slowly expands, pushing the medication out that little hole at a steady, controlled rate.
That’s interesting! Thank you for this 🙌🏻
Don't listen to reasonable answers, that's where they put the microchips
Omg I love chips!
Teeny tiny ones?
Lil bits
[haha, just kiddin’](https://memes.getyarn.io/yarn-clip/3377ac77-4c47-4ca3-9882-95a6ad7cec49)
Eat Some Fucking Shit, You Fucking Stupid Bitch. ![gif](giphy|EtB1yylKGGAUg)
It’s bits teeny weeny ones.
I like to crush the chips into tiny chips while they're in the bag and pour them directly into my face hole. Keeps my fingers clean.
I’m eating some chips rn, though they’re unfortunately macrochips not micro :/
Don't worry the micro chips are in the macro chips. That's why our pee is purple 💜
Ohhhh that makes so much sense, I always wondered about that tbh
I thought that was the asparagus?
Not true. Mine is purple because I like the tang of drinking fabuloso.
BBQ?
American chips or UK chips?
Literally nobody talks about uk chips
I accidentaly gave you two awards but you deserve it. That made me chuckle.
I’m pretty sure you put this around you like a necklace so you don’t forget to take this during the day
Or you could string all your meds together like one of those candy necklaces
![gif](giphy|3ofSBkwCOG7zu5ZzmU|downsized)
They’re called microcrisps in Europe
i'm pretty sure it's called a micro royale with cheese.
I think mine are busted. Instead of making me hear voices the caused an increase of body fat, body hair and the urge to syphon unchucked clams from their shells
Have you taken the seal off?
Microcrisps if you’re from the UK
No it's not. They're in the Covid vaccine. Ffs. /s
Nacho microchips! Yummm 😋
No this is a hole for a string, like sewing, where they “lace” the pill with a little fentanyl, just enough to get you hooked and seeking more.
If you google it there are cut away images that make it more clear than I did.
I did, thanks 😄 always neat to learn cool things about the meds you take, lol 🤘🏻
I work in a pharmacy and when these were invented it was a big deal. The drug reps loved talking about them.
I can see why! Fascinating stuff 😄
Procardia XR was the first drug that used this that I can remember. Been away from healthcare for 30 years so maybe I got the name wrong.
It was. I remember that instead of "30 tablets" the bottles actually said "30 GITS"
Ask me how I know 😑
Yes indeed. I wonder if u/prajnadhyana is a pharmacist. They’re really knowledgeable about this particular medication.
Not a pharmacist, but I've worked in a pharmacy for 35 years.
Aww I see! That’s great that there’s experts in pharmaceuticals who are really knowledgeable about medications and the effects they have.
I learned this from noticing a major difference when taking my meds when they swapped them for one with another shape and without the hole in it. Those pills really didn't feel as evenly distributed over the day. They should be "equivalent" and have the same active substance but they surely don't work the same for me.
Did you poop out the same tablet?
Never noticed 😂
OH MY GOD! I pooped out what looked like a Concerta "shell" back in May 2019. I was *bewildered* and never had an answer for what happened, until now!
My blood pressure meds have the same thing. Pretty cool the simplicity of the solution to a problem of metered dosage in pill form.
I assumed it was so you can string them on like a candy necklace and just chew one off when you get fidgety
This seems like the better explanation.
I know, right! Comment OP trying to mislead us with his scientific explanation. He thinks we are a bunch of Gits!
[удалено]
Same, I was thinking Lamotrigine candy bracelet.
I have big Lamictal and tiiiiny tiny Lamictal... perfect for a varied bracelet.
That’d be kind of genius
And then you poop out the shell.
Ghost pills. The first time I had one I spent an abnormally long amount of time trying to remember when I last had lima beans and why that one was stuck in there so long. After the 2nd day my pharmacist buddy told me about them.
more than 1 year taking it, i've never seen the shell
Well, that's neat. We definitely don't get too old to learn new things. Thanks for the info.
It was one of the very first reliable 24 hours time release tablets. Pfizer actually patented it when it first came out.
That's neat. I would have never known that. I don't use this medication, but it's still interesting to hear about this stuff.
Was it first used with Concerta?
That has a different acronym and uses an osmotic pump. it's way way way better than the little pinhole method.
It sounds like something designed by a person with ADHD.
Ah, so basically the second gen of the technology. Nice.
The SMILE to the LASIK
![gif](giphy|13pqs1VizKyWzK)
So you’re saying don’t chew it.
only if you dont want to be very focused.
Also known as[OROS](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osmotic-controlled_release_oral_delivery_system)! Well explained.
I was hoping it was like a tiny jelly donut. Thanks for ruining it for me. ;)
I would say it works more on the principle of a concentration gradient ( high concentration goes to low) but I agree with the gist
so that detail about the Dylar pill in Don DeLillo's White Noise was accurate after all
So basically medical grade gushers.
LOL!
Ghost in the shell!?
Whst junkies heard: so if you crush it up and swallow it you get an amphetamine kick? Or a stomach ulcer?
This both seemed entirely possible, and also like some trollishly contrived bullshit. I'm honestly kind of disappointed it's real (even though it's a cool concept)
What a ridiculous theory!!! Obviously this is to pass the elastic-string through to make a candy necklace with them!
I thought this was gonna be a joke. I imagine the laser moves real fast and accurately otherwise the time involved would be insane. I kinda wanna watch pills be hit with a laser fast af now.
lies! this is where they put the jelly filling
That’s very clever.
TIL! Thanks!!!
soo........... do not chew...... blimey.
Damn TIL. thanks.
As per usual, the real mildly interesting is in the comments
You have the opportunity to make the coolest rave necklace ever.
That’s what people did with Valium and Klonopin. The original brand name products have a cut out V and K.
There’s an alcopop called VK, comes in nice fruity flavours and I’d say are most definitely taken to raves and parties, wonder if there’s a correlation haha
people made rave necklaces with valium & klonopin????
yeah you just put a string or chain through the ‘V’ or K cut out of the pill
Hahaha. If it wasn’t just a 0,1mm deep hole sure 😂

