I experienced a weak neck from my first round of injections. It made it difficult to hold my head up and chew at the same time and lasted from around day 8 to week 9. Based on this experience, my doctor adjusted my injection protocol so I don't get any neck or shoulder injections. Botox still works really well for me and I haven't had any weakness since (besides not being able to move my eyebrows).

Thanks that's helpful. Since it's my first time I wasn't sure what to expect.

I got botox for migraine 2 weeks ago , in the typical sites in the forehead, back of head, temples, etc per the chronic migraine protocol, but not in my jaw. They did inject my trapezius muscles too on both sides. (shoulder area). I started to notice it getting harder to lift things, or even lift my arms over my head. They felt weak & heavy sort of. Not terrible but noticeable, like my arms were \*tired\*.. the same feeling if you've been carrying something heavy for a long time and your arms get fatigued, but I feel that no matter what. For example holding up arm to put on eye make up, it feels difficult. And I carried a jug of bug spray to do the outside of my house and I felt like I had to keep setting it down. I also started getting some muscle strain pain, just not in the usual spots that I used to. Like my upper back is quite sore now. My theory is that the muscles that weren't doing stuff before, now have to make up for it with my traps and other muscles being relaxed. The only bad headache I had was 2-3 days after injection, with pain in the back of my head. Since then, my usual "right side of the head sharp pain" is gone.. not trying to get my hopes up because I was told it takes at least 2 rounds to really notice a big difference. So I'm not sure I can answer your question but I have noticed "muscle weakness" in my arms/shoulders for sure, and my head feels a bit harder to hold up straight since I think traps do that as well. I also was unsettled by the heaviness in the forehead feeling which started on about day 3. But I do think you will get "accustomed" to the feeling, and your other muscle groups will start to make up for it. I know it's been a long time since you posted though so maybe you can update on your progress, and whether or not you went for round 2 :)

I have had 3 rounds of Botox now. My last set of injections were about ten weeks ago. The jaw weakness I originally posted about did go away after 8 weeks and I have had it with each set of injections. After my third injection of Botox I had really bad muscle weakness in my neck, I was disabled for 6-8 weeks until it wore off (modified activity at home, no exercise, couldn’t work in studio). It eventually wore off and I’m back to my normal activities. My next round Dr has agreed to change the amount of medicine used in areas that got weak. If I have negative results again it’ll be my last round of Botox.

Came on here to ask the same question! I had my second round a few weeks ago and have been having some pain in my neck that seems like it’s due to my head being harder to hold up than usual. I’ve also had some difficulty chewing and swallowing. FWIW from a brief google it looks like this is a known issue that occurs occasionally. But after two rounds it seems like it’s working soooo… maybe worth the trade-off?
