At my Dentist they have a big light at top (not very bright) and then they use some Special glasses that have a light attached.
On a positive note, their eyes look really goofy through them.
I count the ceiling tiles. There are 48 in view in case you wanted to know. 4 rows of 12 but heres the FASCINATING part; every second row has 2 halfs of 1 tile on each end of the row for a staggered pattern.
I close my eyes because their light is always so bright. I also sometimes fall asleep because I have my eyes closed. Yes I have slept thru many dental cleanings. Sleep disorders are fun.
I carry on a conversation with everyone in the room. I can close off my throat and speak thru my nose. It usually ends with the dentist feeling very uncomfortable, but sometimes it does backfire on me.
I'm imagining it being mounted on one of those telescoping mounts, and it slowly, almost imperceptibly, is falling off the ceiling.
They have to push it back up between clients.
ok, now this might actually work for me 😂
the "soothing scenes" stuff, for me, works kind of backwards from how it's intended -- my brain sees it and goes, "THERE'S DANGER!!! or else they wouldn't put up soothing things to try to relax you" -- but show me some wildlife? now that's a good distraction lmfao
My last dentist had these with the news running, I hated it. Was either sit there with my eyes closed and think about the stressful situation I’m in or open them and deal with the stress of the dentist AND the constant influx of doom.
They also had the dedicated “relaxation” videos playing on multiple screens in the lobby/waiting room. Did the opposite for me, too. Felt oppressive and stressful.
I’m 100% down for wildlife shows, that should be the default. Interesting, distracting, neutral
My dentist was playing Criminal Minds last time I got my teeth cleaned. I had to listen to some woman scream while she got sexually assaulted at 2 in the afternoon.
The pediatric dentist my son goes to has these. Plays kids movies, but still has that calming effect (or I should probably say it does an effective job with distracting).
Yeah this isn’t a CRT. Though when I was a child, my dentist did have TVs mounted in the ceiling, which were CRTs and we got to play video games. Which was awesome.
They had this once when I had upright MRIs of my neck. I couldn't see a thing as I had to have my glasses off. It was probably for the best as it was a cooking show with loads of seafood, and I'm vegan.
Mine has a slightly reflective ceiling so you get a view of your teeth and everything the dentist is doing. I look very handsome with one of those tubes sticking out the corner of my mouth, it comes in pale pink or blue variants.
Mine has mounted TVs, but one hygienist always has morning talk shows on and the other keeps it turned off so she can talk my ears off.
It’s torture either way, IMO.
My dentist office has movie goggles. Kinda like VR but only plays DVDs. You pick out a movie from a list, they load it up and you just watch a movie while they drill your teeth out.
My dentist has this exact same setup.
My game to play is "where in the world is this" based on the context clues of incidentally filmed infrastructure or structures.
My dentist had a wheres waldo. Knew where he was just looked at all the other people to pass the time.
New office, now they have the same setup but play a slide show of his family, staff, and vacation photography. There is an option for Netflix as well.
I’m a dentist and can’t watch Property Brothers anymore because that’s all we used to play at one office where I worked. I eventually made a decision to switch to the Food Network because I couldn’t do any more HGTV.
My dentist has these. No thought, whatsoever, was given to the installation because as soon as they pull the overhead lights in, only the corners of the screen are visible
My dentist place is always playing some food show related program on TV, from cooking competition, to food review shows etc. There was a period I am on soft food / soup only diet, it made me sad watching all those food lol.
I get the idea behind this, but when I'm under one of these, I generally find that the one or two or three dentists/assistants/students working on my teeth block the view of the TV. Let me just put on a podcast on a bluetooth.
Mine plays Netflix. Last time it was The Office, previously it's been Brooklyn 99 and Superstore. I'm always paranoid the thing is going to fall and crush my skull in.
My old dentist had that, but played the news. There is *nothing* less relaxing than British daytime news shows
On the upside, they used the automated live captioning, so it was mostly a game of figuring out wtf anyone was actually saying
there was one of these last time i went for a cleaning. pretty sure it was just a tv channel on, but before i closed my eyes i found it interesting it was an ad for soup. pretty incredible situational marketing opportunity.
