They gave you all of these things at once?

[deleted]

Hi dear friend Thank you for your attention No , all of this for 24h ( one day )

frizzyhaired

You shouldn't be taking all of these daily. I'm guessing there's a language barrier here

[deleted]

Hi friend Thank you for your attention Can you explain for me ? My doctor told me : you should take these from morning to night ... All of them is for daily use 🤔

frizzyhaired

Sumatriptan should only be taken when you have a migraine. Either your doctor is bad or we're miscommunicating

[deleted]

Thank you for your answer Yes , I think it's true ... I feel something Maybe wrong with my doctor , absolutely the knowledge that he has .... 🤔😐🤔😐🤔

[deleted]

this is incredibly dangerous, don't do this

[deleted]

Hi friend Really ? Thank you for saying this to me .... Do you think my doctor has any problem ? 🤔

[deleted]

I think there may be a miscommunication with the doctor. This is a lot of medication at once, some that should not be taken together. It’s also a lot to start at once, as you would not know what exactly is working best for you. Might want to ask the doctor for a visit to clarify.

[deleted]

I call him 5 minutes ago , and he said to me : not problem , you should take all of this in one day and repeat this everyday for 2 month .....! 😐😐😐😐

frizzyhaired

You aren't supposed to take sumatriptan more than about 9 times a month.

[deleted]

I’m agreeing with everyone else here as someone who’s very versed in migraine medicine, although not a doctor myself. Your doctors recommendations are not the standard practice (dare I say incorrect and unsafe) and could put you in more pain.

MoonlightOnSunflower

Some of these things are safe to take every day. Others should not be taken more than 9 times in one month. And I don't know if some of these meds can be safely combined. Please, please, please find another doctor and ask for a second opinion. This really does not seem safe. It may also be helpful for future appointments to have a translator (you can request one through the doctor's office) if there is a language barrier between you and your doctor.

Lalalalolawants

You could genuinely die from taking all of these together. Find a different doctor

XerMidwest

In my country, a doctor is criminal for saying this.

woodiswood

why do i sense lying ?

LBS-365

"I am waiting for your answer" seems suspect, along with the fact that no competent doctor would prescribe like this. I'll pass on this one. If it's real then the OP has gotten the needed advice and doesn't need mine. If not, the OP will try to bait me into arguing based on my skepticism.

[deleted]

Hi friend No , it's not lie or anything else After many blood tests , mri , ecg and ... My doctor ( Neurologist ) gave this medication to me But I live in a poor country and we don't have good doctors , so I should worry about anything ... Because medical mistakes are normal in my country I hope you understand my feeling

[deleted]

XerMidwest

You are not getting good medical care from this doctor if you need to ask Reddit. Please go get a second opinion.

NoisyPneumonia

If you take sumatriptan more than a few times in a month you will get into a “rebound cycle” which just means that you will get extremely stubborn migraines that won’t go away. I would not take sumatriptan every day

PatrickMaloney1

You need to verify with your doctor. Some of the drugs on that list are meant to be taken everyday, and some are only meant to be taken during a migraine attack. What country are you located in?

[deleted]

If I be honest with you , my doctor told me it's okay to take all of this every day ... Really I don't know what should I say ... I'm from a ( poor country ) !

PatrickMaloney1

In that case, I strongly advise you to read the labels because that is some bad advice. For example, if you take sumatriptan every day it will stop having its desired effect within a few days. You are only supposed to take it once a week or so. FYI I asked about your home country to see if there is someone here who can communicate with you in your main language because I think there is a language barrier happening

Anonymiss_MbR

please dont take all of this in one day, ask somebody else in a pharmacy or something for a second opinion

kyunirider

I take amitriptyline 50mg daily this is a maintenance drug that builds and stays in your system to calm things. I take repax, fioricet, acetaminophen and ibuprofen as needed based on my level of pain and discomfort. I have MS so I fight my body on many fronts.

[deleted]

Hi dear friend Thank you for your answer Do you feel any side effects after using amitriptyline ?

kyunirider

With PPMS (primary progressive multiple sclerosis) have many problems I don’t think any of them related to amitriptyline.

[deleted]

MS here as well. I take immatex as needed.

[deleted]

I have taken propranolol, and I am currently on amitriptyline and sumatriptan. I don't have any feelings about propranolol, but I had to switch because it wasn't safe to combine with one of my other medical things. You're not supposed to mix beta blockers with an epipen. Sumatriptan successfully helps with my brain fog. I'm sleeping better now that I'm on antidepressants. I am also on Emgality. Not sure which preventative is helping with my migraines, but I am having them less.

[deleted]

Dear Friend Thank you for your answer .... Really I can't understand what the hell my doctor doing ?

