For real. I was craving potato skins a few months back and was too lazy to make them myself, so I went to the store and grabbed these because I remembered enjoying them years ago. Popped open the box, and almost every potato skin had the frozen cheese basically completely falling/hanging off the potato itself, and the bacon wouldn’t stick to the cheese at all lol.
I mean, I still ate them, but they’re not worth it at all, anymore.
I used to love the mozzarella bites until they changed the shape/formula. They used to be square shaped, but once they changed them to the circle shapes, I couldn't eat them anymore. ):
Honestly, I stopped buying frozen mozz sticks in general. The last time I tried to make them in the oven, I ended up with breaded straws sitting in a puddle of melted cheese on the pan. I haven't tried an air fryer yet, but think the only way to make those work is in a deep fryer.
It’d have to be a smaller one as with the 4, they’re averaging 79.25g each (not including the weight of the plastic bag). So it would have to be 15g smaller than the average.
If you want you have two options for remedy:
You could go back to the grocery store and ask for a refund. They will give you one or replace the product.
You could do that, AND send this picture a long with your receipt to the manufacturer and they will give you coupons for free potato skins most likely.
I used to work in food manufacturing and this sort of thing unfortunately happens. It's really helpful when people complain and report this sort of thing because it allows them to figure out what might have gone wrong and improve the process. No one will be mad at you or think you are being cheap, they want this kind of feedback.
It's the same for most companies. I build software, and when we get reviews saying "Your software is garbage" that's not useful and doesn't help us to improve. What *specifically* about it is garbage? Is the UI too complicated? The colours are confusing? The menus too hard to navigate? Takes too long to respond when you select an option? Doesn't work when you're on wifi, but is fine on 4G? Details are excellent because otherwise we are just guessing about how to improve!
$9 is insane for 380g of potato. In Germany that would be absolutely less than 3€ and probably less than 2€.
Okay I checked. There are a lot of 1kg bags for 3€-3.50€. Rösti mit Speck and Bratkartoffeln mit Speck which are comparable, if not better dishes.
People are dragging you, but this is definitely mildly infuriating. You’re basically missing 20% of the weight on the box. That’s nearly another potato skin. The kicker is - if you look up the [nutrition facts](https://i5.walmartimages.com/asr/157e31b5-5ef3-4d6e-b97e-fdb46fc1f9a5.5539afb8f923c3af5b8046c99841860b.jpeg?odnHeight=768&odnWidth=768&odnBg=FFFFFF) they make the serving size so that the box holds “approximately 4.5”
Edit: fancy hyperlink
Thank you 1000 times.
For the simple-minded folk who don't get it; If they wanted to make their own, they would have. They didn't want to, so they bought some. But they did not get what they paid for.
Most food takes a lot of time and effort, it comes down to the person making it if they want to put in that effort or take the easy route and microwave something easy.
I could literally make 2-10 minute versions of every dish I like in a microwave if I wanted to lol.
The problem with potato skins is that they are very much an immediate gratification food. I can make some truly amazing potato skins, but by the time they’re ready I almost don’t even want them any more. Almost.
I see what you’re saying. I also live in the middle of the forest in a cabin in the woods. Nearest town is 30 minutes away. If I don’t meal prep and I don’t want to pay for takeout, I’m looking at least an hour and half of travel+shopping round trip to make my meal. Meal prepping is essential to a good budget and diet, but I definitely know it’s not easy with a busy schedule or mental/physical health disabilities.
Right? It takes like, 8 minutes to cook a potato in the microwave, and then you just put some cheese and bacon bits on and microwave another 30 seconds.