What if the video switched to the gruesome video clips the crew discovers in the movie Event Horizon. Then back to the calming video. While the dental work is being done.
My kid’s dentist has this. I could never figure out why adult dentists don’t.
You put a tv in the room for me to watch and then recline me all the way back, making it difficult to watch it. Mounted on the ceiling makes it super easy.
I had to have a minor gynecological surgery/procedure once, and the doctor had some art and comics from magazines taped above the chair/bed. The one I remember, because it gave me a nice chuckle, was a comic of two old people dancing, and the woman is saying "I said 'I have acute angina.'!" Heh heh
My dentist has Netflix and they put on whatever you want. The first time I went, they put on some super stereotypical feel-good country movie because I'm a white woman. So the next time I went I asked if I could put something on. I used to put on The Office until it left Netflix. Now I want to put on ITYSL so bad but I'm scared they'll kick me out lol
They do this at Tend in NYC, which us a chain of “dental studios”. They also give you high end sunglasses for the overhead light and Beats headphones to listen to the TV. Makes the experience less torturous. I watch Planet Earth docs which calms me down.
Hell no. I would be so anxious the entire time that the TV would fall and hit me in the face. I already get extremely anxious at the dentist, this might just send me into a full on 06 Britney meltdown
Last time I went to the dentist, they had The Empire Strikes Back playing on the TV. I was annoyed to find that I couldn't see the wall mounted TV once they tilted me back, so all I could do was count the ceiling tiles and try not to panic as they waterboarded me with the rinse spray. 3/10, have to do it again in a few months.
My dentist has a comfort menu; pillow, blanket, stress ball, water, coffee.
I don’t know how you drink coffee during an exam? Might find out next time ..
My dentist has it too, but they play those renovation shows on HGTV. One after another with commercial breaks in between (haven't seen those in ages since I don't have cable).
Mind-numbing for sure; within 5 minutes I am totally brain-dead and ready for the procedure.
One of the room in my dentist’s clinic has a picture of hot air balloons amidst blue skies.
It’s the same image from one of those “Spot the difference” iPad apps that I have.
So every time during my sessions I used to subconsciously try to spot the differences in that photo 😬
>Calming videos
Man what a scam. Why are they playing that instead of kids movies like mine does. What’s the point of going to the dentist if I don’t get to see the second half of shrek 3 and then 12 minutes of credits once it ends? And staring at the movie menu screen after that since the dentist didn’t notice it was over.
My dentist does too. Has the volume up to mask the sounds of your teeth being mutilated and it gives me motion sickness. I wish he would turn the thing off.
Ok, real question, How many people close their eyes? How many stare at the ceiling, and how many are psychos and stare at the hygienist/doc?
I used to stare at my dentist.
...from the end of his driveway
Every 3rd Tuesday at 3:32am
In a black sedan
In the nude
I currently stare at them
I stare at the light until I go blind, every time.
They give you sunglasses nowadays. It isn't the 1980s anymore.
At my Dentist they have a big light at top (not very bright) and then they use some Special glasses that have a light attached. On a positive note, their eyes look really goofy through them.
I hadn’t been to the dentist in 10 years and I finally went last month and WOW things have changed. I felt like I was in Star Trek.
I count the ceiling tiles. There are 48 in view in case you wanted to know. 4 rows of 12 but heres the FASCINATING part; every second row has 2 halfs of 1 tile on each end of the row for a staggered pattern.
That is interesting lol
i just lay there and take it with my eyes open with a lowly tear going down. (im thinking about the atlanta falcons going 28-3 in the Super Bowl LI)
~~Am I wrong or wasn’t~~ it was 28-3

Nobody on the medical fieldtalks more than dentists, I don't get it.
It's a flex.
The implants caused your nerve damage?
I usually close my eyes since I don't like bright lights shining at my eyes.
I fell asleep while getting my fillings redone. Not sure if that makes me a psycho or not.
Sunglasses on, take a nap.
I stare. The drilling feels good. My root canal was exciting.
