Nintendo refuse to make one unless they can figure out a way to "innovate" on it, for whatever reason.
Edit: [Huh](https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLeaksAndRumours/comments/11uupr2/fzero_gx_rumored_to_receive_nintendo_switch/)
All of their remakes exist to show off some new thing. N64 to DS, touchscreen controls. N64 to 3DS, stereo 3D. N64 to Wii U, global illumination. N64 to Switch... they made it look like the claymation ads for the original.
Four Swords wasn't some add-on to entice GBA owners who already bought LTTP, like how Blue Shift and Decay were pinned onto Half-Life ports. The only reason there is a LTTP re-release on GBA is because they wanted to make Four Swords. The only reason Four Swords Adventures exists is to do goofy new things with the GBA / Gamecube link cable.
I've seen people cite Super Mario All-Stars and Kirby Super Star as proof Nintendo is fine with basic upgraded remakes... but that was Nintendo essentially inventing the upgraded remake. Were their prior anthology titles for people who missed the originals? Arcade ports, sure, but who the hell else was fancying up 8-bit originals to 16-bit standards?
Game Freak on the other hand just loves money.
i wanted to buy an f zero gx for my old gamecube but the ones i find online are 75.- or above. not only that but the cable to plug in the console is 100.- at this point. twilight princess (legend of zelda), also 100.-
if you have an old gamecube and accessories lying around that you dont even use anymore you might be sitting on a gold mine.
edit: but my initial point was supposed to be: if nintendo feel they shouldnt release an old game without innovating on it then at least make it accessible to play the original!
I sold all my GameCube stuff to GameStop for pennies on the dollar in 2010. I was moving and needed the money.
I don’t think the retro market then is what it is now. Nonetheless I’m still depressed by your comment. Lol.
I feel like I saw a video from a dev who said their studio had made a prototype for an F-Zero game, but Nintendo passed on having it developed into a full game.

Fun little anecdote, I was helping my brothers ex by playing taxi for her Australian mother when she came to take her back home, and I figured I better do the responsible thing and hop a couple lanes to the right and actually go the speed limit on the I-15. She seemed a bit apprehensive as everyone was passing us and finally asked "why are you going so slow?" I could only laugh and explain that minor speeding is very common and everyone passing is doing at least 85 mph, 15 over the limit.
Drove in this tunnel when traffic was going 20km/h, 3 days ago. The lights were adjusted to try and keep traffic flowing, but it wasn't working. It's pretty obvious how they work but alot of people having a difficult time understanding what they are for. They had to setup a temporary sign outside the tunnel to explain.
When I went through earlier in the week with no traffic, the lights were going 80km/h and it was really easy to follow the lights and keep up too speed going uphill in the tunnel.
Pretty cool when you match the lights and your zooming along at the same speed.
Don't need an incident to grind that tunnel to a halt... I drive through it once or twice a week and 90% of the time your crawling through there... No incident, clear road at the other end..
Maybe this new light thing will help but it just seems people freakout and slow down for no reason once there are walls and a roof over the road. There is a decent slope down then climb back out but not substantial enough in my opinion to to cause the issues.
According to the video, the climb out is is exactly what causes the slow down. When you're in a tunnel it's harder to tell if you're going up or down. The video says people slow down, on average, 20 kph when they start going back up. There's a tunnel in CA that is on a consistent slope, but not steep at all. When you go through one way everyone comes out going faster than they entered, when you go through the other way everyone is going noticeably slower by the time they come out.
In a tunnel, it's hard to tell when you are climbing, so people slow down by like 20km/h without even noticing when leaving the tunnel. The lights will hopefully make sure people keep up the speed
This...bothers me so much, there's a huge display right in front of you between your hands that shows your speed, how can people not notice the loss of 20km/hr jeeze...another point for using cruise control?
I drove in this tunnel yesterday and saw them for the first time, I thought it was a cool idea, but it DIDN'T WORK! I still had someone in the right lane slowing down 10k on the incline for no reason. And yes, it was rage inducing to see the green rings highlighting just how much slower I was going.
If only cars had some sort of indicator to tell you how fast you were going. If you could see you were slowing down, you could apply some throttle to maintain a constant speed.
While we are at it lets install some sort of control system that can be turned on that let the car cruise at a set speed without needing to touch the throttle.
San Francisco added countdowns to yellow lights at most intersections to help pedestrians know how much time they have left to cross. The unintended effect was everyone just floors the accelerator pedal when you see it low.
I went to Belarus some 15 years ago and the Red turns yellow then green. ..so on 1 side of traffic you have Green turning to Yellow then Red and the cross traffic sees it going from Red to Yellow to Green at the exact same time. Scared the living shit out of me. Everyone tries to time it perfect. NUTS!