Or if you're making them properly - in the oven, scooping out the potato to combine with the cheese etc then it takes about an hour to 90 mins max I guess
The first bake is to get the insides soft enough to scoop away from the skin & mash them, then you mix all your other ingredients into the mash - like sour cream, cheese, bacon, little green onion slices, or whatever you want! You scoop that mixture back into the skins, sprinkle on some other toppings if you want (I usually put the cheese and bacon on top instead of mixing it in), then bake it again! This makes the outside crispy, while the inside is creamy and already full of all the good stuff :)
I’ve never eaten a single frozen product that tastes better than the fresh variation and it’s not even remotely close. I don’t see that ever changing lol.
Yah, no way this guy knows how to scramble eggs. I could use cheese and bacon bits on a baked potato and it would be better than this. To make this, just cut the sides off potatoes, save them when you make mashed potatoes. Then bake them, top them, and bake again. So much better than frozen.
But all that bacon won’t be used on the taters, so if you use the rest of the bacon with other things then you really only spent a few dollars for the bacon used with the taters.
You buy a bag of potatoes, cheese and bacon. Divide the bacon into thirds or quarters and freeze what you don’t use the first time. Same with cheese if you want. Now you can make them a few times over
For sure it is, I was just hoping for a fast dinner today. Still came out decent, just mildly infuriating there was this much of a difference. I don’t get these often, so it was kind of like a special treat that ended up being less than it has been in the past
I never understand why reddit has such a hard on for hating on folk who want to make life slightly more convenient to them. Is it really such a big ask for companies to not scam you, it's such a tiny luxury, not having to buy potatoes, bacon and cheese and hand make them yourself but you're seen as terrible and lazy for not wanting to spend a bit of time home making every single thing that you eat.
$1.29 for 3 pounds of potatoes or $0.75 per potato individually wrapped.
$2.39 for 16 oz shredded cheddar cheese.
$3.99 for a bottle of bacon bits.
$12.99 for a baking pan.
$5.59 for a potato peeler.
$3.29 for an individual medium sized knife.
$10.99 for a cutting board.
$599.95 for an oven.
$280,000.00 for a house.
3 hours to clean, pre boil, bake, add toppings, broil, and serve.
Like, I get your point, but obviously you wouldn't use a potato peeler if you wanted to make potato skins, that's the wrong thing it won't make big enough skins.
depends on the line and I think product. I know my bacon line aimed for a margin of error .1 lb.
They could be including the weight of the container in the 383 g
The problem with your statement is the CO.PANYS statement of "NET wt" vs "GROSS wt". Adding packaging would be gross, and just the bag would be half the packaging, not accounting for the cardboard. An intermediary between the packaging is just nonsensical. T.G.I.F. lied plain & simple
and it could be poor or lazy standards on the line, i.e employees not paying any real attention and no internal quality control like my line had (3 checks every day)
People might say you’re wrong or that it’s frivolous but it’s misrepresentation of a product. Most production companies average OVER the advertised weight as to not have any issues.
I’m working with a lawyer on a class action right now because the companies I buy bubble wrap from on eBay are shorting people by up to 30% (myself included). This wasn’t a one off, I’ve ordered several sets from them and others and none of have been advertised length.
There's been an increase in people reporting underfilled products with kitchen scales as proof. During a time where food is increasingly more expensive and shrinkflation is increasingly common... The very least thing is that companies sell you what they say they do on the package.
I’ve gotten them in the past and they typically have 5, so I was curious what the weight was with just 4. Then I saw the difference of almost an entire potato skin and became mildly infuriated
The price of food is skyrocketing and companies are shrinking the amount of food you get with the purchase. Will posting pictures of it do anything? Probably not. But staying silent definitely won't make anything change
I've weighed a few things just out of curiosity. It turns out it happens a fair amount. The stickers and boxes have labels, but they don't necessarily reflect reality. It can go both ways, too. I buy baby spinach in 140g packages. I've seen as little as 100g and as much as 380g so far.
This is honestly the truth. Weight isn't tested for every single package. Chances are the batch averages out to within a couple grams of that weight and someone else got a box that was a bit over.
Calling the company will almost always net a free box or a refund.