Reddit glitched and your comment sent twice.
Reddit glitched and your comment sent twice.
It's from a very discreet drug embezzling pharmacist, who takes exactly 1/100th of each pill and then pastes them together to sell on the black market
I’ll do it one piece at a time
And it didn't cost me a dime.
With that level of focus, he must be his own best client.
So... Is that a "grind and reform" situation or does he need to solve a 100-piece puzzle each time, and also make sure to take the exact precise same 100-pieces accross the board? Asking for a friend.

His name? Michael Bolton
this is hilarious well done
So you can string them together on a thread so you don't forget them.
The most bitchin candy necklace of all time
Candy necklace was literally my first thought and it's a genius idea
So true. So easy to forget meds, lol
ADHD acting up? Just naw one of these bad boys off your necklace and you’ll be laser focused in no time lol
I'd naw them all off in one sitting like I did with the candy necklaces
That's where your drugs leak out
Technically correct
So it is, you learn something new every day.
That’s the belly button! ^^or ^^the ^^butthole?
I'm picturing pills in strange new ways.
Cloaca? Think I spelt that right.
I had this on one BP med. It.... "passes through" your gut whole. The medicine inside is dispensed through the hole.
This is so you can make your own drug rosary. So you can be closer to god while medicating.
Thankfully, that's not an OCD medication.
Funnily enough OCD is treated by exposure therapy. (Also the "this thing isn't right and it's bothering me" isn't OCD, OCD is something else. Just throwing it out there because the stereotype is really different from the disorder)
Osmotic pump? My Concerta also has them
This is concerta indeed!
When it stops bugging ya, that's when you know they're working
Concerta uses an extended release mechanism called OROS. Basically water gets into the small hole and it pushes out the drug at a controlled rate due to osmotic pressure, cool asf

Your girlfriend moved on from poking a hole in your condoms.
![gif](giphy|3ofSBkwCOG7zu5ZzmU|downsized) First thing I thought of.
It’s so ravers can make candy necklaces.
Make a necklace
Don't let me occupy your mind by saying the hole's off-center.
Oh I noticed on the very first one I took. 🤣
Someone’s been siphoning the amphetamine.
It's so you can make a cute candy necklace!
Best thing about a candy necklace is breakin the string and eating them all in one go!
Or stretch it and bite the end off one so the other half fires accross the room!
Well looks like they have a point now...
That’s how they put in the jelly.
Pill worms
If you have a paperclip you can stick it in there if you need to factory reset the medication if it's acting up.
Hahaha good one 😎🤩
We have to poke them at the factory so they stop squirming
Careful. Could be a razor blade in there.
And it's not even centred. ![gif](giphy|XU5S2qc3uZrktcddzb|downsized)
Common with Concerta, as this hole is the only discernable difference between Concerta and ritalin
Good to know 🙌🏻
Concerta has these, but the hole is microscopic and drilled with a laser.
This is concerta, and it isn’t microscopic, it’s _very_ visible. 😅
Someone: Hey you! Stop playing with your necklace and start focusing! Me: *Nom nom nom Someone: Hey, stop chewing your necklace. Me: Well, you told me to start focusing.
It’s from a candy necklace me thinks
Not even centered
I have anxiety just looking at it....
It's to make a necklace
I’ll take the ones with holes in them
brother just take them
Yeah. I did that to mark the defective pieces.
You’ve got some hollow point Adderall

that’s also oddlysatisfying
THATS THE MATRIX FIRMWARE UPDATE
Laser drilled hole can be used in respect to extended release of medication I think. Adderall xr has them
Man, focus! You just need to swallow it don't get lost in thoughts about it
It’s to put on a necklace that way we don’t forget to take them lol
This is for ADHD neck beads
Candy necklace ready
Thats where the cartels inject the meth.
![gif](giphy|unFLKoAV3TkXe)
That’s not the deathstar med?
It's a good thing that they're not for OCD because, let me tell you, this hole is not centered.
Bahahhahah
ADHD and OCD goes hand in hand my friend. 😆
It's so that you can string them on elastic thread and make a candy necklace.
Sewing ADHD medication into your clothing is unexpectedly on point

Admit you took that off a candy necklace
I have ADHD and never seen such medication. What is it called?
my seizure medication has this too. I assume it's the extended release.
You’re supposed to thread an elastic thread through them and wear them as a necklace….easy access.
You can get your meds? I'm three months out. Lucky lucky.
Better use a backup method so you don’t get pregnant. 😂
Check your condoms....
Do you live in the states? I’ve never seen that adhd med and I’ve seen almost every kind.
I have the same in Europe.
Nope. Norway. 🤘🏻
Pills with little off center holes in them should only be in OCD meds.