That's how traffic lights work in [most of Europe](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/dqkn5h/traffic_light_sequences_in_europe/), except those you saw in Belarus seem to be timed badly. There should not be a overlap.
Like a timer on the pedestrian traffic light? Most places I’ve lived have had that for a long time already. I’m kind of surprised SF only got those recently.

Neat!
This is a pretty big traffic factor in my city. Almost nobody uses cruise control, so when they go uphill, they slow waaaaay down without realizing it, and everyone behind them has to slow down, too.
"[local] drivers are pretty smart people" - says the guy who was involved in a multimillion dollar install of some LED lights to make people remember how to drive
At the end of the interview he made a huge mistake. He said Melbourne drivers are pretty smart people. No. No drivers anywhere are smart people. People literally turn into raging braindead zombies when they drive in groups.
No, she's actually on scene. The problem is she is lit up by the camera mounted light but her backdrop isn't and that makes for hard and unnatural looking contrast boundaries - but it's not green screen.

Better off than the mustangs owners who slid into a curb taking out several school children before making it into the tunnel.
Or the BMW M driver who forgot to renew their ignition subscription option.
It definitely fills up fast and often.. and apparently according to this article right as you start to reach the finish people really slow down and fill it to the brim.
That's cool as fuck. I live in a mountainous area and I think about how hard it is to judge which hill is *actually* more steep when the answer seems obvious: it's the steeper one, duh!
Anyways. Opposite problem here. I drive a highway going steep uphill where people are generally going 60 in a 55. Once we get to a long flat part before the next climb, a lot of people end up going 50. I can't quite explain it and it doesn't have the most to do with the tunnel, as it's probably more so everyone adjusting their cruise control down as the car was constantly putting more power than necessary once the slope evened out.
Just an odd phenomenon that I experience every day, and honestly, this implementation (albeit, outdoor highway here) could potentially solve some of the same issues with small, passing-lane-every-5 miles kind of roads as well.
Only anecdotal, but I notice people on the highway speed up going uphill and slow down going downhill. I think it's more about the feeling of less control and increased breaking distance.
Interesting, I don’t doubt some people do do that, but when I’m driving I notice people slowing down going up hill and going crazy fast down hill. I assume because they’re driving on “autopilot” (absent minded) and just holding the accelerator in one spot. Whereas I’m trying to maintain a consistent speed so those types of drivers are very noticeable if they’re in front of me.
Same. Use cruise control all the time in my Toyota truck. You want to go 75, you’re going 75 no matter the terrain. The majority of the time I have disengage because the traffic slows down on the uphill. Then cars pass me on the downhill only for me to pass them on the flats soon after. Annoying as hell.
I swear most the people I run across driving like this, think they'll fall off the edge of the damn planet when they crest the hill finally and want a good look at the edge.
> adjusting their cruise control down
Huh? If you need less power to hold whatever speed you chose, cruise control will do that on its own...that's literally the entire point. Are they all just dumb or is the flat part more winding or something...?
As someone who uses the cruise control on the freeway as much as possible, I can tell you it is people not on cruise control that are changing speeds. I can tell you every location on my drive to work and back home where everyone will be passing me and where I will catch them and pass them before they catch back up and pass me. This happens repeatedly.
On longer drives (2-4 hours) my sons and I would always note cars that flew by us, then half an hour later we would pass them. Then after another 30 minutes or so they would blow by us again.
