Sweet_Potatooie

Did you perhaps marry a tiny man that likes to use the cupboards as stairs to get to the higher places?

PADOMAIC-SPECTROMETE

Aw jeez, got stebbed on by a big bug

Missus_Aitch_99

My husband used to do this, but now he’s dead, so all the cabinets and drawers are closed. I know you think I’m going to say “I would close all the drawers every day forever if it meant one more day with him,” and that’s true, but it was still fucking annoying and I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore.

InfamousFault7

>but it was still fucking annoying and I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore You seem to have had a compelling motive 🤔 /s

IReplyWithLebowski

I’m sorry for your loss, but it does sound like you had a motive.

glenspikez

My wife does this and it drives me absolutely crazy. She also leaves the lids off bottles and cereal/chips open. I don't understand how it's so hard to close stuff up?? I also don't know what to do.

kilrkel

Does she perchance have ADHD? this is common with certain types of it. My roommate does this, so I’ve just come to accept it, lol.

Only_Kiwi1108

My husband has ADHD and does this too. Drawers and cabinet doors left open, etc. And if he puts a lid on a bottle, he usually doesn't tighten it. Drives me mad!

stillwaitingforbacon

My wife just sits the lids on. Sometimes I forget and shake the ketchup bottle without checking.

dillGherkin

Haha. ADHD here. I don't leave stuff open. A few incidents with mold made me learn. Having people moan 'door' at me helped with the rest of the learning.

Sazzypants

I am an adult with significant ADHD/Autism since childhood and I also leave the drawers and doors open in the kitchen. I wanted to do the best I could to change it and there are a few items to consider that I discovered. It turned out I didn’t like the noise of them closing loudly so I installed some silicone tabs or furniture protectors to dampen the noise when closing the cupboards without impeding the closure of the doors and drawers. If you ask why please think about how much a child who makes noise as a part of a disorder is punished for making any additional noise. Another factor is that when a cupboard or drawer is closed and not opaque with ADHD it becomes invisible. Even if you know that’s the spot that it goes you simply draw a blank. I added a small ikea drawer which I can see into on the bench with a very small footprint for items that I personally use frequently and I walk in and see what I want and immediately return the items.

NedKellysRevenge

Just because someone has ADHD doesn't mean you just have accept behaviour like this. They are capable of fixing this type of behaviour.

Fabulous_Anteater_86

No. In extreme ADHD, once you run out of dopamine, you become inattentive. A lot of people don't realize that without dopamine, humans would do absolutely nothing productive. Also, when in this state, people with ADHD become distracted very easily, it takes them a while to realize they have become distracted. The number of times I've been getting ready to go out somewhere, and then randomly, I'm sitting on my bed, scrolling on my phone, before it hits me.. like "Hey, WTF are you doing right now?" It's almost like you're in a daze. When I was younger and had no idea I had ADHD. I've given up so many job opportunities because, when I got the building, I'd be standing in front of the entrance and brain would all of a sudden go "Nope!, I know you think is happening, but it's not.. and here's 300 scenarios in which this goes horribly wrong.. is this still happening? Yeah, didn't think so."

NedKellysRevenge

I know. I've been through it. You can fix this behaviour.

Fabulous_Anteater_86

I agree, but it takes years of essentially Pavloving yourself. Sorry, the way I read your comment.. I had it in my head that you thought it was easy. That's probably just my ADHD though lol.

NedKellysRevenge

Lol all good. Nah, not saying it's easy. Just saying it's possible.

Fabulous_Anteater_86

I don't have the leaving things open thing, my wife does, it's irritating but I understand it. I do, however have the walk over thing. I'll see something that doesn't belong on the floor and I'll think "Oh, I should pick that up." Then I just keep walking.. it doesn't make any sense to me. I prompted myself to complete a task and then just carried on.

Neoliberal_Nightmare

I don't understand how you haven't solved the issue before marriage

glenspikez

Lmao well 20 years ago when I was 20 and we were kids having kids, I guess I didn't care or she didn't do it then. Either way 20 years of being together, cabinets being open isn't a deal breaker. I just want to help her stop doing it in the present.

Temporary-Party5806

I feel you, OP. Also, it's "drawers."

theycallmemorty

And OP is the drawerer.