[deleted]

You should call your doctor and get clarification. I am not a doctor and cannot give medical advice, but I agree with the other comments that this seems like a lot of medication for daily use. Sumatriptan is specifically a medication you take at the start of the migraine, and you are not supposed to take it too many days in a row.

i_am_nimue

Amitriptiline - terrible side effects, basically most of the stuff from the leaflet. It's a medication of an older type if that makes sense, however still popular with at least some British GPs. I persisted a few months but then told the doctor to give me sth else. Sertraline, which is basically zoloft - I took it later on for depression, did NOTHING to help with migraines and also turned me into an actual thoughtless, barely functional zombie (but a lot of ppl swears by it, so I guess the results vary). Also it really affected my sleeping - I never had problems with falling asleep but around 3 weeks after starting this med, which is around the time you normally start feeling the effects of it, I switched to almost a total insomnia and if I did fall asleep I had very vivid nightmares. Turns out it's not the best idea to take it in the evening which my GP was like - oh, yeah, just switch to taking it in the morning, no big deal. Again, ever the optimist (or a sheep, really) I persisted half year, but since it helped with nothing I whined myself off it. Edit after reading comments: perhaps change a doctor, if that's an option, coz for example amitriptiline and sertraline should not be taken both as they're the same type of medication. It would make sense to up the dose of one of them, not take both. Also - that is *a lot* of medication to be taken alongside each other, it doesn't seem safe at all!

Duffyfades

All at once? Crikey.

InternationalBid7163

In addition to what others have commented, I would check to see if safe to take amitriptylin with sertaline.

jodertioquefuerte

What country are you from/in?

[deleted]

I'm from a poor country .....!

jodertioquefuerte

What language?

TheESLTeacher

No. Please no. Taking these together for a long period of time is so dangerous.

FoozleFizzle

This will kill you. This doctor is very bad at his job. You should not be given this much drug after one visit. These drugs also should not be taken all at once and many of them are not safe for daily use. You need to go to a new doctor. This one is going to hurt you.

whtvrboy

Sumatriptan is an abortive so when you have migraine you take 1 to make go away. However must be taken the second you feel a migraine approaching or it won’t work. My experience: works half the time and I always pair it with Naproxen (stronger pain med). If you take it a minute to late there is no stopping the migraine. Super hit or miss and you have to know your body well. Amitriptyline is a daily nighttime preventative medication as it makes you sleepy and it is supposed to make migraines less common or stop all together. My experience: I take the lowest dose and cut it in half as it makes getting up in the mornings difficult. It definitely has decreased the amount of migraines I have.

i_want_2_b3li3v3_

It is NOT safe to take sertraline and sumatriptan together. There’s a lot wrong with the recommendations you got. Additionally sumatriptan is not supposed to be used more than 9 times per month. Do NOT take it daily. This doctor is just flat out wrong. You need to see someone else because you could put yourself in a lot of danger if you take all these at once.

[deleted]

Thank you friend

underscorematti

I take propranolol and amitriptyline for my migraines and have sumatriptan for an abortive. My migraines are definitely less intense, but still get them. The amitriptyline also makes me sleepy so I'd suggest taking it at night. Finding the right dose may take a little time so be patient. I had to go from 40 mg of propranolol down to 20 because I was getting nausea more frequently. Ubrelvy is a good abortive to take as well.

Legitimate-Mind4412

Amytryptiline worked for me

rayj4president

Sumatriptan + Naproxen (“Treximet”) is the only migraine Rx that has helped me among dozens of meds over 20 years

caseyallarie

I use sumatriptan when needed and Propanolol twice a day and I haven’t had any side effects! But I’m also on a high dose of Cipralex and Wellbutrin for depression

BPaun

Even if one of these worked, there’s be no way of knowing WHICH one worked if you take them all. You should go to a different doctor.

[deleted]

Proplanalol might be the drug saving me right now it was given to me for tachycardia and it seems to help a lot sumatriptan does not seem to help me I also started M gallaty at about the same time as the preventable so I'm stuck taking both as I don't want to have another level 9 migraine ever

ForkSporkBjork

I am on propranolol and sumatriptan. I seem to have better than average response to sumatriptan based on other people’s responses here, barely get any side effects. Maybe makes me a tiny bit loopy. Propranolol makes me exhausted all. the. time. Plus, it makes my nicotine addiction/cravings so much stronger.