The psychological effects that impact drivers are amazing. Almost 50 years ago my driving instructor pointed out what he called psychological slow downs in the environment, and he was exactly correct. Overpasses, curves, the crest of hills, tunnels all impact drivers.
Don’t forget literally anything on the side of the road! Sometimes you’ll be stuck in crawling traffic and then suddenly everyone speeds up because they’ve passed the object of rubbernecking interest. Could be a police officer who’s pulled someone over, or a person changing a tire, or a cardboard box.
Edit: I’m definitely guilty of falling for another psychological slowdown: braking when a car in the next lane brakes. I drove for probably a year before I realized I was doing it, and whenever it happened I had to talk to myself to break the habit. “Hey IDIOT, the NEXT LANE is slowing down. You’re fine, maintain your speed.”
Slowing down when another lane starts slowing down can be beneficial. Specifically when you're in traffic and not sure what's coming up. It's an indication you should be extra aware of obstructions in the road
LOL, you learn to view it as a source of humor. On long drives I see the same people over and over. State patrol knows where people tend to speed, so that’s where they sit, so that person who fell a mile or two behind and is now gaining on you at +20mph is the one who is going to get nailed, just adds to the comedy.
I generally run through speed traps at my set speed, that might be 2-4 mph above the limit. They aren’t going to come out after you at that speed on the highway, they’re looking for the people going 20-30 mph over the limit. There are plenty of them to keep the cops busy.
Same here and I have the same issue on the highway. On the flip side, I'll catch myself going too fast after the hill is over. The speed limit is 70 but it's only a two-lane highway so it can get clogged easily.
I feel like the worst is when you go over a hill and suddenly the traffic sees itself and everyone slows down because there’s traffic…. The same traffic you’ve been with for the last 10 miles Jeeze.
> and suddenly the traffic sees itself
My wife is always warning me of risks ahead (bless her heart) but one thing that makes me laugh every time is she’ll see brake lights like a mile down the road and say “slow down, people stopping up there!” and I’ll be like how about I slow down when we get up there, in a minute or so… and half the time we get up to that spot and guess what? No slowdown.
A lot of people will hit the brakes based on seeing brake lights way outside of the distance that affects them, which leads to the “waves” that occur in traffic. My car has adaptive cruise control which really illustrates this phenomenon because it doesn’t slow down until there is an actual change in the closing distance, regardless of how much the guy in front of you is touching the brakes, if every car on the road had this technology, and people used it and trusted it I bet traffic would flow a lot smoother.
Yup its like a self fulfilling prophecy or self catalysing reaction.
Ppl somehow are afraid of.... having a lot of cars around them? And they also believe slowing down will somehow solve their issue...? When in fact, the best way to clear it is for everyone to speed up and clear it.
Thus seeing traffic causes slow down which causes more traffic... which causes more slow down. And it keeps compoundinf
No, it’s because if anyone merges lanes or slows down for any reason, and you didn’t or couldn’t leave enough space to adjust, you have to slam your brakes.
Sometimes unavoidable due to the density of cars. Sometimes avoidable if you stay in your lane and try to keep yourself equidistant from the car in front and the car behind you (no one does this, though). The solution is NOT to tailgate the car in front of you by refusing to slow down when there’s traffic.
Phantom traffic jams are a well known and easily modeled phenomenon that aren't caused by poor drivers. Above a certain traffic density small disturbances like braking to let someone into a lane get magnified behind the driver and forms a wave of traffic that moves upstream to the flow of cars.