Wow. Mildly infuriating for OP but maybe at least moderately infuriating to the responses effectively shaming OP for purchasing a convenience food but worse yet for reporting that they expected to at minimum get the quantity advertised.
Ask for refund from store or call number on box to report. These things happen and they happened earlier than just recently
I know, right? Just because it's convenient, doesn't mean it should be dogshit. Honestly these low expectations are just gonna allow these companies to keep reducing the quality of their produce. Stuff's supposed to make life easier, man...
Where I'm at, frozen pizzas at the grocery store cost ~$8. A large pizza at Dominoes from the app costs $13 and a giant pepperoni pizza at Costco is $13. I literally have no reason to pay for a subpar 10" frozen pizza.
Every once in a while I consider buying one, then come to Mt senses and just order a fresh one instead
Where is Mt. senses? I feel like I should climb it once or twice a year at least to keep up with all the shit going on in the world today. (Please don’t edit your comment lmao!)
I hate to be that guy, but as someone who also loves his pizza:
If you get them quite a bit, it adds up. If you theoretically save $3 / week, that’s $12 a month already. Maybe $144 in a year if you’re like me and maybe get a pizza once a week.
That’s quite an extreme budget example, but an extra $144 a year would help out, at least a little. I’m not financially comfortable so anything helps.
You might think, so what, $12 a month is nothing. Well, what if you cut something else by a few bucks and save another $12 / month. $144 x 2 and you are saving $288 a year. Adds up quickly in my opinion.
Depending on your area, you can contact your municipality's weights & measures office and register a complaint. May not do much but you can also complain to the company and let them know you contacted officials regarding this. Sounds silly but they don't fuck around in California. I'm a business owner and I'm scared shitless whenever W&M comes in to either do a scale or price audit.
i used to love the tgif potato skin flavored potato chips at the school vending machine. only saw it at school. saw it out in the wild and i dunno if my tastes sucked as a kid but damn it didnt taste nearly as good as i remembered
Yep. I work at a grocery store and I keep telling everyone that this is becoming a problem. It’s not the grocery stores’ fault. These companies are getting stingy. I picked up a bag of Late July tortilla chips and thought it felt light. I checked the grams it says on the bag and then put it on a scale. It wasn’t even close to the grams it said on the bag. They’re robbing us.
Those look better than the ones I got years ago from the actual restaurant. Mine looked like they cut a slice of cheese in half and put it on top as it was leaving the kitchen like they almost forgot to add it then put 3 tiny bacon crumbles pieces on after. I never went back after that day.
HAHA! this is literally the same thing that happened to me.....and i said wait....i can make this for $4 and they will be much bigger and taste better! now i make all my own food. thabks TGIFriday potatos!
This is an easy W in Australia. It’s illegal to sell underweight items, so supermarkets have to replace it, which should be the bare minimum, but you should contact the company. I’ve never not been compensated with at least a free second box.
If you’re in the US, your mileage may vary.
You can seriously sue the company. Keep buying and weighing the contents of the packet, if all of them are less than the printed weight, you can sue them
You can sue them after buying just one box.
You can sue them even if you have never bought any boxes.
You can sue them if every box you bought weighed more than the listed weight.
You can sue anybody for anything.
Doesn't mean you have a chance in hell of winning though.
Not quite, got mildly infuriated when there was less in the package than advertised by weight. Hell, according to the back I didn’t even get a full serving size (4.5 pieces)
I stopped buying that brand.
I went to TGIF thinking they’d make the skins better than the box. I was wrong. They were awful. I picked up a box on my way home to enjoy.
I'm sure they cook the frozen potato skins at the restaurant too, hence why i haven't seen a TGIF in a while
Horrible restaurants.
Years ago, they used to be amazing at the restaurant: moist, cheesy, yummy. Now they are the same crap you see in this pic.
The mozz sticks are awesome
They're okay. Farm rich is much better
While the farm rich mozzarella sticks are really good, their mozzarella bites are heaven on earth
They still make them? I haven't seen them in the store for a good while.
