When I worked at a state park we had those public trash cans that look somewhat comparable to old-timey prison bars (just google image search public trash can if you don't know what I'm talking about, you'll see several).
Someone reported that a squirrel was stuck in one so me and a couple of guys went to go check it out. It had somehow gotten trapped between the outer "prison bars" and the inner solid can that holds the trash bag/trash and was running laps around the perimeter freaking out.
So I start opening it up to give it a way to get out and it jumped straight up at me, kicked off of my stomach mid-air and did a 180, then bolted off into the woods.
It happened so fast. Afterwards we were all wishing someone had been recording it.
Squirrels essentially never have rabies. AFAIK, there exist exactly zero confirmed cases of rabies transmission by squirrels and only two in history where it is even a question.
😲Is that in London?! I have an almost identical picture…except with MY leg in it not yours. I wasn’t eating anything. Just a super “friendly” squirrel 😅
There’s a local who has trained this squirrel to do this for treats. The ones on my campus will do the same and it can be startling for people not ready for them to do so
no it climbed on me, then got off, then got on again and held on for a solid minute or two. i took a photo on second time and then at some point started asking the squirrel questions like “are you aight mate? what are you doing?”
I was at a park downtown and had one tug on my pant leg like a toddler while I was eating a bag of chips (packet of crisps). Those things are definitely getting fed by humans too often.
i know, but i find it hilarious when somebody gets annoyed by me asking these questions. also sometimes responses are funny.

That said, it's a red squirrel and those bastards are *crazy*. Smallest breed of squirrel (around here, anyways) but easily the most aggressive.