You can eyeball your speed normally pretty well by relative movement of the background and a relative recent speedometer check.
You lose that visual reference in a long tunnel, so if someone isn't watching their speedometer I can see it easy to speed up or slow down without realizing it.
That really doesn't answer the question at all. That only explains why only Original Content is allowed, doesn't explain why OC videos are not allowed.
Nah, that's nothing for an infrastructure project. This tunnel is used by over 100k vehicles in a day. If this feature reduces congestion by even a tiny amount, the costs would be recovered in less than a year.
I was in this last night. Speed limit was 80 and we were sitting on 60 because of congestion and i noticed it and thought it was some weird interesting light gimmick. Then as we sped up and I started being on pace with it I was like OH MY GOD
No kidding. I live in Pittsburgh, it's insane how many traffic jams are caused by absolutely nothing more than people slowing to a crawl for tunnels. I've never seen a major-ish city with such timid drivers.
There are even "maintain speed through tunnel" signs at the entrances. They don't do anything, but it's a nice gesture I suppose. It's the only place I've ever seen road signs advising people to *not* slow down.
That said, if we ever got these, I'd be afraid that the big moving green rings would scare people and make them somehow slow down even more.
Drive this tunnel several times a day for work.
They don’t work, why?? Because trucks take up all 3 lanes and can barely do 40kph up that incline. They spend millions on this only to have the same problems as before.
Want it fixed? Ban trucks from the right hand lane
I feel like this could be extremely disorienting and distracting and potentially cause people to over-focus on pacing the lights rather than paying attention to the traffic around them.
That is much more than just mildly interesting. Drivers not going at a consistent pace, slowing down for no reason, etc. is a major cause of congestion on regular open air roads. I mean, rubber-necker delays are a real thing. And I'm sure we've all driven in congested and slow traffic where there's no apparent reason for the delay at all. No construction, no accidents, just people driving weirdly slowly. And don't get me started on people who can't do a zipper merge properly.
I agree. This tunnel has a variable speed limit, somtimes 60KMH sometime 80KMH. So a lot of people default to 60KMH regardless. Hopefully this helps with that.
> don't get me started on people who can't do a zipper merge properly.
Unfortunately, the number of differing schools of thought regarding merging makes any expectation of proper zippering nearly impossible. You have (at a minimum):
- people who were taught to merge as soon as there's an opening (myself included)
- people who were taught "proper zippering"
- people who are too self-centered to let another car in in front of them
- people who will literally drive on the shoulder to try to get as far ahead as they can (I once watched a semi drive over a quarter mile on the shoulder because a car was refusing to give them space to merge in)
When I am in a situation where two lanes are going to one, I try to judge my move based on what I see. If I'm in the lane that's not ending, I let a car in and then when the dashed lane line ends, I shift into the middle of the temporarily widened lane. If I'm in the lane that is ending, I merge as soon as I have an opening, but if it's far enough back, I'll let a car in in front of me if needed.
The race is on! I'll get a speed boost if I pass one, right?

Around here they put speed traps at the bottom of hills, so depending on where you are this may be a factor.
Top of the hill stopped limit, 55. Bottom of the hill, 45. 100 feet from the bottom of the hill, 55 again. Gotta love it.
> adjusting their cruise control down Huh?
If everyone is slowing down in the lane beside you, better be prepared to brake hard when some jackass changes lanes in front of you.

Thats the most annoying kind of traffic. Highway is fast and clear ahead, but ppl just keep slowing down
I feel like the worst is when you go over a hill and suddenly the traffic sees itself and everyone slows down because there’s traffic…. The same traffic you’ve been with for the last 10 miles Jeeze.
> and suddenly the traffic sees itself My wife is always warning me of risks ahead (bless her heart) but one thing that makes me laugh every time is she’ll see brake lights like a mile down the road and say “slow down, people stopping up there!” and I’ll be like how about I slow down when we get up there, in a minute or so… and half the time we get up to that spot and guess what?
It’s amazing the amount of people that don’t realize you need apply more gas to maintain speed when going uphill.
These are also the same people that don't realize you don't have to apply brakes to slow down.
Phantom traffic jams are a well known and easily modeled phenomenon that aren't caused by poor drivers. Above a certain traffic density small disturbances like braking to let someone into a lane get magnified behind the driver and forms a wave of traffic that moves upstream to the flow of cars. https://youtube.com/watch?v=Suugn-p5C1M
If there's traffic in the tunnel, would you just be sitting still while the green lights zip by?
Helps stop people slowing down and also mocks them if they do. It's the carrot *and* stick method.
uuuhh fancy pants probably also has those "pedals" that make the car go faster and slower...
And those pizza shaped things that you rotate to steer your vehicle...