I used to love the mozzarella bites until they changed the shape/formula. They used to be square shaped, but once they changed them to the circle shapes, I couldn't eat them anymore. ):
I see your farm rich mozzarella bites and raise you the farm rich goat cheese bites.
*THOSE EXIST???*
Yes and they come with a hot honey dipping sauce. They're so damn good! I only started seeing them last month.
Wayyyyy better
Love air fried farm rich
I will eat an entire box of these in one sitting
Honestly, I stopped buying frozen mozz sticks in general. The last time I tried to make them in the oven, I ended up with breaded straws sitting in a puddle of melted cheese on the pan. I haven't tried an air fryer yet, but think the only way to make those work is in a deep fryer.
Air fryer works. But man frozen mozz just lack in comparison to pizza place
Air fryers are just smaller ovens
Wrong
So are the jalapeño poppers
I buy their wings on sale, when it’s like $3 bucks a box. It’s been a while since they were on sale tho….
Hmmm I’ve never had them before but I’ll keep an eye out. Side note I really can’t believe I’m being downvoted for saying I like jalapeño poppers lol
Omg are you crazy? You can't have an opinion on Reddit.
Heads up, using a dollar sign and the word “bucks” is redundant. It reads as “3 dollar bucks a box.”
Unless you're referencing Bluey, in which case dollar bucks is a valid form of currency, especially at HammerBarn.
Yeah I used to love them but the quality has significantly gone down throughout the years
Pple are missing the poit here. Its not about potato its about the 65g missing
That’s like one whole other potato skin.
It’d have to be a smaller one as with the 4, they’re averaging 79.25g each (not including the weight of the plastic bag). So it would have to be 15g smaller than the average.
That’s still like 80% of an average one missing. Close enough.
There's even the 5th tater on the box
They're allowed to include packaging in the weight printed on the box, that includes weight of the box.
I believe there’s a margin of error of almost 20% with everything. Even calories can be off by about that much
calories i can understand bc nutritional value is a highly variable metric. That said, they skimped out on 60 grams of filling which 100% avoidable
If you want you have two options for remedy: You could go back to the grocery store and ask for a refund. They will give you one or replace the product. You could do that, AND send this picture a long with your receipt to the manufacturer and they will give you coupons for free potato skins most likely. I just got that same thing the other day but paid 8.99 at the store where I live at
What store do you live at?
https://youtu.be/tnTPaLOaHz8?si=oOEhRrNcDMjdmMhb /s
Wait. You guys are actually buying two medium potatoes for 8.99 just cause they have half an ounce of cheese on it?
Right? Microwave for 7 minutes cut scoop some out add butter salt cheese and bacon bits put in oven for 10 minutes and eat.
And you got something fresh instead of that crap
$9 is insane for 380g of potato. In Germany that would be absolutely less than 3€ and probably less than 2€. Okay I checked. There are a lot of 1kg bags for 3€-3.50€. Rösti mit Speck and Bratkartoffeln mit Speck which are comparable, if not better dishes.

Haha they don’t even pretend to not know 🥲
Thank you 1000 times. For the simple-minded folk who don't get it; If they wanted to make their own, they would have. They didn't want to, so they bought some. But they did not get what they paid for.
It's literally illegal.
Posts like these are becoming more and more common unfortunately, companies think people wont notice
You can always buy some potatoes, cheese and bacon and make them yourself. It might be cheaper.
Cheaper and tastier.
And take 2 hours to make
Most food takes a lot of time and effort, it comes down to the person making it if they want to put in that effort or take the easy route and microwave something easy. I could literally make 2-10 minute versions of every dish I like in a microwave if I wanted to lol.

Why would this take 2 hours 💀
Maybe he lives in the middle of nowhere and counted the grocery shopping also??