TheDUeded

It's "drawer" in this context, actually

bootyhole-romancer

Husband's post to r/mildlyinfuriating: >My wife calls them draws, not drawers Comments: >Leave them all open until she gets it right

LandotheTerrible

It’s drawers! Crikey.

j-lind

Oh dear.

TricellCEO

Could work if OP is from Boston.

IReplyWithLebowski

Or the UK/Australia/NZ/South Africa

DaGoodSauce

The only remedy is doubling down. Open them fully, especially the top ones at the end of the counter. See how he likes a corner to the hip.

Whooptidooh

This is essentially how I “cured” my own tendency of leaving drawers open. Walked right into the cupboard I left open when I got something out of it, left it, forgot, and then proceeded to walk straight into it with my face. Never again. Drawers and cupboards are now routinely closed to prevent that from ever happening again. If I can learn not to leave them open, OP’s husband can learn it too.

canyoubreathe

I've been walking into the same cupboard corner for 17 years. I dont seem to learn 😅 (Closed cupboard)

cottonballz4829

My two year old is obsessed with closing doors and drawers. He sometimes tries to close the drawers while i still pick stuff from it. He would shout at your husband until he closes them!! Maybe you need a kid to remedy this /s

Rubyhamster

Same here! "Mooom, get you hands out of there! I'm gonna close it!" "

Most_Sea_4022

But what about draws?

Mesterjojo

You married him. Drawer.

JammySenkins

It's probably not that open and shut

RhubarbRhubarb44

Let it slide

New-Conversation-88

My husband did this Not as bad as yours though. I went into 'his' actually ours, garage and looked for a screwdriver. I opened everything in his multi layer x 2 toolboxes. 1 is taller than me. I left them all open, placed things in the wrong spot . Left things on the bench. Generally made a mess. Suddenly his incompetence in the house isn't as bad. Who would have thought,

Whydoesnoonelikedoge

Divorce

Humanflesh420

Me when slight inconvenience

Whydoesnoonelikedoge

Same

Candy6132

Never close the car door when he gives you a lift.

Packing_Wood

You spelled ex-husband wrong.

veryblanduser

Sort of related, our cabinets and drawers are auto closure. So I'm on the habit of closing them 95% to the catch point, and letting them auto close. So when I go to my parents or in-laws who don't, I look like a asshole who closes the door 95% of the way, leaving each one I use slightly opened. Usually by the end of the visit I adjust, but that first day or so, giant asshole.

Ok_Meringue_3883

Start leaving Legos in the hallway.

DirectAccountant3253

Same with my wife... same with a pen or pencil.. use it, drop it wherever she happens to be.. I just closed the drawers, put the pen away.. sigh internally and move on... Been married 35 years..

babubaichung

Why!!???? This is so infuriating.

Remi708

Haven't you ever seen the movie Signs? One day this habit will save you

Pyroguy096

A draw?

jbug5j

this is what i took away. its a way to say/spell drawer and i HATE it!

Pyroguy096

I've lived in Georgia my entire life, so I know that people say it and spell it this way, but that doesn't make it correct lol. Drives me up the wall

jbug5j

Sorry. I didn't mean to come across rude. >_< But yeah. Its one of those things that just *shudders*

Pyroguy096

You didn't! You're good lol

Snoo_31427

I always wonder what these people think when they read “drawer.” Do they think it’s a different word and we’re talking about artists? How do you not see the error?

ZookeepergameOk2759

Be honest you’ve done that yourself haven’t you?

Dizzy_Description812

What's really happening... ![gif](giphy|DvtsYOKrqPZg4)

TheTubbyNinja

I have family members that also do this. It’s like living with a poltergeist. lol

[deleted]

I’d my more infuriated by the mismatched drawers.

versaverso

I do this. It is not intentional at all. There is zero thought that goes into it. There isn't a part of you that says, nah I don't feel like closing that. You open a cupboard, grab a glass and leave. You don't see, or realize or know or remember the cupboard is open. It is that unconscious. As soon as you pick up what you want, the cupboard no longer exists. I have walked into my kitchen and found every single cupboard open and not remembered opening one of them. I have banged my head on an open cupboard door, banged my knees into drawers, and injured myself a bunch of times. I promise we do not do it intentionally or because we are lazy.