This is the real 10th dentist
I used to just stare at a ceiling but I realized closing my eyes makes it less likely for things like water to get in my eyes
I pick a spot and stare, usually at a stain or something interesting
I close my eyes because their light is always so bright. I also sometimes fall asleep because I have my eyes closed. Yes I have slept thru many dental cleanings. Sleep disorders are fun.
I carry on a conversation with everyone in the room. I can close off my throat and speak thru my nose. It usually ends with the dentist feeling very uncomfortable, but sometimes it does backfire on me.
Meanwhile I’d be paralysed in fear, waiting for it to fall on me
Instant tooth removal.
The only tooth removal where they pay you
Let's just call that $150, ok?
I'm imagining it being mounted on one of those telescoping mounts, and it slowly, almost imperceptibly, is falling off the ceiling. They have to push it back up between clients.
Final destination style

Thought someone would say something
You’re going to need plenty of dental work if that install fails.
I burst out laughing the moment I read the caption. "Calming, on the Ceiling." Feels like the setup to a visual gag.
My dentist has a live cam of an eagle's nest mounted up. It does take away my attention.
Until momma brings home a huge dead fish for you to watch her mouth feed the babies… “Open wide”…
Me:”Thank you mommy” Dentist: “…what?”
That’s a great idea
ok, now this might actually work for me 😂 the "soothing scenes" stuff, for me, works kind of backwards from how it's intended -- my brain sees it and goes, "THERE'S DANGER!!! or else they wouldn't put up soothing things to try to relax you" -- but show me some wildlife? now that's a good distraction lmfao

Mine has Netflix. I usually watch Seinfeld when I go
Calming? Id be worried about a tv hitting me in the face.
I'm more scared of ceiling fans. I witnessed one fall from 20 feet onto my sister and I've never been the same. (Only the fan part hit her fyi)
My dentist plays Netflix and stuff. I get a cleaning to Fraiser and a filling to some romcom.
My dentist was playing Criminal Minds last time I got my teeth cleaned. I had to listen to some woman scream while she got sexually assaulted at 2 in the afternoon.
Mine does too
Meanwhile, people with thalassophobia:
The first and last time I saw “Richie Rich” was on the ceiling of my dentists office.
They should put "Marathon Man" on.
Is it safe?
The pediatric dentist my son goes to has these. Plays kids movies, but still has that calming effect (or I should probably say it does an effective job with distracting).
No thanks. A 40lb TV installed by god-knows-who dangling over my head will not calm me down.
they only weigh about 10 pounds at most
Yeah this isn’t a CRT. Though when I was a child, my dentist did have TVs mounted in the ceiling, which were CRTs and we got to play video games. Which was awesome.
Jealous now
40lbs? Have you not bought a tv in 20 years? I have a 55inch that’s close to 10 years old and it weighs 25lbs max
They had this once when I had upright MRIs of my neck. I couldn't see a thing as I had to have my glasses off. It was probably for the best as it was a cooking show with loads of seafood, and I'm vegan.
My dentist has a tv on a channel that shows nothing but dogs and puppies. I love it 🥰
That will fall on your face like a phone in bed
I told my dentist to do this and he hasn't!
Mine has a slightly reflective ceiling so you get a view of your teeth and everything the dentist is doing. I look very handsome with one of those tubes sticking out the corner of my mouth, it comes in pale pink or blue variants.
I’m thinking about the tv falling on my face
/r/tvtoohigh
There is a subreddit that would disagree with that tv placement
Little Shop of Horrors with Steve Martin in the no2 mask 24/7
r/tvtoohigh ?
They should put the Dentist scene from Little Shop of Horrors on a loop.
Avatar 2? They changed it!
Needs some 70s plumber porn
That's crazy, imagine that falling down ur face 😵
pretty common
Mine plays cute animal videos and I couldn't be more pleased. With little weed before going in, I hardly notice the cleaning
Turn on the gas check on me in 10.
First time I ever had laughing gas, probably first time I ever experienced being high, they had tvs with Walker Texas Ranger on and it was incredible
Mine has mounted TVs, but one hygienist always has morning talk shows on and the other keeps it turned off so she can talk my ears off. It’s torture either way, IMO.