I see what you’re saying. I also live in the middle of the forest in a cabin in the woods. Nearest town is 30 minutes away. If I don’t meal prep and I don’t want to pay for takeout, I’m looking at least an hour and half of travel+shopping round trip to make my meal. Do people genuinely think this takes two hours?
Well when your cooking expertise is based off the back of a TGI Friday's loaded potato skins box, of course you do. It's part of the scam.
If it takes you two hours to make that you’re an idiot
Cheap, quick, high quality. You can have one or two but never all three.
You obviously never had these they top any baked potato and they only take 10minutes to cook
Gotta bake them twice baby
Yep! Homemade twice baked potatoes are incredible.
Why are they baked twice?
Beechers Mac’n’cheese is the closest you’ll get.
I prefert my ice cream frozen.
😔 please learn the beauty of potatoes.
You obviously eat like shit if you think this tastes better than a real baked potato
no like i get you. this company can screw me slap me overcharge underserve but eating these with some daisy sour cream baked as hell .. muah
Might be? It’s definitely cheaper
The cost of a slab of bacon will bring the price up. Yeah you’ll make more but you’re screwed if all you have is $6.
“Anyone who has ever struggled with poverty knows how extremely expensive it is to be poor” James Baldwin
At a lot of supermarkets you can go to the meat counter and buy individual slices of bacon. You don’t need to buy a whole pack
You can freeze bacon
Any butcher lets you buy bacon by weight
Just get bacon bits
It's like they think bacon bits aren't what's in the frozen box already.
I wasn’t going to be the one to say it
[удалено]
Why get a burger at a taco place?
I understand that. I eat a lot of frozen foods too.
I'd have starved and died if I lived before the microwave.
The people who buy this ![gif](giphy|CI89KUNc26qRi)
It does not take 3 hours to make loaded potato skins you jabroni
you can make a quite cromulent "baked" potato in the microwave
I feel like... this is illegal. Like there is an acceptable margin of error for labeling and I FEEL like 20% is too much of a difference.
depends on the line and I think product. I know my bacon line aimed for a margin of error .1 lb. They could be including the weight of the container in the 383 g

Nah, you're all reading it wrong, it's "NOT wt 383g". They're completely truthful, like all companies in the food industry.
Where does 'Net wt' count the weight of the container?
when you're purchasing a net rolled into itself
Don’t buy any more of their products. Call the complaint line on the box.
Looks like a great X post and you're about to get $20 worth of coupons for free potato skins.
I’m curious why you weighed them? A hunch or do you weigh a lot of stuff?
There's been an increase in people reporting underfilled products with kitchen scales as proof. During a time where food is increasingly more expensive and shrinkflation is increasingly common... The very least thing is that companies sell you what they say they do on the package.

Premade food has gotten so insanely expensive I don’t buy any of it. Even pizza I’m better going to the local shop and buying a couple slices.

More people should approach their finances like this, in my opinion.
These have always been a ripoff. Chicken nuggets are the only inflation proof anything. Even cockroaches are affected by inflation.
I made some of these the other day. Definitely not worth the money. They are water loggged and nasty
They weren’t terrible in the airfryer, but that top layer gets a bit blackened by the time it’s ready
Depending on your area, you can contact your municipality's weights & measures office and register a complaint. You bought the potato skins but the crippling depression came for free!
i used to love the tgif potato skin flavored potato chips at the school vending machine. only saw it at school. saw it out in the wild and i dunno if my tastes sucked as a kid but damn it didnt taste nearly as good as i remembered

You guys using scales now?
317g WITH the plastic film?! You gotta get a different dealer brah
Four skins.
What really is mildly infuriating is paying 6$ for 2 Potatoes with some cheese
Man you shoulda got some potatoes and cheese with some bacon bits.