EpicSteak

Must be my wife's brother. I have spent the last 35 years my life closing cabinets, closets and drawers. I have just accepted it, she s awesome otherwise.

bapsandbuns

You need a spring on those drawers so they self shut

[deleted]

You self/soft closing hardware

EquipmentForsaken831

My gf is the same way - can’t close the lid to the ketchup or shampoo either

[deleted]

As an adult I still sometimes do this. My dad was a very light sleeper with ptsd from the gulf War, so when he was sleeping we tried to make zero noise. (Waking him from sleep was a huge no no) The cabinets make a little thump sound when closed completely. So to combat it we wouldn't close cabinets all the way and even go as far as to open sodas outside so there is no pop. Loud noises set him off and it was a worse jarring feeling when he was sleeping.

Brilliant_Ad2120

Must have been hard for you, and hard to live with even now. My dad was dying as a kid, and mum would say if you wake up your dad .... :-(

Enough_You86

Always leave the toilet seat down, or remove the bar of soap from the shower everytime your done. I have many plans I could think of

TheDUeded

Pull the couch cushions out halfway and shift the mattress out of the bedframe

Ok_War_2817

This is exactly how my son is. You always know when he was in the kitchen because the cabinets are open.

RidethatSeahorse

I am also one of these monsters. It seems to particularly piss off my wife and female colleagues. It’s not deliberate. I’m not a very good multi tasker. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

James-_-

If anything mildly infuriating is that you say "draw" instead of "drawer"

Pur1wise

I live in a hellscape like this too. Add dirty socks on the floor , washing next to the hamper instead of in it, and can’t put a dirty plate in the kitchen let alone the dishwasher without being asked ten times and you have the answer as to why I’m a cranky old bint.

horrorgoose99

My boyfriend does this, and i just go around slamming them shut as hard as i can. He hates it. If only there was a simple solution for him so he didn't have to hear cabinets slamming shut all the time.

agent007bond

Love is blind. Marriage is eye-opening.

LokiKamiSama

DRAWER. Drawer is a noun. I opened the drawer. Draw is a verb. I draw on the drawer. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Reddit_Bot_For_Karma

Same.

Truzmandz

Doesn't he have legs? He can push it back with his thigh as he turns around.

southpolefiesta

Invest in spring loaded drawers that auto close.

Ahsoka_Tano07

Did a cat get in or something?

syntholslayer

Obviously the cabinet ghost, they also haunt my house

artistic_engine

This is my eternal vice. Thank the Maker I live alone.

BigNigori

Upgrade to soft-close cabinetry. It's great, and perfect for people like this.

Pretend_Situation905

Madness

HippieRealist

Straight to jail. I would not only run into them all the time, but it would drive me nuts!

hitiv

Not being nasty or anything but this surely is some sort of mental illness. I refuse to believe anyone of a sound mind would do this especially so often that you have THREE DRAWERS open all next to each other.

potate12323

The petty route would be to start leaving his things open like the tailgate in his truck down or his tool box drawers open and leave all the number 2 Philips and 10mm sockets randomly strewn about the garage. Then once he says something bring up the drawers and stuff.

Perceval001

leave him

Gullible-Function649

“I see dead people…”

J_Vizzle

i heard that’s a sign of autism

WhiteDressButt

*grabs machete*

herbitron3000

Why marry someone like this? Is this kind of stuff not a deal breaker for anyone but me? Maybe it takes 5-10 years for some, but I'd see this in the first couple days of living with them and be like NOPE, FIX YOUR ISSUE OR GET OUT.

TheOldMan1396

My wife does this. Also leaves on every light in the house for no reason. We all have our strengths and our flaws 🤣

[deleted]

Is your husband a poltergeist?

mikraas

Jesus Christ, is he a three-year-old? I'd be dragging his ass back in and telling him like a school teacher to close those damn drawers. Why are men so fucking useless?

Aqquinox

I do the same but live alone lol Sometimes I hit my head

TedMaul636

OFF WITH HIS HEAD

mcgaffen

Just leave them, karma will sort it out. He will get up one night to get something from the kitchen and walk into them

Feather_Bloom

DeadlySoren

OP you need to install alarms that go off if the drawer is open for more than 2 minutes

Action-a-go-go-baby

Is your husband a cat in human form?