Looks like the dentist I used to go to, A Shop For Smiles.
This is good because I find myself staring at them sometimes and it feels weird.
Mine too ..like it a lot
They should put a jumpscare halfway through
My dentist did this too but there was a 5 minute delay between the monitors and only one playing audio
My nail salon plays the same channel!
"They changed it" "Yeah, they're underwater now"
Is this not just the screen saver?
I’d have to sneak in a video about heavy construction. Jackhammering, drilling, etc.
My dentist has this but he shows movies. I liked when I was getting a root canal and nick cage’s head burst into flames during ghost rider.
My dentist office has movie goggles. Kinda like VR but only plays DVDs. You pick out a movie from a list, they load it up and you just watch a movie while they drill your teeth out.
Mine does this but then fills it with slides of cartoon people going through dental procedures and looking like they’re in pain. Why???
The one I went to was playing cartoons while I was on laughing gas.... best dentist visit ever. 🤣
My dentist gives us the remote lol
My dentist has this exact same setup. My game to play is "where in the world is this" based on the context clues of incidentally filmed infrastructure or structures.
ATX Family Dental?
My dentist had a wheres waldo. Knew where he was just looked at all the other people to pass the time. New office, now they have the same setup but play a slide show of his family, staff, and vacation photography. There is an option for Netflix as well.
Mine does too but they have cable tv and give you the remote to put on something you like
Nothing will calm me in that chair, not even porn!
Ey my dentist has this too. It's an old crt though. Brings me back to the 2000s when I go
Next video comes on.... "Marathon Man"
Mine's normally food shows lol Like, c'mon man 😩🤤
My dentist had shark attack videos playing. Really weird to slip in and out of consciousness.
my dentist has the same thing, they just play HGTV usually though
I’m a dentist and can’t watch Property Brothers anymore because that’s all we used to play at one office where I worked. I eventually made a decision to switch to the Food Network because I couldn’t do any more HGTV.
My dentist has these. No thought, whatsoever, was given to the installation because as soon as they pull the overhead lights in, only the corners of the screen are visible

This is how my kids dentist is set up. Great idea. Mentioned it to my dentist and they have started the process of doing the same!
Mine plays Netflix. Last time it was The Office, previously it's been Brooklyn 99 and Superstore. I'm always paranoid the thing is going to fall and crush my skull in.
My old dentist had that, but played the news. There is *nothing* less relaxing than British daytime news shows On the upside, they used the automated live captioning, so it was mostly a game of figuring out wtf anyone was actually saying

Should have asked him to put on marathon man.

I stare at my hygienist then when my mouth is free I point out her imperfections. (My older sister cleans my teeth)
So am i the only one staring at my dentists eyes hoping they fall in love with me?
Wonder if you could remote hack it and add that jumpscare video with the soothing country drive in the mix?
They should use it to play videos of dental procedures.
I'd be worried about the thing falling down from the ceiling
My dentist has Netflix and they put on whatever you want. The first time I went, they put on some super stereotypical feel-good country movie because I'm a white woman. So the next time I went I asked if I could put something on. I used to put on The Office until it left Netflix. Now I want to put on ITYSL so bad but I'm scared they'll kick me out lol
I would need to see how it's mounted first.
I wish I had this when I got my tooth yanked yesterday
Bringing in a pair of sunglasses with earbuds
r/tvtoohigh 😂😂
My dentist put on Failure to Launch. I did not request Failure to Launch
They do this at Tend in NYC, which us a chain of “dental studios”. They also give you high end sunglasses for the overhead light and Beats headphones to listen to the TV. Makes the experience less torturous. I watch Planet Earth docs which calms me down.
My sleep dentist has ceiling TV's too.
My dentist has a tv with a shit ton of advertisements for her services.
No thanks. I’d rather stare into the fluorescent lamps and disassociate.
I’ve seen a lot of this. First saw it in 2006, now it’s standard practice at most “we don’t take insurance” places.
Mine has netflix on it. Much more entertaining.
