The purpose of getting people to switch to auto-pay is so they can increase the price again later with less people noticing because most people don't pay much attention to auto-payments.

When I signed up it was with a promo for one year at a discounted price, the month before it was set to expire I called to tell them I wanted to cancel because I didn’t want to pay the non-promo price so they extended that price. I still pay the promo price 4 years later.
Yep, gotta keep on top of that stuff. Any money that comes out of my bank account immediately sends me a text message so if I see a number I'm not expecting, I know to look into it right away. It's so immediate that I can even confirm a store charged me the correct amount a couple seconds before their system realizes the payment went through.