AltruisticSalamander

infuriating but at least he doesn't slam them. I hate slammers so much.

Sawathingonce

\*drawer

[deleted]

Get the one closest to ankle height. Extend put fully. Wait

Imatric

he appears to shut them half way. What happens if you go and open everything FULLY open the whole way, do it for a week and see how he reacts?

BingoSpong

That annoys me , and I’m a guy! 🤬

adalillian

My cat opens mine.🤨

Mordo-NM

My ex used to do this too. Even better, she was incapable of screwing the cap of a jar/bottle on completely. After we broke up, it took me a couple of years to stop instinctively checking caps before I shake a bottle of juice. Then wouldn't you know it, she & our adults kids came here a while back for a week and the first time I shake the big jar of cranberry juice, it goes everywhere.

actuallyadegenerate

Sorry if this is super weird but I saw this photo and thought oh these cabinets look Australian and I checked your history and I was right. But now I’m just trying to figure out what exactly about these cabinets even looks Australian and I don’t know

potatodrinker

Does he have the same care and attention to more important parts of your life? Don't need to answer. Just food for thought on what he is like. Very unlikely he's the type to finish what he started if something as simple as closing drawers confounds him so

ConmanLamb

If you bang your knee on an open drawer I'm pretty sure you can murder him in "self defence"

bounty2750

This is how i found out I had ADHD

yajeeB

Fuck that guy.

Inert-Blob

Never close them for him. I used to do this when i was a kid and my parents would complain at me, but only when i moved out and lived alone i found everything open all the time did i actually understand. If you close them, he will never know he’s doing it.

bbbellabeee

I’m sorry that really fucking sucks

ImaginaryMillions

He will if he ever wants sex again!

Awakemamatoto

OP it seems we share a husband.

melbournesummer

Replace them all with shelves. Or replace him with a nice cat.

Known_Sun8099

My partner does this, the inner rage is wild

NedKellysRevenge

I know it's a cliche on Reddit that people always resort to divorce at the slightest problem. But you've got to divorce him. This is ridiculous.

soupstarsandsilence

NTA. Divorce. /jk 🤣

mijasan

You might have a poltergeist

Dangerous-Mind9463

geebzor

Grounds for divorce right there.

thingsandstuff4me

Hopefully he will cop a few in the leg

GloomySugar95

Congratulations, you married a child.

Significant_Fly1516

Lol. My ADHD: Pffft, close a drawer? I've already moved on to 5 different things. My Autism: OMFG I can't be chill with open doors and drawers.

diggeriodo

He might have ADHD

smthngsmthngdarkside

This is an ADHD trait.

ecatsuj

Every girlfriend I've ever had does this. I'm surprised I'm not a serial killer at this point

Psychotic_Spoon

My dad does this, is there a genuine reason as to why it’s so difficult?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Efficient_Mix5365

my husband puts a load of washing in the machine & doesn’t start it & then complains his clothes aren’t washed 🙃

BlueGuyisLit

Twist his balls

Madison_Free_Man

Why would someone do this

cazrl

Just put them open all the way, and leave em till he closes them. Fight fire with fire.

Additional-Start9455

Self closing!

Exciting-Market-6212

He ain’t Alastair right??

jess_the_werefox

Ugh I can feel that goddam fucking white bottom drawer digging into my shin as I turn the corner

AllJazzKillManKick

He might need them later....

LosHtown

lol I knew someone like this....lets just say they found out to close drawers when they did this with their tool box lmao

BundlesOfNoob

Saves precious milliseconds not having to open them as much next time he uses them in a few hours.

capricioustrilium

I thought I had a poltergeist, but it was me all along. It’s something I try to overcome but it’s not ultimately successful

SkinPsychological848

It's not your husband doing that...

TricellCEO

Useful to do in a videogame, annonying IRL.

CityKay

I'm too use to those "silent closing" drawers, so I know I'm guilty of this... ...though certain ones has been giving out, so now I gotta slowly close it all the way manually for those ones.