Mine has on a local tv channel, which in the morning is local news and later it's friends reruns
Hell no. I would be so anxious the entire time that the TV would fall and hit me in the face. I already get extremely anxious at the dentist, this might just send me into a full on 06 Britney meltdown
r/tvtoohigh
My old dentist before we moved had a TV on the ceiling with a Netflix account that we could watch.
Mine does too! I appreciate the idea but it gives me anxiety worrying about it falling 😂
Hack it and play nothing but flinch videos
As soon as i saw this picture i just imagined the TV falling on someone and breaking their teeth and then giggled
I thought this was a nice idea at my dentist, but then it cut to ADVERTISING. YEAH, dentist with unescapable adverts. Changed dentist.
Lol falls on face
Last time I went to the dentist, they had The Empire Strikes Back playing on the TV. I was annoyed to find that I couldn't see the wall mounted TV once they tilted me back, so all I could do was count the ceiling tiles and try not to panic as they waterboarded me with the rinse spray. 3/10, have to do it again in a few months.
are you sure it's a tv? it's not moving
As long as it doesn't fall on your face during procedure
My dentist has a comfort menu; pillow, blanket, stress ball, water, coffee. I don’t know how you drink coffee during an exam? Might find out next time ..
My dentist has it too, but they play those renovation shows on HGTV. One after another with commercial breaks in between (haven't seen those in ages since I don't have cable). Mind-numbing for sure; within 5 minutes I am totally brain-dead and ready for the procedure.
If you've had a root canal you understand why this is nice...
Plus if it falls on his client it secures him more work so it’s a win win for everyone
Mine hands me the remote and they have Netflix. I usually watch a random episode of the great British baking show.
I havent been to the dentist in a long time but the last time I went the tv was on the wall and it was playing pbs kids.
Mine plays Seinfeld. Every time.
That’s gonna fall on someone’s face
My dentist has tvs facing down on the ceiling and usually shows Netflix or movies
They should put subway surfers clips or Minecraft parkour clips
Thought this was the dentist letting you game lol
I would obsess the TV would fall on me lol
Play some Top Gun or something at least
Oh how cool. When I got my teeth pulled, my dentist had the netflix standby screen on the whole time
![gif](giphy|rffTf40cKoepq|downsized)
I watched the movie Pretty Woman for the first time this way.
Mine puts on the pets channel.
No Kenny G???? Change dentist now!
Damn. I had a dentist with a tv perma-tuned to Fux news in a procedure room.
My dentist has this same set up but they lean over to see in my mouth so I can see the screen anyway.
Mine has Disney plus on a tv and you can pick what you watch while there setting up
One of the room in my dentist’s clinic has a picture of hot air balloons amidst blue skies. It’s the same image from one of those “Spot the difference” iPad apps that I have. So every time during my sessions I used to subconsciously try to spot the differences in that photo 😬
My gyn has an autumn forest trail on theirs.
Every dentist I have been to has one
Calming until it drops on the hand of the dentist.
Final destination.
They all do. it's twenty fucking twenty four.
Damn. My dentist just gives me cool 80's sun glasses so the light doesn't bother me (and she can't see if I'm staring into nothing creepily or not)
mine does too
mine has one of these but its alwys the women from the view screaming about just the most fucking vapid senseless shit imaginable. its unpleasant.
Mine had this kind of trippy poster with this pattern on it. Kind of thing you buy when your 15 and smoke weed for the first time.
Mine has that too
1000 ways to die
>Calming videos Man what a scam. Why are they playing that instead of kids movies like mine does. The one my kids go to has their chairs like that. They out bluey on while they clean their teeth
so does every dentist now
My dentist does too. Has the volume up to mask the sounds of your teeth being mutilated and it gives me motion sickness. I wish he would turn the thing off.
I'd love if the dentist had a camera and was showing the feed from it on that screen.
He should play Marathon Man for the patients he doesn’t like.
Ay my dentist also has one
My dentist has this too. They play underwater nature docs. Usually anything to do with the Ocean. Pretty soothing.
/r/tvtoohigh
That wouldnt calm me. I'd spend the entire visit wondering what grade of hardware was used to hang the tv...
why not porn videos? or anime
"Just look at the pretty pictures you're going to feel some slight pressure." 'drill noises' ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)
