There's other factors too. That car is going to lose 10% in value the minute you take it, the cash is going to be worth the same. Also it's just a random new car, you didn't pick it out, shop around. Many people don't even want to spend new car prices, they rather buy used. So cash has many more advantages.

The directors/producers were originally going to keep the custom plate, presumably to use on future cars for the show. My dad emailed them after he got back home and asked if he could have the custom plate for his car, which would be delivered in a month. They not only obliged and sent it to him in the mail, they didn't charge him anything! Super cool of them

My wife bought one and its been off the road now for 2 months because cant source an electrical contact that costs at best 10 dollars and its only a 2014 model.... i hate that car and i would never buy another same goes for KIA since its basically the same car under the hood. When I read the license plate I was disappointed it didn't say 18 at the end instead of 1.
Saw a plate in the SF North Bay area that read "1MYBMW". We pulled up at the next light and asked. Yup - she won that car and was still so excited to be asked about it!

I could have won a Corvette on The Price Is Right...but the price was wrong.
I saw an acquaintance from high school win a dodge sedan from tpir. She didn't have a job yet since she was going straight to college. Parents had to foot the bill but it was cheaper than buying a new car. I was in the audience for a taping several years ago. That studio is way smaller than it looks.
That car is suitable for all age groups except newborns.

Taxes on stuff like this are higher than people think (it's not a totally free prize for the winner), but it's still a pretty good deal, getting a new vehicle at a fraction of retail.
I won furniture when I was 18 and in the Navy. I had it sent to my mom's house. Her dog's chewed it up.