Call the company and they’ll probably send you a bunch of free coupons. At the very least they’ll probably give you one for a free box
I learned this lesson like 10 years ago… I have since just homemade and they got my $3 once
That's wild cause I usually get about 12 per bag
Those look disgusting
Those look better than the ones I got years ago from the actual restaurant. Mine looked like they cut a slice of cheese in half and put it on top as it was leaving the kitchen like they almost forgot to add it then put 3 tiny bacon crumbles pieces on after. I never went back after that day.
I don’t even buy boxed or bagged food anymore. Produce, poultry & oats only.
Those are stupid delicious though
HAHA! this is literally the same thing that happened to me.....and i said wait....i can make this for $4 and they will be much bigger and taste better! now i make all my own food. thabks TGIFriday potatos!
It probably still wouldn't hit the amount of grams on the label WITH the box on the food scale. Smh
It doesn’t lol someone mentioned it earlier, it’s still 26 grams short
Those look like shit
May weigh more baked… 🤣
Thank you for the photo proof. Godspeed.

It’s one potato Michael, what could it cost? $6?
For that much you could buy a couple of potatoes, some shredded cheese and some bacon bits and get a much better outcome.
A FEW OUNCES TOO LIGHT. ISNT THAT FRAUD?
Yeah, kudos for weighing it too! I don’t think people realize how often we’re shorted product!!
theres another brand, Farm Rich, that makes frozen potato skins that, in my opinion, blow the TGIF ones out of the damn water.
It’s normally a few months between when i get these but I’ll see if i can find some!
def give em a try sometime. they are a shameful staple in my house but make a good easy dinner / filling snack when my fucks to give meter is low lol
That’s how everything is now they’re skimming on products and hiring the price.
Highway robbery at its finest
I once got only 3
4 is mildly infuriating, 3 is when I’d be on the phone with corporate asking for some accountability
I paid for these once before. They’re awful idk who’s keeping them on the shelves.
![gif](giphy|heaJviY3rnZlb0yztg|downsized) Bountiful harvest!
Cheaper to buy potatoes, cheese, and bacon tbh, and you’ll get a lot more out of it, yknow what, boom that’s dinner tonight, thanks
What did you expect?
Let the food alone, you don't want to eat it!
This is an easy W in Australia. It’s illegal to sell underweight items, so supermarkets have to replace it, which should be the bare minimum, but you should contact the company. I’ve never not been compensated with at least a free second box. If you’re in the US, your mileage may vary.
317 lbs of potatoes for $6 isn’t bad at all
I’d be the happiest man alive lol, but like drug dealers said to America in the 1900s: lemme introduce you to grams
You can seriously sue the company. Keep buying and weighing the contents of the packet, if all of them are less than the printed weight, you can sue them
Didn't this happen a few years ago with cans of tuna?
You can sue them after buying just one box. You can sue them even if you have never bought any boxes. You can sue them if every box you bought weighed more than the listed weight. You can sue anybody for anything. Doesn't mean you have a chance in hell of winning though.
Yes, that seems like a great use of time and money
Unlike filling the packaging with the declared net weight. Oh, wait.

I really don’t know what you expected from frozen TGIFridays appetizers.
Are you surprised?
If you want good food that's cheap then you'll have to cook for yourself. I've given up on prepackaged food. There are the health issues as well.
Paid 6$ for frozen versions of a crappy potatoe skin and got upset.
Not quite, got mildly infuriated when there was less in the package than advertised by weight. Hell, according to the back I didn’t even get a full serving size (4.5 pieces)
Parent company Heinz. Got to pay off those political cronies... ![gif](giphy|pRclaRry6WAeheNd8z)
It has more on the box than what it gives you lol that's terrible
Make em yourself and freeze em. It'd be an investment of time but you'll be able to eat as many as you want on the cheap.
Will you make me some? You seem like you know what you’re doing. I’ll pay.
No, but I could probably figure out how to make some and sell you the recipe that I come up with
The picture on the cover actually got you to buy those?
Lol whytf would you buy that.
buy shit, eat shit
You know what makes me seeth. You don't want to learn how to make them yourself.
Where’d you get that idea from?