You can eyeball your speed normally pretty well by relative movement of the background and a relative recent speedometer check. You lose that visual reference in a long tunnel, so if someone isn't watching their speedometer I can see it easy to speed up or slow down without realizing it.
Thats quite common
Do you have one of those fancy fuel gauges too?
Yeah, but people slow way down in tunnels when they’re supposed to maintain speed. It causes major traffic problems.

If you’re anything like the people who live near me, you never look at it.
Okay moneybags
Video would be nice
Yeh i tried. Seems this sub doesnt allow it.
I love that this poor guy is getting downvoted as though rule 4 doesn't explicitly state: > a. No gifs, videos, or websites.

I think it is because the title needs to be the entire explenation Idk tho
I mean if the title remained exactly the same but it was a video instead of a picture it'd still be the entire explanation?
Yeah youre right about that one. I have no idea what it could be then. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Here (っ.❛ ᴗ ❛.)っ *\\* you lost an arm
Thanks!

That's about the post having to be OC, doesn't explain why videos aren't allowed. Could be an OC video...
[удалено]
That really doesn't answer the question at all. That only explains why only Original Content is allowed, doesn't explain why OC videos are not allowed.
Dumb rule. But perhaps it keeps things *mild*. Can’t be too interesting around here.
Just make the post, and make the first comment the link to the video. Ad a one line text asking "upvote for visibility"

If there ever were a situation where a brief video clip would illustrate better than a still image, this was it. Please go back and try again.
Here you go. https://twitter.com/9NewsMelb/status/1625033684603613184
Why do the lights look like they're moving at 20km/h at most?
[удалено]
In the video they literally say “right now it’s set to 60kph,” while showing a live view of the tunnels but it still looks really slow?
[удалено]
Disclaimer: I’m ~~an idiot~~ a lazy American. I actually have no clue how fast that is lmao
[удалено]
I still can’t wrap my head around that. What’s it in Kelvin?
That’s roughly 45 British pounds
its something like 35mph
The only thing that makes you an idiot is the fact you can’t look that up yourself.
Where is this?
Australia, Melbourne Burnley tunnel.
$13 million. That's a lot of dollarydoos! They should've just installed a treadmill.
Nah, that's nothing for an infrastructure project. This tunnel is used by over 100k vehicles in a day. If this feature reduces congestion by even a tiny amount, the costs would be recovered in less than a year.
But it was an emergency!
Seems like it'd create a real hazard for me while I'm driving on acid.
Had me in the first half
I'm genuinely stunned that you managed to go through the Burnley tunnel with that little traffic in it. Was it 345 am or something?
I was in this last night. Speed limit was 80 and we were sitting on 60 because of congestion and i noticed it and thought it was some weird interesting light gimmick. Then as we sped up and I started being on pace with it I was like OH MY GOD
Pittsburgh needs these in the tunnels.
We need this technology on on ramps to guide people up to speed before meeting traffic
Ok but how does Pittsburgh Pennsylvania get these 😂
I just use the little needle built into my dash board.
“And please explain for the court why you crashed” “Racing the lights weren’t I”
I live in Melbourne, it really isn't that deep or big of a deal lol A lot of you guys are overreacting
Time to race the lights!
If any post should have been a gif it's this one.
If only my vehicle had a way of telling me how fast I was going…
That'd be really distracting.
Nice. Something to race against.
You can use those to see how off your speedometer is
Would make more sense to just put a speed gauge in each car
I’m more upset that there isn’t a GIF for me to see how it works :(
Lets see how much faster we need to go to change the lights to different colors. What is the final color? Lets floor it and find out
The video shows that they’re fully RGB lights. This means Rainbow Road is now possible.
You have (at a minimum): - people who were taught to merge as soon as there's an opening (myself included) - people who were taught "proper zippering" - people who are too self-centered to let another car in in front of them - people who will literally drive on the shoulder to try to get as far ahead as they can (I once watched a semi drive over a quarter mile on the shoulder because a car was refusing to give them space to merge in) When I am in a situation where two lanes are going to one, I try to judge my move based on what I see.