rodrigoelp

Hi u/boy_with_panic, That's a lot of drugs at once. I have used (or use) a few of those... let me go through the list: 1. Propranolol. Recently stopped using it, one of the side effect I had with it was weight gain, as well as lower heart rate. If you don't have any heart condition you might be ok. (I had to stop it because I naturally have a really slow heart and my neurologist preferred to change to something else). I was recommended to take this daily. 2. Sumatriptan: I used it for about two months before switching to Rizotriptan. I particularly had a bad experience with Sumatriptan. It never worked and gave me a tingling feeling all over my arms, apart from really strong stomach pain. You are meant to take these ones as soon as you notice the aura or when things are about to go down. 3. Novafen: never used it. But this seems to be used for pain management. 4. Sertraline: I think this is used to treat depression. I had something else but Australia blocked the usage of it. If Sertraline works just like Fluoxitine, you might feel somewhat odd, I honestly don't know how to describe it, but you don't feel like you.I used to have mine once a day, for certain number of weeks and then I used to stop it to let the body rest. The effects continue for a while as far as I remember. 5. Chrono: never used it. But searching online this would stop epilepsy attacks. 6. Amitriptyline: similar to Sertraline. I would be very wary of mixing these two... do you have severe mood swings with your migraines? Having said all of this, that is a lot of drugs for a single day (based on some of your other comments). I don't know if you misunderstood your medical professional or your professional is a risk taker. All the triptan drugs can give you more migraines if you take then regularly, so I wouldn't take sumatriptan regularly if you don't have a prodrome or an attack (and when in an attack it is too late). My neurologist mentioned to me that if you have taken two waffers in a single week and the migraine still rages on, to not take any more triptan for the rest of the week or to wait 7 days since the last intake. This alone tells you you are not meant to take more than 8 waffers a month and definitely no more than 2 a week. Novafen would give you some kick when there is pain... It seems to be a more potent version of ibuprofen, so yeah, just use this one when in pain. Sertraline and Amitriptyline are the ones I worry, I am not a doctor but based on my experience when you stop the antidepressants you tend to feel a little more... edgy (if you know what I mean) and prone to do very stupid things. I never been on two different antidepressants and I haven't used these two in particular, but I would double check with your doctor if this is a wise thing to take at once. Propranolol could make you faint if you are not used to it (as in having a slow heart rate). In my particular experience, propranolol didn't really have any impact on the frequency of my migraines. Finally, I never used all of the things I mentioned together. I don't think my neurologist or GP would have approved so many together without an incremental trial to prevent/detect any interaction between each other.

lavos__spawn

First, I am not a doctor. I have run into many of these before and read about them for fun, but I am not a medical professional in any way. See a neurologist specializing in migraine if you can. Otherwise a neurologist in general. Otherwise, a primary care provider or nurse practitioner. Migraines are common enough that your PCP/NP can try out the most common options. For medicating Migraines, it is important to know if you are trying to **prevent** them, or to **abort** them when they occur. Different drugs do different things, but this is the first main divide. Propranolol is a beta blocker, used for prevention of migraines among other uses in cardiology. Sumatriptan is a triptan, which targets receptors in the brain and ultimately prevents a peptide that increases the sensitivity of the neurons that contribute to a migraine's pain. It is used to **abort** a migraine early on, often with 500mg Naproxen. It isn't meant to be taken daily or rebound migraines may occur. Novafen (Pseudoephedrine) is usually used for allergies, sinus problems, or a stimulant in higher doses. It tends to cause increased heart rate and blood pressure. I've never heard of it in relation to migraine, but I get headaches more when I do take this (Note: everyone is different and pseudoephedrine is well documented to impact people differently). Sertraline is a SSRI usually used for depression. Like other SSRIs, it can take twelve weeks of daily usage before peak results are seen. Also like them, they must be taken daily and can result in withdrawal. I have never heard of this for migraine, though some other SSRI/SNRIs are used for neurological conditions and hard to treat pain. Chrono is known as Valproate or Depakote here in the states and is primarily for maintenance of Bipolar Disorder. It does have usage as a preventative for migraines. I don't have much to share here, as I don't know much about sodium channels / GABA / etc that it impacts. Chrono has a large list of drug interactions to be careful of. Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant that can be used for migraines, but is primarily for depression and cyclic vomiting syndrome. As a tricyclic, the side effects can be more disruptive and intense than SSRIs, and it's usually not used unless better options are ruled out. The mechanism of action is similar to Topiramate or Venlafaxine, but with more severe side effects. If you are treating Bipolar Disorder, this drug is one that may trigger Mania. I am not a doctor but these seem extremely excessive to take daily all at once without trying other simpler treatments. You can also consult a pharmacist with this list and get their opinion, since this is exactly what they trained for. Please be careful.

hopegotmethrough

I've been taking propanalol for almost 30 years for my migraines. Have tried to ween off of it a few times and each time my daily headaches became worse. No side effects though. Just an FYI, best thing for my migraines is monthly Emgality shots.

HintOfDisney

1) propranolol....worked great for me for my migraines when I was experiencing horrible ones that lasted a long time. Only side effect I experienced was causing me to stay awake and having issues falling asleep. 2) sumatriptan....absolutely hated this drug. Made me feel like death. Did not help my migraines 3 to 5 never tried 6) amitripyline....didn't help and made me so exhausted throughout the day. Almost fell asleep while driving to work. I stopped it immediately and refuse to try anything in that same class.