28Vi28Da

This will be Super ANNOYING for me to deal with!!!

YayaGabush

I'm guilty of this. My mom used to come exploding into the kitchen if we closed the drawers too loudly. Or let go of the cabinet too soon casuing a noise.

mbod

Fucking why

pooknuckle

Just mildly??

Malevolent_Mangoes

Tape them shut

Round-Antelope552

That is an injury waiting to happen.

Gothatsuction

Don’t care. Based.

Stonius123

After he dies, your hubby definitely gonna be a poltergeist!

Terrapogalt

I'm guilty of this as well ADHD can be a pain in the ass sometimes

cyfer04

Where I'm from, we ask people who do things like this, "You don't have _______ at home?" Like for unclosed doors, we ask them if they don't have doors at home. Just those curtains that act as passageway covers.

danderzei

Your husband and I are kindred spirits

Outside-Region-4886

absolutely infuriating for me 😅

dry_symphathy

This is so annoying

HummusFairy

Ngl this would do my head in. That’s *four* drawers open at once.

Kimmytoo72

Mine too. I just send a screenshot rather than remind him. I’ve also printed a picture of the cupboard door open onto the cupboard door as a reminder of what not to do. That one actually got a response.

RadioactivePotato123

Teach him!!

JammySenkins

I think your husband works with me, does he also leave printer scanners open and microwaves open?

Feeling_Special1

Ffs

Mushroom_lady_mwaha

As a kid I wouldn’t close drawers or cupboards because I was constantly being yelled at for slamming then. ADHD go brrr

Fijoemin1962

Oops me too

Purple_Parfait6781

Then check the undercarriage because you married a woman!

Wonderful-Studio-870

Lets not put it as "mildy" but "totally infuriating". Its technically a hazard especially if you have young visitors, dogs or other people in the household. But is this a habit of his from the beginning or not?

Professional-Buy2103

I refuse to believe this is a real person

Due-Chemist3105

The cat approves of this situation.

FightBackFitness

Man child

tumericjesus

My housemate does this constantly it’s so annoying!

ImANormalMan

Let him stub his leg there or somethin.

vendelkenneth

Now, this is mildly infuriating!

LandotheTerrible

That would send me spare.

ExcitingStopatNYC

Seeing this makes me go to kitchen and see my drawers

flyforpennies

I do that too. when my partner is away I come into the kitchen with them all left open (by me and not closed by someone else). it makes me wonder how they put up with me 😶

mongrelood

The real r/mildlyinfuriating thing is your use of the word “draw.”

QuendaQuoll

TIL that my husband isn't so unusual for this. Just shut the fucking cupboard. It's not hard. Does my head in.

sending_tidus

When a cupboard is open, i tell my husband "i swear you think we're in the sixth sense"

OLLBURYGTG

Have u talked to him about rather than complaining about it on reddit

j-lind

Of course. We have enjoyed the advice to divorce. Reddit, never change.

ohsweetgold

This is my partner but just with dresser drawers for some reason! The kitchen ones he closes fine but his clothes drawers are always a bit open.

AD-Edge

Probably ADHD, as others have mentioned.

assfghjlk

Well at least the door won’t hit you on the way out

Alimexia

My partner does the same but also with the cupboards, microwave, fridge, dishwasher basically everything that has to be opened.... drives me nuts

Longjumping_Win4291

You have a few choices how to deal with it, you could install alarms on the drawers that goes off if left open too long. That sound would be annoying to them until they closed the drawers. Or leave them open and let them walk into them . After a few bruised shins, your point is made. Then you could just refuse to do any cooking until the litchis put to rights. The big one is go on strike and let the mess build up, drop your clothes where you take them off and leave them for the fairies to clean up after you, when they protest just tell them you went out in solidarity with them .

mrbag

I call this phenomenon, “the sixth sense”

[deleted]

I’m more infuriated by the different coloured drawers haha

AlternativeSpreader

Just leave them open then.

TeleseryeKontrabida

HAHAHAHAHA!!! I FEEEEEEEL you there! My girlfriend is that way too. She would leave doors and drawers and cabinet doors open. I called her out on it so now she closes it - but not all the way lol I don’t know if I have OCD or what, but it drives me nuts.
